We would like to introduce you to www.treacletart.net an online art competition for schools worldwide (not just UK ), now starting its second competition. The archived competition # 1 can be accessed at our web address and the redesigned site is ready to accept new entries.
The site has been created by an art teacher and sixth form students from Christ the King School, Southport, UK in order to provide an online resource for digital art in schools- an area that is rapidly expanding in interest.
The competition involves students downloading a "starter image" and then manipulating it with any type of paint software they have. Their entries are then returned to us for exhibition in our gallery and we will then choose a winner around Christmas 2001. The winning entry receives a digital camera, supplied to us by our present sponsors, www.merseygrid.com .

and then answer questiosn according to the following paragraph...
In the course of my research I will attempt to investigate gender over the
span of the last 25-30 years as it effects/has effected the subject matter of
student artwork. I will limit the age group of the study by examining grades
3-6 only. How does boys' vs. girls' artwork currently differ in subject
matter and use of elements? How did it differ twenty five years ago? What
are the similarities of subject matter among girls then, and girls now? If
there are found changes, what are the determining factors? One way in which I
will go about researching this topic is to interview art educators who were
in the field twenty-five to thirty years ago, by developing a questionnaire.
The questionnaire will contain questions concerning subject matter as well as
teaching styles and methodologies.
thanks!
Dear Tracy,
I have taught art in the same grades, and school system for 26 years. I will

Girls still choose softer interpretations of themes, follow the rules, are (in general) more enthusiastic. How did it differ twenty five years ago? In 11 years, I don't see much of a change. Hope this helps...I taught K-8 for 9 years...now I am teaching 3-8.

it reinforces the fact that we, including myself need to look at the
following:
(which is another part of my paper).....
:Art educators can decrease the amount of gender biased artwork within their
classroom in several ways. Pop-culture should be looked at and analyzed
within the elementary art room in order for students to see gender
differences. Likewise, critiques should happen as frequently as possible
whereby girls and boys artwork is equally appreciated for their unique and
similar qualities. All children should be presented with critical thinking
activities that may enable them to surpass stereotypical ideas (Tuman,
Lecture 2001).

THIS IS NOT A VIRUS!!!! It is a file that is on almost all windows files -
it is one that allows you to save long file names, or something along this
line. Do a search and find out how to restore it. It is a really nasty
prank, since almost all windows users have this file and so think they have
this virus. Got me last year!

All,
As a rule, almost all notes via e-mail that warn of
viruses are hoaxes. You can read of legitimate viruses
in the newspapers and hear about them on TV. In
addition, you can visit the websites of major
protection companies and check it out. Be especially
wary of mail which tells you to remove files on your
computer. Of course, if you are lucky enough to have a
Macintosh, you don't have to worry about viruses too
much.

hi- this is tracy-- I am a grad student at teacehrcollege, columbia
university....I am once again doing some research-- last semester
I had asked some questions about gender....now
I was wondering if anyone out there is a late blooming artist, for example
someone who was not labeled an artist throughout their childhood, but maybe
got into it late hs or early college, without any prior practice or
experience....
if you fit this bill, or know anyone like this, let me know if you would be
interested in an email interview--
thanks-

Hello
I am a professional art educator who last year was approached to tutor my
framers' sixteen year old son. He had never picked up a piece of charcoal or
paint in his life, no lessons at school bar the obligatory stuff. Suddenly
that Christmas he was working with pastels like he had used them all his
life. Within six months and a few lessons from me he decided thatr eas what
he wants to do. He is now at art college also winning a youth art award.
