A very touchy story if you link it with your life ...

One fine day it came to know that The God is distributing apples to
humans in his place, at heaven. One small kid was so happy to receive
that news and it went with lot of enjoyment to heaven to get the apple
from The God.

There was a big queue standing to get apple from The God and the kid
also joined in that queue. While standing, the kid was fully excited
and thrilled for the fact that he is going to receive the apple, in
person from The God's hands. the kid's turn too came and the kid
showed its both the hands to receive apple. The God gave the apple but
unfortunately the tiny hands couldn't hold that big apple. Apple fell
down and got wasted in mud. The kid got so disappointed & starts
crying.

The ministers near The God informed that if the kid likes to have
another apple from The God again, then the kid has to again follow the
queue. Having waited for so long the kid didn't want to return earth
with empty hands. So the kid decided to wait again in the queue.

This time the queue has become even longer than the previous one.
While waiting in queue, the kid could see lot of people who returns
back with apple in hands and utmost satisfaction on their faces. The
kid was so much disappointed and thought why me alone didn't get the
apple in hand when all others were easily able to get it. What is the
sin I did that I alone should suffer like this. Now the kid was so
scared that it should not miss the apple again. Again its turn came
and The God gave the apple to the kid's hands and after giving the
apple The God spoke to the kid. "My dear child, last time after giving
you the apple only, I noticed the apple I gave to you was a rotten
apple and that's why I made that to fell down from your hands. Having
given you a rotten apple, I felt bad for you and I wanted to give you
the best apple in the farm and that time the best apple in the farm
was growing and that's why I made you to wait such a long time in the
queue. Here it is. Now the apple that you have in hand is 'The Best'
apple in the farm till to
date. Enjoy."

MORAL :
Sometimes it so happens, as even after we put our 100% dedication and
commitment things may get delayed or things may go wrong. Believe that
The God has something great for us and that's why this has happened.
Always say,

'Gratitude & patience is absolutely the best way to bring more in one's life'

Truly Amazing -

And each one of us can do this. The potential that we see in ourselves is just the tip of the iceberg; but most of us take pride in our existing skill sets and capabilities, not realsing that over 73 % of our capabilities are dormant .

Thats why Guruji has come up with such wonderful 'courses' that help us uncover and unravel our huge potential thats lying latent.

One such course is the DSN or the Dont Say No program that digs deep into the depths of your being, culling out the enormous potential waiting to be tapped. And among the several master DSN teachers is one special DIGGER who will literally excavate your inherent latent strengths and turn your life inside out -

and then people will forward emails describing your transformational projects !

Unearth your new self with Anand Rajendran's Dynamic DSN program - be there on the 10th December, evening - 4.48 pm ( yes every minute counts) at MRV School's Renovated Hall in Dwarka - sector 3. The transforation starts on 11th and a new you emerges on the 13th Dec.

Or call me on 9313009817 or Avantika on 9811295495 for directions to get there or more information.

Go on , give yourself this new year gift :-)

IT DOSENOT COST MUCH TO BE A BETTER SON OR A DAUGHTER ((((and responsible Citizen))))

I WAS teaching one day a leadership course for a large healthcare company
at the Oakland Convention Center.
There were about a thousand managers and union leaders in the room.
One women sitting near the front, was given a microphone and rose speak to
me and to the entire room .
It takes a lot of courage to speak up in front of thousands leaders-
including top executives-so I was curious to  hear what she was about to
say.

"I have read many of the things that you have written and have been to
your course a couple of times before," she said. "There is one thing that
you have always left out in your teaching that I believe you should add." I
leaned forward with interest to learn that what I have been leaving out for
all these years.

You always talk about the value of asking direct reports, 'How can I be a
better manager?'

Or asking co-workers,

How can I be a better team player?'

Or asking customers,'

How I can be a better supplier?'

And even asking partners or children,

How can I be a better partner or better parent?'

The one thing that you have always left out that you should start teaching
everyone is to ask their parents, *'How I can be a better daughter or a
better son?'"* She went on with her personal story.

