I'm guessing Judy is handling these off post, but since you're the second person to ask here, I will give you my perspective as a past contributor-
You create 5-8 half pages of art, based on a theme. Then you mail them to Judy- with return postage-, & she collects them to trade your art with other's art. Then, one day, you get a nice package in the mail of art:) Done.
Hope that helps,

Hello All,

Come help create a pageant of giant puppets in a remote village the Italian Alps!

The workshop covers many great techniques for art educators interested in community-based projects. The workshop fees pay for the festival but also help fund restoration of the Medieval stone structures in the village. More info and link below . . .

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
 2013 PAGEANT PUPPETRY WORKSHOP in the ITALIAN ALPS  (June 22–30)
Learn to create large-scale puppets and other visual elements for site-specific community pageant in close collaboration with local residents of a small hamlet in the Italian Alps. The project creates new works each year for the event, drawing on oral histories, local folklore, and regional agrarian rituals. Now celebrating its 10th Anniversary year, the festival and workshop are a much anticipated neo-tradition in the Maira Valley.  Beyond the basic workshop in pageant-building, the week includes Occitan step-dancing sessions, trips to nearby Medieval churches and cheese farms, bread-baking in the stone community oven, and other unpredictable wonders. The gourmet meals (3/day) are prepared with local "Slow Food" produce. Families/children welcome, no Italian language or puppetry experience required. You can learn more through the Processional Arts Workshop website @ http://www.superiorconcept.org/Morinesio
A new update on arts education from the National Endowment for the Arts
Subject: NEA funding guidelines, webinar, & content for arts education
The National Endowment for the Arts is pleased to announce
application guidelines are available in Arts Education
Art Works deadlines are March and August 2013
Applicants must be nonprofit, tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organizations; units of state or local government; or federally recognized tribal communities or tribes with at least three years of programming history in order to apply.
Grant Opportunity: Art Works
The NEA's Art Works grants support the creation of art that meets the highest standards of excellence, public engagement with diverse and excellent art, lifelong learning in the arts, and the strengthening of communities through the arts. Within these areas, innovative projects are strongly encouraged.
In Art Works: Arts Education the NEA supports projects that provide opportunities for youth, educators, and community leaders to gain in-depth arts education knowledge and skills in the arts.  We also are interested in projects that have significant potential to be shared and/or replicated, or are likely to lead to innovation in arts learning, instruction, and assessment.
Project types may include, but are not limited to:
  • Projects that include arts instruction for youth, generally between ages 5 and 18, that result in increased knowledge and skills in the arts.
·         Arts education professional development for teachers, teaching artists, and other education providers.
For both arts instruction and professional development, the NEA is particularly interested in:
  • Projects that include long-term, in-depth partnerships with other organizations to provide arts instruction to students.
  • Projects that explore ways to integrate arts learning in other content areas.
  • Projects that incorporate digital learning in the arts or media literacy in the arts.
  • Projects for youth that highlight the role arts learning plays in supporting livable communities.
  • Projects that explore new models for engaging youth with the arts, or that keep arts education providers abreast of the latest advances in both art forms and teaching practices.
For professional development projects, the NEA is particularly interested in projects that:
·         Build capacity of educators or community leaders to better understand arts education and their role.
·         Build capacity of educators and community leaders to use data to make decisions
·         Include training in how to design, implement and utilize high quality assessment of student learning in the arts.
Visit the Art Works: Arts Education guidelines  on our website for more information.
Webinar for potential Art Works applicants
The NEA will present a webinar for arts education applicants covering the basics of the Art Works funding category, how to apply to the NEA, discipline-specific details, and advice on preparing a strong application. There will be time set aside for a Q&A with the staff. The webinar will take place on February 12, 2013 from 1:00–2:00 PM EST. To join the webinar, go here.
A sample of recent arts education Art Works grants
·         To support Baltimore Speaks Out!, a media arts project where middle school students learn how to create and showcase their own videos. Housed in the public library, the project integrates technical skill building with an examination of issues important to youth, making for a creative learning environment in which youth investigate images, ideas, and issues in new ways. ($25,000).
·         To support the Chicago Arts Partnerships in Education's Arts Education Program Design Seminar, which will provide professional development for a network of teaching artists and classroom teachers to build skills in designing, implementing, and assessing arts-integrated teaching and learning ($78,000).
·         To support the Heart of Los Angeles's Youth Orchestra of Los Angeles, an after-school music program for students where professional artists will lead students in ensemble and orchestra rehearsals, musicianship, and singing classes ($50,000).
·         To support the Native American Composer Apprentice Project at the Grand Canyon Chamber Music Festival in Grand Canyon, Arizona. Students from eight Navajo and Hopi Reservation schools and Salt River High School will study one-on-one with a composer-in-residence for up to four weeks and create original work that will be performed by the ETHEL and Catalyst string quartets. ($35,000)
·         To support core-curriculum photography courses for teens through the In-Sight Photography Project in Brattleboro, Vermont. Teaching artists will provide free photography during eight- to ten-week-long workshops offered in the fall, spring, and summer for a two year period. ($10,000)
Sorry guys. My computer was in the shop a few days and I see the group got two
