Well I also have the same unanswered questions. What are the permanent solutions? It would seem to me that the rescues should be left standing at the end of the day, with as much support and cooperation as possible. Because, "where will the horses go? if we have no rescues. I donnot believe we should use scare tactics and threaten the recsue operators ;  rather than answer the questions. I support Paradise Stable Horse Rescue and I do it for the horses not for a charitable receipt. I also feel many other people have the same opinion. I strongly suggest that you change your tactics and be more of a support and team player , as we all are on the same team!. And all want to save the horse at  the end of the day.

To support what Shelley is saying here, the mandate of Canadian Horse
Defense Coalition is exactly as stated--we are striving to end the
practice of horse slaughter in Canada. Achieving such legislation
would automatically make breeders and horse keepers more accountable,
thus reducing the supply of excess horses over the long term. We are
seeking PERMANENT solutions. In the meantime, we applaud rescue
groups for their efforts and are in fact researching long-term
initiatives that may help rescues with their crucial work. CHDC is
neither a non-profit organization nor a charity, so our funds are
limited, and what donations we do receive are placed toward
strategies that will help end horse slaughter. Hence, investigative
and public awareness work such as the CBC documentary, No Country for
Horses, have been achieved. I would like to clarify that CHDC does
not have the resources to fund rescue organizations. You may wish to
read about the work of TRACS (The Responsible Animal Care Society,
www.tracs-bc. ca ), a B.C.-based charity that has an established
reputation as a hands-on rescue. TRACS has rescued and re-homed
hundreds of at-risk horses since 1994. As funds permit, TRACS has
also helped to pay for veterinary expenses and fencing projects at
rescue facilities so that more animals can be helped.
I encourage serious rescue organizations to seek non-profit status in
their province, and also to obtain charitable status under Revenue
Canada as TRACS has done. Many donors expect a tax deductible
receipt in return for their contributions, so this increases the
donor pool. The waiting list for charitable status appears to be at
least a year long, so the sooner applications are submitted, the
sooner this resource can be used.

Unfortuanately we do not have the funds to help save more horses at
all the rescues.  If we could we certainly would, but please
remember to end horse slaughter we must go up against the Ministry
of AG and the CFIA.  Who else is doing that?  The Natural Valley
Farms reports cost thousands of dollars.  This reaches people on a
global level, and that is how we know we are going to have the most
impact to help end this practice.  We encourage rescues and other
horse defenders to network through the coalition, however we do not
have property(s) to take in horses and we are not a "rescue group".

I know all about the horse auctions and the cruelty that goes on
there. I have saved many horses from meat sale Auctions. The point I
am making is.. we can educate  all we want (which is the mission
statement of Paradise Stable Horse Rescue)  However if we have no
rescues for the horses to go to, because they cannot get any funding
or support from any of the groups that are lobbying against horse
slaughter (example the coalition) , what do you suggest is  the next
step? I have talked to many rescues, the funds  that are being
colllected are not going towards the rescues, they are not receiving
money, feed doantions, vet bills, etc. On behalf of the rescues could
you please tell us where the donations are that the coalition has
received and how do the rescues get help. As you know Paradise Stable
Horse Rescue has contacted you in the past  asking for help to

HI JJ - where you are located?

So great to hear you're out there looking out for the horses at the auctions.  They are so vulnerable there.  I would like to see more people go to them to find a horse (and of course to the rescues).

Thanks....I will be attending a few auctions within the next week, and we usually try to buy 3-4 at every auction. When we bid against the killer buyers, they generally stop bidding now. But I can't buy them all :(

SOme horses have been selling for $35.00 ( 3 yr old horse)... The sad thing is that the auctions are always packed with people, but only a handful of people ever buy, other than the kill buyers.

