This is the new home of the Georgette Heyer listserv, the longest-running group dedicated to the works of Georgette Heyer and the study of the Regency period.

Eileen Kendall founded this group as Heyer-L or the Heyer list in 1996. Originally it was an off-shoot of a Darcy/Colin Firth appreciation group. Eileen established the basic structure and rules to which we adhere today.

We discuss one of Heyer's books every month. In addition, we have regular "challenges," quizzes on Heyer's works, currently hosted by our Challenger Patroness Debbie Jay.

As might be expected of a group dedicated to Georgette Heyer, the most basic rule of the list is that of politeness and propriety. We discuss the novels and the characters. We don't have flame wars and we avoid personal rudeness. Any issues should be referred to the patronesses, who are happy to assist.

In 1999, Anne Woodley became the Patroness of the Heyer list, joined later by Lisa May. In 2009, the difficult decision was made to move the group to its current site on Yahoo groups. The Almacks list had originally been a waiting list for the main Heyer list, where memberships were limited.

As the list transitions, we will be storing the old archives separately. However, Yahoo Groups is improving their search capabilities, and we are sure this will improve online searching through the group.
