My name is Travis Flippen, my sister Lucinda and I attended 67/68 graduation
class of 70'. Looking back, that is a loooonnnggg time ago, over 40 years ago.

at ASG from 72-78. Looking forward to Chatting with old and new

If I were a parent living in Guadalajara, I would totally send my
kids to ASFG (if I could afford it that is!!). Here's why:

1. Having the bi-cultural experience was AWESOME. I moved to Mexico
my last year of high school, which completely turned my comfortable
suburban life upside down and I couldn't be happier. The cultural
opportunities in Guadalajara are staggering, and ASFG is right in the
middle of everything. We also had amazing opportunities outside of
Guadlajara -- we went on school trips to Mexico City for the ASOMEX
soccer tournament, Monterrey for the basketball tournament, either
volleyball or track went to Querretaro, and Model U.N. would go to
New York. We have wonderful memories from those trips!

2. GREAT teachers. Marc Fogel from Pittsburg, constantly fueled on
coffee and idealism. Dr. Calvin Young, who went from stuffy
university professor to laid-back Mexican in less than a year and
made us study REALLY hard essays about Balinese cockfighting.
Jean-Guy Brunet from the Canadian border, who taught us how to say
"Austrolopithicus boisei" and how to have a thoughtful, respectful
debate on creationism vs. evolution.  Javier "You've got a ZEE-ro"
Bustillos, who regaled his physics class with stories about how he
cheated his way through calculus and paid for it later. Barbara
Jones, a tiny lady from New York who loved the color purple, who
taught "special Spanish" to the new American kids, and took us to the
Teatro Degollado to see Don Juan Tenorio.  I wish I knew where they
all were now. Everyone came from such different backgrounds, which
was part of the fun. That I can still remember these people after 20
years should say something about the caliber of teachers we had.

Sorry the response is late-- looks like the spam filter got the
original post-- but hope you still find it helpful, and that you
decided to send your kid to ASFG after all.

Hi:

I'm planning to move from Boston to Guadalajara in the coming year,
and have a two-year old that will be ready to attend school by the
time we move.

Does any one participating in this group have children currently
attending ASF?  What's your experience being like with teachers,
facilities and extra curricular activities?

Most likely my son will do college in the U.S., but I want him to have
a bilingual k-12 education in Mexico.  Has any one had any problems
making the transition from Mexico to the U.S. to attend college?
