Reminding All to keep fast on 9th Dhul-Hijjah

The Prophet (PBUH) said: Anyone who fasts for one day for Allah pleasure, Allah will keep his face away from the (Hell) fire for (a distance covered by a journey of) seventy years.” (Bukhari, Muslim)

The Prophet (PBUH) used to fast on the ninth day of Dhul-Hijjah and he said: “Fasting the Day of Arafah (ninth Dhul-hijjah) is an expiation for (all the sins of) the previous year and an expiation for (all the sins of) the coming year.” (Muslim)

Please note : Fasting on Day of Arafah does not mean we have to fast as per saudi hajj calender. We have to fast 1 day before your local eid day.

*ninth day of Dhul-Hijjah is 1day before Eid al-Adhaa.

As Haj approaches, Ummah gets united

Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) delivered a passionate and soul-stirring sermon during his first and only Haj on the 9th of Dhul Hijjah – the day of Arafah. The sermon, which is popularly known as the Farewell Sermon, is recorded in several authentic books of Ahadith, including Sahih Al-Bukhari and Musnad Ahmad. The Prophet (peace be upon him) did not live till next year’s Haj and this was his farewell address to the tens of thousands of Muslims who did the pilgrimage with him.

“O People, just as you regard this month, this day, this city as sacred, so regard the life and property of every Muslim as a sacred trust. Return the goods entrusted to you to their rightful owners. Treat others justly so that no one would be unjust to you. Remember that you will indeed meet your Lord, and that He will indeed reckon your deeds.”

The Prophet also exhorted the Muslims to fear Allah regarding women and to keep their hands off each other’s wealth and property. The 9th of Dhul Hijjah is sacred even for those Muslims who are not performing Haj. Its fast is an expiation for sins committed in the previous year and the next. (Sahih Muslim, no. 1162)

The sight of hundreds of thousands of Muslims embarking on their journey of Haj, proclaiming the talbiyah, telecast all around the world calls us to think about the time when Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him) built the Ka’bah with his son Isma’il in the scorching, arid, and barren valley of Makkah thousands of years ago. He found it incredible that people would one day throng this Sacred House, in this uninhabited land, to answer their Lord’s call for Haj. He therefore prayed for Makkah to be blessed with fruit and provision from all around, and for people’s hearts to be inclined towards its people.

“O our Lord! I have made some of my offspring to dwell in a valley without cultivation, by Your Sacred House; in order, O our Lord, that they may establish regular Prayer: so fill some hearts among men with love towards them, and (O Allah) provide them with fruits so that they may give thanks.” (Qur’an, 14:37)

He then proceeded, in submission to Allah’s command, to make the call for Haj to all mankind. Allah responded by declaring that a day would come, when this Sacred House would bring forth pilgrims from every distant valley, and on every riding beast available to them; they would come, responding to Allah’s call for Haj.

“And proclaim to mankind the Haj (pilgrimage). They will come to you on foot and on every lean camel, they will come from every deep and distant (wide) mountain highway (to perform Haj).” (Qur’an, 22:27)

The blessing is apparent. The Muslim Ummah, though divided today by sects, groups, and international borders, unites into one nation. Yes, we all unite during Haj, Alhamdulillah. We put everything aside to respond to Allah’s call. All pilgrims gather together on a single stretch of land – the plain of Arafah. Away from their comfortable homes, dressed in a pair of unstitched cloths, their faces covered with dust, their heads unprotected from the sun, their bellies half-empty, and their hearts humbled, they stand in remembrance of their Lord, turning to Him in repentance and submission. The most diehard of sinners can, on this day, transform into a humble, penitent servant with the mercy of Allah.

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “There is no day on which Allah frees more of His slaves from the Fire than the day of Arafah. He draws close then He praised them before the angels and says, ‘What do these people want?’” (Sahih Muslim, no. 1348)

After returning from Arafah, however, some unfortunate Muslims fall into the trap of Satan and fall into petty disputes about petty matters! They forget the essence of Haj, which teaches valuable lessons of mutual harmony and forbearance, as the Prophet advised in his last sermon.

Nothing rings true as much as the part of his sincere speech quoted below, the message of which, if Muslims were to take back home with them after Haj, would change their attitudes for good: “Know that every Muslim is a brother to every Muslim and that the Muslims constitute one brotherhood. Nothing shall be legitimate to a Muslim, which belongs to a fellow Muslim, unless it is given freely and willingly. Do not, therefore, be unjust to yourselves.” (Al-Bukhari, no. 1623; and Muslim, no. 98)

COLUMNISTS

Like we have Islamists, are there Brahminists too?

S.M. Mushrif may have thrown up an important question which he believes will almost certainly be killed by the media.

He describes Hemant Karkare as a noble Brahmin and his detractors as Brahminists. It seems that Mushrif, a former DIG of Maharashtra police, admired Karkare for his avowed secularism like most Indian Muslims would swear by Pandit Nehru.

Nehru was a Kashmiri Brahmin who detested the obscurantist nationalism of those Brahmins who belonged to the RSS stable from Maharashtra.

The battle-lines between secular Brahmins, represented by Karkare, the fallen anti-terror police chief who was killed in last November’s terror attack in Mumbai, and Brahminist supremacists whom he was moving to neutralise, thus goes back a long way in history.

The Indian political class of all religions including their caste categories is essentially lined up behind these two opposite types of Brahmins – secularists and supremacists.

At least this is what Mushrif’s book about Karkare’s mysterious death suggests in its core thesis.

Mushrif’s account of Karkare’s death on the first night of the gunbattle with terrorists hints at the possibility that the secular Brahmin had big enemies among Brahminist supremacists. It reads though more like an instinctive conjecture than a well-grounded thesis.

