And I would not be surprised if "careful breeding involving 'paper bag' tests" had absolutely nothing to do with Mrs. Holder's racial makeup.  Mrs. Holder could simply have one dark-skinned black parent and one light-skinned black parent.  It happens all the time with African Americans.  No "surprise" or news story there.  And even if both her parents are, or were, lighter-skinned blacks, so what of it?  That happens among African Americans too. So there's no news there either.  But "selective breeding"?  Come on, is he kidding?  Anyone...absolutely anyone could apply the same kind of logic to whites who marry other whites of the same color, or to blacks who marry other blacks of the same color.  And how about all those Asians who marry other Asians of the same color and phenoytype?  Any nation, race or ethnic group that has married among its own kind for long stretches of time, has practiced a form of "selective" breeding.  And absolutely no one does it better, and with more damn determination than white Americans have and still do.  Does Mr. Salier want to talk about that?  Anyway, what does any of this have to do with people coming together and having a dialogue during Black History Month?  I agree Vicki.  I fail to see what this has to do with Eric Holder's color, or the color of his wife, kids, mother, father, his father's homeland or Meryle Streep.  And I do think that Mrs. Holder looks anything like Meryle Streep; she looks more like Pearl Cleage.

GONG!  Wrong again.  Listen, as you know, I grew up in the black middle-class neighborhoods of Queens, NY.  That's my home and my old stomping ground.  And I grew up there around the same time frame as Eric Holder--give or take only a few years.  I can tell you that if you were growing up in any of those black middle-class neighborhoods of Queens, NY (St. Albans, Springfield Gardens, Laurelton, Hollis, Rochdale Village, or any part of South Jamaica), you were indeed exposed to African American culture, African-American people, African-American EVERYTHING.  It was just not possible to be so secluded from the rest of the community like that.  To do so would have been like living under a rock.  My parents knew and were darn good friends with West Indians from various places.  Ann and Glenn were good Jamaican friends of ours.  Mrs. Vilolet was another.   And you know that I've many times told you about Mommies friend who had the huge sunflowers in her backyard that I was fascinated with (as a small child).  Many of my parents friends were West Indian and there was NO way that they were out of touch with the African American people or culture around them.  I grew up in Springfield Gardens and we were always visiting friends we knew in the surrounding areas of St. Albans, Laurelton, Rochdale Village, Hollis Queens, Jamaica and Freeport/Hempstead, Long Island. That was our world.  And it was decidedly African American in culture.  And yea we had an Episcopal Church right around the corner from us too.  I used to go to Girl Scout meetings there with my black and white friends. I mean, good grief, Holder's father came to America when he was just a boy of 13 and Holder's mother is from New Jersey!  How could they "cocoon" their son Eric from African American culture, and why would they want to?  ADD their own culture to what he was exposed to in America, sure.  But "cocoon" him?  I seriously doubt it.  I don't know who would accept Salier's assumptions or suggestions about Eric Holder's West Indian "cocoon" upbringing, except maybe certain (and few) blacks from the inner-city ghetto who simply were completely unaware of, and out of touch with black life in the middle-class areas of Queens.  And frankly, we weren't THAT out of touch with brothers and sisters in the inner-city also.  I wish Sailer had written an article on "white" selective, "paper bag" breeding.  Now THAT would make convincing reading.

I think it's completely irrelevant and ridiculous to drag into the conversation on Eric Holder his ethnicity and his wife's complexion. How exactly does this makes a credible argument? Who cares how light or dark Holder's wife is? Who cares whether Holder is Caribbean in background? How do these trivial elements have to do with his performance as attorney general? It looks like certain people in the right these days, are just talking out of both sides of their butt.

  At one point, Halperin even suggests that MJ was coming on to him.  Now why would Michael want to do that?  Halperin read all this into a one-and-only-time meeting he had with Jackson, at, I think, a pizza parlor where Jackson was there also in the company of others.  Like I said, maybe it was more wishful thinking on Halperin's part.  What I can say about Halperin's book that I liked, is that it actually lead me to look up an article on one of the major personalities who had a very negative impact on Jackson's life: DA Tom Sneddon.  And this article which goes into some very sensible and reliable details, made reading Halperin's book well worth it, for me.

