We will not be sailing today. Pick your reason: blizzard conditions,
high winds, dangerous driving conditions to get to the club, etc.

Look forward to seeing everyone on the water in 2010.

All -

Trying to get an idea of how many ICs we can expect this Saturday. The
current forecast for the weekend looks perfect for IC sailing,
temperatures well above freezing and sun.

Unfortunately Chris will be sailing in southern Maryland for the day.
And Paul let me know that he can not sail for a few weeks because of a
doctor's request. But if we can get 4 boats we can team race. Six
would be ideal. Currently have 3 boats on the lot ready to sail. Who
else will be there this weekend?

Might also be looking for RC if anyone would like to spend a day on the
water. But we need to finalize plans with the Jet14s.

Thank you for the introduction Ian!

Good Morning,

If you wouldn't mind, could you please send me an email if you
intend to sail this Saturday. Also, please feel free to contact me
with questions and concerns regarding IC sailing this season.

Additionally, if you do not intend to sail this winter and would be
interested in chartering or loaning your boat out for the season,
please contact me. We have some talented, but impoverished sailors
here in Annapolis who could bring something to our fleet under the
right circumstances.
The format for the season will mix fleet racing and team racing.
This will allow us to maintain season scores while improving our team
racing skills.

Hope to here from everyone soon!

Thanks,
Chris Brady

Annapolis IC Sailors -

I was recently forwarded an updated tuning guide for the new line of
North IC sails and have attached it to this email.

Enjoy -

All,

Benj created the RadIC06 tuning guide late last week -- it's not posted
on interclub.org yet or the North site, and I just realized that it
inadvertently wasn't circulated, so I'm attaching it here. Benj was
pretty quick in very light air last week at LYC with the rig raked all
the way forward to 19'3" (only trailed at one mark all day),
so apparently there is more room for IC experimentation after all these
years. Feel free to circulate to your fleets.

Best,
Peter

All -

It has been a busy fall and I apologize for a lack of emails that many
expect to see from me this time of year. We have been making some minor
changes to the Annapolis fleet which I think everyone will be very
pleased with.

First change is that Chris Brady will be taking the reigns as fleet
captain. Chris sailed with us last year and bought IC 701 in the early
spring. In addition to sailing ICs Chris made a guest appearance in the
Snipe class this spring but is more often found in a 505. He has been
busy this off-season selling the IC fleet and you should see a few new
faces on the water. This is in addition to all of the usual suspects
who you would expect.

Below is the schedule that Chris has put together with the Jet fleet.

Saturday 11/21/09 Race Day #1
Saturday 12/05/09 Race Day #2
Saturday 12/12/09 Race Day #3
Saturday 12/19/09 Race Day #4
Saturday 01/09/10 Race Day #5
Saturday 01/23/10 Race Day #6

Sat. & Sun 01/30-1/31 IC Mid-Winters

Saturday 02/06/10 Race Day #7
Saturday 02/20/10 Race Day #8
Saturday 02/27/10 Race Day #9
Saturday 03/13/10 Race Day #10
Saturday 03/20/10 Race Day #11

IC National Events:
-New Years (Manhasset) 1/1/10-1/2/10
-Mid-Winters (SSA) 1/30-1/31
-Stanley Bell (NY) 3/13-3/14

I look forward to seeing you all on the water this season -

OK, let me try this again. Allan and Katie Terhune have offered to hold a fleet party sometime in November or December. What are the preferences: November or December? Thanksgiving is late his year, maybe Dec 5 or Dec 12 would be the best. Let me know, and we'll get a food list started.

Hey Everybody!

This is Christina-- sailing with Ian this weekend at the Nationals.  What Ian didn't mention is that today was the most incredible day of sailing ever!!  We had amazing wind, blue skies, a huge fleet, a beautiful yacht club, and a fantastic group of people!  It was about 70 degrees and sunny, so it was perfect weather for "frostbiting".  The wind was just enough for some righteous hiking-out and some pretty physical roll tacking.  Tactics were fun to call with the shifts and tides all coming into play.  Plus, a starting line with 54 Interclubs can definitely keep the pulse going!  By the end of the day, everyone was wiped out, but nobody wanted to leave the race course!!

This regatta makes us psyched to be Interclub sailors--wish you were here and hope more can make it next year!!

Best,
Christina

Scores have not been posted online yet and I just quickly looked at
them, so some of the details might be off. Danny Pletsch (who won the
midwinters) and Kari Sachs are leading the pack of 54 boats by a
pretty large margin after 8 races. Chris is doing very well and we
are further down on the score sheet but had one amazing race which
will make the weekend worth it.

Wind ranged from under 10 knots to a few legs with gusts over 15
knots. The shifts have been pretty significant at times but the race
committee did a great job of keeping the course square. Great party
on Saturday evening with Heineken as a sponsor. We are exhausted and
left before the kegs ran dry.

Tomorrow promises to be another tough day with the wind forecast of 10
to 15 knots and a harbor start at 0915.