The book ‘Who killed Karkare? The real face of terrorism in India’ accuses the all powerful Intelligence Bureau (IB) of representing Brahminist lobbies. And it says that India’s external spy agency RAW is relatively free of Brahminist influence.

This is a serious observation and it has come from someone who was once part of the system at a fairly high level. Should there be a debate at least about the character of these agencies, all the more because of the clout they seem to wield in the shaping of India’s national consciousness.

The Americans lionise the CIA and the FBI but they also keep very close tabs on what their agencies are up to. Revelations on Guantanamo Bay and Abu Ghraib were examples of a healthy check placed on runaway and usually misplaced nationalist zeal.

Even in the Pakistani media, the ISI and other powerful state institutions are often put under public scrutiny. In the Indian media these institutions are either not discussed, or if they are treated like holy cows.

Mushrif has broken new ground by becoming the rare high-ranking police officer to put a sharp focus on an un-discussed subject. It is another matter that the book sounds a bit shrill in expressing its concerns, and there will be criticism, if the claims are not altogether ignored and hidden from public gaze.

Mushrif goes into history to make his point. Right or wrong, I believe it needs to be discussed, criticised but certainly not ignored.

According to Mushrif, the first pre-planned Hindu-Muslim riot was caused by Maharashtrian Brahminists of Pune in 1893. They did so to divert the attention of common Hindus from the reformist movement of Jyotiba Phule and others, which was sweeping the region in the last half of the 19th century. Is this a valid view that needs to be studied?

Mushrif lists 48 incidents connected with ‘terrorism of Brahminist organisations,’ As many as 35 were located in Maharashtra. ‘Though in some of the cases, common Hindu youths appear to be involved, a detailed enquiry into them would reveal that the Brahminists have been their masterminds.’

Mushrif says a recent conspiracy unearthed by Karkare to destabilise India’s constitutionally established democratic republic and to form a Brahminist Rashtra was hatched in Maharashtra and most of the accused persons, including the main alleged conspirator, Lt Col Purohit, were Maharashtrian Brahminists, as distinct from secular Brahmins.

Mushrif believes that Abhinav Bharat, an extremist group being investigated by Karkare when he was killed, was ‘the fountain of inspiration’ for anti-India terrorism. Its national president was Himani Savarkar ‘a staunch Brahminist and daughter-in-law of V.D. Savarkar’s brother, who hails from Maharashtra’.

Doubts are raised in the book about attacks blamed on Muslims. Mushrif thinks these were false flag attacks staged by Brahminists.

‘The Ahmedabad bomb blast and Surat unexploded bombs case of July 2008 had a Maharashtra connection, as the emails received by some TV channels minutes before the blasts were traced to New Mumbai. The vehicles used for the blasts were stolen from New Mumbai and passed through Talasari toll post in Thane district of Maharashtra, presumably by tampering the CCTV cameras installed at all the toll posts. Some of the unexploded bombs were found wrapped in Marathi newspapers.’

Mushrif’s accusations seem to be superficial but they are too serious to be ignored. That includes his claim that ‘the Brahminists in Maharashtra managed to give the investigation a totally different twist with the help of their brethren in the IB.’

Taking up a controversial encounter killing of two young alleged terrorists in the so-called Batla House raid in a Muslim locality in Delhi last year, Mushrif says the SIM cards of mobile phones found with the killed men were traced to Aurangabad district of Maharashtra.

‘The SIM cards were also found to have been used by the terrorists to contact somebody in Aurangabad. However, only a superficial enquiry has been made into the matter and no action has been taken against the real masterminds. If probed deep and taken to its logical end, it would expose a Brahminist connection.’

Clearly Mushrif would gain by writing with more care and he does lose valuable points by making charges that will be difficult to prove.

Mushrif quotes another incident to make the Brahminist link. ‘In the Kanpur explosion of August 2008, Maharashtra connections have been disclosed. In this case, two Bajrang Dal activists (Rajiv Mishra and Bhupinder Singh) had died while making explosive devices. The investigation revealed that they had plans for massive explosions in the minority-dominated Ferozabad, and that they had frequently called up on two mobile phones in Mumbai since two months before the blast. But the police have not yet been able to identify the persons concerned, apparently under the Brahminist-dominated IB.’

About the Mumbai attack of November 26, last year, Mushrif raises a key doubt. ‘During the Mumbai terror attack of 26/11, the mobile phones used by the terrorists who wreaked havoc at the CST Station have been traced to Satara District of Maharashtra. In whoevers’ name the SIM cards may stand, an in-depth investigation would lead the trail to Brahminist organisations and their leaders. But this matter has been frozen by the IB and the Crime Branch in Mumbai, for obvious reasons.’

The trouble with Mushrif’s book is that it is not so ‘obvious’ that he is essentially right on all his claims. But that could hardly be a reason to not take his perspective with a degree of seriousness that a fair fight against terrorism deserves.

As-Salaam Alaikum Wa-Rahmatullahi Wa-Barakatuhu

Few Rulings of Udhiyah (Sacrifice)
compiled from islam-qa by Adil ibn Manzoor Khan

Is it permissible to offer a sacrifice for the dead ?

The Muslims are agreed that it is prescribed to offer a sacrifice (udhiyah), and it is permissible to offer a sacrifice on behalf of one who has died, because of the general meaning of the hadeeth of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), “When the son of Adam dies, all his good deeds come to an end except three: ongoing charity, beneficial knowledge, or a righteous son who will pray for him.”

Narrated by Muslim. Abu Dawood, al-Tirmidhi and al-Nasaai, and by al-Bukhaari in al-Adab al-Mufrad from Abu Hurayrah.

