Lynn,

Any progress on using the radio and GPS data from a Byonics TT4 so
APRSIS32 will support seeing your own station move on the map?

What's wrong with this filter? -s/w -b/CW* t/m/W9JUN-10/1207 d/RS0ISS-4 m/80
s/+Sco/Sy/ o/EL-571205

I'm getting posts from world wide. I have yet to learn how to use some of these
filters correctly.

Negative. I've been really busy with my day job and trying to get loose
ends of the current development wrapped up so that this general release
could get out the door. Documentation still isn't as far along as I'd
have liked, but I just haven't had the time to spare and didn't want to
delay any longer.

I've got the TT4 support on the ToDo list and the RFPort/IGate/Digi
stuff is the next large development area I'll be opening, but it might
not actually happen for several more weeks based on 3 busy weeks of work
followed by 2 vacation weeks in Spain coming soon.

I don't see anything wrong with it, but you'll probably get more than
you bargained for.

-s/w - No Water Stations

-b/CW* - No stations starting with CW (typically, but not always, CWOP
stations)

t/m/W9JUN-10/1207 - All messages within 1,207km of W9JUN-10 - This can
be a lot of stations

d/RS0ISS-4 - Everything digipeated by the ISS - This will be quite wide
ranging, but not a lot of stations

m/80 - 80 km around your most recent beaconed position

s/+Sco/Sy/ - All stations using symbols of:
Primary
+ = Red Cross
S = Shuttle
c = No. CivDef
o = EOC
Secondary
S = Sat/Pacsat
y = Sky Warn

o/EL-571205 - A specific EchoLink object

> I'm getting posts from world wide. I have yet to learn how to use some of
these filters correctly.

It might help if you provided a specific station that you don't expect
to be seeing. Also, firenet.us seems to sometimes provide a burst of
packets that really don't match your filter to start with, but I haven't
nailed down the circumstances for that burst. It seems to happen
shortly after a firenet.us server restart.

Are you sure you're still connecting to the filtered port (14580) and
not a full feed (10152) in Configure / Ports / APRS-IS / Device?

Best thing to do is eliminate all of the terms, Clear / Clear Stations,
and add them back one at a time until you determine which is the
offending term.

So, I assume (dangerous) that is proper to create an area filter and that will

m/80 will get you a moving radius of 80km around your last beaconed
position. That will get you EVERY packet in that range.

If you want to do an explicit area filter as well, you can do that as
either a radius around a point or as a rectangle of lat/lons.

Remember that each term ADDs unless it starts with a minus (-). A hit
on ANY component will let a packet through, they're ORed together, not
ANDed.

Oh, one more thing. The m/80 is redundant as APRSISCE/32 provides an
automatic m/ filter based on Configure / General / Range. You don't
need to specify your own. See also

the m/80 or t/m/1207 has no bearing on the symbols

We're working on that... everyone can help with that task. Ask
questions, and we'll work on trying to create some more documentation
as we go along. If you know how a feature of APRSISCE/32 works, write
up a page describing that feature, and post it. We can take that and
format it up for the Wiki.

Hey, if we can keep Lynn busy for 5 weeks, we might be able to catch
up with documentation. That work thing gets in the way for many of us.
I just did an 18 hour day on Sunday to meet a customer deadline, and
I'm still beat today!

I did however push some packets through the ISS on the way home. I was
bouncing packets off the space station while the Navy Seals were
bouncing bullets around Osama's house!

That is correct. Each term in the filter is ORed together. A hit on
any component will allow the packet to be delivered. There is no filter
that can get you a symbol selection within a range. If you're not on
mobile Internet, or on a low-powered platform, I'd just ignore the
"extra" stations if you want what the filter delivers.

But, then again, if you only want symbols in range of me, the symbol
filter is redundant. The m/nnnn filter gives you everything in that
range to start with and is, in many cases, the only filter you need
which is why APRSISCE/32 makes that component automatic.

To see what actual filter is being sent to the APRS-IS servers, look at
Enables / View Logs / Filter.

I need to know more about what you mean by "load the check points".
APRSISCE/32 does objects and now supports UI-View-style overlay (.POS)
files. Either of these can be used for the checkpoints. I'm assuming
the runner has a live tracker? Even if not, a radio'd position of the
runner can be manually updated by moving an object.

I'm cross-posting your question to the Yahoo group because I'm fairly
certain someone there has already supported an event like this with

Hi Guys

The Net14 Report for April 2011 has been uploaded to www.net14.org.uk . Select
the Net14 News button for news, maps and activity tables for 20m and 30m APRS.

The month produced some exceptional DX in particular with 9A3ADE-14 a /MM
station on a tanker en route to and from Japan. Direct contacts of over 10,000m
were made.

