Sorabh,

Iam not sure if you are talking about "THE" Mattel.

Mattel is one of the largest toy manufacturer worldwide. Their world
headquarters are located in El Segundo California, which is a city in the
Los Angeles metropolitan area.

I think they own or have rights to brands like HotWheels, Elmo, Barbie,
Harry Potter etc.

You can visit their website at http://www.mattel.com

Hi Mack,

Yes, you are right, we focussed only on a small section, we would very
soon
start focussing on removing poverty from third-world countries and
nuclear
disarmament of all the nuclear powers!!!!!!!!!!!!! Are u for
real?????????
OR are u the typical hypocrite who has words and nothing else to offer?

Why dont u take the initiative of helping and collecting funds for the
things
u feel are more important? What and who stops u from taking these
initiatives? And if u have taken initiatives and are a part of
organization
that helps people (which I highly doubt!!) why dont u tell us about it?
If
(and only IF) after that u dont get response start the updesh!

First of all, we helped Bharti Kadam cause someone bought it to our
attention.
Its a start, however small, we all are trying to make a difference. Its
a
START!!!!!!! Secondly, I am yet to meet someone here (specially Sangi
crowd),
who has not in some way or the other not helped in relief funds for all
recent calamities. Yes, that does include Kargil and Earth-Quake victims
of
Gujarat!!!!!!!!!!!! It may not have happened through the college
website, but
people contributed anyways! Also, it is just incidental that Bharti
Kadam
was the first, it may have been some other student too, maybe not even
from
Sangamner. The first is from Sangamner cause there are people who we
know and
and communicate to and make sure the funds are well utilized! Thats all.

Moreover, every contribution that has been put in, is with the right
thought,
and no right thought is small or insignificant! I am sorry but I cant
say the
same for your thoughts!

Again, for the thinking impaired - This is a start and we all are
resolute on
this cause and hopefully it would grow in more ways than we can think
of!

Thank u for amusing all of us! Hope u can find peace in your deeds
rather
than in criticizing others!

-Nachiket Desai

I agree in partial.

But when you have scores of ppl who need help, even one counts. This is a begining, to be of help to our college and stretching our hands, and not really a manifestation of our a parochial thought process restricting us to AV college syndrome as Mack calls it.

All of us here have limited resources and a limited effort can be made to help out. So obviously a limited scope can only be outlined(incidently AV college is the scope). If you can help a small community/institution/individual, in a country, you are ultimately helping the country too. So its very laudable that we even managed to be of some help to someone in need.

As for not having done similar stuff for gujrat earthquake or kargil martyrs -> How can one judge whose need is greater and what are weighing parameters? Is a students education of importance, or is a hungry child in need for food more important or a war martyr of greater importane. Its all relative and your own judgement. No rules on whom to help and how to help.

Ofcourse, there is nothing wrong if can broaden our scope and vision.

Anyways, those were my two cents

(In betw, Hi guys, long time, I hardly say much here).

Regards,

Sai

Mack,
Excellent point.
But it seems you wrote this mail without knowing who all have donated
to this cause and what other donations have been made by them.

so let me explain.
Most of us who have donated money for Bharati Kadam's educational
fund have also donated money for the Kargil Army widows welfare fund,
Gujarat victim's fund, the Orissa flood victims, CRY foundation where
we have run 10 Kms to raise money for the impoverished children in
India every year since the last 3 years and will also be doing it
this year in September. We haven't restricted ourselves to only
Indian charity instituitons but also have been part of other
instiutions like Save Afghan children, these are the ones that I am
aware of.

The thing is none of us have come out openly and asked for help in
this mailing list as there are other mailing lists where we can ask
for help.
The reason this mailing list was used was only because there was no
other way to contact people from our college to help a student from
the same college who had asked for our help. This was just a start
and we are planning to help more people.

We do a lot of things in life my friend but I don't think this
mailing list should be used to describe to all what we have been
doing though I just did that :) We just try to help as there is only
so much that we can do.

As far as having a Avcollege syndrome that is the best thing to have
happened. It has become a part of us and that is the reason why even
you my friend is on this mailing list. No escape from it period.

As far as telling us what our goals should be, I bet you haven't met
a single one of us and to think that you were amused by us trying to
help someone ..hmmmmmmm

Regards,
-Anil-

Mack,

The college approached us for helping someone and we helped her.

Whatever you have suggested is really great. But let me ask you a simple
question . What have you done personally to address these issues in India ?
Its easy to talk and write e-mails. Let's see your contribution towards
these great causes. Why don't you take and initiatoive and start a drive for
these great causes. It easy to talk but when the time come for action people
like you run away like politicians. Let us know what can you do for these
children in India??

Moreover I don't even know if you are from Av College or not ?? By the way
who are you ??

Hi Folks,

I have some pictures of Sangamner (3.5MB). Since the avcollege group
does not have enough space to upload, I have uploaded the pictures
(zip file in file section) on a group called 'shaaneys'. This is the
group for friends in NJ. Sanjay Prabhakaran, Ashish Saxena and
myself are members. You can contact anyone of us for pictures. The
pictures in the zip file are 800X600. The original pictures that I
have are roughly 2000X2000. So if anyone is interested in high res
pics, please contact me.

