The CENTER FOR BEADWORK JEWELRY ARTS is committed to the teaching of beadwork and jewelry-making from a skills-development and -applications approach. CBJA is a different kind of school. At other places and programs, beading and jewelry making classes are presented as a collection of mini-workshops. These workshops are taught from a craft tradition -- they provide a set of specific steps to complete a specific project. At CBJA, we teach classes in a certain order, with attention paid towards learning a hierarchy of skills and how they are interrelated. Classes are taught from a design and art tradition, where students are taught rules for applying skills and ideas, and the projects taught serve as contexts for practicing these rules.

The CBJA offers courses, for all levels of beaders and jewelry-makers, in the following areas:
- Bead Stringing, including attaching clasps and pearl knotting
- Bead Weaving, including peyote, loom, ndbele, right angle weave, brick and other stitches
- Wire-Working and Wire-Wrapping
- Art Craft as a Business
- General Skill Areas, such as color and jewelry design
- Silver Smithing
