NORTHWEST IMMIGRANT RIGHTS PROJECT

JOB OPENING: EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR POSITION

Organizational Mission: Northwest Immigrant Rights Project ("NWIRP")
is committed to defending and advancing the legal rights and dignity
of low-income immigrants and refugees in Washington State by pursuing
and preserving their legal status through legal representation,
education, and advocacy.

Summary: NWIRP seeks an Executive Director to lead and provide vision
to a well-established and nationally respected immigration legal
services organization with an annual budget of approximately $2
million. With three offices in Washington State, and a staff of 30-35
employees, NWIRP is the largest non-profit legal organization in the
state dedicated to providing immigration-related legal services to
low-income immigrants and refugees. The organization is committed to
promoting access to justice, and effecting systemic change through
representation, advocacy, and community education. NWIRP seeks an
Executive Director who is committed to advancing the legal rights of
immigrants and refugees, and who has a strong background community
and public relations, personnel management, program development and
implementation, fiscal management, and fund development.

Essential Roles and Responsibilities:

•Provides leadership in strategic planning and implementation, and
implements and oversees programs and services that fulfill NWIRP's
mission;
•Maintains a strong working knowledge of significant policies, laws
and trends in immigration law;
•Serves as the public voice of NWIRP in the client, legal, and
political community, and in the media;
•Maintains and develops positive and meaningful relationships and
collaborations with other community-based groups and social and legal
service providers;
•Works with the Board Chair to plan Board meetings and an annual
Board and staff retreat;
•Participates in Board recruitment and training, and in Board
committees, and coordinates communication with Board members and the
organization;
•Provides oversight and leadership to a unionized staff, and
including re-negotiating union contract on a biannual basis, and
directly supervises administrative and management level staff;
•Provides direction and oversight for increasing and diversifying
financial base, through grant writing, cultivating and maintaining
major donors, and other expanded fundraising efforts; and
•Provides oversight and direction to Finance Director in developing
and monitoring the budget, in ensuring timely and accurate financial
reporting to the Board of Directors, and in maintaining the fiscal
and operational strength of NWIRP.


The successful Executive Director candidate will:

•Be passionate about the mission of NWIRP and have a demonstrated
commitment to providing legal services to low-income immigrants and
refugees;
•Have experience managing the fiscal operations of a multi-million
dollar budget;
•Have worked productively and collaboratively with a Board of
Directors;
•Be capable of maintaining a collegial climate that attracts and
motivates a diverse and top-notch staff;
•Have excellent oral and written skills;
•Have practiced immigration law for at least 5 years, or have
considerable comparable experience defending or advancing immigrant
rights; and
•Be successful and enthusiastic about fundraising.

The anticipated annual starting salary will range from $67,000 to
$75,000, depending on qualifications and experience, with a benefit
package that includes health and disability insurance.
