Despite Arm Wraths rather glowing description of
my abilities with the Bodhran, I assure you I do not
"play" the bodhran. That is to say, I would be lost in a
band for I do not know the proper techinques for that
purpose.

I use my Bodhran to "speak" to the Earth, the
ancestors, the Gods. I first honour and acknowledge the
spirit presence of the goat, whose skin was used to form
the drum. I also honour the skilled craftsman who
formed the Bodhran with care. I listen for the voice of
the Bodhran to speak to me. I simply give that voice
sound.

When used in drumming circles the Bodhran "answers" or
"sings" it's own story. Many times as the others begin to
drum, my Bodhran will vibrate and hum, supporting the
group until the correct time comes and it gives voice
to it's power.

The Bodhran is a powerful
tool,(mine is painted with a Celtic Knot and looks like a
shield)it comforts and empowers. Enjoy your Bodhran.

Get to know it, feel it's spirit and let it speak to
you and for you. The Gods and the Ancestors will
smile and with rapt attention Bless you.

I leave
you with Gentle Blessings
--Inion

I also have a Bodhran, and enjoy playing it. When
I first received mine, Inion showed me how to. You
should receive a wooden drummer with it. I suggest you
wrap one end
of it with ginghem or a soft fabric.
It will enhance the sound.
Hold the drum from the
back, and softly strike, one can feel the life of the
drum.
Many people play the bodhran differenty. No two are
the same. I am sure you will find
much happiness
with it.
I hope I have been of some help to you.
Inion however, plays a great bodhran.
Many Blessings
to you.
Arm Wrath

would be interested as well. As always, with the love

Greetings Ladifaire,

I would love to be
able to recommend some herbal therapy for your mother
to use. But, without being able to see her, examine
her, and talk with her this is impossible and
unethical. You may wish to seek out an herbalist locally to
assist you.
I do recommend the following , which is
an excellent overall toner and blood cleanser. All
the the herbs are extremely beneficial, easily
rounded up and will not have an adverse reaction with any
medications she may be taking.

Prepared as a tea,
sweetened with honey as needed.
Burdock leaf, use the
small new shoots. (easy to locate this time of
year)
Nettles, yes stinging nettles, the whole herb
RedClover
tops. These can be purchased dried at any herb shop or
metaphysical shop.
By the mug:
2-3 clover
blossoms
1/2 of a small or 1 small burdock leaf
3-4 nettle
leaves

Pour boiling water over all and let steep 5-10 minutes
or to taste. naturally the longer it sets, the
stronger it gets.
Sweeten with honey as needed. Also
good over ice.
Take one cup 2 times a day. This is
a very beneficial tea and you cannot overdose on
it.It is very gentle, and tasty as
well.

Stubborn sores, can benefit from equal parts of powdered
echinacea and goldenseal sprinkled directly into the wound.
(this is widely available at drug and discount stores
in little capsules, simply open the cap and presto!)
the echinacea also has a nice numbing effect as
well.
A salve made with echinacea is also nice to have on
hand as is one made with Goldenseal and
Comfrey.

I pray that the Gods bless you and your loved ones
and look after you all.

With Gentle

give her a big smile for keeping up with my club and

Greetings to All:

The use of Druid Sticks
as a form of divination has it's roots in geomancy.
This form of divination is also modern and not
ancient. This however, does not diminish it's
applications.
Druid Sticks are also known as Rune sticks.

The
sticks are made from 4 oblong pieces of wood. Each stick
is marked with a single mark on one side and two
marks on the other. Apple wood is traditional, but
certainly for a novice, craft sticks are an inexpensive and
easily acquired item.

To cast the sticks,
prepare a casting cloth. This traditionally has been an
animal hide, but any natural cloth works well. The
sticks are held between the hands and mixed. They are
dropped or "cast" with the Power hand. They are gently
smoothed together, and aligned.

The marks create
one of sixteen possible pattern combinations. Each
with a unique interpretation.

My particular set
of sticks are fashioned out of oak. They have not
been stained, but have been rubbed to a lovely glow
with consecrated ritual oil. I keep them in a special
bag and handle them with as much respect as my other
tools of divination.

I'd be happy to give
additional information to anyone interested.