spams while I was away. I've deleted the offending members and their posts in
the group.
Just a reminder that if you find that you've been removed from this list due to
spam coming from your account and it wasn't you who did it, just run a virus and
spyware check on your computer and change your Yahoo password. Once you do this,
reapply to the list. Make sure you tell me you took care of the problem when you
reapply.
Today I was notified by a member of two possible suspicious posts on the list. I
have examined them and they aren't spam. The reason why they look suspicious is
that they only include a link and nothing more. When you post links, make sure
you post information about what the link goes to. Spammers typically will post
only a link or a link with a few words.
I know the TAB list has gone to moderated posts because of spam. This ensures
that no spam gets on the list but means that posts are delayed by as much as up
to two days.
Hey Brandy - Just wanted to follow up with this contest.  I shared the details
with a group - and had one parent kind of freak out - she thought the styrofoam
pieces were littered in the ocean and she wrote me saying she was seriously
concerned (and to her credit - the contest website was not that clear in certain
parts - I guess).
Anyhow, this is really such a FUN art contest (and being a certified Padi diver
who yearns for the ocean right now- well I like it even more ).
But the science/art connection is just wonderful - with dozens of physics and
marine biology concepts to be tapped.  Like how humans cannot go more than 3 or
4 atmospheres (as 33 feet each) without a submarine. Also, as students create
their art - thinking of the final "shrunk down" version adds a new challenge
(just be sure to use styrofoam glue).
  And contrary to what the concerned parent thought - this IS eco-friendly and
has a recycling component as well.
Thanks again for sharing it!
~Mrs. Prior
PS
Here is an excerpt from a 2001 article about a deep-sea biology team that
lowered styro cups into the ocean - and brought reductions back us fun keepsakes
(so this has been going on for a while now)
"The other night, out in the Indian Ocean, the research team aboard the R/V
Knorr did what oceanographers invariably do when they're in deep water— they
lowered a bunch of Styrofoam cups over the side. In their search for hot springs
on the seafloor, the team had also been lowering more serious gear, of course,
such as Jason the deep-diving robot, or the water sampler to which they tied the
cups. But Styrofoam cups make great souvenirs: When you haul them back from the
deep, you know where they've been.
The cups and all the decorations you've drawn on them— sharks, erupting undersea
volcanoes, witty slogans ("My dad went to the bottom of the Indian Ocean, and
all I got was this lousy cup")— come back very, very small. Styrofoam heads from
a hat store would work even better than cups, but nobody on the Knorr had
bothered to bring any of those.
Art Education List members,
I have turned on the moderation settings for this group. While I was away for
the weekend I see two more spams were posted to the group. I really have no
tolerance for this.
I would like to take a poll of the members here to see if they want to keep the
posts moderated or go back to unmoderated posts and risk the spams. One way this
could work is if I make another person a moderator of the group to help approve
posts. This would speed up message approvals.
To take the poll, go to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/artjobs/polls
This poll will end on Sunday, February 10. The results will determine if the
list becomes moderated or unmoderated. Until then, the list is moderated.
Does anyone have any good suggestions for block printing paper that comes in a
variety of colors?  I have used Subi brand but I think that is too smooth
because the ink chips off and peels off the lower layers of ink when we print
multiple colors.  I came to the conclusion that I need paper with a little more
tooth but I have no idea what to get.  Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Kelli in NE
Recently I went to a local teacher's classroom.  I was so inspired by her
open-ended art center.  I have posted photos because I think she really shows
the diversity of materials we can use in art making.
List members,
This is a reminder that I'm taking a poll on whether to change the settings to a
moderated group. So far only 15 people have taken the poll. Why not take just a
minute to take the poll so I know I have a pretty good representation of the
groups' wishes?
Take the poll at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/artjobs/surveys?id=2767333
The deadline is the end of this week. Thanks for your time!
I've tried to take the quiz twice. It keeps sending me to a verify e-mail page
;(   I have no clue what I need to do to take the poll, but it's not sending to
one.
Because I set up this group with more secure settings, it is not letting me
create polls on this list group. Instead I have placed the poll on the sister
list group called Art Jobs. Apparently it is asking you to verify your e-mail
because you aren't a member of that page. When you get to the verify e-mail
page, you should click on the e-mail verification link or enter in your e-mail
address. I think that may make you a member of that page. If you don't wish to
become a member, simply leave the group after you vote.
Sorry for the confusion.
List members,
I just noticed I got an e-mail from someone outside the group and they are
asking to verify my e-mail. This person is not a list member so I am assuming
someone is trying to harvest e-mails. DO NOT ENTER YOUR ACCOUNT INFORMATION FROM
AN E-MAIL! Instead of following the link to verify your e-mail, go directly to
the list website at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/artjobs/
These spammers are getting very devious and probably are lacking in the ethics
and morality department.
List Members,
Because the poll is requiring people to join the group Art Jobs before voting on
the moderation of this group, some of you may not be taking the poll. Couple
that with the fact a spammer seems to be trying to trick members into entering
account information by sending e-mails to group members.
I have moved the poll to a new location that doesn't require you to join a
group. Simply go to http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/YPSLQL3 and enter your vote.
Please only vote once. The reason why I have to have a poll outside this group
is that I am unable to create polls in this group because of the more secure
settings. If you have already taken the poll in Art Jobs, you don't need to take
the poll again.
Sorry for any confusion this may have caused!
