Greetings Minna-san!

Well, our next club
meeting is next weekend and I just wanted to ask a couple
of questions before Saturday rolls
around.

First off, what tapes do I owe people? I know I've
written down notes last meeting but I'm just covering all
the bases. If I owe you a tape (or tapes) tell me how
many and what's supposed to be on them.

Second,
what to bring. Last month I forgot to bring a tape of
a new show on Nickelodeon called "Invader Zim". It
is terribly funny and I can bring it if it would
please people.

I can also bring the newest season
of ReBoot for the benefit of those who don't have
Cartoon Network or just plain missed it.

And
lastly, a friend of mine taped a special installment of
Toonami's Midnight Run which featured all three Gorillaz
videos, a wonderfully dark clay-mated video and four
videos by Daft Punk all animated by Leiji Matsumoto
(Yamato/Star Blazers, Captain Harlock, Galaxy Express 999,
etc...).

<turns on Inner-Infomercial-Host>
All these and
more can be yours for the asking and viewing at the
paltry cost of your presence at Between Books this
coming Saturday!! ACT NOW!!!! OPERATORS ARE STANDING
BY!!!!!!!

So lemme know what you think. ;D
Till then, be
seeing you...
Brian & Malak

Brian,

If you would, definitely bring the
ReBoot episodes. I've missed a few due to ... events
beyond my control.

Here's another suggestion --
"Twice Upon A Time". Not anime, but a
possibility?

Adam

Brian-

I gave you a tape several meetings
ago (August, if memory serves) for the Giant Robo
series. It was a 6-hour tape (or 6 1/2, I don't remember
which is standard right now), if you need an 8, I can
get one of those. Also, please
bring Reboot, as I don't have Cartoon Network, and
loved the show when I was able to see it on ABC (or
wherever it was on until the evil suit-sharks dropped
it).
I should be there (with any luck) Saturday, so I'll
(finally) be able to see all y'all
again.

Thanxx,
Nalfien

Word has been handed down from on high. No
meeting in January.

If you're looking for someone
to blame for this, keep an eye (or even two) out for
the individual who broke into the store a couple
weeks back. He/She will have many many Dragonball Z
DVDs.

Now that I've posted this of course, Greg
will change his mind or something just to make me look
foolish. ;)

I think we should all form a vigilante group and
hunt down the perpetrators and present their heads to
Greg as a late Christmas present. Or at least get him
the DVDs back.

On a gladder (happier? Damn,
too much German today) note, I should be getting the
four ReBoot DVDs that ADV films has released and will
almost definitely have them by next meeting (whenever
that happens to be). Until then, have lots of
fun.

--NE

Personally (and Greg feels this way too) my only
worry about anyone from the store's... extracurricular
activities was just that: That they would hunt down the perp
and do something horrible to them. Which, to be
honest, isn't much of a worry. :)

Chris

Hey folks.

Real shame about next weekend's
meeting. But I have another idea, something that Greg and
others brought up last month.

If it's still
playing there, why don't we all get together somewhere,
pack as many people in as few cars as we can safely
manage and go to the Roxy to see Vampire Hunter D:
Bloodlust?

Having seen it four times across two states I can attest
to it not sucking the Big One!

I can call the
theater and see if it'll still be there after this
Friday. If so, I'll keep on posting till we have a
plan.

Chris, see if Greg would want to join us, 'kay? Also, if
this plan is going to fly could you let those who
aren't on this list know about it? Thanks.

I'll
be in touch as soon as I find out more.

Till

I have a mini-van (I can fit seven people, if
three are small), but I need to know where I'm going,
how far it is, etc. I have no clue whatsoever where
the Roxy is, or anything of the sort. If someone can
tell me that stuff, and as long as it's not too far, I
can take up to six other people.