Hi - here is a section from the June 08 Natural Valley Farms report detailing the Federal Health of Animals Act
and Section 142 regarding head room - it is vague and open for interpretation,
and that is where the loophole lies:

Federal Health of Animals Act

Part XII SICK, PREGNANT, AND UNFIT ANIMALS

138.(2) Subject to subsection (3), no person shall load or cause to be loaded on any railway car,

motor vehicle, aircraft or vessel and no one shall transport or cause to be transported an animal

(a)that by reason of infirmity, illness, injury, fatigue or any other cause cannot be transported without

undue suffering during the expected journey;

138.(2.1) For the purpose of paragraph (2)(a), a non-ambulatory animal is an animal that cannot be

transported without undue suffering during the expected journey.

138.(4) No railway company or motor carrier shall continue to transport an animal that is injured or

becomes ill or otherwise unfit for transport during a journey beyond the nearest suitable place at

which it can receive proper care and attention.

Part XII PROHIBITION OF OVERCROWDING

140.(1) No person shall load or cause to be loaded any animal in any railway car, motor vehicle,

aircraft, vessel, crate or container if, by so loading, that railway car, motor vehicle, aircraft, vessel,

crate or container is crowded to such an extent as to be likely to cause injury or undue suffering to

any animal therein.

140.(2) No person shall transport or cause to be transported any animal in any railway car, motor

vehicle, aircraft, vessel, crate or container that is crowded to such an extent as to be likely to cause

injury or undue suffering to any animal therein.

Part XII SEGREGATION

141.(4) Animals of the same species that are incompatible by nature shall be segregated during

transport.

141.(7) An equine shall, unless its hind feet are unshod, be segregated from all other equines during

transport.

142. No person shall transport or cause to be transported animals in a railway car, motor vehicle,

aircraft or vessel unless

(a)each animal is able to stand in its natural position without coming into contact with a deck or roof.

(b)provision is made for the drainage or absorption of urine from all decks or levels.

Hi,

We are located north of Yorkton, SK. Both my husband and I are certified farriers as well as trainers (John Lyons, Dorrance & Hunt styles) and we buy, rehab and eventually find a good home for the horses. We put a lot of hours and time into training and produce good solid trail horses, and are pretty picky with who gets them.

Every horse we have, except for 1, was on their way to death row:(

Not sure if you know, but one of the more well-known kill buyers from Winnipeg, has a buyer out here as well, at every sale. I have also heard that the Saskatoon Auction MArt has closed down, as the property was sold to the city, and they are probably not going to re-open. I know that there were 2 auction houses out there, but the other had intermittent auctions, so not sure if they will try to "fill the gap"..

Thanks again for the information.. will talk soon.

Hello Everyone,

Deanna Ramsay’s horse has been missing since August 29th from his paddock. We now fear that he has possibly been stolen as there is no trace of King.

We have searched from airplane and also surrounding lands by ATV…this is a heavily populated area, so someone must have seen him….there is a $2,000 reward offered for his return and this figure is growing as donations come in. Please take the time to view this short news clip about King’s disappearance and help to spread the word. I have also attached a poster that you can put up at your local feed/tack shops. If you are near any auction houses, please keep an eye out for him as well.

http://www.citynews.ca/news/news_26361.aspx

Thank you so much; I sincerely hope that if we all keep our eyes and ears to the ground we will find King unharmed and bring him home!

Julie

P.S. feel free to pass this email along to any contacts who might be able to assist in our search!

HI Julie -thanks for posting this - I am in the Aurora region and have just sent this out to several people on my mail list to get the word out.  I can put one flyer up tonight at NY Farmers if that hasn't already been done - and at RCRA - and my barn also near Aurora.