"After my last course with you, as you suggested, I asked my daughter, 'What can I do to be a better mother?' We had a wonderful discussion. Then I
thought, why not call my mother? I called and asked her, 'What can I do to
be a better daughter?'
"Mom said 'Now that Dad is dead, I live all alone. Every day I walk up
that long drive to go to the mailbox. Almost every day there is nothing in
it. This makes me feel very lonely. It would mean so much for me if you
could send me some cards; or pictures, or notes.'
"After our talk, I started sending cards, pictures and notes to my mother
so when she walked to the mailbox there would be something there. What did
that cost me? Nothing. What did that mean to my mom? Everything. Please
teach the people you meet to ask their parents,' what can I do to be a
better daughter or son?"
I still get tears in my eyes when I think about this women and her
mother, and I have included her story in almost every class I have conducted
for the past year.

This good advice for three reasons:

1) It is good for them. Even if they say," There is nothing you can do to be
a better son or daughter," they will be happy that you cared enough to ask.

2) It is good for you. The No.1 regret that children have when their parents
die:" why didn't they let them know how much I appreciated all that they did
for me?"

3) If you have children, asking your parent(s) how you can be a better child
is good for your children, too. You know that old person-your parent-whom
you're calling on the phone?

Very Good Article on Late sitting -
Email from the boss
cid:image001.jpg@01C9337A.287235D0
Mail sent by Narayana Murthy to all Infosys staff:

It's half past 8 in the office but the lights are still on...
PCs still running, coffee machines still buzzing...
And who's at work? Most of them ??? Take a closer look...

All or most specimens are ??
Something male species of the human race...

Look closer... again all or most of them are bachelors...

And why are they sitting late? Working hard? No way!!!
Any guesses???
Let's ask one of them...
Here's what he says... 'What's there 2 do after going home...Here we get to surf, AC, phone, food, coffee that is why I am working late...Importantly no bossssssss!!!!!!!!!!!'

This is the scene in most research centers and software companies and other off-shore offices.

Bachelors 'Passing-Time' during late hours in the office just bcoz they say they've nothing else to do...
Now what r the consequences...

'Working' (for the record only) late hours soon becomes part of the institute or company culture.

With bosses more than eager to provide support to those 'working' late in the form of taxi vouchers, food vouchers and of course good feedback, (oh, he's a hard worker... goes home only to change..!!).
They aren't helping things too...

To hell with bosses who don't understand the difference between 'sitting' late and 'working' late!!!

Very soon, the boss start expecting all employees to put in extra working hours.

So, My dear Bachelors let me tell you, life changes when u get married and start having a family... office is no longer a priority, family is... and
That's when the problem starts... b'coz u start having commitments at home too.

For your boss, the earlier 'hardworking' guy suddenly seems to become a 'early leaver' even if u leave an hour after regular time... after doing the same amount of work.

People leaving on time after doing their tasks for the day are labelled as work-shirkers...

Girls who thankfully always (its changing nowadays... though) leave on time are labelled as 'not up to it'. All the while, the bachelors pat their own backs and carry on 'working' not realizing that they r spoiling the work culture at their own place and never realize that they would have to regret at one point of time.

So what's the moral of the story??

* Very clear, LEAVE ON TIME!!!
* Never put in extra time ' unless really needed '
* Don't stay back unnecessarily and spoil your company work culture which will in turn cause inconvenience to you and your colleagues.

There are hundred other things to do in the evening..

Learn music...

Learn a foreign language...

Try a sport... TT, cricket.........

Importantly, get a girl friend or boy friend, take him/her around town...

* And for heaven's sake, net cafe rates have dropped to an all-time low (plus, no fire-walls) and try cooking for a change.

Take a tip from the Smirnoff ad: *'Life's calling, where are you??'*

Please pass on this message to all those colleagues and please do it before leaving time, don't stay back till midnight to forward this!!!

IT'S A TYPICAL INDIAN MENTALITY THAT WORKING FOR LONG HOURS MEANS VERY HARD WORKING & 100% COMMITMENT ETC.

PEOPLE WHO REGULARLY SIT LATE IN THE OFFICE DON'T KNOW TO MANAGE THEIR TIME. SIMPLE !

