How do I create an internal IS-server port?
I would like to setup APRSIS32 as the IS-server on my local network with UI-View
and UISS connecting to and passing data through APRSIS32 to the real IS-servers.
I read from here:
http://aprsisce.wikidot.com/is-server-port
To select 'IS-server' from the drop down menu but I dont have that option I
have: KISS, AGW, KWD710(PKT), KWD710(APRS),FTM310v1.3, TEXT, and CWOP.
When I set a TEXT port and try to connect with UI-View I get a error message
saying something like server port was forcefully closed.

Does this mean I have to use the 710 in APRS mode? I prefer having APRSIS/32 be
in control.

If the client APRSISCE is in control, usually the Kenwood should be in
PAKET mode. When in APRS mode, the Kenwood is in control. I am not
sure what may be happening here. Maybe Lynn or others may have the
answer. Are U sure you edited the right XML file? I have seen mails
about the file extensions not showing and u maybe didn't get right file?

Good Luck.

The IS server port is currently only available in the development release

If you close the software and edit the XML file, restart the software the click the about menu

Instructions here

http://aprsisce.wikidot.com/doc:development-version

Keep in mind that development versions can sometimes have bugs, make a backup of what you have so you can go back to the general release if need be

Rather than cramming infinite map detail, consider emulating the D72 display.
With a 9 screen wide raster of data on each station and 100 station/objects
deep, it is trivial to navigate. Especially after doing either a time, distance
or callsign sort.

Navigating in a 9-by-N screen space where the data is presented in large font
and easy to read is trivial compared to zooming around on a stamp sized map.

I know it is retro, but it works, gives rapid access to good data and is easy to
read with old eyes and navigate with thumbs.

First, you need the development version in order to have the IS-Server type port available .  .  . .

However, I believe the code is all there and you can edit the XML file to create the port on teh "RELEASE VERSION" by:

<!--RFPort[#]-->
<RFPort Name="Callsign-SSID">

How do I create an internal IS-server port?
I would like to setup APRSIS32 as the IS-server on my local network with UI-View and UISS connecting to and passing data through APRSIS32 to the real IS-servers.
I read from here:
http://aprsisce.wikidot.com/is-server-port
To select 'IS-server' from the drop down menu but I dont have that option I have: KISS, AGW, KWD710(PKT), KWD710(APRS),FTM310v1.3, TEXT, and CWOP.
When I set a TEXT port and try to connect with UI-View I get a error message saying something like server port was forcefully closed.

The KWD710(Pkt) mode keeps the D710 in TNC mode. In this mode, the
UNPROTO xxxx VIA yyyy doesn't support transmitting used path elements
and therefore is unusable as a digipeater.

The easiest way to use a D710 as a digipeater is to put it into KISS
mode and let APRSISCE/32 take full control. The normal KISS type port
should do that, provided that you have the D710's TNC in Packet mode
before starting APRSISCE/32 or enabling the port.

Subject: RF based APRSis not showing TCP stations?
n0eq_qrp

Station n0eq-2 = APRSis running on a Windows XP machine,
MFJ 1270 TNC, 5w HT.
RF only, internet connection is NOT enabled or desired.

Display shows ONLY other RF based stations
such as n0eq-7 (RF based).
Does NOT show any TCP based stations such as
n0eq-10 nor any other TCP based stations (mine or anyone's).

If I ?PING? a TCP based station, that station then
returns it's posit and is displayed appropriately.

Is this normal? Or should I be able to see TCP based
stations that are being broadcast over RF via one of
several nearby TCP digis?

a) Digis don't transmit TCP stations, they only repeat what they've
heard, and they won't ever hear an RF station unless it's wrapped in a
3rd party wrapper..

b) IGates may or may not (normally not) gate APRS-IS-only (TCP) stations
to their local RF.

In your configuration, if you don't hear it on RF, you won't see it on
the screen. And I suspect you're not hearing the "missing" stations via
RF because it's really uncommon for IGates to gate -IS-only stations.

However, when a message is gated from the APRS-IS to an RF-based station
(like your's), a "courtesy posit" usually follows it showing where the
originating station is.. In your case, I suspect an ack or response to
your message brought along one of these posits causing it to show up on
your map.

Hmm, it just dawned on me that one could pick up a used phone like this and combine it with a small inexpensive KISS capable TNC (like one of the newer openTrackers) and a bluetooth serial adapter.  This setup could be added to an existing non-APRS mobile radio that has a packet port.

In my case it would replace both the GPS and the old Tiny-track II and would provide more functionality than a Yag Tracker at less cost.  I'm really only looking at an RF mobile enhancement, so I wouldn't need cell service or WIFI - just need bluetooth to serial to work.  Has anyone on the list done a connection like this to a radio that does not have a built in TNC?

Personally, the Tilt BT radio and the WiFi radio conflict on my device. Others have not experienced this that I am aware of. In theory, if the Tilt was connected to a TNC via BT and the internet via WiFi, it will make for a sweet IGate.

