Hi, I'm Alicia and I'm a sophomore competing as a scholastic at Canyon
Del Oro in Tucson, Az. My other interestes beside Decathlon (There's
life beyond Decthlon?) include travel, reading, and just being lazy.
Unfortunatly, I am not completely addicted to Decathlon and find
absolutly no motivation with out it. But now we know the topics for
next year and I'm happy!
Im a former decathlete I competed in the LAUSD Manual Arts decathlon
team from 1999-2003 and won a total of seven medals with two years of
getting a perfect ten in the super quiz oral, and a perfect score in
the inerview. At this time Im a frst year student at St. Olaf
college, the number 4th best college in the nation in Biology. I am a
Pre-Med Biology Ed. Major, and minor in American Racial and
Muticultural Studies. Im here to tell you guys that from a former
decathlete to others anything is possible and it make me proud to
know that there are people out there searching towards academic
success, and with people like you we do not have to worry about the
future, its in good hands.
sincerely,
-Basil Vernon
firstly, nathanial is in fact at stanford. he did get into harvard,
though. additionally, in 2002 the science was mostly physics (light
and sound). the micro/dna stuff was 2001. and 2000 was
environmental stuff. so 2000, 2001, 2003, and 2004 focused on bio.
hmm... i think thats about it.
Jones graduated last year. He should be kickin' it in Cambridge. I
believe he is a freshman at Harvard now. I go to Kerman High. We
posted the, get this, lowest score in the history of Fresno County
AD this year.(I was the only decathlete who showed up, and we
forfeited ESsay Day.)

Yes, Steven Ho is crazy. Now that University got invited to state..
hmm.. I wonder if Nathaniel Jones is still in high school. That guy
got a 9000+ at state last year. That would be an interesting
matchup, Nathaniel and Stephen.
Anyways, crunk, what school do you go to?
I realize I'm kinda replying to my self, but oh well. The low bot
scores reminded me-- what do you think of these devalued medals!?
Ever since UHS left division two, the lowest scores ever get
medals. I had a bronze in music last year with a 660. This year my
score was terrible(600, no studying, got materials in late november,
etc) and I got a gold. I think that sucks...

My score was pretty bad too... 500. But it got me silver
(II/Honors.) How about that Steven Ho(UHS/Honors/DivI)!? He got a
900... Geez.
Meteorology seems neat... I'm crossing my fingers for something
physics related though...
Does your school use DemiDec? We never have. Actually, this year,
we didn't even get USAD materials until after November. But I'm
going to try to convince our admin. to buy the DemiDec package... I
know the big schools(UHS, Edison, Bullard, etc) use DemiDec, and I
think in DivII, Washington Union for sure does...

Haha. No. I'm not scared of you.(Parents=nagging) Don't worry. I
checked the score sheet to make sure you were real. I don't think
you're some thirty year old. I don't listen to 103.7 all that
much... Not any more anyways...

Mine too.. yet I still got first in my division/grade level
(II/Varsity) with a 440.
Im hoping for meteorology... that i could probably get a 600+
without studying. I mean, i was a weather dork when I was younger- I
watched the Weather Channel for the pure heck of it.
I was a strange one.
Sorry man. The reference to the radio show just went over my head.
I'm usually up too early to listen to morning shows. Otherwise, I
listen to NPR. Are you referring to 104.1, 103.7, or 95.7?

Lashing lobster tails. Eugh.. that reminds me of something on our
rock station's morning show... heh heh.. i hope thats not where you
got that expression from.
I realize that I'm responding to a pretty old thread here, but my
team(when it was still an actual team, really) did a pretty neat
fundraiser. We held a Wake-A-Thon, where each team member wouldn't
sleep for twenty-four hours and would get sponsors to pay for each
hour he/she spent awake. We basically hung out in our school caf.
for one night and did dumb stuff. I tried to do my next month's
math homework, but the Varsity kids wouldn't let me! Lol. We got
some money, though... I brought in $200 alone. It's an idea. A
little out there, but it's an idea.

How many years in a row has the science portion been a biology
subdivision? I know of at least three years back, right(dna stuff,
ocean, botany)? They need to get some physics up in this muth...
Because my botany score sucked. Lol.
Lashing lobster-tails! Haha. I want a 8000+, too. And I'm in Fres-
yes, as well.

I have to find a coach for my Decathlon team. It is hard. I'm in
Central Ca, where no one gives bleep about AD(Okay. Besides Edison,
UHS, and Bullard.)- if that helps you understand my situation any.
Are certain subject teachers just better at coaching AD than
others? We've usually had the English dept. run AD, but none of
them want to coach. Ugh... Sometimes I wish I went to school
somewhere else. Okay. I'm lying. I think that all the time...
How in the world do people get perfects on speech and interview? It
absolutely boggles my mind! I mean whoa! I can understand a high
900, but how do you get a PERFECT? Discuss amongst yourselves...
Im in California. Fresno County to be exact. At our recent
competition.. the local level (round 2 i believe), i scored a 4200-
something. Im going for 6000 next year, and have dreams of 8000+ for
my senior year.
Hello all Decathletes. My name's Brian, and I am a member of the
Central High AcaDec. Im currently in my sophomore year, and our
school is in Division II. Im a Varsity decathlete. My interests
include heavy metal, FFA, AcaDec, and scrabble. And I guess that's
it..
I am no longer in AcaDec, but the reason i suspect that they do
not post is because they are studying.

Well our weakness last year was weird. We had a strong leader for
each division. Our team's Honors, Scholastic, and Varsity (me) each
one the Golden Eagle. Our problem was our weaker second place guys.
We had drop offs of 800 for Honors, 700 for Scholastic and 1200 for
Varsity. Our team, Willoughby South, came in second by 55 points.
The winners, eastlake North, were much closer. They had an honors
drop off of 100, Scholastic-90, and Varsity-300. Our coach didnt
hold past 4'o clock ever though so studying was optional while North
studied long and hard under a mandatory regiment. I dont argue with
my coach's style though. We had tons of fun.
