Dear Todd,
Leithart is being clear in his views, but he is also being disingenuous. He has
had these views for years, and according to the ordination vow he took as a PCA
teaching elder: "do you further promise that if at any time you find yourself
out of accord with any of the fundamentals of this system of doctrine, you will
on your own initiative, make known to your Presbytery the change which has taken
place in your views since the assumption of this ordination vow?" he was under
obligation to make known to his presbytery the changes in his views. The vow
does not say that he is to make known to the world at large via blog postings,
and then only indirectly to his presbytery. It requires notification of the
presbytery, and implicitly, immediate notification of his presbytery when those
changes take place in his views.
He neither notified the presbytery directly, nor did he do so when those changes
in his views took place.
Sincerely,
Benjamin Shaw

And now (though I've been calling for this for a few
years) I pray that presbyteries have the guts to actually
bring up FV men on charges (though they should have been
willing to do so before this non-binding report was issued).
It seems very clear that the leaven of FV can be purged if
the GA is anywhere near representatitive of the collective
view of the presbyteries. Leithart seems willing to be
booted - and at least he is being clear in his admitted
views, which are easily demonstrated to be well outside
the bounds of the standards. Horne should be tossed and
should have been, long ago, and others should be in line
behind him.
Is the PCA willing to actually put this behind themselves,
once and for all - or will it continue to pretend (in practice)
that this issue really isn't that important?
Todd