--NE

Subject: The Whole Story
raesvelg
Send Email Send Email

For those who are "out of the loop" ;) the whole
story is this. Sometime during the night of Friday the
21st of December, someone broke into the store through
the fire door at the rear and made off with pretty
much all of the Dragonball Z DVDs, Cards, and the
money out of the register. This was our first serious
break-in ever, and the first one period at this location.
So, picking through the pieces, it was unknown on the
next day whether the person had in fact broken in
through the back door, or had instead hid inside the
store and left through it. The fire lock was damaged,
but whether or not it had been so before the break-in
was anyone's guess. Not knowing for sure, Greg asked
me to see what I could do to block of the inner door
(the door to the storage room where the fire door is,
the "Pocket Dimension"), so I dumped the table boards
used by the miniatures gamers in between the door and
the washer/dryer. In short, nothing without a fire
axe was coming though that door. Which proved
fortunate, since they tried again on Xmas night. After
busting the lock to the fire door (this time completely)
they found themselves stymied by the 5 sheets of wood
blocking them in. First, they apparently assumed that the
door was locked and tried to burn through it (metal
door) with what appears to have been a creme broulet
torch (no joke). After this failed, they beat on the
door for a while, and it moved just enough for them to
realize that it was just blocked not locked, so they
tried really pushing on it, to no avail. Failing that,
they tried prying the door open with a bit of metal
they found in the storage room, and that failed.
Having now given up all hope of entering the store, they
hopped the divider over into the video store and broke
in there, only to trigger their alarm system and
flee.

Then they apparently came back AGAIN a
day or two later and broke the door open AGAIN (this
time it had a rather jury rigged lock, a bar screwed
into the door which failed to hold) and were stopped
cold by the new lock on the inner door. After that I
went back and instituted a proper jury rigged lock
(metal bar through the handle, pinning it against the
doorframe. Nearly unbreakable) and now we have a new
firelock on that door so nobody is getting in through
there again.

Still, all things considered, Greg
has decided that before we restart any of the
after-hours activities of the store, that we should have a
security system installed. So next month should be on
(barring the intervention of Katsucon) but for right now
when the store closes, everyone is gone.

Getting to the Roxy was easier than I thought it
would be. It's just a short jaunt up Rt 76, then an
exit to go back over the river. Then it's through the
side streets a little to a parking lot that's just a
few block walking from the theater.

Look up
the Roxy via Mapquest or whatever and see for
yourself. The address is:

Roxy Theater
2023

it could be done. Thanks for the offer Dakamar. It

Carpooling would definitely be a good idea though. Finding parking in Philly

Gee Ryan...don't hold back. Tell us how you REALLY feel. ;D

Sadly, I didn't know anything new was coming up on the anime front in
regards to Cartoon Network. In other words...mee no tapee. Sorry
folks. I guess I'll have to hang my head in shame next Saturday when I
bring in my screener copy of Osamu Tezuka's Metropolis.

No, don't bother trying to spare my feelings. I'll take my punishment
like a man. I just hope I don't feel too despondent while I'm carrying
the tape nearer and nearer to the garbage disposal. I just might do
something rash. <sniff...sob>

YEAH RIGHT!!!! If anything happens to this copy of Metropolis I'll
likely throw myself into the garbage disposal! :D

I'll have aforementioned movie in hand next Saturday for your viewing
pleasure. Thank you...thank you...you may bow...thank you.

Oh yeah, I'll also have the last ReBoot 4.0 episode as well,
"Crouching Binome, Hidden Virus".

Till then, be seeing you...

A brief reminder for those of you who weren't there last month:
Unfortunately due to new rules and regulations, nobody goes in the
back room (behind the blue curtain), period.

Furthermore, and this is a big one, no backpacks. It's not that we
don't trust you. It's that the decision has been made not to trust
anyone in a dark room filled with merchandise. If you feel compelled
to bring a backpack, leave it at the counter with Greg.

On a related front, Greg asked me to mention this so I will: Whoever
it is that's taking manga and whatnot into the back for reading
material, would you PLEASE not do that? We're not a library, and we
don't like it when stuff walks its way into the back. And we REALLY
don't like it when you can't even be bothered to put it back where you
found it. Last month was the second or third time in a row that
that's happened, so I'm forced to lay down the law here. No more
books taken into the back.

And again, please, when people are watching the anime, scale back on
the talking. The worst offenders know who they are (and YOU know who
they are), so I'd like to see a little voluntary enforcement on that
issue.

Here ends my Gestapo-esque ranting. We now return to our regularly
scheduled fluff.

Worry not, Adam. My DVD player is up to the task AND is only 5 minutes
away. And if I forget to bring it, then it's not a problem to go back
and get it! ;D

"Did you bring it?"

"Oops, my bad. Hold on..."

10 minutes later...

"Here it is!"

"Yay!!"

...or something like that.

Also, I have a small treat for all those who didn't get to see "Bad
Anime, Bad!" at Otakon last year. I have a copy of the hilariously
abyssmal clips Neil Nadelman procured for his panel including, but not
limited to, "Magnos". This part of the meeting will only be for those
