We have had Yuvan Shankar Raja and G.V. Prakash indulge in promotional activities for their films; but it is seldom that we see the Oscar winner AR Rahman doing it — perhaps due to pressing commitments across the globe. The only exception he made was for Superstar Rajinikanth’s Endhiran — even then, he promoted the movie on his microblogging site Twitter.
Now the hot news is that the Mozart of Madras has appeared for the first time in a promo video — for the Bollywood film Ek Deewana Tha.
This is a remake of the Tamil blockbuster Vinnai Thaandi Varuvaayaa and Gautham Vasudev Menon has directed both the versions.
Sources say that the video has Rahman singing the track Kya Hai Mohabbat from the film. Gautham is reportedly working on a strategy to make the best use of the footage he shot recently.
When DC contacted Menon, he confirmed the news. “Yes, Rahman did appear in a promo song video for EDT.We have filmed ARR singing the song. It has come out well and I am planning to launch it soon,” he said. Sources add that Gautham will mix and match the footage with the song’s shots from the film. Ask him how he managed to convince the reclusive Rahman to face the camera, Menon says, “I didn’t have to convince him too much. Thankfully, he was very sporting.”
Yet another reason cited was that Rahman finds himself sharing a deep empathy with the Prateik Babbar — Amy Jackson romance in the movie.