I leave
you all with the Gentle Blessings of the Dagda!

Viking Runes (SORRY MANY OF THE SYMBOLS WON'T
SHOW UP!)
Runes are part of a primitive alphabet
developed by the Vikings. Runic inscriptions have been
found in caves and on stones throughout Scandinavian
region of Europe and in the British Isles. Using Runes
as a system of fortune telling dates back nearly
2,000 years. They can be drawn on paper, wood, stone,
shells, or clay fragments. There are a total of 37 Runes
but this set of 7 are a few of the most important.
// Parjuk: Travel. Represents a road, stream or
fjord and may mean that travel to a distant place will
soon occur. Symbolizes a beginning of a personal quest
or new direction in the path of one’s
life.
ɣ Ysgadril: Fertility. Sacred tree from which all
life springs. New Beginnings and the culmination of
past efforts. That, which you have sought for a long
time is close at hand, but will begin a new cycle.
ɳ Nanut: Endings. It is a sacred waterfall where
all great rivers flowed over the edge of the Earth.
The waters from these rivers would eventually fall
from the sky as rain, thus returning to the Earth. A
phase of your life is at an end. It will nurture itself
into the next and prepare to sail over the spiritual
waterfall.
ʋ Vara: Love. Valkyrie, the goddess who escorted
the souls of the warrior-dead Valhalla, or Heaven.
Her magic powers could heal every wound. Past
injuries will be remedied and bliss and happiness will
soon be found.
ɷ Odin: Wisdom. Odin is the
father of all gods, Represents judgement and strength;
it is a warning Rune, telling not to act rashly.
Think of your past experiences and what you have
learned from them to act wisely. Exercise moral judgement
at this time. Don’t let your thoughts become clouded
by unimportant matters. And act with strength,
because there are forces that oppose you at this time.
Only through stern and strong actions can you
prevail.
ɸ Thor: Thunder. Mythical hammer which he would
beat against the sky meaning a great storm approaches
(adversity all around). But Thor greatly respects courage
and strength, so to survive the storm you must steer
directly into the wind and have no fear. Prepare
yourself.
∴ Loki: Evil and Treachery. Sly dealing,
conspiracy, theft, dishonesty, and wickedness are represented
by this Rune. It is a warning that you may have
offended someone and he or she seeks revenge, but more
likely there are forces of evil working against you.
Loki plotted in secret, but if his secrets were
discovered he would surrender and sneak away. Thus, through
awareness and observation, you can foil those forces
working against you.

CRANE BAG
This receptacle for the ancient
Hallows of Ireland was owned by Manannan mac Lir. It was
formed from the skin of Aoife, Manannan's son's
mistress, who had been changed into a crane because of her
jealous behaviour. In it were kept Manannan's house,
shirt, knife, the belt and smith's hook of Goibniu, the
shears of the King of Alba, the helmet of the King of
Lochlann, the belt of fish-skin, and the bones of Asal's
pig which the son of Tuirenn had been sent to fetch
by Lugh. The treasures were only visible at
high-tide, at the ebbtide they would vanish. The bag was
passed from Manannan to Lugh, then to Cumhal and finally
to Fionn. The contents of the crane's bag correspond
to the Hallows of Annwn and to the treasures guarded
by Twrch Trwyth.

The isle of Arran is one of
the homes of Manannan mac Lir. It was anciently
called Emhain Abhlach (E-vain A-va-loch), the Holy Hill
of Trees, just as Glastonbury was once called
Avalon, the Place of Apples. Manannan mac Lir possesses
many wonderful treasures. One is the Cloak of
Invisibility and Forgetfulness, which he shakes between the
lovers Cuchulainn and Fand so that they will no longer
remember the love they shared and the bitterness of their
parting. Manannan also owns the Crane Bag, a magickal bag
made from the skin of a woman of the sidhe who had
been changed into a crane. This bag contained all of
the treasures of Manannan mac Lir. He gave it to the
father of Finn MacCuill, the leader of the Fianna. Cuill
is the same as coll which means hazel, so Finn's
name is actually Finn Son of Hazel. Lugh was the long
time owner of the crane bag.