Another reason why I'm glad I read Halperin's book (which lead me to find Ishmael Reed's article), is that in Reed's article, he mentioned that in the last two years, HUNDREDS of black journalists have lost their jobs, which is why he contended, not at many articles about Jackson's death were written and published by black and Latino journalists.  Hmmmmmm.  Interesting.  Didn't know that.

Victoria, here is a CNN video I found, with Jasmine Guy speaking about here role in the drama Miss Evers' Boys ("Boys"[?]).  She was speaking earlier this year about the play and she explained briefly about what the Tuskegee Study involved.  It's very generous--for whoever decided to--for them to refer to it as a "study", when what it really amounted to was human experimentation, without the knowledge or consent of the "subjects", or the victims. So "study" is a generous way of putting it. And the original numbers of this heinous experiment was higher than 400.  It was over 600 men from a poor rural Southern background.  They were, like many victims of such atrocities, the more vulnerable, less cared about, minority members of society..much like Mengele's "Children" of whom he experimented on.  It's no wonder that the Nazis were inspired by America's eugenic policy.    If you watch the video, you'll see a photo of the real Eunice Rivers, who Guy is portraying in the drama.  And this woman saw nothing wrong with what they were doing?  Funny, she didn't look like the dumb type.   Link here or above for video.           --Joan

I don't rule out the possibility of a catastrophic event (or events) happening in the future, however, I could never say whether I believe it would take place in 2012, or not. I think it's really jumping the gun, so to speak, for anyone to state definitively that the world is going to 'end' in in only three years. I think that's ridiculous, quite frankly. But, the thought that cataclysmic events could happen in the future, the precise date we don't know, I would definitely not think impossible. The jellyfish situation is really unfortunate for the fishermen. I was stunned when I read how many jellyfish bites were occurring at Chesapeake Bay every year! Another interesting thing is that the event of "poleshifting" is actually very real and very possible.  I was surprised to learn that it is actually possible for the mantle of the earth to completely move and shift position, displacing the poles.  If that happened, who could survive that?  One thing is for sure, we'll all find out what will or will not happen in two years.  Something else about the movie 2012 which was surprisingly accurate, is that mantle displacement really can take place in a VERY short time, as depicted in the movie.  It can take place in only a matter of days or even hours.  I suppose that is possible because while the INNER core of the earth is solid, the OUTER core of the earth is liquid and the mantle is next to the outer core and closer to the surface of the earth.    Incredible, isn't it?

"SAPPHIRE" (I959 British/color)          The 1959 British crime thriller/mystery "SAPPHIRE", is one of the most provocative and uncompromising films of this kind.  The subject matter of this film is very racial and it's ending, very surprising.  The story in Sapphire centers around a murder investigation involving a young music student who's been found brutally stabbed to death. We can surmise from this that God did not make man as a marionette on strings, unable to resist the pulls and tugs of evil inclinations or temptations.  Likewise, we can of our own free will, choose to do what is good.  If we had no control at all over our actions (evil or good), then God would not be able to find fault with us OR hold us accountable for our deeds. And if that were the case, why would God be grieved at man?  That God was in fact, then grieved in His heart that He had made man, speaks volumes about man's free will and ability to make choices: man could choose to do what was good or what was evil.  Thus, we are not marionettes on strings.  We can choose.

Contrary to what some think, Michael Jackson was in pretty good health for a man his age.  He had no life-threatening diseases and no condition which would have prevented him from doing the London concert tour.  His most serious condition was a chronic inflamation of the lungs (what causes that[?]), that while it may have caused some shortness of breath, would not have prevented him from performing. Most importantly, according to the autopsy Michael had no sign of plaque buildup in his heart arteries. This little girl is smart!  She's only 1 and already knows (and identifies) shapes.  You can see this in the first video.  Her mom (in another video) said that she taught herself how to put her shoes on the right feet; no one showed her.  And looking at her, you can see she's sharp for her age.  In the second video, you see this cute little girl with her mom in the mirror and then a video, where she had an egg hunt and found all the eggs (with the help of dad).  Really smart and cute!   Video 1.)  learning time   Video 2.)  helicopters and airplanes   Video 3.)  easter egg hunt