Slaughtering a sacrifice on his behalf is a kind of ongoing charity, because it benefits the person offering the sacrifice, the deceased person, and others.

Slaughtering the Sacrifice is Better than Giving its Price in Charity

Slaughtering the sacrifice is better than giving its price in charity, because that was what the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) and the Muslims with him did. And because the sacrifice is one of the ritual of Islam; if the people turn away from it and give charity instead, that symbol will die out.

If giving the price of the sacrifice in charity was better than slaughtering the sacrifice, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) would have explained that to his ummah in word and deed, because he did not omit to explain anything that was good for the ummah. Indeed, if giving charity was equal to offering the sacrifice he would have explained that too, because it is easier than going to the trouble of offering the sacrifice. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) never failed to point out the easier option to his ummah when it was equal to the more difficult option. There was a famine during the lifetime of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) and he said, “Whoever among you offers a sacrifice should not keep any of it in his house for more than three days.”

The following year, they said, “O Messenger of Allaah, should we do what we did last year?” The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Eat and feed the poor and store some, for last year the people were having a hard time and I wanted you to help them.” Agreed upon.

The sacrifice was injured before it was slaughtered

A few days before Eid, I bought a lamb which was sound and healthy, to offer it as a sacrifice on Eid. When it was being brought down the stairs on the way to be sacrificed, it suffered an injury to its leg (one hour before being sacrificed)… is this considered to be a flaw in the sacrifice?

The author of Zaad al-Mustaqni said: “If it (the sacrifice) gets injured (develops a flaw), it may still be slaughtered and this will do…”

Shaykh Ibn Uthaymeen said: an example of that is when a man buys a sheep to sacrifice it, then it breaks its leg and is unable to walk and keep up with the rest of the flock, after he has selected it for sacrifice. In this case it may be slaughtered and this will do, because when it was selected it became a trust, like something that was entrusted to him. Because it is something entrusted and the injury was not the result of his action or his negligence, so he is not obliged to offer any guarantee, and it will do.

See al-Sharh al-Mumti, part 7, p. 515

Speaking the intention out loud when slaughtering the sacrifice

Is it permissible to speak the intention out loud for example when I want to slaughter a sacrifice on behalf of my deceased father and I say, “O Allaah, it is the udhiyah for my father So and so,” or is it sufficient simply to do the deed without saying anything out loud?.

The seat of the intention is the heart, and whatever a person intends in his heart is sufficient. He should not speak the intention out loud, rather he should say Bismillaah and Allaahu akbar when slaughtering it, because it was proven in al-Saheehayn that Anas (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: “The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) slaughtered two rams with his own hand, and he said Bismillaah and Allaahu akbar.” Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 7/130, no. 5554; Muslim, 3/1556, no. 1966; Ahmad, 3/115.

There is nothing wrong with you saying, “O Allaah, this is a sacrifice on behalf of my father.” This does not mean that you are speaking the intention out loud.

Sharing in a sacrifice

It is permissible to share in a sacrifice if it is a camel or a cow, but it is not permissible to share in a sheep. It is permissible for seven people to share one camel or cow.

It is narrated that the Sahaabah (may Allaah be pleased with them) shared sacrifices: seven people would share a camel or a cow in Hajj and Umrah

Muslim (1318) narrated that Jaabir ibn Abd-Allaah (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: “On the day of al-Hudaybiyah we offered the sacrifice with the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), a camel on behalf of seven and a cow on behalf of seven.

According to another report, it was narrated that Jaabir (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: We performed Hajj with the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), and we sacrificed a camel on behalf of seven and a cow on behalf of seven.

Abu Dawood (2808) narrated from Jaabir ibn Abd-Allaah that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “A cow on behalf of seven and a camel on behalf of seven.” Classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh Abi Dawood.

Al-Nawawi said in Sharh Muslim:

These ahaadeeth indicate that it is permissible to share in the sacrifice, but they are unanimously agreed that it not permissible to share in a sheep. These ahaadeeth indicate that a camel is sufficient on behalf of seven people, and a cow is sufficient on behalf of seven people, and each of them takes the place of seven sheep. So if a muhrim is required to offer seven sacrifices –except in the case of the penalty for hunting – and he slaughters a camel or a cow, that is equivalent to them all.

The time for udhiyah (sacrifice)

The time for offering the sacrifice begins after the Eid prayer on Eid al-Adha and ends when the sun sets on the thirteenth of Dhul-Hijjah. So there are four days of sacrifice: the day of Eid al-Adha and the three days after it.

It is better to hasten to offer the sacrifice after the Eid prayer, as the Messenger (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) used to do, then the first thing he would eat on the day of Eid would be meat from his sacrifice

Ahmad (22475) narrated that Buraydah (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) did not go out on the day of (Eid) al-Fitr until he had eaten, and he did not eat on the day of (Eid) al-Adha until he came back, then he would eat from his sacrifice.

Al-Zaylai narrated in Nasb al-Raayah (2/221) that Ibn al-Qattaan classed it as saheeh.

Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allaah have mercy on him) said in Zaad al-Ma’aad (2/319):

The three days are specified because they are the days of Mina, the days of stoning (the Jamaraat) and the day of al-Tashreeq. It is forbidden to fast on these days. It was narrated via two isnaads, one of which supports the other, that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “All of Mina is the place of sacrifice, and all the days of al-tashreeq are days of sacrifice.” End quote.

The hadeeth was classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in al-Silsilah al-Saheehah, 2476

Shaykh Ibn Uthaymeen said in Ahkaam al-Udhiyah, concerning the time for offering the sacrifice

It is from after the Eid prayer on the Day of Sacrifice until the sun sets on the last of the days of al-tashreeq, which is the thirteenth of Dhul-Hijjah. So there are four days of sacrifice: the day of Eid after the prayer, and three days after that.