Regards,
NARAYAN MURTHY.

Sri Sri: There are three kinds of understanding: intellectual understanding, experiential understanding and existential realization.

Intellectual understanding says yes, agrees. Experiential understanding feels, is obvious. Existential realization is irrefutable. It becomes your very nature.

All you hear will simply remain a jumble of words if there is no experiential understanding, which is more on the feeling level. You can know intellectually you are hollow and empty but sitting and feeling you are hollow and empty is totally different.

When one gets an experience, one wants to understand more about it and becomes a seeker. If you have only intellectual understanding, you will think you know it all. Most theologians are in this category.

Existential realization contains within it both experiential and intellectual understanding. But it is beyond both of these.
Question:How do we get there?
Sri Sri : There is no way. When the fruit becomes ripe, it falls.
Question: What is doubt?
Sri Sri:It is one part of the mind challenging the other part of the mind.

Bonus Knowledge Flash:
Sri Sri: "You have to rejoice in the means. You have to love the means. Love is the goal; the means must also be lovable. Love springs when there is no effort, when all activities are shunned."

Written by a Pakistani journalist about India [a MUST READ for us, all True Indians]

Capital suggestion
By Dr. Farrukh Saleem: 12/9/2008

Here's what is happening in India:
The two Ambani brothers can buy 100% of every company listed on the Karachi Stock Exchange (KSE) and would still be left with $30 billion to spare.
The four richest Indians can buy up all goods and services produced over a year by 169 million Pakistanis and still be left with $60
billion to spare.
The four richest Indians are now richer than the forty ri chest Chinese.
In November 2008, Bombay Stock Exchange's benchmark Sensex flirted with 20,000 points.
As a consequence, Mukesh Ambani's Reliance Industries became a $100 billion company (the entire KSE is capitalized at $65 billion). Mukesh owns 48 percent of Reliance.
In November 2008, comes Neeta's birthday. Neeta turned forty-four. Look what she got from her husband as her birthday present:
A sixty-million dollar jet with a custom fitted master bedroom, bathroom with mood lighting, a sky bar, entertainment cabins,
satellite television, wireless communication and a separate cabin with game consoles. Neeta is Mukesh Ambani's wife, and Mukesh is not India 's richest but the second richest.
Mukesh is now building his new home, Residence Antillia (after a mythical, phantom island somewhere in the Atlantic Ocean). At a cost of $1 billion this would be the most expensive home on the face of the planet. At 173 meters tall Mukesh's new family residence, for a family of six, will be the equivalent of a 60-storeyed building. The first six floors are reserved for parking. The seventh floor is for car servicing and main tenance.. The eighth floor houses a mini-theatre. Then there's a health club, a gym and a swimming pool. Two floors are reserved for Ambani family's guests. Four floors above the guest floors are family floors all with a superb view of the Arabian Sea. On top of everything are three helipads. A staff of 600 is expected to care for the family and their family home.
In 2004, India became the 3rd most attractive foreign direct investment destination. Pakistan wasn't even in the top 25 countries.
In 2004, the United Nations, the representative body of 192 sovereign member states, had requested the Election Commission of India to assist the UN in the holding elections in Al Jumhuriyah al Iraqiyah and Dowlat-e Eslami-ye Afghanestan.
Why the Election Commission of India and not the Election Commission of Pakistan? After all, Islamabad is closer to Kabul than is Delhi.
Imagine,
·         12% of all American scientists are of Indian origin;
·         38% of doctors in America are Indian;
·         36% of NASA scientists are Indians;
·         34% of Microsoft employees are Indians; and
·         28% of IBM employees are Indians.

