Academy of Super-Heroes #102: Rival Schools Part 2: Cram School - It's a week of
studying, assessment and playing pranks on the teacher. Well, trying to, anyway.
Cool.

Coherent Super Stories #18 - "Black Buddha of Bhutan" featuring Jack of All
Trades: Jack Ripley's travels in search of the odd and unexplained have taken
him to an obscure corner of China where darkness dwells.... Written for High
Concept Challenge #4.
I like the mix of tying up loose ends and starting a new storyline.
Glad you didn't end it at 100.

Academy of Super-Heroes #101: Rival Schools Part 1 - Superpowers 101</a> - The
main cast of ASH gets to take a break, but it's back to school for a lot of
members of the supporting cast...and not everyone is going to like the lessons
being taught.
I think the Bloc Quebecois has been established to still exist in the 2020s, but
other than that I really haven't dealt with the issue of political parties. I
may do an essay about this later (ASH #101 is nearing completion, and I have an
idea for High Concept #4 I want to do next, so it's gonna be a while) but I
figured I'd drop a few ideas here and see if it'd spark discussion. I don't
currently have plans for anyone to be running for office, but I realized the
other day that I'd gone fifteen years without really addressing this. :)
FEMA likely tried to prop up existing political parties (most of the movers and
shakers went poof in 1998) in order to preserve as much of the status quo as
possible, but the formation of the North American Combine would have forced the
creation of coalitions at the least, and might have led to entirely new parties
being created out of pieces of the old.
I figure that the GOP still exists, in reduced form, as the American South's
version of the BQ. A regional interest party, strong in their home territory
but largely ignored in other States or even other parts of America. The more
opportunist right-wingers would have joined one or more new national-level
parties or coalitions.
A right-wing coalition party definitely exists, but it's got the Democratic
Party as its nucleus, and it won't call itself anything smacking of
conservatism. Canada is the most conservative of the territories added to the
Combine, and its right wing party looks a lot like the Dems in terms of policy
outlook (or did as of about 2002, the last time I paid close attention to
Canadian politics). Mexico, Isthmus, Caribbean and Pacifica states would be
even farther to the left, and there's probably a left wing coalition that is
largely made up of non-American politicians and a few "far-left" Americans.
There's almost definitely at least a couple of strong minor parties that are
religion-specific, but there's no guarantee they'd be part of the rightist
coalition. Notably, a Catholic party strong in Mexico and the minor States
would probably be part of the leftist bloc. There probably isn't a specifically
atheist party, but given the polarization of religious camps following 1998 into
monotheists and atheists, an atheist caucus of sorts definitely exists in the
lower house to block moves by any of the religious parties to chip away at
separation of church and state.

Awesome!Really glad you're not ending the series, too!
Oh, and way to go, getting me hooked on TVTropes! Spent the last couple of
days reading stuff over there.
I am always fascinated by the process, so I appreciate the notes at the end.
I've never been able to work that way. I always bog down and get bored and
then can't carry on. I think that's why HeroBlog and Ad Astra work for me.
With HeroBlog, all I have to do is come up with short segments, rarely does
it require an extended storyline. With Ad Astra, I break just about every
rule in comics. I don't have a tight plot, I don't do thumbnails before I
start the page, I lay out the panels of a strip and then figure out what I
want in them (sometimes I have to redraw a page, because of this, but it's
worked for me, so far)
Have a great vacation(from writing) and I can't wait to see where we're
going, next.

Time Capsules #12 - Think of the Children: Written by Saxon Brenton for High
Concept Challenge #2 and wrapped in a 2135 framing sequence by Dave Van Domelen.
Apparently the hamsters from the ASH Holiday Special #1 bred a civilisation, and
their descendants realised that they might not be able to coexist with
humanity....

Academy of Super-Heroes #100: Rising Sun Part 4: Starslayers - The plot to
return Doublecross from beyond the grave comes to a head as the Freedom Alliance
strives to capture Okinawa in a virtual World War II, while the Photonics fight
back in the real world! Special gatefold cover by Saxon Brenton!
Epilogue rough done, "only" 300 lines. Now to proof and write the endnotes.
Barring disaster, I should make the posting date next week, for the 15th
anniversary. Haven't seen Saxon's progress on the cover yet, though.

Hm, template doesn't quite translate to females, the Tactical belts don't seem
to be available. (FWIW, I'm trying to stick with costume pieces accessible to
beginning players with no add-ons bought.) Replace the belt with Tech Flat.
The jacket's a bit smaller than I'd like, as seen on Jen Kleinvogel, who's
definitely not being played:
http://www.eyrie.org/~dvandom/ASH/gallery/kleinvogelCoH.JPG
Obviously, the exact STRAFE uniform can't be made, since there's no belted long
retro jackets or shoulder patches, but here's a decent compromise that doesn't
have weird gapping (I tried longer sleeves, but only the Retro sleeves go with
the Retro jacket without gaps).
Pick two accent colors for the character, assuming you're not making a canonical
uniform. Accent 1 will be the pants, accent 2 will be the gloves and chest.
The chest emblem will use both accents. The other color will be the dark gray
that's second from the left in the top row.
Head: Your pick.
Upper Body: Jackets.
Jacket - Retro, dark gray
Sleeves - Retro, dark gray
Chest - Tights Smooth, accent 2
Shoulders - None
Chest Detail - Over, pick a good symbol, uses both accents
Gloves - Smooth/Bare, Long Sleeves, accent 2
Belt - Tactical 2, the primary color is the brown at the far right side of the
second row, the secondary color is the dark gold that's row 4, column 5.
Lower Body: Tight
Pants - Patent Leather, accent 1
Boots - Motorcycle, both colors are dark gray
http://www.eyrie.org/~dvandom/ASH/gallery/grindCoH.JPG to see how it worked for
Grind. I mainly made this so I could save the STRAFE template, though, and
don't yet plan to play any STRAFErs on CoH. Also, "Grind" was taken as a name.

About the easiest way to do Star Knight (or at least, his armor). Little
bit of photomanip for the eyes. The helmet is part of the Roman set, which
you get from doing the Imperious Task Force, so obviouly not something you'd
put together for level 1.
-John Scheibeler
Of course, the new expansion Going Rogue will allow you to cross characters
over, so you'd be able to have Conflicto as a Kinetics controller and a
villain.
And Star Knight is an Energy/Energy Blaster, with Flight, Fitness, Fighting
and Energy Mastery pools. (He might have gravity control as an ASH power,
but in operation he's a blaster.)
-John
I've just finished the rough draft of ASH #100, Chapter One. It's about as long
as a regular issue. :) The current plan is a prologue (already written), three
chapters and an epilogue. I should be able to have it all done by the beginning
of August, especially since I'm not going to the summer professional conference
this year (yay, budget cuts).