Thanks

Hi Colleen,
Responding with the truth is not a scare tactic. In our database the
Coalition will include excellent rescues/sanctuaries that are willing
to pull together in this cause. Postings with subject headers
like "misappropriated funds 4 horses" can be interpreted as libelous,
and they do nothing to help our goal of stopping horse slaughter.
Let me be very clear. The Canadian Horse Defense Coalition is an
umbrella group for organizations and individuals who wish to work
together to end horse slaughter. We are comprised of animal welfare
groups, horse groups, private citizens, etc. AT NO TIME has our
mandate included giving out funds for individual rescue operations.
However, we do recognize that rescue is an integral part of this
picture and when horse slaughter ends in Canada, rescue facilities
will become even more crucial. At that point, the coalition's mandate
will have been fulfilled, and its energies will be used to organize
funding for rescues. (As mentioned, TRACS continues to help out
selected sanctuaries as funds permit BECAUSE its mandate is RESCUE.
The coalition's mandate at this time is NOT rescue.)
Hopefully that helps to clarify our position. Colleen, if you and
Elizabeth have any concise ideas of how CHDC might help rescue
organizations attain their goals, please feel free to write to me or
to post these ideas. But please remember that we do not have funds
to give at this point. We can only work on initiatives that would
facilitate rescue.
Thanks,
Sinikka

permanent solutions? It would seem to me that the rescues should be
left standing at the end of the day, with as much support and
cooperation as possible. Because, "where will the horses go? if we
have no rescues. I donnot believe we should use scare tactics and
threaten the recsue operators ;  rather than answer the questions. I
support Paradise Stable Horse Rescue and I do it for the horses not
for a charitable receipt. I also feel many other people have the same
opinion. I strongly suggest that you change your tactics and be more

assists animals by helping to prevent, mitigate and resolve crises.
We accomplish this by sharing expertise, resources and information to
empower others to help more animals.

UAN is committed to:

preventing animals from being in crisis by strengthening the common
bond between people and animals through education

mitigating situations of animals in crisis by:

providing financial assistance to Good Samaritans and rescue
organizations
connecting horses at risk of slaughter with new homes
offering financial incentives to encourage witnesses to animal
cruelty to come forward
and bringing animals out of crisis and into care by:

caring for animals displaced by man-made and natural disasters
connecting volunteers and rescuers with opportunities to help animals
in need

LifeLine Grant Program:
http://www.uan.org/index.cfm?navid=28

The LifeLine Grant Program provides funding to Good Samaritans,
animal rescuers, non-profit organizations and pet owners to help them
care for animals in life-threatening situations. Learn more about our
various LifeLine Grants and find out the eligibility requirements by
following the links below.

LifeLine Rescue and LifeLine Individual:
http://www.uan.org/index.cfm?navid=161

These grants help Good Samaritans, animal rescuers and low-income
families with the high cost of caring by providing grants to meet
emergency veterinary expenses they otherwise couldn't afford.

LifeLine Crisis Relief Grants for Organizations:
http://www.uan.org/index.cfm?navid=165

These grants help deserving grassroots animal welfare organizations
that have jumped in to assist with an animal emergency involving a
group of animals.

LifeLine Crisis Relief Grants for Individuals:
http://www.uan.org/index.cfm?navId=167

These grants help animals in need of assistance after their caregiver
has suffered a personal tragedy such as a house fire, domestic
violence situation or natural disaster.

Hi Sinikka and Shelley.
If you will check the posts on this site, you will see that 'Elizabeth' wrote her post
on a string that mentioned ' misappropriated funds 4 horses ' which pertaines to
a Rescue in the US.
Nowhere in her post does 'Elizabeth' mention anything about 'misappropriated funds 4 horses'
You owe her an apology for attacking her like this.
Ilse.

Hi Colleen,
Responding with the truth is not a scare tactic. In our database the Coalition will include excellent rescues/sanctuaries that are willing to pull together in this cause. Postings with subject headers like "misappropriated funds 4 horses" can be interpreted as libelous,
and they do nothing to help our goal of stopping horse slaughter.
Let me be very clear. The Canadian Horse Defense Coalition is an umbrella group for organizations and individuals who wish to work together to end horse slaughter. We are comprised of animal welfare groups, horse groups, private citizens, etc. AT NO TIME has our mandate included giving out funds for individual rescue operations. However, we do recognize that rescue is an integral part of this picture and when horse slaughter ends in Canada, rescue facilities will become even more crucial. At that point, the coalition's mandate will have been fulfilled, and its energies will be used to organize funding for rescues. (As mentioned, TRACS continues to help out selected sanctuaries as funds permit BECAUSE its mandate is RESCUE. The coalition's mandate at this time is NOT rescue.)
Hopefully that helps to clarify our position. Colleen, if you and Elizabeth have any concise ideas of how CHDC might help rescue organizations attain their goals, please feel free to write to me or to post these ideas. But please remember that we do not have funds to give at this point. We can only work on initiatives that would facilitate rescue.
Thanks,
Sinikka --- In abolishhorseslaughtercanada@yahoogroups.com, colleen wozney <pufferlady@...> wrote:

