Fire crews used calm winds on Thursday morning to get a jump on the Red Rock
fire burning Northwest of Reno,Nevada.Airtankers started bright and early on
Thursday as they buildt retardant lines around the South flanks of the fire.
Tanker #55 and S.E.A.T.S #422,#830 worked the fire until around 10:30 when
Tanker #07(P-2v) arrived from Redmond,Oregon to join the battle.Aero-Union P-3'S
Tanker #22,#23 also worked the fire on Thursday, all Tankers are loading out of
Reno/Stead airport. The Red Rock fire has burned 6,051 acres as of 16:30 PDT but
strong winds again have pushed the fire over retardant and containment lines. The
fire has burned over the top of Peterson Mountain and is nearing the homes in
the Rancho Haven area. The fire is burning over areas burned back in 1991 during
the Peterson Mountain Fire (8,000+ acres) but it has done nothing too slow the
fire down. The Trailer 1 Fire is burning just North of the Red Rock Fire and has
burned 1,198 acres as of 16:30 PDT,this fire also blew up on Thursday afternoon
as winds pushed it over containment lines.About five homes remain threatend on
this fire.Airtankers are being used between both fires so tracking them was
difficult at times. One of Aero-Union's P-3's returned to Chico for maintenance
issues(#23?)and may have gone on too battle the Mammoth Bar Park Fire. Tanker
#55 returned to Minden/Tahoe airport on Thursday as they are on day's off on
Friday.New starts in Northern California also pulled Tankers off of the Red Rock
Fire at times on Thursday. The largest fire the Mammoth Bar Park Fire broke out
at 14:30 PDT in Auburn,California as a result of fireworks. The fire has burned
450 acres and is about 40% contained.areas evacuated are Grizzly Range,The
American River Confluence and Lake Clementine Rec area.Five S-2's worked this
fire #82,#83(Columbia)#88,#89(Grass Valley) and one S-2 from Chico. All S-2's
loaded out of Grass Valley Tanker Base.
