>The catalyst for this project is to provide an opportunity to show new

>
>We are asking if you would be interested in having a human body as a blank

>
>
>What is the event about?

>We aim to put on an exhibition to entertain and change the perception of

>atmosphere and a relaxed environment.
>
>
>
>We will show-case work from a minimum of ten visual artists. The artists
>will be using a human model as their canvas, in order to compile an

>
>* You will be working either on your own (or in a pair) on a human model.
>* You have to create a piece under the subject "versus- two opposing

>* You will be able to use mediums of your choice - but we would like the
>main focus to be centered on actual paint.
>* You can place "extensions" around the body, as long as the model will be
>able to stand for a least half an hour per session.
>* The model will be modestly clothed.
>* There will need to be at least 60% coverage of the figure when the piece
>is complete.
>* We would need you to be able to be available for the entire day of the
>event - for the completion of the final piece.
>* We would also like a full "dress rehearsal" at least two weeks before the
>event - to dispel any problems.
>* We also plan to document the artistic process:
>* We will also be hanging an exhibition in the venue. This will be the
>showing of preliminary sketches done in preparation for the event.
>* We will also be showing a rough cut documentation of the lead up to the
>event. You would be asked to be involved in the video which will be shown
>on a loop through out the night.
>* We will also be producing a catalogue of the artist and their models. So
>a description of your work and your biography would be needed.
>* We will offer a body paint workshop in advance, to introduce you to
>different styles and techniques
>
>
>
>We are extremely excited and enthusiastic about this event and would be
>very willing to give help and guidance throughout this experience.

>Know One's Fool' is a new quarterly Masterclass in collaboration with BAC.
>You will spend the week training in Jonathan Kay's unique theatre practice,
>in which the world of the Fool predominates, embracing humour and lack of
>inhibition as a means of both entertaining the audience and involving them
>in the theatrical possibility of the moment. Focusing on improvisation,
>physical and interactive theatre, this work is not for the faint hearted!
>The workshop is accessible to both existing performers and non-performers
>who wish to discover their T-Wisted Twin and enter the world of the Fool.
>
>Jonathan Kay is one of the most inspiring and free-thinking theatre
>practitioners I have ever met. He is a unique, genuine and natural
>communicator. A one off. As a teacher and a performer, he is funny,
>frustrating and challenging all at once. He cuts through pretension,
>contrivance, cliché' and ego. There was no hiding place. I learnt a lot
>from him. I would urge anyone to sign-up to his courses and to see his
>shows. He is a philosopher, a fool and a much needed voice of sanity.

>This will be the tenth gathering over a five year period attracting over
>300 south-west based artists involved in participatory arts. The premise
>of our feasts is that an artist-led network involves art as well
>supporting artists. The art form at the centre of the participatory arts
>is Workshop. To engage with Workshop is to participate in Workshop and
>that is why the gathering will be an active participatory event and not
>a sedentary meeting.
>
>
>
>This year a core group, which arose from the dynamic participatory arts
>network generated by the last five years of action, have formed an
>independent limited company. The Moveable Feast Workshop Company
>generates and manages creative events both inside and outside the MF
>Network and promotes workshop as an art form in its own right. The
>relationship between the company and the network is symbiotic. They draw
>their strength from each other.
>
>
>
>The company has had two participatory events at its heart:
>
>* Moving the Feast - a ten-day course that looked at collaborative
>and individual workshop practice.
>* The 9 Diamonds Workshop - regular workshops where the company
>members move the company forward through imaginative activity.
>
>These initiatives have demonstrated the strength of motivation to
>generate an artist-led initiative for workshop artists and to a way of
>doing that does not centre on externally-commissioned studies and
>committee meetings but is
>
>on-going grounded, action group research.
>
>
>
>It has taken a lot of time and energy to start the company but we do not
>want to take our eyes off the primary function that led to its
>inception: to support workshop artists and their practice. If this makes
>sense to you or you are hungry to feast again - let us know! We want to

There is just a handful of 'local' events or groups that get a mention
here. Those of you that are mentioned feel lucky as I sent 3
items for inclusion and none of them have appeared - including one about this
group !

How are your bournemouth arts grants going (there is not mention of them here)

How are your plans for Dorset Art Weeks? (again no mention of it here)

I am going to upload this newsletter into the files section of our group web
page. If you have not seen it already (I think you need to be a yahoo member)
1st visit our web page http://groups.yahoo.com/group/bagel/ and click on the
files link on the left hand side of the page.

From there you can download Bournemouth Arts Grant Applications, Dorset Art
Weeks Newsletter and other useful stuff ;) I fyou

“An exhibition that incorporates movement through human models, static pieces and a multi-media documentation. It will be a social three hour event, aimed at young professionals interested in the concept of art”

You are invited to create a “living” exhibition for an event on 15th March 06.  The event will be based around the visual and performance arts, in conjunction to music and the generation of a specific atmosphere within the venue.  We want to put on an evening show to give the audience a unique cultural experience.

We are asking if you would be interested in having a human body as a blank canvas to produce a living sculpture.

What is the event about?

We aim to put on an exhibition to entertain and change the perception of the way people perceive a standard exhibition. We aim to achieve this through the amalgamation of an interactive show with music from a DJ, atmosphere and a relaxed environment.