It would seem to me that the rescues should be left standing at the end of the day, with as much support and cooperation as possible. Because, "where will the horses go? if we have no rescues. I donnot believe we should use scare tactics and threaten the recsue operators ;  rather than answer the questions. I support Paradise Stable Horse Rescue and I do it for the horses not for a charitable receipt. I also feel many other people have the same opinion. I strongly suggest that you change your tactics and be more of a support and team player , as we all are on the same team!. And all want to save the horse at  the end of the day.

Sinnika, Elizabeth never used the subject heading misappropriated funds for horses. That was from a different posting about a rescue in the states.

Hi Colleen,
Responding with the truth is not a scare tactic.
Thanks,
Sinikka

Sinnika,     In response to your abrupt rebuttal to my statement I think you owe Paradise Stable Horse Rescue a public apology. In my opinion the libelous card that you are playing can be turned on you for saying that Elizabeth posted the statement "misappropriated funds 4 horses "when in fact it was clearly posted by Planeta Animal regarding an issue in the U.S. Elizabeth was just on that thread replying to you. Im sure that you will see the errors in your response and rectify this matter promptly so that we all most importantly may continue to fight for the horses together.

Hi Colleen,
Responding with the truth is not a scare tactic.

I also feel many other people have the same
opinion. I strongly suggest that you change your tactics and be more
of a support and team player , as we all are on the same team!. And
all want to save the horse at  the end of the day.

CFHS questions government's role in food safety and animal welfare

OTTAWA, Sept. 3 /CNW Telbec/ - The Canadian Federation of Humane
Societies (CFHS) is calling on Canada's Auditor General to conduct an
independent performance audit of the federal government's capacity to
ensure the humane treatment of farm animals during transport and
slaughter as well as to oversee national animal welfare policies. The
health and welfare of animals
and the safety and security of our food are issues of public good
that must be overseen and taken seriously by the government.
The federal government's recent acknowledgement of its gradual
shift towards industry's self-policing of food safety in
slaughterhouses over the past year is alarming. "It is very clearly a
conflict of interest to have a slaughterhouse employee tasked with
monitoring his own employer", stated Shelagh MacDonald, Program
Director of the CFHS. "This is a bad case of the
fox guarding the hen house."
This shirking of government responsibility comes as no surprise
to the CFHS, which has been frustrated for years by the government's
lack of concern for animal welfare. The Canadian Food Inspection
Agency (CFIA) is responsible for overseeing the welfare of animals
during transport and at slaughterplants.
Their own statistics of inspections show that, out of 160,000
truckloads, nearly 20,000 pigs and cattle are found dead or emaciated
in trucks arriving at slaughterplants in a year. The figure for
poultry is a staggering 2 million. Yet just over 100 penalties were
issued.

The problem clearly originates at the policy level. Agriculture and
Agri-Food Canada's policy framework for the next five years makes no
mention of animal care or welfare whatsoever. "While other countries
are making animal welfare a priority, Canada lags behind with
its 'status quo' approach", claimed Ms. MacDonald. "Public safety,
reliable access to safe food and the humane treatment of animals are
in serious peril in our country".

The CFHS is optimistic the Auditor General will take its request
seriously, especially on the heels of the listeria outbreak.

The CFHS is a charitable organization representing humane
societies and SPCAs across Canada. It receives no government funding.

