The CENTER FOR BEADWORK JEWELRY ARTS is committed to the teaching of beadwork and jewelry-making from a skills-development and -applications approach. CBJA is a different kind of school. At other places and programs, beading and jewelry making classes are taught from a craft tradition -- they provide a set of specific steps to complete a specific project. At CBJA, we teach classes developmentally, with attention paid towards learning a hierarchy of skills and how they are interrelated. Students are taught how to make choices about what to include and what not to include in their projects.
CBJA offers courses, for all levels of beaders and jewelry-makers, in:
- Bead Stringing, including attaching clasps and pearl knotting
- Bead Weaving, including peyote, loom, ndbele, right angle weave, brick
- Wire-Working/Wire-Wrapping
- Art Craft as a Business
- Color, Jewelry Design
- Silver Smithing
