Greetings,

In the past, packets like those following might have been received. How was
the symbol determined? Does it rely on the SSID for a symbol?

AE0SS-11>APRS:$GPRMC,151447,A,4034.5189,N,10424.4955,W,6.474,132.5,220406,10
.1,E*58
KC0YA-11>APRS:$GPRMC,145322,A,4034.3765,N,10410.8083,W,12.062,220.7,220406,9
.9,E*56

What does APRSISCE do?

I don't believe I have ever noticed a packet of this type in a long time.

Thanks!

Best regards,

Fred, N7FMH

Digi_ned does this and it's a very useful feature. I've seen a lot
of ISS passes that I would have otherwise missed because of it. It
hasn't been going for a while and, thank you for the reminder, it's
time to turn it on again.

While it's generally set up for users to query the current satellite
position, a small number may be configured for automatic position
posting.

(Note: Wiki fodder below, but I don't know exactly where.... Maybe a FAQ?)

APRSISCE/32 implements the aprs101.pdf-specified method of determining a
symbol. Namely (from Chapter 20):

> There are three methods of specifying an APRS symbol (display icon):
> • In the AX.25 Information field.
> • In the AX.25 Destination Address.
> • In the SSID of the AX.25 Source Address.
> The preferred method is to include the symbol in the Information field.
> However, where this is not possible (for example, in stand-alone trackers
> with no means of introducing the symbol into the

The first and preferred method is obvious: the packet explicitly tells
you the symbols.

The second is nearly as good in that it provides access to nearly all of
the symbols:

> • GPSxyz — for generic Destination addresses containing symbols.
> • GPSCnn or GPSEnn

The third would be used for your sample packets which use the completely
generic >APRS destination:

> SSID-Specified Icons in the AX.25 Source Address Field
> SSID Icon SSID Icon
> -0 [no icon] -8 Ship (power boat)
> -1 Ambulance -9 Car
> -2 Bus -10 Motorcycle

> -4 Bicycle -12 Jeep
> -5 Yacht -13 Recreational Vehicle
> -6 Helicopter -14 Truck
> -7 Small Aircraft -15 Van

In your case, AE0SS-11 would be given a balloon symbol. This is usually
the source of some pretty random symbols when the first (or only)
packet(s) received from a station are not posits. Such stations will
typically have a symbol based on their -SSID which will then change to
their intended symbol when a posit is (hopefully eventually) received
containing a symbol.

APRSISCE/32 trumps the remembered symbol based on priority across the
three symbol choices as well. This provides for the -SSID-implied symbol
to be finally overridden when a posit is received.

How much of the GPRMC sentence must be present?

Assuming the checksum is correct, can any of the fields, such as time, be
empty?

In APRSISCE/32 you can set the path for a bulletin. As long as the sender thinks (I know that is a stretch sometimes) then it should be relatively easy to keep bulletins mostly local.

In the case of a satellite pass, a single hop should be sufficient. It would keep the data within one hop of the originator. If it is a high DIGI, then no path is probably better. And, RFONLY or NOGATE could be added as well. Now no one outside of the immediate area is likely to receive the bulletin.

Hopefully every satellite AOS isn't announced since there are many satellites.

On another note, but similar, there is a way to get announcements now. It works as long as you remember to ask. And, it only takes sending a message.

There is a local mobile station that sends from his D700 or D710 (I don't remember which). I usually see his message and the response.

I sent a message to ISS with the content of "a" and I saw this dialog:

13:17:12> a (*2-13:17:12)
13:17:12< AOS 2h16m (2033z) SE^11

The "a" can be anything as long as it is something.

There response is based on the requester's location.

Fred, N7FMH

The packet has to pass parse. I'm not sure just what all elements might
be required in order to do that.

Are you planning to construct one of these manually? If so, why not
just do a normal APRS posit packet?

Or do you have a GPS that's going nuts and not fully fleshing out an
NMEA sentence?

Correct

> Such stations will typically have a symbol based on their -SSID...

