Thanks for the link, John.  I was surprised at how inexpensive most of the 38 mm
Loki reloads were.  I never thought I would exceed a 29/180-240 system; now I
may need to eventually invest in a 38 mm motor mount-equipped flagship!

Off-topic:  things didn't look good on last night's forecast for Saturday - 60%
chance of rain?  Can you put in a good word to the Higher Power?

I had a message from David Bacheldur of Quickburst. He is
going to be coming this way in a few weeks and offered to bring any merchandise
anyone orders to save on shipping.

This includes Loki Reasearch motors and hardware, igniters, ematches, quickdip
etc.

A link to his site is here: http://www.quickbur st.net/index. htm

You will need the proper certification for the motor reloads but the igniters do
not need a LEUP.

Let me know if you want to order anything.

Morning, everyone, in checking the radar, it looks like it's been raining

Guys,

Does anyone have a G80 or G79 29mm motor with a short delay?  I checked Rebel
and HobbyTown, and the shortest delays they have are 7 sec.  I'll need one for
my demo launch (the Mercury Redstone) at the Cornfield Classic on Saturday.

Thanks,

Stu

Evening Stu, for G's, I have 2 G77-4R's and 1 G40-4W. I really only need of
the G's for Saturday (for the new G Force rocket I recently assembled), the
Arcas uses an F (though I could use a G in it as well - if I don't mind
walking). So, you can take your pick of the G's and I'll use what you
don't. I would imagine there will only be enough time for us to do a single
launch per rocket......

$18 will do (just under what I paid for it). I've attached the last order I
used to get some of these. Hobbylinc used to have them for about $17.50,
but like everything they bumped it up a buc. I've searched and searched and
I keep coming back to these guys. Of course, it means I have to wait until
I have enough to buy to make the shipping worthwhile. Although, with these
guys, it's actually pretty reasonable.... Considering.

Hello everyone.

I'm sorry to have been uncommunicative lately. I've had way too many deaths at
the church and I still have a few in the hospital. To keep things extra special,
my annual charge conference is tonight. Methodists reject purgatory but we had
to replace it with something; chrage conference paperwork.

The cornfield classic is this Saturday. I hope everyone can make it.

I can give rides to some who want them. Let me know and we can discuss pickup
times and locations.

The event starts at 9 am but there is a captain's meeting at 830. I am posting
the info I got right below:

====================================
Hi John,

That sounds wonderful. We plan to have the Captains meeting at 0830 with a
lunch start of 0900. Demo launches will be at the end of the events close to
noon. We will provide a continental breakfast and lunch for our judges. Like
last year, I would like you and at least one more Alamo Rocketeer to serve as
the official timers for the duration events as well as help check rockets for
safety prior to launch. Below is the current ROE participants will use.

Thanks again!

RULES FOR MODEL ROCKETRY COMPETITION

Safety: The Rocketry Meet will be conducted in accordance with the National
Association of Rocketry Safety Code. All team members, coaches and spectators
must follow the instructions of the Range Officer, Colonel Glenn Larsen. Failure
to do so will result in the team's disqualification from the rocket meet. We
will allow all teams a few minutes between each event to recover their rockets.
Please do not let team members to proceed until the range officer gives the okay
to recover your rockets.

Construction and Appearance: Before launching, all rockets will be given safety
check for sturdiness, proper construction, and fin alignment. If a rocket does
not meet safety standards, it will not be allowed to enter. Rockets must be
intact upon landing to qualify for judging. Each rocket must be a minimum of
12" (inches) in length with the exception of the Mosquito Rocket. All contest
rockets must be painted. Rockets may be of any color.

Recovery Systems: All rockets must have an operational recovery system. A
complete deployment of the parachute recovery system is where the parachute
comes completely out and fully opens. A complete deployment of the streamer
recovery system is where the entire streamer length comes out of the rocket
body. There will be no Helo and/or tumble recovery systems allowed in any
events.

Launch Pad: Each team must to bring a launch pad to the meet for their rockets.

Team Size: Each team will have two (2) entrants for each event.

Event/Launching Categories:

Altitude- A measurement of how high the rocket goes up into the air before it
starts it's decent. [Two (2) rockets will be launched in this category and the
average of the two rockets will be the score.] [No larger than a B-6-4 engine
can be used.]

Parachute Duration- The time that the Rocket stays in the air from time of
launch until the rocket touches down or can no longer be seen. [Two (2) rockets
will be Launched in this category and the average of the 2 rockets will be your
score.] [No larger than a B-6-4 engine can be used in this event.]

Streamer Duration- The time that the Rocket stays in the air from time of launch
until the rocket touches down or can no longer be seen. [Two (2) rockets will be
Launched in this category and the average of the 2 rockets will be your score.]
[No larger than a B-6-4 engine can be used in this event.]

Spot landing- In this event there will be three categories 30, 65, 100 meters.
Two (2) rockets will be launched for each distance. The average of the 2 rockets
will be your score. You may use any type of recovery system (streamer or
parachute.) During this event 6 teams will launch at the same time. Once all
teams have fired their rocket, one team member will go and stand by their team's
rocket which will then be measured. (No larger than an A-8-3 engine will be used
in this event.)