Earliest records
tell of shamans carrying a bag or pouch made of crane
skin which carried magickal tools. In Celtic
tradition, the crane bag has enormous significance. Most
stories revolve around Fionn Mac Cumhail who obtained his
father's crane bag by skill and cunning. In his early
years, he was saved from death by his grandmother, who
then took the shape of the crane. She hid him from the
world in the heart of a great tree.

The crane
bag seems to have originated with the sea-god
Mannanan mac Lir who kept precious magickal items in it.
The crane bag is a sort of tool-kit for shamans as
they divine, heal, and walk between the worlds.

To receive the protection of the crane bag card, one
must shapeshift or metamorphose any ill-natured
behavior within the self and align with a magickal code of
ethics (the goal of our journey through the Tines).

The Crane Bag is often used to hold Ogham (finger
sized pieces of wood, on which have been
burned/engraved the 20 Ogham signs. The Crane Bag is deeply
embedded in celtic lore, as a Shaman’s personal pouch in
which he carries objects of Otherworldly power. In
Welsh tradition, it is made of leather dyed with blue
woad. Power sotnes/gems, magical rings, feathers – any
personal power objects that you use in Magic can be
carried inside. It was once said that the very soul of a
Shaman resideds within his Crane bag. It is an elder
totem animal who delivers visions & wisdom.

To
Create your own crane bag, cut a round piece of leather
about the size of a dinner plate, punching holes at
1-inch intervals around the outer edge, 1-inch in. Weave

The Lost Books of Merlyn

“The trees are
asleep. Yet, if anything has the potential to influence
the World consciousness of mankind toward
Earth-preservation, it is they…”

The whole book is based upon
an ancient text of Druidic myth and legend. A part
of this deals with the power of the major trees and
how they are to be awakened as a protector and a sort
of sage. It even talks about ley lines if that clues
you in on anything.

The major trees are:
birch, rowan, alder, willow, ash, hawthorn, oak, holly,
hazel, apple, vine, ivy, reed, blackthorn, elder, fur,
furze, heather, popular, and yew. I know it is a little
vague but let me clarify a bit. First to invoke the
tree you wish to communicate with, approach it alone
and touch it with your hand or staff, and recite the
Spell of Making softly.
“Anail Nathrock
(Ah-Nahl-Nahth-Rock)
Uthvass Bethudd (Oooth-Vass Beth-Ooodh)
Dochiel
Dienve” (Dough-cheil Dee-ehn-veh)*

Now you have
the tree’s attention; it has sensed an ancient sound
sequence which belongs specifically to the Celtic/Druidic
archetype. (*Note- in the word Dochiel, the ‘ch’ sound is
un-voiced, not hard like the word chicken, but soft like the
word loch.
The evocation notifies the tree that you
call on it to awaken. Across the surface of the tree’s
bark in front of you, trace the OGHAM SIGN for the
particular tree with the fingers of your right hand. While
tracing, speak the Triune Name which will bring the rree
to conciousness. This name has three parts, receding
from the present into the distant past. For example,
the triune name for the Oak recites:
OAK..DUIR..DAIBHAITH, and is explained as follows,
OAK (english,
present)…
DUIR (welsh/druidic, past)…
Daibhaith (gortigern,
distant past)…
They should be spoken clearly, with
solid authority. Only following the sequence of sound
exactly will bring the desired results- see
chart

The blessing or goodbye is makde when you knock three
times on the trunk, and the tree will gradually awaken
to the call. It is pretty simple if you want to try
it and might make you feel good to do it.
There
is also another thing which just involves staring at
a series of celtic knots, sort of hypnotizing
effect which anyone can do, protection rights, and
sun/moon washing which is a sort of inner
strength/cleansing thing, and much more. I would love to tell you
the whole story of the battle of the trees but I
would be writing forever.

“…opening the Gorchan,
I sang by the light of Dawn, the first verse of the
Song of the Forest Trees- high and strong. Boldly, I
spoke aloud the secret Name of Power which Ogma
Sun-Face had given that tree at the beginning of time,
then finished by knocking three time upon the mighty
trunk. And I could feel it- right throught the ground at
my feet, sure as rain—a tremor! A shudder of
awakening ran smooth through its being from leaf to root.”