For the record:
·         Sabeer Bhatia created and founded Hotmail.
·         Sun Microsystems was founded by Vinod Khosla. The Intel
·         Pentium processor, that runs 90 percent of all computers, was fathered by Vinod Dham.
·         Rajiv Gupta co-invented Hewlett Packard's E-speak project.
Four out of ten Silicon Valley start-ups are run by Indians.
Bollywood produces 800 movies per year and six Indian ladies have won Miss Universe/Miss World titles over the past 10 years.
For the record: Azim Premji, the richest Muslim entrepreneur on the face of the planet, was born in Bombay and now lives in Bangalore.
India now has more than three dozen billionaires; Pakistan has none (not a single dollar billionaire).
The other amazing aspect is the rapid pace at which India is creating wealth.
In 2002, Dhirubhai Ambani, Mukesh and Anil Ambani's father, left his two sons a fortune worth $2.8 billion.
In 2007, their combined wealth stood at $94 billion.
On 29th October 2007, as a result of the stock market rally and the appreciation of the Indian rupee, Mukesh became the richest person in the world, with net worth climbing to US$63.2 billion (Bill Gates, the richest American, stands at around $56 billion).

Indians and Pakistanis have the same Y-chromosome haplogroup.
·         We have the same genetic sequence and the same genetic marker (namely: M124).
·         We have the same DNA molecule, the same DNA sequence.
·         Our culture, our traditions and our cuisine are all the same.
·         We watch the same movies and sing the same songs.
What is it that Indians have and we don't?
INDIANS ELECT THEIR LEADERS……!!!
And also to mention: They think of Construction of own nation, unlike other nations who are just concerned with destruction of others...
Simple answer why the Indian fare better than the Pakis':
They don't focus on religion and neither do they spend time and money in devising ways to kill their own and everyone else over religion.

… And … Don’t we feel prouder of being an INDIAN…?

Thank you

Subject: Shame on Indian Media

NEWS CHANNELS BROADCAST ONLY MONEY EARNING NEWS. THEY LIKE TO SHOW ONLY
NONESENCE NEWS CONT.... U CAN NOTICE.

FOLLOWING IS AN EXAMPLE.

Subject: Shame on Indian Media

A MUST READ.......

Dear Editors of HT, TOI, IndianExpress and TheHindu,NDTV, CNN-IBN, I got
the mail below from a friend of mine and following the unwritten code of
conduct, I am forwarding it to my friends but all efforts of people who
have been forwarding this mail would go waste if this mail doesn't reach
YOU......

Something to think about..!!

Shame on Indian Media??? Really what a shame...

By the time u guys read this news, the body of Major Manish Pitambare, who
was shot dead at Anantnag, would have been cremated with full military
honors.

On Tuesday, this news swept across all the news channels 'Sanjay Dutt
relieved by court'. 'Sirf Munna not a bhai' '13 saal ka vanvaas khatam'
'although found guilty for possession of armory, Sanjay can breath sigh of
relief as all the TADA charges against him are withdrawn' Then many
personalities like Salman Khan said 'He is a good person. We knew he will
come out clean'. Mr Big B said "Dutt's family and our family have
relations for years he's a good kid. He is like elder brother to
Abhishek". His sister Priya Dutt said "we can sleep well tonight. It's a
great relief"

In other news, Parliament was mad at Indian team for performing bad; Greg
Chappell said something; Shah Rukh Khan replaces Amitabh in KBC and other
such stuff. But most of the emphasis was given on Sanjay Dutt's "phoenix
like" comeback from the ashes of terrorist charges.

Surfing through the channels, one news on BBC startled me. It read "Hisbul
Mujahidin's most wanted terrorist 'Sohel Faisal' killed in A nantnag ,
India .. Indian Major leading the operation lost his life in the process.
Four others are injured.

It was past midnight , I started visiting the stupid Indian channels, but
Sanjay Dutt was still ruling. They were telling how Sanjay pleaded to the
court saying 'I'm the sole bread earner for my family', 'I have a daughter
who is studying in US' and so on. Then they showed how Sanjay was not
wearing his lucky blue shirt while he was hearing the verdict and also how
he went to every temple and prayed for the last few months. A suspect in
Mumbai bomb blasts, convicted under armory act...was being transformed
into a hero.

Sure Sanjay Dutt has a daughter; Sure he did not do any terrorist
activity. Possessing an AK47 is considered too elementary in terrorist
community and also one who possesses an AK47 has a right to possess a
pistol so that again is not such a big crime; Sure Sanjay Dutt went to all
the temples;
Sure he did a lot of Gandhigiri but then......... ..