Best Rocket- Will be judged by how the rocket is designed, built, painted and
detailed scheme. An important criterion is how professional it looks. The rocket
does not have to be launched in any order categories. (Only 1 rocket in this
category per team)

Mosquito Drag Racing- All rockets will be launched at the same time. One team
member from each team will have 2 minutes to go and find their rocket. When the
whistle is blown, you may pick up your rocket and run back to the designated
finish line. This event will be judged for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place trophies.

Exhibition- This is the show off event. Teams may use one or two stage designs
with no larger than a C class engine, larger entries require prior approval due
to the proximity of a municipal airfield. The rocket must be recovered to be
scored. Random Judges from different schools or a distinguished honorary guest
may judge the best rocket. Awards will be handed out for 1st, 2nd; 3rd.

Misfires - If the make-up shot for the misfired rocket also misfires, the rocket
will be scored as zero (0) points for that event.

Launching Orders- Teams will draw a number from a hat, which will determine what
order they will launch.

Scoring- Trophies will be awarded for first, second, and third place for each
category.

Overall Championship Awards

15 points for each 1st place win in each category.

10 points for each 2nd place win in each category.

5 points for each 3rd place win in each category.

In the event of a tie in the over all awards competition, the winner will be
declared by the amount of trophies the team won.

Mosquito Drag racing will not be counted in the over all awards.

I'm planning on driving down myself if there's anyone else that needs a
ride.

So, paperwork is included in purgatory, but not exclusive to that alone,
right? I always thought taxes were in there too somehow. among other
things of course...

I agree with Ken, I like that. It's simple and easy to understand.... Yet
painful.

Thanks, John. Just to clarify, we need to be at Medina Valley High School
at 8:30, right, to flush out who was going to help out on what, etc.? Are
our launches part of the "exhibition"? Besides our rockets and supplies,
did we need to bring anything else with us?

Hello everyone.

I'm sorry to have been uncommunicative lately. I've had way too many deaths
at the church and I still have a few in the hospital. To keep things extra
special, my annual charge conference is tonight. Methodists reject purgatory

The cornfield classic is this Saturday. I hope everyone can make it.

I can give rides to some who want them. Let me know and we can discuss

Hi,

I will reply in a specific email in to you, Andrew, but am doing it here in
case others want information as well.

Medina Valley HS is on FM 471. To get there, take US 90 west from San Antonio
towards Castroville. 471 intersects 90 and you will want to turn left. It is a
hard left turn in that you are turning more than 90 degrees. The high school is
easily visible on the right about a mile down 471.

As an alternative, as you are just getting into Castroville, there will be some
farm fields on the left side of 90. A road cuts through one of these and has a
large sign over the top of it saying something like "Home of the Medina Valley
Panthers". The school should just be visible as you look down the road. If you
turn left here it is pretty much a straight shot to the school but I do not know
the name of the road. The first alternative is not much more out of the way.

When you get to the school, head for the practice football field. Tell anyone
who asks that you are with the Alamo Rocketeers conducting the launch
operations. The cornfields border the school but we fly from the football field.

As an aside, it looks like the message this is appended to is a very old one. I
think this will be my 3rd Cornflied Classic and i was not present for the first
one.

I hope this helps.

Yes, our launches are the exhibition. Bring your rockets, motors,
igniters and any specialized GSE you need. THe club racks will be
present and availible and I will have my rail there. I don't think you
have any exotic needs unless you're been holding out on us.

Bring any comfort items you may need.

Thanks, John. Just to clarify, we need to be at Medina Valley High
School
at 8:30, right, to flush out who was going to help out on what, etc.?
Are
our launches part of the "exhibition"? Besides our rockets and supplies,
did we need to bring anything else with us?

Hello everyone.

I'm sorry to have been uncommunicative lately. I've had way too many
deaths
at the church and I still have a few in the hospital. To keep things
extra
special, my annual charge conference is tonight. Methodists reject
purgatory
but we had to replace it with something; chrage conference paperwork.

The cornfield classic is this Saturday. I hope everyone can make it.

I can give rides to some who want them. Let me know and we can discuss
pickup times and locations.

The event starts at 9 am but there is a captain's meeting at 830. I am
posting the info I got right below:

====================================
Hi John,

That sounds wonderful. We plan to have the Captains meeting at 0830 with
a
lunch start of 0900. Demo launches will be at the end of the events
close to
noon. We will provide a continental breakfast and lunch for our judges.
Like
last year, I would like you and at least one more Alamo Rocketeer to
serve
as the official timers for the duration events as well as help check
rockets
for safety prior to launch. Below is the current ROE participants will
use.

Thanks again!

RULES FOR MODEL ROCKETRY COMPETITION

Safety: The Rocketry Meet will be conducted in accordance with the
National
Association of Rocketry Safety Code. All team members, coaches and
spectators must follow the instructions of the Range Officer, Colonel
Glenn
Larsen. Failure to do so will result in the team's disqualification from
the
rocket meet. We will allow all teams a few minutes between each event to
recover their rockets. Please do not let team members to proceed until
the
range officer gives the okay to recover your rockets.

