Bessie Pease Gutmann is probably the most well-know children's artist in the world. Born on April 6, 1876, Bessie Pease Gutmann developed her natural talent early in life at the Philadelphia School of Design for Women. Gutmann's career spanned nearly five decades. It was not until the 1950's that failing eye-sight forced her to stop painting. Today Gutmann is best remembered as the portrayer of children, and interest in the artist's work has never waned. Bessie's art was so popular during the 1920's, 30's, 40's and into the 50's that there was hardly a nursery in the United States and Europe that did not have one of her child or baby illustrations hanging on the wall. Today, these prints are highly sought after by collectors and persons who fondly remember these prints from their own childhood. This group serves as a meeting place for those who want to discuss their latest discoveries, the history or the prints, their value in today's market, where to buy and sell, and how to best preserve the art they have collected. This group is sponsored by www.BessiePease.com, which contains the largest online collection of Bessie Pease Gutmann art, information, history, links, and hundreds of authorized fine art giclée prints.