Lynn says "I consider Net14 a good match for some of the messaging features of
APRSISCE/32 and encourage all non-tracking APRS uses in the group."

Hi all

I had the following plea for help from my Cousin Alicia. I am always up for helping kids with school projects, and I am hoping some of you will be able to help out.

His project has to be done in 2 weeks time, so if you pass this on make sure that people that maybe not  bother after the end of this week 8th April 2011-05-03 I don’t  want it going viral and Nolan getting cards for the rest of his life.

(yes it’s happened)

I am sure the info on a QSL card will be fine and if enough of us respond we may get him interested in amateur radio.

I am not including the address on a public group for obvious reasons. Email g6uim2@... for it. You are welcome to privately pass the address along.

He would like as many cards as possible.

My Cousin lives in Arizona

Yes, DX reports going out over VHF and HF just fine.

I didn't update prior to using QRU ?WOTA this morning but I received objects
anyway. It's really useful when you have forgotten the LDW number.

I ordered the Roving Network Bluetooth Serial Adapter, RN-240M today. I am anxious to see how it works.

Learned something interesting today which I did not expect. I do not have the SIM card installed. Everything is planned for through RF and Wi-Fi when available. I installed ActiveSync from Microsoft. While the Tilt is connected to my desktop with no Wi-Fi, it gets data through my desktop network connection. How cool is that!? So I can test here CE and 32 at my desktop.

Now, the file structure is basically like my desktop, however, I moved APRSISCE and thought the XML etc would be in the same subdirectory as the program and the tiles in a sub-directory. It created new stuff in the root, Mobile Device.

I found that I actually have a uSD, 4GB, card and want to put everything there. What is the best way to get it running only off the uSD card?

Thanks!

Best regards,
Fred, N7FMH

PS. Now to find replacement front and back covers as these are beat up a bit.

APRSISCE6P.EXE can be placed anywhere on the device along with your OSMTiles tree.  However, the APRSISCE.XML and APRSISCE*.LOG files will always go to My Documents to allow for easy synchronization to your desktop via ActiveSync/Mobile Device Center.  There is a way to tell Windows Mobile to put My Documents in a different location, but you'll have to Google for those instructions.

I don't know if you've run the QuickGPS application yet to update the GPS almanac, but that may give you grief.  I've had nearly 100% success when using cellular Internet, but near 0% via the tethered connection or WiFi.  I've read that it's not necessary, but in my experience, if the GPS is flaking out and putting me in the ocean or is having trouble getting a fix, a QuickGPS update sets things in order quickly.

No, there is no plain text editor included with Windows Mobile.  That's why the instructions at http://aprsisce.wikidot.com/editing-xml-configuration talk about syncing the file back and forth (forth and back?).   I think Colin actually copies it to the SD card for editing, but I'm not sure.

Currently, I turned off all syncing since I don't know what havoc it might cause. Now maybe just the mobile files might be useful to sync.

I will now have to read the WIKI looking for mobile references.

Nice tool Julian! I just tried it and it at least opened the
APRSISCE.XML file, but to anyone that receives an error that the file is
too large, try re-starting APRSISCE and doing Clear / Accumulated /
Clear Telemetry. I run the u/APWW*/APWM* filter on my phone, so I
accumulate definitions for all APRSISCE/32 users which can be quite
extensive. After clearing them, Pocket Notepad had no issues loading
the configuration file.

If you have a problem especially with concatenated packets it’s handy to report the server.  That will show as the IP address as Lynn suggests below.

Lynn is writing work arounds, but it really is a bug/config problem with one or more APRS-IS servers and not Lynn’s software

I found a "notepad-like" application that you can download directly to your CE device, and install it from there.  It's called PocketNotepad by Tillanosoft (http://tillanosoft.com).  Oh, it looks like you also need a utility to unzip the file (I found ezyUnZIP by CNetX), but I'm sure there are other choices for both applications, or you can unzip it on your PC and then transfer it with ActiveSync.  "Google is your friend..."  A few years ago it was impossible to find any free software for WinCE devices, and now it's all over the place.  Look for Windows Mobile 5 and .CAB file format, and you'll have a pretty good chance it will work without needing a PC to install it.

Good luck,

Greg  KO6TH

I happen to know that Fred, N7FMH, just did a presentation to h is club
last night. Maybe he can offer suggestions or an outline?

The only thing I learned in the two APRS presentations I've done for
local clubs is that they really didn't want to know about APRSISCE/32,
but about APRS in general. And one club had been 80% exposed to packet
and were very disillusioned while the other club had no previous
packet/APRS exposure and were stuck on the "why". We did better at the
first than the second. I've discovered that I'm better at presenting
what the client can do rather than what you might want to do with the
client, but that should be understandable given how little I actually
get out into the field with it!