Whoever slaughters his sacrifice before the Eid prayer is over, or after the sun sets on the thirteenth, his sacrifice is not valid … but if he has an excuse for delaying it until after the days of al-tashreeq, such as if the animal ran away with no negligence on his part, and he did not find it until after the time was over, or if he delegated someone to do it on his behalf and his deputy forgot until the time was over, then there is nothing wrong with offering the sacrifice after the time has ended, because there is an excuse, by analogy with the fact that one who sleeps and misses a prayer or forgets it should offer the prayer as soon as he wakes up or remembers it.

It is permissible to offer the sacrifice during that time by night or by day, but it is better during the day, and the day of Eid after the two khutbahs is the best time. Each day is better than the following day, because that is hastening to do good. End quote.

It says in Fataawa al-Lajnah al-Daa’imah (11/406):

The days of sacrifice for pilgrims performing qiraan or tamattu, and for offering the sacrifice (udhiyah) are four: the day of Eid and the three days after that. The time for sacrifice ends when the sun sets on the fourth day, according to the soundest scholarly opinion. End quote.

And Allaah is the Source of strength.

In stone age sacrifices of virgins and humans were practiced besides the
sacrifice of the domestic animals.

Biblical accounts of sacrifice begin with Cain’s sacrifice of the fruit of
the ground, not acceptable to God, and Abel’s rightful sacrifice of the
firstlings of his flock. The release of Abraham from the vow to sacrifice
Isaac has been read as an argument against human sacrifice in Hebrew
tradition, evidenced elsewhere in the story of Jephthah’s daughter. After
their Temple was destroyed by Romans in A.D. 70, the Jewish sacrificial
cult was replaced by other activities; among present-day Samaritans,
however, the paschal lamb is still sacrificed at the time of the Passover.

In the New Testament, the symbolization of Jesus by the sacrificial lamb
is frequent. In the ancient liturgies, the Eucharist is regarded as a real
continuation of this sacrifice of Calvary; hence Roman Catholics call the
 Mass “the holy sacrifice.”

Other ancient cultures of the Middle East, Asia, and Europe also had religions
with sacrificial rituals. Perhaps the most fully developed was that of the Vedic
religion in India, as worked out in great detail in the Brahmanic texts. The
Maya and the Aztec developed a particularly bloody and elaborate ritual of
human sacrifice. Human sacrifice in simpler forms (e.g., cannibalism,
head-hunting, killing of prisoners) has also been widespread. The practice
of human sacrifice is rare in recent years, although survivals do exist in
some parts of the world, and even animal sacrifice has become widely
reviled. In the United States, practitioners of Afro-Caribbean religions such
as voodoo and Santería have been subject to law enforcement restrictions
on animal sacrifice, but in 1993 the U.S. Supreme Court ruled it was a
constitutionally protected practice as a religious rite.

Islam introduced a new philosophy for sacrifice. The whole point of a sacrifice
is that you give up something you never really wanted to give up in the first
place. Your offerings for sacrifice are symbolic of your resolve to achieve
piety and to do everything possible to protect Islam to help the suffering
humanity wherever and however possible.

"Neither the flesh nor the blood of your sacrifices reaches God, but it is
the righteous motive underlying them that reaches Him." (22:37)

The Shipwreck

The only survivor of a shipwreck was washed up on a small, uninhabited island ....
He prayed feverishly for Allah to rescue him,and every day he scanned the horizon for help, but none seemed forthcoming.

Exhausted, he eventually managed to build a little hut out of driftwood to protect him from the elements and to store his few possessions.

But then one day, after scavenging for food,he arrived home to find his little hut in flames, the smoke rolling up to the sky. The worst had happened;everything was lost. He was stunned with grief and anger.

"Allah, how could you do this to me!" he cried.
(Comment; Plenty of people use such statement --- think again you should never qestion Allah nor object to his willing)

Early the next day, however, he was awakened by the sound of a ship that was approaching the island. It had come to rescue him.

"How did you know I was here?" asked the weary man of his rescuers. "We saw your smoke signal," they replied.

It is easy to get discouraged when things are going badly.
But we shouldn't lose heart, because Allah is at work in our lives, even in the midst of pain and suffering.

Remember, next time your little hut is burning to the ground--it just may be a smoke signal that summons The Grace of Allah.

Procrastinating On Hindutva Terror

(Sanatan Sanstha's link to Margao blast conspiracy just got thicker with all five accused arrested in the case having allegiance to the Hindu right wing organisation operating from Goa police said.

The latest arrest of 20-year old Dhananjay Ashtekar, an engineering student from Khed in Ratnagiri is also associated with Sanatan Sanstha's activities. Ashtekar was arrested on Wednesday evening by state police's Special Investigation Team, which is mandated to probe the blast. "He is related to Sanstha and has made it clear during his interrogation," Superintendent of Police and spokesperson for Goa police department Atmaram Deshpande told PTI on Thursday.

Ashtekar was studying in an engineering college at Ichalkaranji, a town in western Maharashtra. Deshpande said that the youth was being interrogated over blast case and only when there was sufficient material on record to prove his involvement, he was placed under arrest. Ashtekar is the fifth Sanatan Sanstha activist found to be linked with the blast conspiracy which went awry on the eve of Diwali.

Earlier two accused, Malgonda Patil and Yogesh Naik, who died in the Margao blast and two arrested persons, Vinayak Patil and Vinay Talekar, have confessed their links to Sanstha, which operates through its Ashram at Ramnathi. Deshpande had earlier said that the Sanstha is under scanner as its activists are part of the blast conspiracy. The police have, however, refused to move for a ban against Sanstha as there are no enough evidence to rope in it for the conspiracy. The Margao blast took place on October 16 killing two persons.

