Article Pract is teaming up with the Oakland Zoo in support of the
Animals Asia Foundation (AAF), knitting mittens for rescued moon bears.
Jill Robinson founded AAF after learning that moon bears in China were
being kept as living sources of bear bile, inhumane in itself, but
often under tremendously cruel conditions. At this date, over 500 bears
have been resuced, but they often need surgery to remove the tubing
from their organs. This is where the mittens come in: during surgery,
while under anesthesia, their extremities get cold and it is important
that the bears are kept as warm and comfortable as possible.
We've been asked to help by knitting giant mittens. Even one mitten is
a big help!
Jill will be speaking at the Oakland Zoo on May 21 and we'd like to be
able to show support by giving her as many mittens as possible. In
order to facilitate this, Article Pract will be hosting a bear-mitten knitting party on Wednesday May 14 at noon.
If you're able to leave work on a lunch break, or if you have a
flexible schedule, please consider joining us for some knitting fun.
Patterns will be provided and as an added incentive, anyone who brings
back a completed mitten before May 21 will get a 20% off coupon!
Find out more about Moon Bears and their plight, and meet Jill Robinson
on Wednesday, May 21 at 6:30 for the lecture entitled, "From Prison to
Paradise: Rescuing the Endangered Asian Moon Bear. Bring the family to
Bear Day at the Oakland Zoo on Saturday, May 17.
You can also find the pattern in the "Files" section of this, our
Article Pract Yahoo Group. Simply click on "Files" in the left hand
toolbar. There you'll find a pdf version of the pattern and a Word
version as well.

We're so pleased by the great response we've had to our posting of the upcoming
Habu
Trunk show and Yarn Event. This email explains how to sign up for a class or
event at our
store.
We require registration for all classes and events unless otherwise indicated.
To sign up,
simply call or come by the shop during business hours (we require payment in
full to
reserve a spot).
Our hours are:
Tues - Thurs 11am - 7pm
Fri - Sun 11am - 6pm
We do not do class registrations via email. We also cannot reserve a spot in a
class if you
leave us a voice mail. Make sure to speak with one of us directly to ensure your
spot.
As pertains to the Habu Trunk Show and Yarn event: we will have the garments on
display
both Friday and Saturday for viewing. They will be displayed throughout the
store and
there is no charge view them. The Yarn Events on Friday evening, Saturday
afternoon, and
Saturday evening are paid classes and therefore you must register to attend.
I hope that this email helps to clarify the process for those of you who were
unsure.
Due to the amount of emails we've received already, we anticipate that all three
Habu Yarn
Event classes will fill quickly. If you are interested in signing up, we
recommend doing so
at your earliest convenience. Again, you can reserve your space with a credit