I am on travel next week so it might take me a few days to get a report out.

Annapolis IC Sailors -

Two Annapolis IC boats are sailing in the Stanley Bell regatta at
Larchmont Yacht Club. Chris Brady sailing with local sailor Meredith
Killion and Christina Hammock is sailing with myself. Both boats
arrived safely in NY and are already to go. Unfortunately the weather
did not cooperate today. Racing was cancelled because of too much
wind.

Tomorrow, Sunday, there is a huge brunch planned to start the day.
Followed by racing in the afternoon. It is forecast to be a windy day
and hopefully we will be able to get in some racing.

Not sure of how many boats are registered exactly. Some of the locals
were bright enough to get there boats all rigged. But there are boats
from Rochester, Cape Cod, NJ and Boston.

This is a deal breaker for me. The team racing experience is what
attracted me to the fleet and I'm now hooked! I've had great fun with the
ICs, but if fleet racing is the plan in 2010, I'd rather sharpen my skills
by competing with more boats. I'm sorry for making it more complicated,
but is this really the final word on the matter?

Annapolis ICer's

In spite of the success we had this year, I've decided to move us back to
Sundays with the Lasers for next year. It's just easier. Now that we're
back up to 6 boats average, we can return to long-course fleet racing and
long start lines. More people also means we can split the RC duty with the
Lasers 50/50 again, so we'll need everyone to sign on to 4 duty days per
winter. I've bargained for a single boat-width slot on the floating docks
through which we will launch all IC's sequentially so that the Lasers can
rig on the docks and leave their sails up, flapping, while they get
dressed. I had to compromise on space in the club after sailing. he
Lasers now take up the entire upstairs, so we will convene for soup and
small talk in the men's locker room.

Thanks for a great year! Ian said he would be fleet captain again!

For me, the best part of your plan is the chance to spend more time in the Men's locker room!  Do you think you can get the Laser sailors to agree to leave more wet neoprene hiking shorts in the room!   That would totally seal the deal for me.

IC Sailors,

Lets sail this Saturday. The forecast has been favorable all week and now predicts winds at 7 to 15k and temperatures of 59 degrees and sunny skies. Totally balmy. Not even like frostbiting. I'm in. Arianne is in. I think Scott and Ian will be there.

Let us know if you can sail.

I'll bring soup and the real, real, real hot sauce at Scott's request. Perhaps Ian can ask our super RC volunteer John Anthony to keep us all honest.

Below is Scott Williams write up about IC racing this past weekend. -
Ian

The gloomy and gusty forecast proved false for Saturday, February 28th,
as we enjoyed 10 – 15 knots of breeze out of the Northeast. Our first
race was the most relaxing of our twelve total, since only four of the
six boats made it to the start. After that warm up, we formed two teams
of three and began the day’s set of short competitive team races.

Like most, I failed to keep track of the exact teams from race-to-race,
but this hardly mattered at day’s end. Typical to team racing, the mark
roundings were exciting and filled with the potential to collide, which
regularly happened especially with boat 694. Atypical to Paul, boat 508
did not capsize and I’m sure it had nothing to do with Jill taking a
much-needed break from the cold weather. Get well Jill and join us next
time! He, Arianne, and the rest of us managed well during the races.
JR and Laura were a consistent force to be reckoned with. They know how
to set a mark trap and many of us have begun learning their tricks.

Jesse and Thomas were fast as always and Ian and Jonathan teamed up, for
what I believe was first time this season, and made it look easy. Chris
and Sam were a steady boat during each race, always thinking of the best
move for the team and providing positive feedback and leadership. The
Jet RC was well managed, in spite of when we shanghaied Erika to crew
for me. Aubrey and I didn’t communicate well and I showed up without
crew. Erika was a good sport and did great.

As we gathered over Paul’s not so spicy, but very good bean soup, Jesse
was right when he said, “I think we’re getting better.” I agree and
believe we’ve discovered the formula for successful amateur team racing.
The most fun comes with forgetting set teams and mixing it up to ensure
unpredictability. It makes the results pointless and does away with
season trophies. In the end, however, uncertainty about the outcome
equals great racing!

Paul, you bring your volcano sauce and the bet is on! Next time I’ll
bring more beer and someone bring some chips or anything. It’s wrong
for those Jets to always have a better spread.

This year Larchmont is hosting both the Stanley Bell regatta and
Nationals in April. The regattas are 2 weeks apart, April 4/5 for the
Stanley Bell and 18/19 for the Nationals.

It is possible for you to leave your boat at Larchmont for the 2 weeks
between regattas.

A relatively large contingent of IC sailors from Larchmont sail in the
midwinters each year and it would be great if we could get a few
Annapolis boats to travel north.

Last year Christina sailed with me in the Nationals and had a great
time. It is her encouragement that is getting me to make the trip this
year. So don't take my word that it will be a great time, but speak
with Christina.

They are expecting good turn out for both regattas so it should be worth
the trip.

If you need any help with logistics to make the trip work feel free to
contact me.