I.

How to keep Procrastinating When It Comes To Hindutva Terror ?

With every passing day it is becoming apparent that Indian state has different yardsticks to treat terrorism of the Hindutva kind and that of the 'Jihadi' kind. It is not for nothing that more than four weeks after the bomb blasts in Goa - which saw deaths of two activists of Sanatan Sanstha, a emergent fanatic group cloaked in spiritual clothing - there has not been any significant move on part of the Goan government.

Apart from arrests of three people - Vinay Talekar, 30, and Vinayak Patil, 27, originally from Karnataka and Dhananjay Ashtekar, a student of engineering from Ratnagiri- we have seen merely empty statements emanating from the powers that be, which at times were even found to be contradictory to each other. And all those claims by the home minister Mr Ravi Naik that the government is contemplating ban on the organisation have similarly proved empty promises merely made for public consumption.
In fact a leading police officer from Goa Superintendent of Police Atmaram Deshpande- who is incharge of the investigations into the Goa bomb blasts - had made the intentions clear while talking to the media about the "..difference between jihadi terrorism and right wing Hindu terrorism" ( 2 nd Nov 2009).

Despite the danger the conspiracy posed to the atmosphere of fragile peace in Margao - which happens to be a communally sensitive city - the Superintendent of Police had no qualms in sharing his weird understanding vis-a-vis terrorim.

"The aims and goals of both groups differ. Jihadi elements have threatened Goa's coastline in the past. We have also received threats of places frequented by tourists being targeted in the past. But this is different,"

"The recent attack shows that the target was a public function frequented by many people. Chaos was perhaps their intended objective," he added.

Perhaps the police officer did not want to look at the revealations that the dead activists and the accused were hoping to fan communal tensions by misleading the police through items they wanted to leave behind at the site: a shopping bag from a shop at "Khan Market" Delhi, a bottle of traditional perfume popular among Muslims and an empty bag of basmati rice on which all the words were in Urdu.

As a recap of the whole incident it may be told that how two people, both members of the Sanatan Sanstha, died in the Diwali eve blast when detonator-rigged gelatine sticks they were ferrying on a scooter exploded. Malgonda Patil, a Sangli-based high ranking member of the SS died of injuries a few hours after the blast; the other scooter rider Yogesh Naik succumbed to his injuries a few days later. It is learnt both Patil and Naik, who have been accused in the blast case, were parking their scooter near a festive gathering 100 metres from the district administration headquarters building when the gelatine sticks exploded.Goa Chief Minister Digambar Kamat was in close proximity when the incident occurred.

They were also involved in planting another bomb at Sancaole town 20 km away , near the port town of Vasco, which could not explode because of the alertness shown by the people around.in The alert occupants of a truck flung a bag into a nearby field when they heard a clock ticking inside. The zipped bag contained a timer device and a few sticks of gelatine, which was diffused by the police bomb disposal squad late in the night.

The truck was carrying nearly 40 people and was headed for a narakasura competition, where thousands of people were gathered to see several giant effigies being judged for prizes and then set on fire, as part of a popular Diwali tradition in Goa.

In a writeup in Indian Express ( 8 th Nov 2009) ' Goa Bombers Tried To Leave Muslim Imprint' the reporter even quotes another police officer on the condition of anonymity " The material was enough to spark communal trouble in Margao and extremist elements from outside would have found it easy to aggravate it." A close look at the plan to 'leave Muslim imprint' had echoes of earlier attempts by Hindutva terrorists of different hues to spark communal tension. The Malegaon bomb blast in 2008 which saw the exposure of the wide Hindutva terrorist network - thanks to the efforts of a committed officer like Hemant Karkare - had also seen similar actions by the fanatics. In fact the members of Abhinav Bharat had parked their explosive laden motorcycle below the defunct office of the SIMI in Bhikhu Chowk, Malegaon. The Nanded bomb blast in 2006 had also seen fake beards and dresses normally worn by Muslims at the house of the terrorists who had died in the bomb blasts.

II.

Did the Goan government partially footed the bill for the blasts ?

Investigation into the Goa bomb blasts has exposed a another dangerous dimension of the sprawling network of Sanatan Sanstha within the administration. Whether it has to do with the presence of Sudhin Dhavalikar, a minister in the Digambar Kamat government whose wife Jyoti happens to be part of the leading team of Sanatan Sanstha needs to be further probed ?

And thus despite the fact that Maharashtra Anti Terrorist Squad had forwarded a proposal to the Maharashtra government to ban the organisation after the infamous blast at Gadkari Rangayatan (theatre) in Thane in June 2008, and Panvel and when investigations had pointed fingers at the Sanatan Sanstha, the Goan government continued with its policy of advertising in the newspaper brought out by the Sanstha.

...Menino Peres, director of the department of information and publicity (DIP) that controls state government advertising, said several advertisements had been released to the propaganda arm of the SS, a multilingual broadsheet named Sanatan Prabhat, over the years.

"We released advertisements to them like we issue ads to other papers too. We are not going out of our way doing it," Peres told IANS.

Peres was unable to immediately mention the amount of money that was spent by the DIP on advertisements released to the SS annually.

When asked if the state government would stop releasing advertisements to the newspaper in view of the new found infamy gained by the SS, Peres said such a decision would have to be taken by the state government.

...Vishnu Wagh, advisor to the DIP, told reporters Thursday that the daily Sanatan Prabhat had the potential to "breed terrorists".