Major Manish H Pitambare got the information from his sources about the
terrorists' whereabouts. Wasting no time he attacked the camp, killed
Hisbul Mujahidin's supremo and in the process lost his life to the bullets
fired from an AK47. He is survived by a wife and daughter (just like
Sanjay Dutt) who's only 18 months old.

Major Manish never said 'I have a daughter' before he took the decision to
attack the terrorists in the darkest of nights. He never thought about
having a family and he being the bread earner.

No news channel covered this since they were too busy hyping a former drug
addict, a suspect who's linked to bomb blasts which killed hundreds. Their
aim was to show how he defied the TADA charges and they were so successful
that his conviction in possession of armory had no meaning. They also
concluded that his parents in heaven must be happy and proud of him.

Parents of Major Manish are still living and they have to live rest of
their lives without their beloved son. His daughter won't ever see her
daddy again.
So guys, please forward this message around so that the media knows which
news to give importance, as it is a shame for us since this Army Major's
death news was given by a foreign TV channel!!!

If you believe in it, don't feel shy in forwarding it.

Jamiat softens stand on Vande Mataram

TIMES NEWS NETWORK

Muzaffarnagar: Six days after the Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind passed a resolution asking Muslims not to sing Vande Mataram on the grounds that it was “un-Islamic’’, the community’s clerics have reportedly softened their stand. The change of heart came after spiritual leader Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, visited Deoband on November 8, and met Jamiat leaders.
The issue was discussed at a onehour-long meeting, at which Maulana Margub Urrrehman of Darul Uloom, Darul Iftah in-charge Mufti Habibur Rehman, Mufti Ehsaan Qasmi and Usman Mansoorpuri of the Jamiat were present. At the end of it, the Ulema said they did not have any objection to the national song and had left it to the conscience of Muslims, who could decide for themselves whether they wanted to sing the song or not.
The fatwa department of Darul Uloom had issued an edict in 2006, describing the recitation of Vande Mataram as anti-Islamic. Darul
Uloom’s vice-chancellor Maulana Abdul Khalik Madrasi, however, said that a fatwa was not an order but a guiding principle. Sri Sri said he had told the Ulema that ‘Vande’ did not just mean puja or prayer but also thanks giving. “The first lines of Vande Mataram are not objectionable in any way,’’ he said, adding that the issue should not be given any more importance.

this is for each one of us in AOL whether teachers or volunteers...................

The Qualities of a Good Leader

To be a good leader means that you can inspire others to follow your example, willingly and cheerfully. A good leader will both inspire confidence and give a strong example of what we should aim for. These are the characteristics of a good leader.

Lead by example: If you wish your workforce to be hard working and diligent, it is important that you live up to your own ideals. There is a saying "I would never ask anybody to do something I wouldn't do myself". If your workforce see you arriving late and being unprofessional, it will make it much more difficult for them to follow your advice.

Humility: To lead we need to encourage others to act in a certain way. However, if we try to lead through our inflated ego people will not respect us. Rather than stressing your self, try to lead through stressing certain principles. People will be much more willing to follow a leader who embodies humility.

Appreciate your Co Workers: To be a good leader, you cannot underestimate the importance of offering gratitude to those who are trying hard to do the right thing. If people get appreciation then it will definitely encourage them to continue doing the right thing. At the same time, our appreciation should be sincere. We should not flatter but look for something good a person has done.

Have a Clear vision: Often to lead you will need to overcome the resistance to change. If people have been doing something for a long time then they have an instinctive aversion to implementing new ideas. To introduce a new way of doing things you have to have the confidence and belief in the new way. People will definitely pick up on the belief that you have in your own vision.

Avoid arguments: If people criticize your approach, often the best thing to do is not get involved in arguments. You can listen to their criticism politely and thank them for their concern, but often the best approach is just to focus on the new approach; look forward and don't feel the need to defend yourself. This gives your vision certain nobility.