Construction and Appearance: Before launching, all rockets will be given
safety check for sturdiness, proper construction, and fin alignment. If
a
rocket does not meet safety standards, it will not be allowed to enter.
Rockets must be intact upon landing to qualify for judging. Each rocket
must
be a minimum of 12" (inches) in length with the exception of the
Mosquito
Rocket. All contest rockets must be painted. Rockets may be of any
color.

Recovery Systems: All rockets must have an operational recovery system.
A
complete deployment of the parachute recovery system is where the
parachute
comes completely out and fully opens. A complete deployment of the
streamer
recovery system is where the entire streamer length comes out of the
rocket
body. There will be no Helo and/or tumble recovery systems allowed in
any
events.

Launch Pad: Each team must to bring a launch pad to the meet for their
rockets.

Team Size: Each team will have two (2) entrants for each event.

Event/Launching Categories:

Altitude- A measurement of how high the rocket goes up into the air
before
it starts it's decent. [Two (2) rockets will be launched in this
category
and the average of the two rockets will be the score.] [No larger than a
B-6-4 engine can be used.]

Parachute Duration- The time that the Rocket stays in the air from time
of
launch until the rocket touches down or can no longer be seen. [Two (2)
rockets will be Launched in this category and the average of the 2
rockets
will be your score.] [No larger than a B-6-4 engine can be used in this
event.]

Streamer Duration- The time that the Rocket stays in the air from time
of
launch until the rocket touches down or can no longer be seen. [Two (2)
rockets will be Launched in this category and the average of the 2
rockets
will be your score.] [No larger than a B-6-4 engine can be used in this
event.]

Spot landing- In this event there will be three categories 30, 65, 100
meters. Two (2) rockets will be launched for each distance. The average
of
the 2 rockets will be your score. You may use any type of recovery
system
(streamer or parachute.) During this event 6 teams will launch at the
same
time. Once all teams have fired their rocket, one team member will go
and
stand by their team's rocket which will then be measured. (No larger
than an
A-8-3 engine will be used in this event.)

Best Rocket- Will be judged by how the rocket is designed, built,
painted
and detailed scheme. An important criterion is how professional it
looks.
The rocket does not have to be launched in any order categories. (Only 1
rocket in this category per team)

Mosquito Drag Racing- All rockets will be launched at the same time. One
team member from each team will have 2 minutes to go and find their
rocket.
When the whistle is blown, you may pick up your rocket and run back to
the
designated finish line. This event will be judged for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd
place trophies.

Exhibition- This is the show off event. Teams may use one or two stage
designs with no larger than a C class engine, larger entries require
prior
approval due to the proximity of a municipal airfield. The rocket must
be
recovered to be scored. Random Judges from different schools or a
distinguished honorary guest may judge the best rocket. Awards will be
handed out for 1st, 2nd; 3rd.

Misfires - If the make-up shot for the misfired rocket also misfires,
the
rocket will be scored as zero (0) points for that event.

Launching Orders- Teams will draw a number from a hat, which will
determine
what order they will launch.

Scoring- Trophies will be awarded for first, second, and third place for
each category.

Overall Championship Awards

15 points for each 1st place win in each category.

10 points for each 2nd place win in each category.

5 points for each 3rd place win in each category.

In the event of a tie in the over all awards competition, the winner
will be
declared by the amount of trophies the team won.

Yet
painful.

Howdy all,

I have been in contact with the leader of a cub scout den who wants to come to
our November launch and observe with his kids. I told him that is fine. He
contacted me again today and said that the rest of the pack got wind of it and
they all want to come as a pack activity...all 73 plus parents.

I told him that would be fine but they would need to keep everyone, young and
old, under control and listen for safety announcemnts. Their pack wants to get
involved with rockets but some are worried about safety. They want to see it for
themselves.

Additionally, like last year, I will be unavailible for the 2nd Saturday of
December. I will be glad to pass the equipment to somebody else if you still
want to fly on that date. Alternatively, last year we agreed to get together on
the 1st Saturday. It seemed to work for others as well since it did not crowd
Christmas so much.

I am posting a poll on the matter. Please let me know your wishes.

Just kidding.
That many cars will constitute a parking problem, You're going to need to set up
stakes and ribbons for spectator parking and the spectator viewing line.
I hope you forewarn the landlord.

1st Saturday in Dec would be best for me as well.

As for November? We can always tell them that for Nov, the contest is the
most "unusual launch". That way, you set expectations accordingly. We
could also set up a temporary bunker, that would make for some wide open
eyes..... :)
Parking could be a problem with that many unless they park way over by where
the fireworks stand is..... On the flip side, we can tell them that price
for admission is to bring motors of our choosing.

Something I forgot:

While there will be a limited number of exhibition flights, theres nothing to
stop you from bringing rockets for static display. I'm planning on showing the
coolest looking ones, again, in the hope of generating interest.

If the timing works out, a few of them may even get to fly.