Wagh also said that the newspaper had been abusing the liberties granted under the freedom of media for a long time now. "Dainik Sanatan Prabhat has abused freedom of press for long now. They have consistently derided the system of democracy in the country. Their literature can easily breed terrorists," Wagh said. "The literature published in the newspaper is socially divisive and acts like poison in society," he added. (Oct 30, 2009, IANS)

Interestingly much on the lines of involvement of Lt Col Purohit, who was one of the mastermind of the Malegaon bomb blasts, one also finds that the Sanatan Sanstha could have also established links within some sections of the military to further its divisive agenda. A report carried by 'Deccan Herald'(31.10.2009) makes a disturbing revelations about an ex-Navy officer's Sanatan links going unprobed. (Devika Sequeira, Panaji, Oct 30, DHNS)

Former Indian Navy officer Sean Michael Clarke, the son of retired Commodore Richard Clarke, has been an active member of the Sanatan Sanstha in Goa for over three years. Internal police documents in the possession of this newspaper show that Sean Clarke, lived in the Sanatan Ramnathi ashram in Ponda from December 2006, the very year he acquired Australian nationality.

On May 5, 2009, Sean Clarke, 39, made a formal application to the CID for a year’s extension of his visa, “to render ‘seva’ (service)” to the Sanatan Ramnathi ashram as a full time voluntary worker. Though the former navy officer styles himself as a spiritual guru, claiming to run the Sanatan’s Spiritual Research Foundation website, police documents show he shared the dais publicly with militant saffron groups like the Bajran Dal, VHP and the RSS on two occasions here in Goa. The public meetings were suffused with provocative rhetoric directed at the government and the minorities. But the police cleared Sean for visa extensions several times saying there was nothing “adverse” in his record.

The Sanatan says Sean is no longer in the ashram. “He left some three or four months ago,” SS trustee Virendra Marathe told this newspaper.

His sister, the once well-known model Sharon Clarke Sequeira, 42, however, still lives in the ashram. Marathe says she has been associated with them from 1990...
He took premature retirement, his documents say, for medical reasons. His father Richard Clarke served as the CO of the navy’s Hansa base in Goa in the 90s.

III.

SANATAN in Serbia ?

As it always happens the most convenient way of shirking one's responsibility in any particular case is blaming 'systemic failure'. Ravi Naik, the home minister of Goa, who has recently been in news after his statements after the Goa blasts recently admitted that the Margao blast, indicated an intelligence failure. "State intelligence agencies had no knowledge of the blast in the commercial town, which clearly indicates their failure," Naik told a local media channel during a television show on Monday night. "Sanatan Saunstha was under the police scanner after the Thane and Panvel blasts in Maharashtra, but despite this they (intelligence agencies) had no inkling of what is being conspired by its members," he said. (Margao blast indicates intelligence failure, admits Goa minister, November 03, 2009 13:46 IST, www.rediff.com)
Perhaps he should have replaced 'intelligence failure' with 'absence of political will'.

It is also being discussed that the foreign links of this fanatic group are being probed to know its wide network. In fact it would be in the larger interest of humanity if Mr Ravi Naik looks into this report prepared by a group of experts about Sanatan's operations in Serbia and the manner in which it was ultimately banned there calling it an "..[e]xceptionally harmful cult that threatens human rights, freedom of choice, freedom of opinion, of belief as well as mental and social balance, and the safety of the individual as well as that of the State. Under a humanitarian disguise, Sanatan champions terrorism" (http://griess. st1.at/gsk/ fecris/ 85%20conf%20engl% 20PETROVIC. htm, for its reference go through the below links,

3A5b8gyda5z5a&ie=UTF-8&q=sanatan&sa=Search)

The report ("SANATAN": spiritual science or a mentally and socially exceptionally dangerous cult ?) prepared in 2004 discusses how "..[t]he social situation in Serbia enabled the rise of a cult that is relatively unknown in our country, and is probably little known in other European Union countries, too."

It talks about the "Sanatan/Eternally New" cult, which promotes itself to the outside world as: "A Society for Scientific Spirituality" and its gurus are Dr. Djajant Baladie Atavle and Dr. Kunda Djajant Atavle whose publications includes "Hypnotherapy", "Pakistani Psychology", "The Science of Hypnosis", "Kschatadarma – Protection of Sadaques and the destruction of criminals".

The said cult was listed in Serbia as a humanitarian organisation, thanks to ten people's signature, under the usual statement of "without political, religious or lucrative aims".
Discussing the operations of the cult it present the following facts :

"Sadaques are "truth seekers". According to Spiritual Science, the Sadaque is willing to give up "his body, his mind, his material means and his life" to his spiritual guru, with the ultimate goal of sacrificing his life for the guru. The destruction of his enemies is the only spiritual practice of the Sadaques/truth seekers. .. Criminal are tradespeople, politicians, lawyers, doctors, the police, etc. – people who in actual fact trouble very few people. They must be destroyed while praising God and respecting "subjective emotions" and following "subtle signs". They must be killed even through the use of weapons. This is, in fact, a very simple spiritual practice."

After briefly describing the Santan indoctrination the report provides details of how the group is led by a female guru who started by 'renting an apartment and then buying a large house on the edge of Belgrade, at the foot of Mount Avala' where this guru and her followers and sympathisers live. Interestingly the manner in which great deal of noise was made by people gathering there every day at the house led compelled the local people to approach the police for an inquiry into what was happening at the yellow house.

The night following this request, an unknown person or group threw stones at this house and police and firemen quickly arrived at the scene and opened an inquest.
It was worth noting that the media, the television, the radio and even the Human Rights Committee in Helsinki immediately reacted, which defended the rights of the "Sanatan humanitarian organisation – an organisation for human spirituality". It was claimed that this humanitarian and spiritual organisation was being harassed by a mob of xenophobes, chauvinists and criminals from "reactionary groups".

