I had all 4 files installed in a subdirectory.  I moved them to the same directory as the .exe and edited the .xml file to point to them, but I still get the shutdown.

I’m going to try it on one of my other installations…

Try downloading the files and unzipping them again.
It rarely happens, but sometimes the files get corrupted during download or unzipping.

Just a double check is all.
Another thing, revert back a rev in APRSISCE32 and get the dev version again. I had a version that kept crashing after a dev update and that corrected it.

Well, I deleted the entire line referencing the .shp file out of the.xml, restarted the .exe and re-added the ShapeFile (Configure\NWS Shapes) and all is well now.

I’ll see what happens on the other computer.

The steps i took was to just check the show me, the next thing i knew i was
getting the shapes for Australia, Like 10 of them. I did go in a few days ago
and deleted the Australia shape files from the xml file. I just checked and they
are still not there. weird.

Worked fine on my Win7 laptop. Still gotta try it on my 'real' APRSIS32
computer (the one that's not listen-only) that is running XP. Apparently,
it was just a glitch.

Well, I deleted the entire line referencing the .shp file out of the.xml,
restarted the .exe and re-added the ShapeFile (Configure\NWS Shapes) and all
is well now.

I’ll see what happens on the other computer.

I had all 4 files installed in a subdirectory.  I moved them to the same
directory as the .exe and edited the .xml file to point to them, but I still
get the shutdown.
I’m going to try it on one of my other installations…

I created a APRSIS32 sub-directory called NWS-SHP and put everything in it.
But it really could be anywhere and called anything if you wish.

Are you putting them into the same directory as the .exe file?  Mine are in

Hi Mike,
If you haven't, unzip all files into your folder. That fixed it for me. I
had only the SHP and DBF files but added the SHX and PRJ.
Best regards,
Fred

"Show Me" shuts down APSRISI32. When I restart it, the ALL is checked.

Also be aware that if you do a "show me", the NWS/All gets checked, be sure
to un-check when your done(if you want to).

Ok, I know I had that working but I just tried it here and it's not

It'll be a new option: Configure / NWS / Popup MultiTrack / Close on
Expire. I know it works (for now at least) because I've been watching
the alerts move across the south central US this afternoon.

Can you describe a definitive difference between the two? That works
both for now and into the foreseeable future? I'm struggling with that
question now.

Are you truly getting shapes for Australia, or just their NWS objects
without areas drawn around them? There's a difference. If you click on
one of the objects (do a View / NWS Objects to see just them), does it
have a line about "Multi:" towards the top? If not, it's a simple NWS
object, not a shape-file one.

Compare the line in the XML file and see what you might have manually
edited incorrectly. It's pretty easy to mess up a file name when typing
as opposed to letting the program re-configure it.

Of course, it may also not have actually been in "Program Files" but in
some Windows 7 shadow of "Program Files" regardless of where you think
you put it. I advice keeping things out of the Windows-protected
directories on Windows 7 and/or Vista.

Lynn (D) - KJ4ERJ - Author of APRSISCE for Windows Mobile and Win32

PS. The next version at least shouldn't exit if the files are not
accessible. You won't get shapes, but it shouldn't exit either.

I have just confirmed something I have thought for awhile, if a programmer
writes it I can break it.
Just broke my tracker and it's giving the programmer a headache.
I think RF got into it and corrupted things, first off it expected a
hardware switch, that did not exist but it refused to believe it did not
exist. And would not transmit without the switch.
But also it converts metres to feet, only it's now a factor of 10 off, so I
am at over 2000ft instead of 200ft.
Hoping for a sort for that soon.

So if you want to test software before release, I guarantee if it's
breakable I will break it. Lol

Actually, the Windows 7 computer is the one it worked flawlessly on. All my
ham radio software on that machine is installed in c:\ham radio\....

And, I did not originally manually add the path to the .xml file... but
that's how I got it to work.

I '*THINK* what is happened is that I twitched when the 2nd 'Open' dialog
box popped up and I ended up with 2 active files that were identical. Any
way you can keep that box from popping up again after you add the first
file?

(BTW... all 3 machines are purring along fine now. This one (Vista) is the
only one I had a problem with... almost certainly due to coffee jitters.)

Mike

Wow... I just did a 'New Office' - *ALL* and got blown away with alerts from
down-under. Lynn, is there a way to limit it to "ALL US" or "ALL AUS"?

I'm not really interested in playing with the 'shape files' but I would like
to keep my copy of APRSIS32 current. Where can I find this latest version? I
tried the about version update, but the latest I can update to is dated
1/27/11.

"Show Me" shuts down APSRISI32. When I restart it, the ALL is checked.

