African Student Union (more commonly known as ASU) is an umbrella organization for all Black organizations on the CSULB campus. This includes academic, social, and fraternities and sororities. The four main points that are essential to the vision of ASU are as follows:
1. Unity: to bring unity to the African community on campus and use unity as a tool to bring the surrounding community together.
2. Knowledge: to inform the masses about our history and culture and to increase knowledge in our communities.
3. Family: to create a network of Africans that will act as a family to many who may be on their own in their college careers. We also wish to help rebuild the family structures in our communities.
4. Afro centricity: to inform students of the African perspective in all areas and to shift paradigms so that students and others will be able to identify and uphold African heritage in a Euro-centric society.
