Hi Polly,
Sorry, my husband's family (Lynch) is all from Sussex County Delaware.  Have you tried http://www.footnote.com?
I found my relative's deathdate by searching through the Baltimore city directories until his wife showed up instead of him, then went to the Maryland Vital Statistics and searched through the gap in years (1904-1907) and he showed up in 1906!  I have a months subscription and have definitely gotten my money's worth.  If you haven't already, check it out (and if you only have a couple things you want to see, let me know and I'll retrieve them for you!)
Hope it helps!

Rachel,
Are you related to the Lynch family of early Baltimore? They connect to my families. Matter of fact, I am thinking that my one Grandfather+ is buried beside his uncle John Lynch... that being William Clare Baker.
I would be interested to know.
Thanks,

Polly

Well, I'm glad to know that there WAS a Schwartz's bakery, because I
started doubting that there were Schwartzes in my family.

In the newspaper photo that my grandmother's cousin had she magnified
the street name and thought it was something like Louden or Lorden,
but that's obviously not exact, magnifying an old newspaper photo.

Thank you all so much for helping! I now believe I will have a family
tree poster ready to give my grandparents for Christmas, which I was
starting to wonder about.

Thank you!

I just happened to see this and had to respond.  I don't know why you are talking about St. Elizabeth's but I have to step in with my two cents worth.  I graduated from St. Elizabeth's Commercial School in 1958.  I just looked up the address and it was 35 North Lakewood Avenue.  I do remember that it was across from Patterson Park.  I haven't been back to Baltimore in many, many years so I'm sure it's changed a lot.  I don't remember the bakery but I can blame it on old age!

Well, isn't St. Elizabeth's on E. Baltimore St?  Depending upon where you lived, the streets could have been:
Fairmount - Orleans - Luzerne - Rose - Bradford
Montford - Port - Milton - Glover - Lakewood
Kenwood - Belnord - Streeper - Linwood
Curley - Potomac - Decker

Give me some time to think about this one.  I grew up in East Balto. and would go to St. Elizabeth's Church on Sunday morning.  On the way home I was asked to stop at Schwartz's Bakery and pick up bread and buns for breakfast by my Mom.  I am 67 years old now and for the life of me cannot remember the street the bakery was located on.  What we need to do is find a 50's phone listing for Baltimore.  I went on Ancestry with no luck so far.  Do you have anymore info?  Haven't been following this one.  If I can help, I will.

Do you know of any way I might find the store/bakery that George's
family owned? I know it was in East Baltimore and that a photo of the
bakery (?) was run in a Baltimore newspaper in the 1950s, but the
photo was already old.

I wonder how much of my information is actually good... my
grandmother' s cousin used a magnifying glass on the photo to find the
street name, and then told my grandmom over the phone, so there's a
lot of room for misunderstandings to creep in, but we're all pretty
clear on the fact that the Schwartzes owned a store/market/ bakery in
East Baltimore.

I did make a trip to the archives and looked at those death certificates.
Unfortunately, neither one was the people you were looking for. I do
not know whether your death year information was bad, or whether
they died elsewhere outside of Baltimore City. So the death certificate
numbers and dates I gave you were not for your George and Emma.

That George Schwartz that died 3 March 1931 was the husband of
Barbara and was born 29 July 1856. His parents were Daniel Schwartz
and Emma Ruhr. He was buried in Woodlawn Cemetery on 5 March 1931.

That Emma Schwarz the died 13 Feb 1932 was the wife of Ferdinand Schwarz
and was born 2 Jan 1859. Her parents were Adam Kraft and Anna Hermanulator.
She was buried in Holy Cross Cemetery, A.A. Co.

According to http://mdvitalrec.net a quick search shows the following info
regarding George and Emma's death. Cross checking the death certificate
numbers with the Maryland State Archives web site http://www.msa.md.gov/msa/homepage/html/refserv.html,
the death certificates should be on the microfilms listed below (CR #s).
If you can get someone to print them from the microfilm for you or get
them through the archives website. Since they were from the 1930s,
they should contain information on their parents. That information may
not be 100% accurate as it is from someone's memory.

George Schwartz  died March 3, 1931   death cert: E-66204 (Baltimore City)
CR 48,222

Emma  Schwarz died February 13, 1932  death cert: E-76663 (Baltimore City)
CR 48,226

My grandmother's great-grandfather was named George Schwartz, and he
married Emma (?). George died in 1931, and Emma died in 1932.

George's family had owned a bakery or confectioner's in East
Baltimore. There was a picture of the family in front of the bakery in
a Baltimore newspaper in the 1950s. My grandmother's cousin tried to
read the street name in the photograph and thought it was Loudon or
Lorden street, something similar.

If anyone could help me find the picture and/or George's information,
parents, and Emma's maiden name, I would greatly appreciate it.

I know it's a long shot since I don't even know where the Schwartzes
came from, but I would really appreciate this. I'm trying to make
nice, comprehensive family tree charts to give to my grandparents for
Christmas so I'd like to go back as far as I can.

Thank you!

Hi You Guys,
I have a mess of BAltimore names and a mess in trying to research them. If ever you may run across something, I would love to hear from you. I am especially interested in my Clare/St. Clare/St. Clair line and the Waggner/Dawson/Freeberger/ Brucebanks/ Robertson/Baker folks.  I don't think that the Brucebanks surname is in use anymore as there doesn't seem to be any who have phone numbers in the United States. I was told once that there was an Episcopal priest in Baltimore who was a Waggner descendant but I never did know how to contact him or who he might be. My Dawson folks along with an E. Robertson are listed as buried in the Friend's Cemetery in Baltimore but I have found how to find out anything else on that either. I would welcome and appreciate any help on them.
Thanks,
Polly

I also have ancestry and will do lookups.  Also, I have a local contact in Baltimore who may be persuaded to do some light footwork, if needed.  She personally knows some people named Crawford who reside or resided in Dundalk.  Of course, I don't know if they are related to your Crawfords.

Hi Mona:

Knew it must be a screw up.  Anyway, the offer still stands.  I do have Ancestry--maybe you do also.  If you don't you can send me names, dates, states, etc. and i will be glad to look anything up for you.

Same goes for all members.
Pat

Sorry, Pat--my reply was sent to the list in reply to the email at the bottom of this one--the one from "hellpful preacher"-not to you personally.

I know nothing about this man--just looked it up. The SSDI is free. There is also a Milton Crawford from Ann Arundel County on there. Here is the link to search:

Good luck.

Hi Mona:

You have to tell me when he died on that Social Security index for Balto.  Also, can you tell me who you think he was related to?  Another name?  Or any other info related to Crawford?  Lots of details will help in finding ancestors.

Hi,

Did you check the Social Security Death Index? (Free) There is a Milton Crawford from Baltimore listed.

Hi:

I checked on my Ancestry for Milton Crawford.  I found one (although there are many) that was born in 1909 in Civil District 3, Warren Tenn.  His Mother's name is Nancy also born in Tenn.

Just throwing this out for you--found nothing in Maryland.  Of course, the census for 1940 and 1950 are not available so no way to check that.

If you can give me some more information, I will be glad to look a few things up for you.

I'm trying to find someone who may have been related to a Milton Andrew
Crawford, a white male who worked for the Sun Taxi Companey on Sisson
Street in Baltimore, Maryland in January 1952.

I contacted them some time ago and they said they didn't keep records
that far back.

The DMV didn't have a driver's license for him either, so he could have
lived in a nearby state and drove to work in Maryland every day.

Thank you in advane for any help.
