Dear All,
This is an open list serve to discuss the concept of mental mapping, and the development of the human behaviourome. It includes persons who are working towards methods to understand human ideas and how we could construct a common language for multidisciplinary dialogue about human thinking, as well as persons who are critical of the vision that we may one day be able to place human ideas within a map.
There is ample background and discussion on this project on the mental mapping project home page, http://www2.unescobkk.org/eubios/menmap.htm ; and formal papers on the concept will continue to be published in the journal EJAIB. All the contents of EJAIB are available on-line (http://www.www2.unescobkk.org/eubios/ejaib.htm ) as well as in hard copy. There has also been discussion of the project in other journals including Nature, The Scientist, Lancet Neurology, Wired Magazine, and newspapers in many languages.
This list serve is also a forum for discussion of the project. Everyone who is a member of the listserve can read the previous Emails through the web site.
The first international meeting of the behaviourome project was the Eighth International Tsukuba Bioethics Roundtable (TRT8), 15-18 February, 2002. The next was the Fifth Asian Bioethics Conference (ABC5/TRT9)
13-16 February, 2004, Tsukuba Science City, Japan. The papers from many of these papers were published in DRJ. Macer, ed. Challenges to Bioethics from Asia, available in hard copy or it can be downloaded from:
<http://www2.unescobkk.org/eubios/abc5bk.htm>
There are also a number of working groups on different aspects of this project, for the latest description please see <http://www2.unescobkk.org/eubios/menmap.htm>
Also at TRT9 there was also a meeting of an international bioethics education project. There is also a listserve about that project <bioethicseducation@yahoogroups.com>.
With best wishes,
Darryl Macer