Since the "phone" would get re-purpose with a TNC/radio, I have no problem thinking about a hard wire between the phone and TNC and WiFi to a network. So...

Currently, I am looking at using the ExtUSB port for a wired RS232 port (for TNC) and WiFi for connecting to my network. I have read about success for those that have loaded Android on the Tilt but not WinMo. I suspect it will work but I need to build the cable. I will power the Tilt through the connector as well. This was using the standard rubber ducky.

It would appear you have only set up a WIDE1-1 Digi.
If you want to Digi other Paths you need to add coresponding DigiXform lines in the XML, for instance:

<DigiXform>WIDE2-1=WIDE2*</DigiXform>

if you want to Digi WIDE2-1 (and use up that remaining hop)
&

<DigiXform>WIDE2-2=WIDE2-1</DigiXform>

if you want to Digi WIDE2-2 (& leave a hop remaining)

I hope that makes sense, if not let us know & someone will try to explain it better.

For some of those you need to entrer some more digix lines i.e.

<DigiXform>WIDE2-1=WIDE2*</DigiXform>
<DigiXform>WIDE2-2=WIDE2-1</DigiXform>

If it says no digixform it means there is no matching digxform entry for the path.

That configuration will work for any RF-received packet whose first
unused path component is WIDE1-1.

The first unused path component in each of those packets is "GATE" which
a) is not a standard digipeater alias and b) does not have a <DigiXform>
rule in your configuration. NOT digipeated.

Those two packets have empty paths therefore there is NO unused path
component and NO digipeater will act on them.

ECHO is the first unused path component which is a standard alias for HF
digipeating and is not recommended for general use unless you're
tracking mobile on HF and may need the digipeat assistance. You have no
rule configured for responding to the ECHO alias.

Ditto everything above.

> What am I missing to get it to Digi??

You said that those lines came from the Digi(NOT) trace log. Is there
anything in your enabled Digi trace log? That's where you'll see the
ones that fired your <DigiXform> rule. You'd also see digipeated
packets in your Transmit event log being the packets you transmit whose
source call is not your own.

I use 500MW but I figure it’s cold in space.

It’s mostly about the antenna and not the power, my problem is high gain colinears I have, that put everything out horizontally

Going to push my luck further and trying 50mW when the next perfect pass is
happening.

FWIW: Have tried tens of times on 500mW but never got into ISS / or did not get
the reply but this morning I tried holding the HT with the rubber ducky antenna
pointing down to earth approx 45deg in front of me and facing the upcoming pass
of ISS.

Great fun,
Gerard

Looks to Digi when any hops left except for GATE and ECHO, how do

First, you need to ask yourself if you SHOULD be digipeating on WIDE2-1
or WIDE2-2 and/or GATE and/or ECHO. In particular, I'd think that GATE
is not a request for a digipeat, but something else.

But, if you insist on doing so, the general form of a <DigiXform> is:

<DigiXform>unused=retransmit</DigiXform>

So, for GATE and ECHO it would be:

<DigiXform>GATE=GATE*</DigiXform>
<DigiXform>ECHO=ECHO*</DigiXform>

VE7AV-4>APND14,GATE,WIDE2-1:!R3;KL/Ix]& sT

will retransmit as

VE7AV-4>APND14,GATE*,WIDE2-1:!R3;KL/Ix]& sT

and

W6OTH>APZ114,ECHO,GATE,WIDE2-2:=3727.43N/12153.73W-....

will become

W6OTH>APZ114,ECHO*,GATE,WIDE2-2:=3727.43N/12153.73W-....

Probably not, at least I have abetter grasp of <DigiXform> now.
Thanks for all the help I have been enjoying your program.

Glad to do it. I guess according to Bob's recommendations, I really
should be defaulting to the following <DigiXform> set.

<DigiXform>TEMP1-1=TEMP1*</DigiXform>
<DigiXform>TEMP2-2=TEMP2-1</DigiXform>
<DigiXform>TEMP2-1=TEMP2*</DigiXform>
<DigiXform>TEMP3-3=TEMP3-2</DigiXform>
<DigiXform>TEMP3-2=TEMP3-1</DigiXform>
<DigiXform>TEMP3-1=TEMP3*</DigiXform>
(and so forth....)

I'm also considering adding support for n-N in some sort of shorthand
form when I get into the RF port work after the upcoming general release.

Well, I kind of meant if the WiMo version could be run under such a program a
Wine.... I know there are people working on an "emulator" under Android. But not
sure if they have it working. I know there is know a working Android version
that works on my HTC HD2. But that meens switching from one to the other back
and forth. :( Oh, well. Time will only tell what I am going to have to do.

Thanks, Kevin

one can't use a stylus.

use a Stylus..... Hence my problem running Aprsisce on my HTC HD2. You have to
use BIG fingers to try and do everything. It is very hard. And have asked Lynn
to make the ZOOM in/out bigger so my finger can do it. My HTC HD2 has no stylus.
And very hard to use aprsisce. Even though it is Wimo 6.5.