Listen to others: A good leader should try to feel part of his team rather than superior, if you listen to others, they will definitely appreciate it. Often you may find that your workers have good ideas that you can incorporate. Even if they have unworkable ideas, it is still worth giving the impression you value their opinions, even if they are not used.

Create a positive atmosphere: If you try to lead through creating a climate of fear, or competition, you will undoubtedly create problems. If you can lead whilst maintaining a positive attitude, it will definitely bear fruits in the long run.

Don't take yourself too seriously: There is no harm in admitting you can be wrong, or making a joke at your own expense. People will appreciate a leader who can admit a mistake it is after all a human quality. But, just don't make a habit of it.

Regards
nita

True Story -- Worth Reading !!!

At the prodding of my friends, I am writing this story.

My name is Mildred Hondorf. I am a former elementary school music teacher from Des Moines , Iowa.

I've always supplemented my income by teaching piano lessons-something I've done for over 30 years. Over the years I found that children have many levels of musical ability. I've never had the pleasure of having a prodigy though I have taught some talented students.

However I've also had my share of what I call 'musically challenged' pupils. One such student was Robby. Robby was 11 years old when his mother (a single Mom) dropped him off for his first piano lesson.

I prefer that students (especially boys!) begin at an earlier age, which I explained to Robby.  But Robby said that it had always been his mother's dream to hear him play the piano. So I took him as a student.

Well, Robby began with his piano lessons and from the beginning I thought it was a hopeless endeavor. As much as Robby tried, he lacked the sense of tone and basic rhythm needed to excel. But he dutifully reviewed his scales and some elementary pieces that I require all my students to learn.

Over the months he tried and tried while I listened and cringed and tried to encourage him. At the end of each weekly lesson he'd always say, 'My mom's going to hear me play someday.' But it seemed hopeless. He just did not have any inborn ability.

I only knew his mother from a distance as she dropped Robby off or waited in her aged car to pick him up. She always waved and smiled but never stopped in.

Then one day Robby stopped coming to our lessons.

I thought about calling him but assumed because of his lack of ability, that he had decided to pursue something else. I also was glad that he stopped coming.. He was a bad advertisement for my teaching!

Several weeks later I mailed to the student's homes a flyer on the upcoming recital. To my surprise Robby (who received a flyer) asked me if he could be in the recital. I told him that the recital was for current pupils and because he had dropped out he really did not qualify. He said that his mother had been sick and unable to take him to piano lessons but he was still practicing. 'Miss Hondorf, I've just got to play!' he insisted.

I don't know what led me to allow him to play in the recital. Maybe it was his persistence or maybe it was something inside of me saying that it would be all right. The night for the recital came. The high school gymnasium was packed with parents, friends and relatives. I put Robby up last in the program before I was to come up and thank all the students and play a finishing piece. I thought that any damage he would do would come at the end of the program and I could always salvage his poor performance through my 'curtain closer.'

Well, the recital went off without a hitch. The students had been practicing and it showed. Then Robby came up on stage. His clothes were wrinkled and his hair looked like he'd run an eggbeater through it.

'Why didn't he dress up like the other students?' I thought. 'Why didn't his mother at least make him comb his hair for this special night?'

Robby pulled out the piano bench and he began. I was surprised when he announced that he had chosen Mozart's Concerto #21 in C Major. I was not prepared for what I heard next. His fingers were light on the keys, they even danced nimbly on the ivories. He went from pianissimo to fortissimo, from allegro to virtuoso. His suspended chords that Mozart demands were magnificent! Never had I heard Mozart played so well by people his age.

After six and a half minutes he ended in a grand crescendo and everyone was on their feet in wild applause.

Overcome and in tears I ran up on stage and put my arms around Robby in joy. 'I've never heard you play like that Robby! How'd you do it?'

Through the microphone Robby explained: 'Well Miss Hondorf . . . Remember I told you my Mom was sick? Well, actually she had cancer and passed away this morning And well . . She was born deaf so tonight was the first time she ever heard me play. I wanted to make it special.'

There wasn't a dry eye in the house that evening. As the people from Social Services led Robby from the stage to be placed into foster care, noticed that even their eyes were red and puffy and I thought to myself how much richer my life had been for taking Robby as my pupil.

