Oh my GOD!!!<br><br>How can somebody turn one of
the most spectacular dancing shows ever performed on
stage, with two of the most talented and beautiful
dancers into a egyptian tragedy, with a little hint of
middle age sourcery and then even take out these two
dancers??? <br><br>It pissed (excuse the language, but it
best describes the status) me off well enough that
Bernie isn't dancing anymore in FOF, since I was hoping
to see her in Munich, but they downgraded the sweet
little spirit to a JOKER???? What did he think of at the
time when he did this? <br><br>Another amusing change
was the drastic save on material on Cleopatras dress!
In the 1st version it was sexy. but not "over" sexy
as it is now! it just doesn't fit I think!<br>They
should have just performed the same show as in "Route of
Kings" and it would have been perfect! But as to all
these "wonderfull" changes that have been broadcasted
by Michael in all hin interviews I can only say:
Forget it!<br><br>I'm not even sure if I'll go and see
it now, I might wait another 4 months and watch
Bernie in T1!<br><br>Now I've let of steam, I'll go to
bed!
After finally recovering from the shock of seeing
the FOF 2000 program photos and Michael Flatley with
brown hair, I have only one thing to say about the new
show: YUCK! For those of you that haven't seen the
photos yet, go
here:<br><br><a href=http://members.aol.com/Irish%20Rain%2013/Eindex.htm
target=new>http://members.aol.com/Irish%20Rain%2013/Eindex.htm</a><br><br>The
show has now been completely redone with an
Egyptian theme (see the characters and set list
here:<br><br><a href=http://www.geocities.com/janboux/FOF2000News.htm
target=new>http://www.geocities.com/janboux/FOF2000News.htm</a>)<br><br>And
apparently, Bernie stayed with Troupe One. The
character of Saoirse has been renamed to "The Swan" (?) and
is danced by Ciara Scott and Kate Gourley. Anyway, I
wouldn't place my money on this show and would just rather
see the original production. What does everyone else
think?<br><br>Kat
Yeah, Michael is back in FOF 2000 which just
started touring last weekend! So far only the German and
Austrian dates have been announced (check
www.celticcafe.com) but they'll be touring the rest of Europe and
"North America". I'm not exactly sure what this means,
but they WILL be touring the States (most likely
Radio City or Madison Square in NYC), but nothing has
been said about Canada, which spells bad news for us
living north of the border, eh? As for the cast list, I
only know that Michael, Bernadette, Don McCarron (T2)
and Ciara Scott (formerly T4) are in it. Rumour has
it that Gillian stayed with T1, but once again,
that's just a rumour.<br><br>Kat<br><br>P.S. I've added
a few more pictures to the gallery - so many, I had
to start a new album! I'm trying to keep the size to
a bare minimum though. Hope you enjoy them!
Wow - I didn't know that; haven't been following
the progrss of the show since I finally stopped
watching the FOF video after 20 times. What are the long
term prospects of the show? I read that Flatley is
back dancing in FOF - any word in which North American
cities they will perform and when?
John Carey left the show in June 1999 to resume
his chemistry studies at Oxford. Thirteen other lead
dancer left the show in June '99 as well, including
Daire Nolan. :-( I heard Daire just got married, so
maybe that's the reason he left.<br><br>Kat
who you're talking about who left the show,
Flatley or Carey?<br><br>Yes Michael Flatley has a strong
personality, but it is more confidence than arrogance - and it
is hard to differentiate sometimes. Down deep
Flatley is a talented, ageing, dancer who exploited his
last few years of youth to the max, after 20 years of
penny-scraping jobs here and there. The arrival of Riverdance
gave him a window of 5 to 8 years to make up for all
that hard work. As a result, he opened the world of
mainstream hard-shoe tap for all these new and young dancers
- so the new-Irish dancing community owes a
tremendous amount of gratitude to Flatley, even though it
was Moya Doherty who hired him for Riverdance. It was
Flatley who choregraphed the 94 Eurovision contest
prophetic debut!!! <br><br>Indeed Damien is too tall, but
in the end, he's got Bernie...so who's laughing,
he's on top of the world, and on top of her!
<br>Cheers<br><br>Paul
I've never seen LOTD live, although I came close
to seeing T2 in Toronto in 1998. But I have to
agree, Damien just doesn't have the right "look" to
properly present the part of the Lord - he's too tall, too
skinny and his limbs are too long and the same goes for
Michael Edwards even though he's really cute!
:-).<br>Michael Flatley is a great dancer, but I overly dislike
his personality, although from the photos I've seen,
John Carey looks promising. It's a shame he left the
show...<br><br>Kat
More on Damien - in the Fall of 98, I brought my
the 6 year old son see LOTD Troupe 2 and it happened
to be Damien's first or second live performance as
the Lord. He was OK but overall it was a big
disappointment for me and my son. Damien was obviously learning
his craft and unfortunately they chose the small
Ottawa market as a good practice ground. Troupe 2's true
fault was the use of pre-recorded music and no live
band - let alone the absence of Michael Flatley. After
I saw the whole original enchilada at the Montreal
Forum, LOTD Troupe 2 was like an "adequate" local
theatrical copycat. Thank God Gillian Norris was there as
the only famous and recognizable cast member from the
original production. Finallly, Damien tore it to shreads
at the end with an attempt at looking sexy which
failed miserably. He started an unbelievaly silly pelvic
twist (in an attempt to emulate MF, no doubt), but he
looked like a first class jerk, also with those horribly
long Elvis-like sideburns.... To say the least I was
not impressed. I didn't care for me that much, but it
was my son's disappointment that hurt, because he had
been watching the LOTD video for months, and wanted to
see Flatley. The rest of the dancers were OK, but
were also victim to the 3rd grade quality of the
production. <br>Paul - LOTD fan since 1996
Just for the record the two new photo links of
Bernie, in the first photo are Kelly Hendry (temptress in
troupe 1) and Helen Egan (the little spirit). The second
photo link from Breakout is also Kelly
Hendry.<br><br>Kat
Yes, the photo is cut off and Terry Coons was in
the cut-off portion. I just cropped it to save some
space. And, yes, Damien O'Kane was on the original LOTD
tape. After troupe 2 was formed, he became John Carey's
understudy and gradually worked his way up to sharing the
lead with John. After Feet Of Flames, he was sent back
to Troupe 1 and is now sharing the role of the Lord
with Des Bailey. As for some biographical information
on Damien, he was born on October 7th, 1977 in
County Derry in Northern Ireland. He joined LOTD soon
after he started studying economics at college. His
older sister is also a championship Irish
dancer.<br><br>Kat<br><br>P.S. I've added a photo of Damien to the photo gallery
if anyone is interested to know what he looks like.

in T1. Bernie's also going to be touring with FOF 2000 in Europe and the
US.<br><br>Kat

student in his last 2 years, I have quite a bit of work
to do, but I will certainly keep up the page even if
it where just for Berna!