Clarification:

That was not the intent of the spec. The SSID method is only used on
receipt of a "position" report that contains no symbol information such as
$GPRMC or other raw NMEA data. It should not be extended to the receipt
of just any "first" packet.

The intent of APRS on the receipt of just "any" packet prior to getting a
position report is to assign the station in the system (station list) with
the big question mark symbol and to give it a "vicinity" position using
the best available information. Such as 1 mile ambiguity around the first
digi in the path. If such a first digi is not obvious, then use the final
digi. Using this ? symbol gives instant recognition that this position
displayed is a "vicinity plot" pending receipt of any better position data
later.

In neither case should there be "random symbols"...

Yes, definitely a balloon. Though the AE0SS station must not chop the
NMEA data into two different packets as might appear here..

Hope that helps.

Nothing bad like a flaky GPS. I am just playing a bit. I can make a better packet, but for something quick and dirty, I can make a real simple packet and inject it into APRSIS32. Mainly, I saw the example and was wanting to try it.

Thanks!

Separate Symbol(Emergency) Mic-E status from EMERGENCY for individual
controllability. - Not sure if this is actually working right yet though.

Correct {UISSnn} truncation crash.

Support Busy Stations and Busy RF Stations windows sorted by traffic
rate (right click on APRS-IS OK pane).

Capability packets now go out over APRS-IS if enabled, regardless of
Beaconing on the APRS-IS port.

If a dump file is created due to internally detected programming
exception, APRSIS32 is automatically restarted. This allows for better
unattended IGate operations.

Correct "Move xxxx HERE" menu option to appear at the proper zoom levels.

Lynn,

A new release??? I thought the about button was broke. :) hi hi

Anyway. What is the possibility of of "old" files being auto deleted? Like old
EXE and log files. I looked in my Aprsisce directory and couldn't believe all
the old EXE files, and how big the log files were. I very rarely check for that
stuff, and sure others do the same. Just a little suggestion.

Thanks, Kevin

I've had to go back to old files before, especially with the Dev version.

Auto delete might be a little premature unless it's for the general release.

Just my opinion

I agree with Adam which is why I don't delete them.  I've had auto-deleter's do things before that I wish they hadn't.  One person's definition of "too old" can be dramatically different than another person's.  And it gets even worse when the computer's date gets scrogged (yes, we had a production system one time whose corporate-supplied time server leaped a decade ahead, our data purgers noticed and deleted ALL data from their system... ugly).

The .LOG files do rotate and then delete, so they're not (as much of) an issue provided that you restart the client every now and then.  I am considering an auto-rotate of *.LOGs every calendar day to account for those instances that rarely restart (like my own WebDT366-based Igate).

Deleteing the old dated .EXE and .XMLs will be left as an exercise to the user for the foreseeable future.

Subject: WCU Near Space Launch UPDATE

This is to confirm that WCU will launch the Catamount 5 Near Space Balloon tomorrow, Saturday, February 16, at 9:00AM EST.

The projected paths of the balloon are below and it is expected the balloon will land somewhere southwest of Winston Salem within Davie County. There are two tracks based on the altitude the balloon bursts.  The more westerly track represents a burst at 90,000 feet.  The more easterly impact represents a burst at 100,000 feet.

Based on the the latest tracking projections, a tracking vehicle will be placed on Sauratown Mountain.  Recovery crews from WCU will be following the balloon from the West.

We wish to thank everyone for there support of this project.

The next WCU near space balloon launch date has been set.
On February 16, 2013 WCU's Physics Dept. will be launching Catamount 5, a high altitude weather balloon research and development project, at the Jackson County Airport (35.317N, -83.209W) between 9-10am.  The payload consists of two white stirofoam boxes for the housing of amateur radio equipment, a camera, and scientific equipment to measure and record cosmic radiation and search for gamma radiation up to the stratosphere.  The payloads will be properly labeled with contact information.