No, I've never had a prodigy but that night I became a prodigy. . . Of Robby's. He was the teacher and I was the pupil for it is he that taught me the meaning of perseverance and love and believing in yourself and maybe even taking a chance in someone and you don't know why.

Robby was killed in the senseless bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City in April of 1995. And now, a footnote to the story.

The person who sent this to you believes that we can all make a difference. So many seemingly trivial interactions between two people present us with a choice: Do we act with compassion or do we pass up that opportunity and leave the world a bit colder in the process?

              You have two choices now:

              Antoine’s Story

Antoine is a super YES!+ teacher from Montreal… He was the guy who made me fall in love with Settlers of Cataan, one of the bestest board games i have ever played and knows more about the effects of diet choices and lifestyle choices on the environment that anyone else i know, but this post is not about all that…Maybe Antoine could do a series for our blog on that some other time…

He is right now teaching a course at a place called Iqualuit near the North Pole! He sent me a beautiful mail and i just had to share it with everyone…

              Jai Gurudeva!

              love

              bawa

Hi Swamiji (Swamiji is our very own Swami Sukhchaitanya ex Delhi, now settled and looking after Art of Living in Canada)

Thank you for your amazing guidance on the phone yesterday. Everything you told me about creating a family, doing Puja, being perceived as their spiritual guide…it felt nice but I had no idea how to make it happen! It turns out I didn’t have to do anything, it just all happened effortlessly and spontaneously on it’s own.

Yesterday night when we returned home after Day 1 of the course, I sat with my 2 hosts Erika age 24 and Patricia age 22. I told them I wanted them to become completely drug and alcohol free. Not just for these 6 days but for life. I spoke to them about what drugs had done to Tofoul, I spoke to them about how alcohol was destroying their community.

I said: “It’s better to put liquor in the garbage than to put garbage in your body. Are you ready to throw it away?”

The analogy was too good, Patricia got up, opened the fridge, and gave me her last beer can. She said:
“Here yo go, I don’t want this anymore.”

I asked her to bring me whatever pot she was smoking as well. She went to her room, brought a plate that had a pipe, rolling paper, and little lump of weed on it.

I turned over to Erica, the 24 year old with the 8 year old daughter. I said: “Your cousin did a brave thing. Is there a bad habit you want to surrender as well?”

She went to the kitchen under the sink and brought me 4 bottles of hard liquor. She was hugging the bottles with such attachment. She couldn’t let go of them. Then she finally gave me 3 of the 4 bottles. The last one, a bottle of Khalua, was her favorite. She said she wanted to keep that one for her birthday party. I looked at her and said: “In that case, keep them all, it’s no use.” Before I could hand her back her 3 bottles, she had kissed her Khalua goodbye and surrendered it to me.

I turned back to Erika and felt she was still hiding something. “You must have a bigger stash of weed somewhere?”

“No this is it.” she replied.

I lovingly told her “You can’t hide secrets from me. I’m here to take care of you!”

She went back to her room and brought back a large Ziploc bag filled with weed. She looked a little embarrassed as she was reveling her addiction.

She held on to it saying: “This is worth 250$. I can’t throw it away, I already paid for it. I’ll finish smoking this stash and then I promise I won’t buy any more after that”.

I told her “I don’t care about a measly 250$, I’ll give you 250$ if that’s want you’re concerned with. What I care about is your health and your future.”

Patricia and Erika started consulting each other in Inuktitut, their native language. They had come to a consensus: “We promise we won’t smoke it but we can’t give it to you. We rather get our money back by selling it on the streets.”

“What good is that? If you improve your health by destroying the health of others?”

They had to agree, and she handed her bag of weed over to me. I put everything on the kitchen table and said I wouldn’t flush it because it had to come from them. They were both staring at their addictions with such attachment as though they were about to surrender their new born babies. Their breathing was heavy, they were trembling at the thought of having to give it up for good. Erika was holding back some tears. “It’s ok to cry, we are family here” I told her.