My apologies, Elizabeth, for thinking that your subject heading
referred to the coalition. You did make comments about coalition
funds being used for purposes other than hands-on rescue, and because
your tone seemed accusatory, a number of us on this forum felt that
you were drawing unfair parallels. I'm glad that this has been
clarified as not being the case.
Now hopefully we can all carry on with our work for the horses, no
matter how we choose to do that work. Individual rescues are
important, as is the bigger goal of ending horse slaughter. The
coalition's focus must remain on that bigger goal, but we applaud the
people who are concentrating on salvaging individual lives.
Sinikka

CFHS questions government's role in food safety and animal welfare
OTTAWA, Sept. 3 /CNW Telbec/ - The Canadian Federation of Humane Societies (CFHS) is calling on Canada's Auditor General to conduct an independent performance audit of the federal government's capacity to ensure the humane treatment of farm animals during transport and slaughter as well as to oversee national animal welfare policies. The health and welfare of animals
and the safety and security of our food are issues of public good that must be overseen and taken seriously by the government.
The federal government's recent acknowledgement of its gradual shift towards industry's self-policing of food safety in slaughterhouses over the past year is alarming. "It is very clearly a conflict of interest to have a slaughterhouse employee tasked with monitoring his own employer", stated Shelagh MacDonald, Program Director of the CFHS. "This is a bad case of the
fox guarding the hen house."
This shirking of government responsibility comes as no surprise to the CFHS, which has been frustrated for years by the government's lack of concern for animal welfare. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is responsible for overseeing the welfare of animals during transport and at slaughterplants.
Their own statistics of inspections show that, out of 160,000 truckloads, nearly 20,000 pigs and cattle are found dead or emaciated in trucks arriving at slaughterplants in a year. The figure for poultry is a staggering 2 million. Yet just over 100 penalties were issued.
The problem clearly originates at the policy level. Agriculture and
Agri-Food Canada's policy framework for the next five years makes no mention of animal care or welfare whatsoever. "While other countries are making animal welfare a priority, Canada lags behind with its 'status quo' approach", claimed Ms. MacDonald. "Public
safety, reliable access to safe food and the humane treatment of animals are in serious peril in our country".
The CFHS is optimistic the Auditor General will take its request seriously, especially on the heels of the listeria outbreak.
The CFHS is a charitable organization representing humane societies and SPCAs across Canada. It receives no government funding.

Lights on Broadway kicks back at his new home.

Lights on Broadway at his new home with Donna Keen.

Former top US galloper Lights on Broadway has made a lucky escape from an extremely short retirement that had him on a truck heading for the meatworks at the end of his racing career.

The winner of more than $US500,000 in race earnings and 2001 Texas Horse of the Year, Lights on Broadway was purchased off a truck earlier this year at the age of 11, destined for a Canadian slaughterhouse.

After achieving star status in his native Texas, Lights on Broadway gradually slipped down the claiming ranks as he aged. Oklahoma-based Quarter Horse trainer Gregg Sanders purchased Lights on Broadway off the slaughter truck this spring after the driver showed him the gelding's Jockey Club papers and impressive race record. Sanders, stunned to see the familiar name and Lights' long history of success, asked the driver to pull Lights off the trailer.

'Lights' was thin and lame. Sanders immediately purchased him and brought him to a deeply bedded stall at his own 30-horse racing stable. Lights on Broadway, who Sanders calls "one of the kindest and gentlest horses I have ever seen," spent most of the next three days stretching out in the comfort of that stall.

The trainer began a feeding regimen to bring Lights' weight back up and had his veterinarian and farrier deal with the injury causing Lights' lameness, now completely healed.

He had a few race starts but failed to fire. The effort then began by supporters to find Lights a good home for his retirement. On the case was anti-slaughter advocate Alex Brown, who continually tracks high-earning horses running for low claiming prices. Brown and a large group of the gelding's fans began working to find the horse a new home for his retirement.

