RE: [besig] Re: Need Recommendations for Book(s), Other Materials for Quick, Intense Study BE

Dear Anne,

We have a BESIG wiki we use to share information and knowledge.
http://besig.wikispaces.com/

There you can find a list of books and internet resources you can use.

There are some book your student can use for self-study: English for
Business life. Publisher: Marshal.

The Skills Books of Intelligent Business have units of Socializing,
Meetings, Presentations, etc.

I hope this information helps you.

All the best,

Mercedes

Dear Suresh,

Having a keen interest in second language acquisition, I wasn't aware that
anybody knows what the best way is to learn. Can you give any objective,
independent research that supports your, somewhat adamant, statement, that
content-based learning is the best way to master a second language? I would
be most interested in any sources.

As to the original question from Anne, I see you are a relatively new
teacher of BE, but how much do you know about business? If the answer is
"not much", and you will be starting quite soon, I would personally use my
student as the source of as much information as possible. What exactly does
he want? If it is only English for social situations with colleagues,, that
shouldn't be too difficult to put together from scratch for a short course.
Either way, he should be able to describe situations, activities, etc. that
he wants to be able to deal with.

Best regards,

Kevin
