There has long been talk about an 'invisible universe' amongst people who enjoy the many alternatives to mainstream culture. Recent years have seen many facets of this loosely organized 'universe' casually intersect in discussion groups on the internet.

This group is an outgrowth of one such intersection. After an extended conversation about the urgent need for social and cultural changes in industrialized society, several individuals decided to meet electronically with the following mission:

To create greater awareness of alternative cultures and technologies and to bring them together, cohesively creating models of integrated sustainable living which promote economic, ecologic, and social justice.


We will accoplish this by evaluating how mainsteam culture supports itself, create a model that alternative culture can use to support itself, and finally to create an action plan for applying the model.

We have identified some specific aspects of alternative culture to focus on as a starting point:
1)Currency
2)Travel and Recreation
3)Education
4)Medicine
5)Insurance/ Financing
6)Food Sources
7)Communications
8)Building
9)Transportation
10)Entertainment
11)Media
12)Goods (clothing, paper, etc.)

Our priorities are 1)centralizing informational access to the above items; 2) where appropriate establishing functional networks of the
above; and 3)coordinating existing energy from grassroots movements into a force of positive change.
