CHICAGO (thefutoncritic.com) -- UPN will continue to ride on the
success of "America's Next Top Model" through the 2004-05 season, as
the network announced today it has picked up the series for a third
and fourth cycle.
Here's UPN's statement about the news (via press release):
UPN PICKS UP A THIRD AND FOURTH CYCLE OF HOT DRAMALITY
SERIES "AMERICA'S NEXT TOP MODEL" WITH TYRA BANKS
On the heels of Tuesday's record-breaking ratings, which placed UPN
first at 9:00PM among women 18-34 and second among adults 18-34, UPN
will hit the catwalk again picking up a third and fourth cycle of
AMERICA'S NEXT TOP MODEL, the hit dramality series featuring
supermodel Tyra Banks.
AMERICA'S NEXT TOP MODEL gives young women an opportunity to prove
that they can make it in the high-stress, high-stakes world of
supermodeling. The series follows participants of various
backgrounds, shapes and sizes while they live together in a New York
loft and compete in weekly tests as they vie for a modeling
contract.
AMERICA'S NEXT TOP MODEL has become a monumental success for UPN,
delivering record-breaking ratings and triple-digit growth in key
demos. AMERICA'S NEXT TOP MODEL has ranked first in its time period
each week during the current cycle among women 18-34, and the most
recent episode (1/27/04) ranked second in its time period among
UPN's target demographic of adults 18-34 (3.9/11) and persons 12-34
(4.0/11).
Delivering UPN's best ratings EVER in the Tuesday 9:00-10:00PM time
period among women 18-34 (6.1/15) and women 18-49 (5.1/11), the most
recent episode of AMERICA'S NEXT TOP MODEL also ranked as the third
highest rated telecast in UPN's history with women 18-34. AMERICA'S
NEXT TOP MODEL also scored UPN's second best time period performance
ever among adults 18-34 (3.9/11), adults 18-49 (3.4/8) and total
viewers (7.11 million).
Producers will soon begin a nationwide talent search for a diverse
group of young of real women who will vie to become the next top
model. Applications to enter the third cycle of the competition will
be available soon exclusively at www.upn.com.
The executive producers are Ken Mok ("Making the Band") and Tyra
Banks. AMERICA'S NEXT TOP MODEL is produced by 10 by 10
Entertainment in association with Ty Ty Baby Productions. The
dramality was created by Tyra Banks and developed by Mok and Kenya
Barris.

Yesterday during On Air with Ryan Seacrest, Tyra said she and co-
executive producer Ken Mok were planning a spin-off of the show, but
she wouldn't say what it was. She did confirm that they won't be
spinning off a male model competition ("Who cares? You guys want to
see girls.") nor a kid model competition ("I don't believe in the
whole kid thing"). Maybe corpses will compete to replace Janice
Dickinson?