Lights on Broadway during his race career.
These included Texas fans who spread word throughout the state's racing industry; the Fans of Barbaro, a horse welfare group that provided both financial and logistical support, and an anonymous Texas OTTB (off-the-track Thoroughbred) owner who made a generous donation.

Both Lights on Broadway's breeder and the retirement group LOPE Texas offered Lights a home, but when trainer Dallas Keen and his wife Donna made a generous donation of funds and a commitment to work with Lights in his new life, he went back to Texas to live there.

Lights will have plenty of time to rest, and he will then learn a new job. He also will be an ambassador teaching people about the virtually unlimited potential of the off-the-track Thoroughbred, the realities of horse slaughter, and the need for the racing industry to develop good alternatives for re-homing former racehorses.

McCain's VP Pick, Sarah Palin, No Friend to Animals

Friday August 29, 2008
John McCain announces Sarah Palin as his running mate
John McCain Announces Sarah Palin as his running mate
Mario Tama / Getty Images.
John McCain has just announced his choice for the Republican VP slot: Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, who is no friend to animals. In 2007, Palin announced a $150 bounty for wolves. Why? Because wolves prey on moose and caribou, two favorite targets for hunters in Alaska. So Palin instituted a program to encourage hunters to kill wolves so that there would be more moose and caribou for hunters to kill. A lawsuit by Defenders of Wildlife resulted in the Alaska Superior Court ruling that the state Department of Fish and Game did not have the authority to institute a bounty program. A state program to shoot wolves and bears from the air continues, and on August 26, 2008, Ballot Measure 2, which would have stopped the aerial gunning of predators, was defeated by state voters.
Palin is also a hunter and a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association.
In addition, Palin has sued the Bush administration to delist polar bears under the Endangered Species Act because the protection of polar bears interferes with drilling for oil and gas. Palin even penned an op-ed for the New York Times, explaining her scientific arguments against protecting polar bears. Isn't it funny how her op-ed doesn't mention drilling for oil?
Needless to say, from an animal rights standpoint, Sarah Palin would be a disastrous VP.

HORSE SLAUGHTER BILL UP FOR COMMITTEE VOTE

September 8, 2008

Dear Humanitarian:

AWI has learned that the Prevention of Equine Cruelty Act (H.R. 6598) will be voted on by the House Judiciary Committee on Wednesday, September 10th.  The bill, which was introduced in July by Judiciary Chairman John Conyers (D-MI) and Representative Dan Burton (R-IN), will criminalize the slaughter of American horses.  While the vast majority of Americans, the United States Congress and members of the House Judiciary Committee support an end to horse slaughter there are some members on the committee who are staunch supporters of horse slaughter and will attempt to kill the bill through subterfuge.

What You Can Do:

Call and/or email members of the House Judiciary Committee (see full list below) TODAY and ask them "to support passage of the Prevention of Equine Cruelty Act (H.R. 6598) out of committee as introduced, with NO amendments".  Please also ask them "to cosponsor H.R. 6598 if they haven't done so already."  Let them know that:

  • Every 5 Minutes an American horse is slaughtered for human consumption abroad.  Visit www.every5minutes.org for the current number and to learn more about this industry.

  • Despite the closure of the country's three remaining horse slaughter plants in 2007, tens of thousands of American horses continue to be slaughtered in Canada and Mexico in the absence of a strong US law banning prohibiting the trade.

    0

    * The photo above is of a horse in Texarkana, Arkansas, found beaten and crammed onto a horse trailer being transported to slaughter with 18 other horses.

  • Horse slaughter is not humane euthanasia; it is a brutal process during which horses suffer terribly from start to finish.  Their trip to Mexico is often on double deck trailers where they are crammed with dozens of other horses for up to 30 hours without food, water or rest. Once in Mexico some slaughterhouses use a "puntilla" or knife to stab the horse to death.  The entire process is extremely inhumane.

  • Despite claims to the contrary, horse slaughter is not a necessary evil through which sick, old and unwanted horses are humanely disposed of.  The industry is a predatory one that actively seeks out marketable and healthy horses to be slaughtered at great profit.