A team of chase vehicles will follow the balloon, as coordinates will be uploaded to aprs.fi  and is expected to remain in flight for at least 90 minutes.  Trajectories show the flight path in a pie slice easterly direction.  The landing area is large and is made up with the point of the pie at the launch site at the  Jackson County Airport, with the other points near Columbia, SC and Danville, VA.  As the launch date gets closer, more accurate trajectories will be posted.

The balloon could land anywhere, and the team is equiped with supplies for proper retrieval.  The National Parks Service, NC Parks Service, SC Parks Service, VA Parks Service, NC Game and Wildlife and NC, SC, and VA State Police have been notified of the project and will be working with the recovery teams if the payload should land on their properties.  Directional anteannas will be used in locating the downed experiment and all safety precautions will be met.  Every effort will be made to contact the appropriate land owner/manager before searching begins.
The balloon is anticipated to carry two payloads to 100,000 feet and then burst.  A yellow and blue parachute will float the payloads back to earth. Below is the most recent projected track landing east of Monroe, NC, the payload containers, and parachute.  Earlier tracks have placed the payloads landing near Chapel Hill, NC, Laurinburg, NC, and Hickory,NC.
Again, we should have a much more definite trajectory path the day before and the day of launch.  Another email will be sent reflecting the latest information for this launch on February 15, 2013, the Friday before the launch.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at the number below.

Today I tried downloading an alternate set of tiles. Here's what I did:
Navigate to the folder where APRSIS32 is located.
Right click and select NEW-Folder. Name it something that will identify it for you. I am downloading Red Alert. I called the new folder "RedMap" because it'll fit nicely in the pull down menu we'll get to in a minute.

Now start APRSIS32; Goto CONFIGURE-MAP-TILESETS-NEW TILESET.
In the Tile Set-setup window, you need to give APRS32 the name of the folder to stash the new tiles in. That's the folder you created a couple of minutes ago (in my case, RedMap) Fill in the server and URL from the wiki, or else where, and you're good to go. (I can't believe this gave me so much trouble the first time.) Go to SCREEN-Tile Set. On the pull down, select your new tile set.
Now start zooming and panning to load maps.

Now, the Mr.Obvious part, with appologies to Bob n' Tom.
After you get your tile set window set up and you try to download maps, it helps to go to ENABLES- INTERNET ACCESS and click it ON. Dont ask how long it took me to figure that one out.

Let me know if this EDCA (Every Darn Click Almost) is worth the time to polish up and make it available for use in the wiki. Also, did I miss any steps?

Linking to habitat so UK balloon launches can be viewed via APRSIS32

Due to UK restrictions on Amateur radio in the Air being not allowed, most flights use RTTY on SSB in the 70cm band.

Would be great to view the flights in APRSIS32 and maybe even select a flight to be sent from Habitat to the APRS system, these flights don’t number many

Make sure you've configured a Simply(KISS) and not just a KISS port in APRSISCE/32 and lock the TNC into KISS mode.  The default <CloseCmd>s for a KISS port will take the TNC out of KISS, but the <OpenCmd>s won't put it back in.  The KISS port (which needs to be renamed) was designed for Kenwood APRS radio TNCs.

In the end, your XML file should have only the following pair of commands in your enabled port.

<OpenCmd>~!!</OpenCmd>
<CloseCmd>~!!</CloseCmd>

PS. I prefer to do these support conversations in the APRSISCE Yahoo group as my philosophy is that for every question someone asks, there's probably 10 (or more) lurkers interested in the answer.  You may also get an answer quicker as others may know what you need to do.

I get the "Missing Leading C0" error regardless of whether my TNC is in KISS or TERMINAL mode.  In KISS mode the log isn't showing any data except "KISS:Missing Leading C0[1]" when I power up the TNC.

Here is an excerpt from the log from my com port (TNC is TERMINAL mode).

Any help you can provide would be much appreciated!

Hello EveryBody,

I did do some programming on my soundddoppler.exe
program.

It can send the packet.txt now also through
the rs232 port or put it automaticly in the
windows clipboard.

Now it's very easy to get in in ctrl-p
and displayed in APRSIS32.