She got up, took the liquor and flushed it down the kitchen sink. Her attachment to the poison was so strong, she was sniffing above the sink to imbibe herself with the smell of Bailies, Rhum and

Khalua one last time as it was going down the drain.

Patricia felt inspired by her cousin’s heroic move. She took her weed, we walked over to the toilet, and she emptied her stash and flushed it. The moment was so intense for them, they were trembling as I hugged them both.

I was proud of them. I told Erika it was the best thing she could have done for her and her daughter. She felt some truth in that, walked over to her room and brought a whole other crate of liquor she had ordered in by ship this summer. “This is all I have left” she said as she surrendered it. “There’s 500$ worth of alcohol in here.” she said. I was really proud of her.

“But what will I do on my birthday if I’m the only sober one?” she asked. I said “This year on your birthday you will not waste yourself. Your birthday should be an occasion to grow in wisdom. You will invite Art of Living people for your birthday and you will have a nice time.” I asked her cousin if she would support her and organize an Art of Living get together for her on her birthday. She agreed as Erica started pouring her alcohol down the drain more confidently this time, 3 bottles at a time. She felt so relieved.

Patricia noticed her cousin’s relief and walked back to her room to bring another bag, this time filled with magic mushrooms. This was her last stash. She flushed the mushrooms down the toilet saying: “Anyway this stuff is stupid, the only reason it makes you hallucinate is because it makes your brain bleed”. She was sure of herself this time.

Patricia said: “I feel so much lighter now. This house will be drug, cigarette and alcohol free from now on.

              I told them:
“I am proud of both of you. Had you sold this stuff on the streets, what kind of role model would you be? Today you took a stand and became a leader in you community. You are now role models and can inspire others to do the same.” Erica was so touched. It felt like all her life, people told her she was a loser. For the first time, someone was calling her a leader.

I told them the days ahead would be really hard because the temptation would come back to haunt them and they had to be strong and inspire each other to stay clean. I reassured them I would be there for them.

They really wanted to come out of it for good, but it was apparent that they were not confident they would have the strength to do it. You could tell they were going through a lot of emotions and were both quietly praying for help and strength not knowing where to find it.

So I took out a picture of Guruji, lit a candle, put an asan on the couch, sat on it, and invited them to come closer and sit with me. I told them: “Now, we will sing the most ancient prayer in the world. It brings strength, blessings, and protection to those who hear it.” Just by hearing that, they immediately felt confident that everything would be fine. I sang the Guru Puja as they sat at my feet holding hands with their eyes closed.

They had tears of gratitude. The moment was so serene, the whole atmosphere in the house had changed. Peace had dawned. They sat in silence for a long time afterwords as we meditated together.

I gave them each a blessing and sent them off to bed telling them to sleep with a blanket of grace.

When I arrived 2 days ago, the vibrations in the hose were so intense, I was akake for most of the first night. But last night, everything had shifted, there was finally an atmosphere of calm and peace in the house.

Guruji had done his magic once again, changing people’s lives forever!

Today there are 2 more people who walk on the planet with Guruji in their hearts.

              Jai Guru Dev.

              Dear ones,

Parenting can prove to be a very rewarding experience in one's life. We would all agree that children today, thanks to so much exposure to so much information from various sources, are very different from children a few years ago. Because of the changes in our lifestyles, values and human relations viz. working couples, nuclear families, media exposure, single parents etc. in the recent past, parenting has also become a challenge with parents having to deal with many issues related to children's behaviour. Often parents are found saying some of the following :

              a) He does not listen to me

              b) She does not eat properly at all

              c) My children are so hyperactive. It is so difficult to control them.

              d) They are glued to TV or computer games all the time

              e) They run away from studies.

              and many more.

Know Your Child is a two hour interactive seminar from the Art of Living which helps parents deal with several such issues by finding the root cause behind them. It gives them an insight into how children think and thus a better understanding of their behaviour. It points out small things that adults tend to overlook that may have a deep impact on children. Several hundred such workshops have been conducted benefiting many thousands of parents making their relationships with their children much more harmonious.

Looking forward to your participation in the KYC TTC.

              Jai Gurudev.
