This is an inclusive group for visual artists who alter and transform stuff: assemblagists, collagists, constructionists, sculptors, wearable art makers, altered book artists, art doll creators, mixed-media, found objects and images, emerging artists, enthusiasts, and anyone interested in altered art.
Altered Art as I define it includes but is not limited to: assemblage, found object sculpture jewelry, collage, mixed media, altered books, images, objects, etc.
Many of us are too busy for swaps, RR's, and ATCs, chit-chat and general BSing. But we do need a forum where we can come to discuss a problem we might be having with a project or when we aren't sure whether to use wire or construction grade adhesive for a specific application, for example.
Altered Artists Online is not governed by strict guidelines. Though topics of discussion may evolve into other areas of interest to members as they influence his/her art, we ask that an off topic thread which continues more than a few days, be moved to private e-mail and pursued there. Altered Artists Online doesn't discriminate between academically-trained or self-taught artists.
We create art because we breathe. It's not enough to just love creating art, altering and transforming objects into art. We can't help it. It's in our blood and in just about everything we do. Art invades our dreams and our waking moments. If we're not creating art, we're nearly always thinking about creating art.
If you know this fits you, send us a statement about yourself that includes your name and something about your art; with what medium you are most comfortable, your current project, where you want to take your art or any thing artsy like that. Your membership will be approved after we hear from you, pending list availablity. If you don't include a a brief statement about yourself as described above, you will not be approved to join the group.
