This is the group events and chatter page for the Canton of Abhainn Iarthair (pronounced A-van YAR-thur: accents on the first syllables of words; the "bh" is an English "v"; short "a" in both syllables of the first word, as in "fan"; the second word rhymes with "Arthur"). Scottish Gaelic for "west river," the name refers to the Shenandoah River, which flows through the group's proposed territory. .

Mundanely, the canton covers most of Frederick, Warren, and Clarke counties, and the cities of Winchester and Strasburg, in northwestern Virginia. In the SCA, Abhainn an Iar is in the western part of the barony of Stierbach, on the kingdom of Atlantia's border with the kingdom of Aethelmearc.