The report prepared by a group of experts explains how their intervention ultimately forced the government to ban this 'anti-social pseudo religious cult." According to the report :

"At this time of unrest, we gave two interviews to the media, explaining calmly in simple terms that not only was Sanatan a pseudo-psychologica l spiritual cult, but that it was also engaged in highly damaging mental manipulation, presenting grave danger for people's mental health, their dignity and their fundamental rights, exploiting people's weaknesses and ignorance. Sanatan lies dangerously through its mask of the promise of spiritual and mental development. With its "spiritual practices", this cult in fact prepares its victim followers for antisocial and terrorist acts. While praising the Lord, they train themselves up for assassinating "criminals" chosen through "their inner feelings and subtle signs" under the guidance of the guru. This is an exceptionally dangerous doctrine for the individuals, their lives, the human rights in general and fundamental social balance.

Our public conclusion was to officially call upon the State Prosecutor to give an indictment after a serious and thorough investigation.
Some time later, for the first time in Serbia, an obviously anti-social pseudo-psychologica l cult was banned. The Minister for Human and Minority Rights banned Sanatan, Spiritual Science."(Marseilles, March 27-28 2004)

IV.

Pussifooting in Dealing With Hindutva Extremists ?

In his recent writeup in Economic and Political Weekly, (which talks about recent arrest of Kobad Ghandy recently,) Sumanta Banerjee discusses "..[I]ndian state's dual policy of pussyfooting in dealing with Hindu religious extremists on the one hand and trampling down on the dissenters upholding the cause of the poorer classes on the other." (Two Parallel Narratives, October 31, 2009)

Discussing the "..deliberate design in this lopsided reversal of priorities of the Indian state" it tells us that "it is surely not mere oversight that the political ideologues of the Sangh Parivar - leaders like Pramod Muthalik, Bal Thackeray, Vinay Katiyar, Praveen Togadia, who openly preach violence against relgious minorities and secular forces - are seldom touched by the police. The Indian state winks at them - since they pose a threat only to the minority community section of the population, whose interestes have already been sacrificed by the politicians at the altar of majoritarian nationalism."

As things stand today, it is just a matter of time when the Goa blasts would be forgotten much on the lines of Nanded blasts or Kanpur blasts (August 2008) and similar other blasts involving Hindutva terrorists.Perhaps a much bigger tragedy would awaken us from our selective amnesia vis-a-vis terrorism of the Hindutva kind.

Bismillahir Rahmaanir Raheem
Assalaamu alaikum warahmatullahi wabrakaatuh,

InshaAllah Azzawajal the Q&A below will clear out many doubts about usage of different types of Alcohol in perfumes & food stuff etc... Jazaakumullah u khair...

Wassalaam

Q1: what is SD alcohol 38-B?

SYED RASHEEDUDDIN AHMED: Special Denatured alcohol is the ethyl alcohol to which chemicals are added to denatured it. It is considered Halal because it is denatured.

Q2: Is Ethyl Alcohol halal or haram?

SYED RASHEEDUDDIN AHMED: Ethyl alcohol is not considered Halal. It is used as a solvent for the natural or artificial flavor used in Nestle chocolate in UK. The flavor is added at 1 to 2% of the formula. Some scientists said that it is evaporated during baking but there is no scientific proof exist. On the other hand USDA ran a test with adding alcohol to food recipe baked in the oven for several minutes and found out not all alcohol is evaporated, some recipe contains 40%. The liberal ulema considered this minute amount is not sufficient to intoxicate, so including ulema from Saudi Arabia and their Govt. allow about 0.05% left over alcohol in the foods. This is the reason you find several European brands product with alcohol as a solvent in Mecca Shareef and Madinah Shareef supermarkets (Alert: on our web site www.muslimconsumerg roup.com). Other ulema and Muslim Consumer Group organization do not considered alcohol as Halal. We do not Halal certify any product containing alcohol but some other Halal certifying organizations do Halal certify food products containing alcohol.

Q3: I read that cocoa beans are fermented to make cocoa. wouldn’t that mean cocoa, chocolate, etc have alcohol in them?

SYED RASHEEDUDDIN AHMED: In many fermentation alcohol is not produced such as pickle fermetation and lactic acid fermentation. There is no literature indicating that cocoa bean fermentation produced alcohol.

Q4: Would the Vitamin D derived from sheep's wool be halal for consumption?

SYED RASHEEDUDDIN AHMED: Vitamin D or Lanolin alcohol obtained from sheep wool is Halal because the wool is obtained while sheep is still alive. Every part of wool is considred Halal.

Q5: behenyl alcohol; Is this ingridiant halal i found it in a shampoo.

SYED RASHEEDUDDIN AHMED: behenyl alcohol is a fatty alcohol obtained from natural fats and oils. If it is obtained from vegetable oils the it is Halal but if it is obtained from pork fat then it is Haram.

Q6: Is that true that vanilinic acid contains alcohol?

SYED RASHEEDUDDIN AHMED: Vanilla Extract in USA is a standard product set by FDA. According to FDA it must contain a minumum of 35% alcohol otherwise it will not considered as a Vanilla Extract. It is liquid product which can be dehydrated to powder. It is a flavorant obtained by extracting vanillin from Vanilla bean (a plant product) in alcohol. It is considered as a Haram ingredient

Q7: Since alcohol is used in some medicens is it halal to use this product even though it might contain ingredients from a prok source?

SYED RASHEEDUDDIN AHMED: Any product with alcohol and gelatin from pork or non zabiha beef is not considred Halal. There is Halal alternative available in all supermarkets for Laxative. It is either pitted prune fruit or Sunsweet Prune Juice (available also in Wal-Mart) which will the do the same job as Haram Laxative.

