Description

A Walk in the Park Unschooling/Relaxed Homeschooling Group is dedicated to non-structured, child-directed learning. We believe children learn best when they are not forced or coerced into that learning. We believe in showing kindness and gentless to all creation. We believe all people and creatures should be treated with gentleness - including our own children. A Walk in the Park Unschooling Group is founded on Christian principles; people of all beliefs, faiths, and creeds are welcome. All should be respectful of others' beliefs, faith, and creed.

What is unschooling all about? Unschoolers typically believe children will learn if we allow their imaginations to take flight. I, personally, have been amazed at what children will learn when they are allowed to follow their own delights. Unschooling is about learning from real life.

Unschooling is not about unparenting. Children need guidance. A Walk in the Park Unschooling Group believes children learn best by the example set by their parent/parents. A Walk in the Park believes discipline is a personal issue, unique to each family; but we do encourage gentle discipline and attachment parenting. We also encourage showing kindness to creation in general. A Walk in the Park Unschooling Group does not believe we have to inflict harm on someone or something else in order to learn. We do believe there are careers that our children may choose in which it is necessary to learn in more traditional ways; but as much kindness as possible should be shown in these endeavors. Again, we believe this is a personal choice; and all are encouraged to join. This is simply the mission statement of A Walk in the Park Unschooling Group.

Re: Anyone from Topeka?
I am not in Topeka, but I have heard there is an inclusive homeschooling group there.  I hope that helps.  Kandy Crosby-Hastings