  • According to the US Department of Agriculture, more than 92% of horses going to slaughter are in good condition and could be placed in a new home.  Those horses who are truly sick or old should be humanely euthanized on the spot by a licensed veterinarian.

  • Horsemeat is considered a delicacy in many European and Asian countries where it is consumed by high-end diners.

  • The Prevention of Equine Cruelty Act (H.R. 6598) will end this cruel trade for good.  Ending horse slaughter is a positive step in improving horse welfare in the US, which is why so many horse industry groups and leaders, veterinarians, humane organizations and equine rescues strongly support an end to horse slaughter.

Whether you contact your legislator by phone or email, please be sure to provide him or her with your name and mailing address, and if you are a constituent, request a response on this specific issue. Please also share our "Dear Humanitarian" eAlert with family, friends and co-workers, and encourage them to contact their legislators, too. As always, thank you very much for your help.

URGENT eALERT!!!  CALLS NEEDED TODAY!!!

Sincerely,
Cathy Liss

He's home. He appeared out of the blue on King Road. He ran up out of the ditch and stopped on the road. The driver who nearly hit him got out and caught him, then called 911. They took him into Kinghaven at Weston Road and called me.

He's very battered. He's probably lost 50 or 100lbs. He has a huge lump under his belly. Both hind legs are filled and a bit hot. He has no cuts on his legs, but has a ton of them all over both sides and his hindquarters. He's very nervous and unsettled. But fundamentally he seems to be okay. I'll get the vet out tomorrow to check him out.

When I got out of the truck and talked to the police, King started yelling bloody murder from around the corner. I couldn't even see him and I knew it was him. I came around the barn and he was very excited - pacing back and forth impatiently. He loaded himself on his trailer very happily. And he was thrilled to see his home when I opened the trailer. Yelled out his arrival at everyone.

We were on CTV news earlier tonight, and on CityTV. So my suspicion is that he was getting too hot to be kept anywhere and was dumped by whoever had him. I have a hard time imagining that he got across Yonge Street, and the 400 without anyone seeing him. And the police agreed that it was likely what had happened.

I'm a bit high on relief right now. And I'll be more coherent tomorrow. But I just want to say that I really believe that King came home because SO many people went so far above and beyond in the effort to help. You guys all helped to get the word out and to make King so well known in such a short time that there was no way anyone could keep him or sell him on.

I cannot begin to tell you all how much I appreciate it. That horse is the love of my life. As most of you know. I'd have been destroyed to lose him. So THANK YOU to every single one of you.

best,
Deanna

Fantastic news!!!  King was found on King Road (I was driving along there yesterday!)

Just so everyone knows - I saw on the news last night that 2 horses are missing from Schikedanz's big horse farm on Hwy 9 and Jane Street.  Happened about a week ago too - 2 thoroughbreds - close to where King went missing.

I'm sure we're all trying to be more vigilant about watching out for our horses.

Thanks for posting - so great to hear King is safe!!

Shelley

Deanna Ramsay’s horse has been missing since August 29th from his paddock. We now fear that he has possibly been stolen as there is no trace of King.

We have searched from airplane and also surrounding lands by ATV…this is a heavily populated area, so someone must have seen him….there is a $2,000 reward offered for his return and this figure is growing as donations come in. Please take the time to view this short news clip about King’s disappearance and help to spread the word. I have also attached a poster that you can put up at your local feed/tack shops. If you are near any auction houses, please keep an eye out for him as well.

Thank you so much; I sincerely hope that if we all keep our eyes and ears to the ground we will find King unharmed and bring him home!

Julie

Hello Everyone,

I would like to let each of you know about the wonderful news that Deanna’s horse, Sky King, was found late yesterday evening!!! By all accounts it looks like the thieves dumped him after all the media attention and extensive searching. Here is a message from Deanna below detailing his recovery and her gratitude to the horse community who jumped in so quickly….

Take care everyone and thank you again for helping to spread the word!!!

Julie

So THANK YOU to every single one of you.

best,
Deanna
