Jerry,
A roll call is when you list the surnames you are researching. So the new
members of the list can see who everyone is researching.

I too would like to get in touch with someone who lives in Baltimore (or a
nearby area), and who would be willing to do one or two lookups.
Jerry Gary -- Walnut Creek, CA
Marjorie,
There is no 1890 census for Maryland. There are directories for the 1890
which helps locate where your ancestors were living.I have used them to find
people that disappeared between 1880 and 1900.Have you tried the Md state
archives for vital records. They cost $5.00.I have better results when I send
for them there.Their web page has a form to print out.Just fill it out and
mail it in with your check, money order or credit card
info.http://www.mdarchives.state.md.us/msa/homepage/html/homepage.html
Click on vital records. If the birth is less then 100 years you need to send a
copy of the death certificate.Took me 2 trys to figure that one out. Before
1870 you need to use church records. Some records aren't on file since alot of
births took place at home.others are just listed in a index.
The only book I have is Guide to research in Balto city and co.It does help
to find who holds what records.Let me know if I can help with anything.
Lynn
Hello to you too. I had just about given up on this site. Does anyone do
lookups? I can't get any info at all from Baltimore City. Trying to
obtain the usual birth, marriage and death certificates for families around
the turn of this century and am batting zero. They are in 1880 soundex,
but can't get certified records. Is there an 1890 census from there?

Hello
At this point I have no knowledge of Mary Ida DAVIS.....if I find out that she
is related to John I will post it. I have not found out who he married or
children. Is your Mary a DAVIS by birth or marriage ?
DAVIS is a tough one isn't it ?
Take care
Helen
Hi Helen,
I don't have any information about Dr. John Davis, but I do have a question.
I am a descendant of the Grahams who lived in Baltimore during the mid and
late 1800s. One of my Graham ancestors, Christopher Graham, born 1853 in
Baltimore, married a Mary Ida Davis who was born in 1853.
Is there a Mary Ida Davis in your Davis family tree?
Jerry Gary -- Walnut Creek, CA

might be able to find more out about him other than U of MD as I have already

I have a question for all you Baltimore experts. It concerns the following
quote about a great-great uncle of mine who was written up in the Cambria
County, Pennsylvania Cyclopedia. "He traces his ancestry to Ireland, from
which country his paternal great-grandfather emigrated to America, locating
with an Irish colony at Baltimore, and here Charles Dillon, grandfather of
the subject of this record, was born. On attaining his majority he removed
to Adams county, Pennsylvania, where he engaged in farming, and followied
this pursuit all his life." Charles Dillon, my 3Xgreat-grandfather, was
born about 1770, so this Irish colony would have been in Baltimore about
that time and perhaps earlier. Has anyone heard about such a colony?
We have never been able to locate Charles Dillon's parents and some
researchers believe he was Alsatian. But Charles' grandchildren thought of
themselves as Irish. Two of his grandsons, my g-grandfather and the
gg-uncle featured in the Cyclopedia, both subscribed to a magazine or
newspaper, around 1880, called "The Irish World". I figure they must have
known more about their background and am still convinced that Charles was
Irish and did come through Baltimore. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