I found a VSPE program
and I found that I can get the doppler data
also through a vitual com port on APRSIS32

http://www.eterlogic.com

Free Virtual Serial Ports emulator (VSPE) 32bits

So make a pair of virtual connected comports

Let sounddoppler.exe send packet.txt through that comport

And create new Text port on APRSIS32.exe with no Xmit

And it works DF plots almost realtime plottet on APRSIS32.

The sounddoppler version 132 has a packet output through comport
or clipboard like:

PA3BNX>APDF01:;BNX091050*210910/5157.80N/00534.23E\000/000/167/839 %DF167°/9
0.50 Sec. SoundDoppler

And the cse/spd/hdg/nrq is according aprs1.01 specs now.

Every frame send through the comport has also a crlf at the end.

I miss an option in AprsIS32 for digipeating
from one RF port to an other RF port?

So the doppler objects can be send also over the RF port on a other band then
the band where
I am direction finding.

I also made a menu item in sounddoppler.exe to kill the last send df report.
Same packet frame the * replaced by a _

I noticed that APRSIS32.exe does gray the last DF report line
The grey lines do slowly grey out at some rate.

So thats very nice to delete older df reports.

I also saw that killed objects have no icon anymore in the scroller.

I would like to know if I can change the DF bearing line color in APRSIS32 some
where in the
aprsis32.xml file

New I managed to get APRIS32 working through TCPIP with my SoundDoppler

Just create a new port Type TCPIP

Fill the portnumber to the same as in my SoundDoppler F11 menu.

And it works.

The new version sounddoppler132All.zip

wil be soon dvailable on

http://www.pi4wag.nl/index.php/pseudo-doppler-radio-direction-finder

So happy experimenting.

Make sure that windows is connected to the GPS unit.

The go configure, ports, nmea. If you have not connected to a GPS unit before you will get 3 options Com, Bluetooth and tcp/ip

Select Bluetooth and then in the following dropdown menu select your GPS device.

Make sure GPS is enabled in the enables menu.

If you have had a previous GPS device connected, you will need to delete it, do that by selecting a blank entry in the drop down device part of the port config, then go back again. To configure it

You can only run one NMEA port, but you could run a KISS/NMEA port also  from the radio, not sure if anyone has tried that. And what effect that would have.

ANSRVR is down until the server has been rebooted it seems. Hopefully that will happen during the week.

I would happily run a backup system if Lynn’s software will run on my machine, for emergency uses such as this.

It seems that Lynn’s server has become sentient and goes down (or starts doing other things) When he is away, lets just hope that nobody sends up satellites named SkyNet (too late the UK Military did that)

For those in the APRSIS32Cafe my 22GB of UK videos are still available on the private Torrents, but Lynn’s web index is down as I guess is his seeding.

It used to be that I click on WHO-IS and it would flash the information up on the screen
just like address look-up.  To be honest with you, I totally dislike the messaging with
this program.  I like to pull up a list of all the messages and select from a list.

With APRSISCE one clicks on messages, then read message and a seemingly random message comes up on the screen.  I can't see a listing.  One assumes when they hit
the X in the right upper corner it deletes it.  I then have to start the whole "scroll-click"
routine all over to see the next random message.  Stupid.

When I clicked on WHO-IS in the past, a window came up with the info on the callsign
holder in that same fashion as the address lookup is now.  I don't know if this is a program
change or if I set a switch wrong so it doesn't display anymore.  I certainly don't want the answer to my inquiry to end up in the stupid message box that one can't navigate very well anyways.

It shows up as a message for me. Do you get a green box after clicking WHO-IS?
I left-clicked on a station and the second item from the bottom is the WHO-IS option.
I don't believe there is any switch you can click on to disable that.

Best regards,

Subject: [aprsisce] Lost WHO-IS?

Hi,

I set some switch wrong somewhere here.  I used to be able to click on an icon, hit
WHO-IS and the particulars of the callsign holder appeared on the screen just like
when I clicked on lookup address.  The lookup address option  still works.  What did
I do wrong?
