Description

Welcome to the Virtual Town Hall where the members of the Munjoy Hill Community can express their vision for the future of the Marada Adams Community School.

A committee has been appointed by District 1 City Councilor Will Gorham ( 774-0768 or wgorham@portlandmaine.gov ) to recommend the future use of the school building & land. The transfer of the school to the City is expected to be final in December 2006 and a then a decision on the future use is expected to take place in January 2007.

The Munjoy Hill Neighborhood Organization

will conduct a community vision workshop
at it's quarterly meeting in early October 2006.

Order 46-06/07 Order Transferring Control of Adams School to City of (Tab 18) Portland Establishing the Adams School Property Reuse Committee – Co-Sponsored by Mayor James I. Cohen and Councilor William R. Gorham.

This Order returns control of the Adams School back to the City from the Portland School Department on December 31, 2006. Under State law the Council has to vote to accept control of the school.

Once the Council has accepted the transfer of control, and the effective date has been reached, the City Council can use the property or dispose of it in the same manner applicable to other municipally owned property.

To guide the Council in this decision about the future use or disposition of the school property, the Order sets up a committee that will make a recommendation to the Council on or before January 15, 2007, and appoints the following people to that committee to serve until the committee is disbanded.
