Description

Welcome! We're here to discuss strategies for taking children of all ages into the wilderness, and to share our stories of children (both ours and others') on the trail. We welcome stone-cold beginners, experienced backcountry travelers, and everybody in-between. Come on in!

Yes the tarp is a good idea if you are comfortable with pitching it. We have a large tarp that sleeps 6 comfortably when pitched low. We used it in Yosemite

If bugs aren't a big worry where you hike, you could use a tarp as a sleeping shelter, its much lighter and cheaper than a bunch of tents.