We will show-case work from a minimum of ten visual artists. The artists will be using a human model as their canvas, in order to compile an exhibition of living sculpture. We aim to generate a new way in which people view the visual arts.

  • You will be working either on your own (or in a pair) on a human model.
  • You have to create a piece under the subject “versus- two opposing forces“
  • You will be able to use mediums of your choice – but we would like the main focus to be centered on actual paint.
  • You can place “extensions” around the body, as long as the model will be able to stand for a least half an hour per session.
  • The model will be modestly clothed.
  • There will need to be at least 60% coverage of the figure when the piece is complete.

  • We would need you to be able to be available for the entire day of the event – for the completion of the final piece.

  • We would also like a full “dress rehearsal” at least two weeks before the event – to dispel any problems.

  • We also plan to document the artistic process:
  • We will also be hanging an exhibition in the venue.  This will be the showing of preliminary sketches done in preparation for the event.

  • We will also be showing a rough cut documentation of the lead up to the event.  You would be asked to be involved in the video which will be shown on a loop through out the night.

  • We will also be producing a catalogue of the artist and their models.  So a description of your work and your biography would be needed.

  • We will offer a body paint workshop in advance, to introduce you to different styles and techniques

We are extremely excited and enthusiastic about this event and would be very willing to give help and guidance throughout this experience.

We will be unable to pay for your time and skills.  Your work will be the main focus of our event.  This is something that can get your name and work recognized within the sector and Bournemouth.

After taking a look at this site it would appear that the voluntary arts network
is getting a bit paranoid about losing out to the Olympics with future funding.
To counter act this they would like us to have a say in the current lottery
consultation and they have even produced a tool-kit to help people complete the
online questionairre (allow 20 min).

Even if you don’t do the questionnaire or are interested in voluntary arts there
is still loads of useful information in the toolkit that you can use to help
with completing funding applications. Including reams of text beneath headings
like – how do voluntary arts contribute to social and individual development,
how they contribute to the local economy etc.

With Bournemouth arts grant deadlines on the horizon (28th Feb) I couldn’t help
sharing this with you.

Apologies for those that already receive VAN Newsletter but they make this sound
really important so I thought I better share it with everyone. They have even
developed a tool-kit for completing the form. This is what they say.........

'it is absolutely vital that we all do this otherwise we risk losing funding for
the arts.'

Hi there

It may have been some time since you last heard from us directly, but we are still very active within the city.

The New Year holds great potential for the arts organisation a space but until then here is a little something to keep you going.

Postcards from Paradise

The arts organisation a space welcomes the opportunity to work with the world-renowned wild life photographer, Chris Packham.

Chris will be showing a selection of the many images from his vast collection, accumulated throughout his career.

Many of the images captured are not necessarily from any particular assignment he was working on, but a subject

matter that caught his eye in an opportune moment.  In many ways he is a purist choosing to rely on skills learnt to

produce the perfect image not willing to manipulate what's captured.

The show is being held at the nextstep gallery at the Dolphin Hotel, in High Street, Southampton from the 24th November 2005 until 24th February 2006 .

There will be an opportunity to meet Chris on Tuesday 13th December between 6.30 -8.30pm where he will be happy to discuss his work.

In addition, all the images are for sale. This is the perfect opportunity to own a captured moment in time, by a world renowned

practitioner of wild life study, which can never be replicated

Editors notes:  For additional information, images or an interview please contact Jackie at the above contact details.

THE EMPTY QUARTER
1ST—10TH DECEMBER
Private view 8th Dec 7-9pm

The Art Works studios are pleased to host The Empty Quarter, an
exhibition of recent work by seven emerging national and international
artists.

The works, though diverse in their media, (video, painting, sculpture and
installation), have a commonality in their theme. The artists explore
the location of the ‘viewpoint’ and examine the notions of
fragmentation, dissociation and isolation.

Bournemouth Schools Totem Project

Support Artists Brief

Fee: £2,000

Up to 20 days @ £100 per day (including travel)

Project Description:

Pupils from a range of Bournemouth Schools have worked on inclusive arts projects (visual arts, dance, drama, media and music), based on stories and designs from Northwest Pacific (British Columbia) first peoples. This has generated a wealth of material that will be interpreted into a series of hand-carved totem poles that will be raised in Boscombe Gardens, Bournemouth, in February.

We are looking to employ a support artist to work on the project, shadowing sculptor Kate Arnold.

Artists Role:

1. The support artist will work alongside Kate Arnold with a cross-section of school groups to finalise designs for the sculpture, informed by the work that they have created throughout the project to this point.

2. Groups of pupils will then be invited to visit the Forestry Commission site (near Bournemouth) to observe the carving taking place, ideally having the opportunity to experience carving themselves.

Key Dates:

-         Workshops will take place throughout December, January and early February. Dates are negotiable.

How to apply:

Please submit a written proposal to the address below by Friday 2nd December indicating why you would like to be involved in this project and what you will bring to it.

Please show evidence of previous work which reflects your understanding of participatory arts work with young people.

This is to do with the arts institute's new enterprise paviliion so I thought it
should go up here. It also follows on from the other event they're having on
23rd 'opening doors for professional development with arts'.