It might be a better idea to wait, cause I would be working out with
Jassi as to how to get the photos to him for uploading it on the
site. You can always download later.

INS To Require: Register Or Else
--------------------

Noncitizens Must Report Changes Of Address To U.S.

Wire And Staff Reports

July 23, 2002

WASHINGTON -- To better track foreigners in the country, the Justice Department
on Monday said it will tighten enforcement against noncitizens who do not
register their addresses as the law demands.

Relying on a long-neglected 50-year-old law, the Justice Department said all
noncitizens would have to report changes of address within 10 days. Failure to
do so would be a criminal offense, putting foreigners at risk of financial
penalties, jail and even deportation.

The plan would apply to 10 million people older than 14 who are living in the
United States legally but not as American citizens.

Attorney General John Ashcroft said enforcing the change of address requirement
would help secure U.S. borders.

"By clarifying the existing requirement that noncitizens report their address to
the Immigration and Naturalization Service, we are able to increase our ability
to locate quickly an alien if removal proceedings must be initiated," said
Ashcroft.

But immigrant advocates denounced the move as overreaching and said the attempt
to enforce the old law would not improve security.

"The attorney general is threatening to put people in jail and have them
deported for the equivalent of having an overdue library book," said Angela
Kelley, a director of the National Immigration Forum in Washington.

"It is ludicrous to believe this is going to keep us safe from terrorism. No
terrorist is going to turn in a change of address form. This is only going to
hurt the law-abiding immigrants who are trying to keep pace with all the things
we require."

The announcement was part of a continuing effort by the federal government to
overhaul the lax and disorganized system of tracking foreign visitors and
residents that had long been in effect before the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

The INS and U.S. colleges already are racing to complete a computerized system
to monitor foreign students by next year. In addition, the INS is working on a
long-awaited plan to record all foreign entries and exits across U.S. borders.

And just days ago, the Justice Department disclosed a precedent-setting
agreement with Florida for local police to play a greater role in enforcing
immigration laws to protect national security.

The INS will update nearly three dozen forms used by immigrants to notify them
of the requirements, officials said. The regulation applies to all noncitizens
staying in the United States more than 30 days. The INS plans to enforce the
rule after a 60-day comment period.

But critics wondered whether the beleaguered INS was prepared to take on such a
demanding and sensitive responsibility. The INS is often criticized for losing
paperwork or sending notices to the wrong address - miscues that can greatly
complicate legal proceedings involving immigrants.

Immigration advocates also said the information would be useless, because the
INS lacked the computer capability.

"What they are doing is creating a system that will not be able to use the
information that they get," said Judith Golub, senior director of advocacy and
public affairs for the American Immigration Lawyers Association in Washington,
D.C. "Right now the INS has no ability to match notification with a specific
person's file."

The Justice Department acknowledges that the registration rule has not been
enforced, and that few legal aliens register with the government, in Connecticut
or anywhere else in the United States.

For Connecticut, Jamaica and Poland were the two largest sources of legal
immigration in both 1999 and 2000 according to INS records. In the Hartford
area, enforcing the regulation would affect those two groups the most because
they have large numbers of people who have not become U.S. citizens, said Kweku
J. Hanson, a Hartford-based lawyer who practices immigration law.

Besides the onerous requirement of forcing immigrants to deal more often with
overcrowded INS offices, Hanson said the new regulations would only "drive
underground" law-abiding legal immigrants.

"It's a dog chasing its tail situation. It doesn't accomplish anything of
substance," Hanson said. "I don't think aliens are going to be in enthusiastic
compliance. It's going to intimidate many of them."

But some viewed the plan as a legitimate effort by the government to begin to
get a handle on the nation's fast-changing and highly mobile immigrant
population.

"The government of the United States should know where aliens are residing in
the United States, who they are, and how may of them there are," said Mark
Krikorian, executive director of the Center for Immigration Studies, a
restrictionist group in Washington. "And the fact is we don't."

Folks,

Demand Draft of 25,000Rs was delivered indirectly to Bharti Kadam. When
I went to the college, no one was around, so I had to leave it with
Borkar. I had spoken to Dhumal Sir on the phone and he asked me to leave
it with Borkar.

I had actually written a mail from india about this, but dont know why
it did not show up in the group.Anyways...

The campus has changed a lot...for the better ofcourse. Some low points:
someone already mentioned, Sudhir's booze permit had been taken away and
they were working on getting a new one. Secondly, there is a wall around
the hostel area and the rule is that no one is allowed outside the walls
after 11:30pm. Well, they would never enjoy the walk back from Sudhir
with booze in hand and the singing in the fields!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have some pics of the new campus, would send it as soon as I get a
chance. I have some pics of Sudhir and staff too!!! The food at Sudhir
is still the best!!!

Cheers
Nachiket