Best regards,
Fred

Also be aware that if you do a "show me", the NWS/All gets checked, be sure
to un-check when your done(if you want to).

I'm located about 100 miles south of ATL and have my filter set to m/50
b/KJ4ERJ*.

I just noticed that when I scroll all the way out to see the entire US,
there are a dozen or so stations just north of OKC that are showing up.

Am I missing something?

(BTW, does this group allow email attachments?

Disregard stupid suggestion about making the box close automatically… after loading 6 Shapefiles on to three computers, I’m GLAD it stays open!

See http://aprsisce.wikidot.com/development-version but please be aware
that running the bleeding edge is sometimes dangerous. I've been known
to break things so that it won't even run, but usually I get a fixed
version out shortly thereafter.

Also, please plan on keeping up with the postings in this group,
especially before accepting a new version from About.

If you're not comfortable renaming files and editing XML files, then
running the development is probably not a good idea.

I suspect you were panning around the map at some point and picked up a
few stray stations while centered "over there". They'll age out and
disappear unless you're still looking at their area.

I actually had it that way to start with but it was really a pain to add
multiple shape files, so I now loop until you hit cancel. There should
not be an issue with a single file being in there multiple times. I
suspect the redundancy will clear itself up on the next client restart,
but I'm not sure. The only thing that should happen if one is in there
twice is that the program will spend more time searching through files
than is absolutely necessary.

http://www.wa8lmf.net/aprs/AE5PL_Memo.htm occurred.

Besides, I've got something you're going to like in the upcoming
release, probably within the hour. Look for Configure/ NWS / NWS Entry
Servers...

Not stupid, just not used to an APRS client that "helps" us by adjusting
the filters on the fly. There's a change on the ToDo list that will
automatically add an area filter for whatever zoom level you're looking
at. If you zoom out to the world, you can expect to get a flood of
stations coming in. The Configure / General / Range will only set the
minimum that it will continue to do regardless of what you're looking
at. It'll be a user-selected option, which will default to OFF, so don't
worry too much.

Ok, so you think the Aussies have too much weather going on? And you
don't want to futz with Configure / NWS / NWS Notify Products to
suppress the notifications (it's fixed, by the way)? Well, now you can
enable *ALL*, but DISABLE Configure / NWS / NWS Entry Server /
WXSVR-AU. This won't only kill the notifications like NWS Products, but
won't even trigger the messages or area objects to even show up, unless,
of course, you're Eavesdropping the world in which case the messages
will still get picked up.

And if a single alert contains multiple areas, they're now combined into
a single object and (optionally) a single MultiTrack popup. This, in
conjunction with Configure / NWS / Popup MultiTrack / If New and Only
Areas can dramatically reduce the number of MultiTracks being consumed.
Oh, and if you check Configure / NWS / Popup MultiTrack / Close on
Expire, then the MultiTrack will close itself when the alert expires.
If you pan the window a bit, then the auto-close is disabled, but the
object will still go to a gray indicating Killed on expiration.

And finally, there's a Finger option on the NWS Object's popup menu for
those injected by AE5PL-WX (USA objects). This attempts to bring up the
full text of the alert.

I'd like to let this cook for a while, then release it to the general
population if you all don't find any issues with it!

BTW, there's active weather in the US set to expire at 01:45z. If you
upgrade quick, you might get to see it!

Lynn (D) - KJ4ERJ - Author of APRSISCE for Windows Mobile and Win32

  From the release notes:

Configure / NWS / Popup MultiTrack / Close On Expire if selected will
auto-close a MultiTrack window if the contained object is NONE
displayed, centered, and an expired NWS object.

If multiple areas are specified in a single NWS message, they are now
coalesced into a single object. This works well for US objects, but the
AUS alerts are coming from different offices, so they still don't get
much smaller.

Configure / NWS / NWS Entry Servers will now let you disable NWS
recognition by entry server. It knows about AE5PL-WX (USA) and WXSVR-AU
(Australia) as defaults but will learn others if anyone else begins
injecting NWS objects.

Fixed the Configure / NWS / Notify Products so that they actually show
whether they are disabled or not. It was working before, just not
making the symbol disappear.

Corrected behavior if a shapefile cannot be opened. APRSISCE/32 should
no longer exit in this situation.

Shape/DBF files are now probed and will be disabled if they are not both
accessible and seem to be what their name implies.

Weather objects that came from an NWS Entry Server that has a configured
finger server (AE5PL-WX only right now) will offer a "Finger" option on
the popup menu. Selecting this will attempt to retrieve and display the
full text of the NWS alert. This option is disabled if Enables /
Internet Access is not checked.