Q8: IS NON-ALCOHOLIC BEER HALAL. WHAT I GATHERED FROM WEBSITE WWW.KOSHARCONSUMER. ORG, SOME HARAM ANIMAL INGREDIENT IS USED IN THE MANIUFACTURE OF BEER TO GIVE IT DESIRED TASTE.

SYED RASHEEDUDDIN AHMED: Non-Alcohol beer is made from alcohol containing beer by removing the alcohol but flavor obtained from fermentation remains in the non alcoholic beer. Not 100% alcohol is removed from the beer. Ulema do not considered a food product Halal if it is made with alcohol and then alcohol is removed. This is different from baking Naan or white bread where during proofing minute amount of alcohol is produced but evaporated in oven. Naan is considered Halal for centuries becuase man do not add alcohol while making it. Over ripe fruits are also contain small amount of alcohol but fruits are Halal. All Non-Alcoholic beverages are not considered Halal because it is made with alcohol and some alcohol is left over. It is not chemically changed to a new thing just like Distilled white vinegar where alcohol is chemically changed to acetic acid and water by bacteria.

Q9: As muslims, we are prohibited to drink intoxicants but does this prohibition also apply to items of personal use containing alcohol, such as deodorant and perfume? Are there more than one viewpoints on this issue?

SYED RASHEEDUDDIN AHMED: I am not a Islamic scholar but what I heard was that we are not suppose to have perfumes containing alcohol while performing Salat. This is the reason most of the Eter (Perfumes) in Middle East is alcohol free. It said on the bottle.

Q10: I want to know if I can cook or bake with vanilla extract, vanillin, aritficial vanilla flavor or vanilla essence. I have something called vanilla essence. It's ingredients are : water, propylene glycol, atrifical vanilla flavor, caramel coloring, cirtic acid and sodium benzoate as a preserver. Is this halal to use?

SYED RASHEEDUDDIN AHMED: The Vanilla extract has 35% alcohol and it is Haram. The vanilla flavoring has vinillin which might have alcohol as a solvent but not mentioned in the label. Your best bet to use McCormic 100% Halal Vanilla beans which are available at spice counter in every supermarkets.

Q11: My question is about some antiseptic mouthwash I recently purchased. It's ingredients consisted of some SD Alcohol 38-F. On the website of Google, it said that the SD standed for Specially Denaturalized. SD Alcohol is made by 1000 gallons of alcohol mixed together with 7 lbs. of boric acid. Now my question is that if the mouthwash with the SD Alcohol 38-F is halal for Muslims and what is meant by denaturing of alcohol by this method.

SYED RASHEEDUDDIN AHMED: Specially Denatured Alcohol is made by adding toxic chemicals such as boric acid and others to ethyl alcohol to denatured it quality of intoxicating the nervous system. It is Halal on the basis no alcohol is distilled out from the SD Acohol. Usually only those toxic chemicals are adde to alcohol which do not left any alcohol in the solution. SD Alcohol is considered Halal but FDA do not allowed it to be used in food because of its toxicity.

Q12: Jello-O Pudding does not contain gelatin (as stated under the ingredients) . Would it be halal to consume ?

AHMED SAKR: As long that there is no Gelatin in the ingredients, it is Halal to consume.

SYED RASHEEDUDDIN AHMED: Jell-O Instant pudding pie filling is dry pudding mix and it has flavors in its ingredients, it is Halal only if no alcohol is used in flavor, it is Kosher certified product .

Q13: sugarless chewing gum contains phenylaline, which contains one type of alcohol?
Anytime you see a product which says Phenylkneutronics: contains Phenylaline, then completely avoid it.

SYED RASHEEDUDDIN AHMED: Phenylaline is one of the amino acid and it is not a alcohol. Only ethanol or ethyl alcohol is Haram, other alcohol such as sugar alcohol do not intoxicate any body.

Q14: I want to ask about SD Alcohol 40 usually used in perfumes and some mouth washes? Is it permissisble to wear perfumes with SD Alcohol 40 in them, an also can you please explain about the use of mouth washes with this type of alcohol?

SYED RASHEEDUDDIN AHMED: In cosmatic & pharmeceutical industry, FDA allows to denature ethyl alcohol by adding poisoneous chemical such as benzene etc. or other chemical so that the eyhyl alcohol loose its quality to intoxicate, when you eleiminate this quality, the product becomes Halal just as alcohol is connverted to vinegar. So SD Alacohol is Halal but I do not thinks any mouth wash is Halal except Tom of Maine.

Q15: Can you please explain about the usage of Root Beer and Cream Soda

SYED RASHEEDUDDIN AHMED: Regarding root beer, It is a carbonted soft drink containing the extract from the roots of certain plant. Cream soda was in India/Pakistan for atleast 100 years and they used to drink for digestion or upset stamoch. If these products are made with Halal or kosher certified ingredients and do not contain any alcohol as a solvent in natural or artificial flavors and no alcohol was used in extracting flavor from roots of certain plants, no artificial immitating flavor was added as to immitate beer then they are Halal. I could not find any root beer or cream soda drinks with kosher symbol.

Q16: Is wine and beer Haram (unlawful) or Makrooh (discouraged, hated)?
AHMED SAKR: Wine and beer are alcoholic products. They are processed by fermentation of food materials. They contain 4-1/2% alcohol. From an Islamic point of view, both of these products are totally Haram (prohibited and unlawful).

SYED RASHEEDUDDIN AHMED: Any alcoholic beverages including wine and beer are Haram in Islam, which causes intoxication to a person.

Q17: We were told that Pepsi-Cola does contain pepsin from the pig stomach. Is it true? And if it is so, it should be Haram (unlawful) to drink it.

SYED RASHEEDUDDIN AHMED: Pepsi-cola according to company do not contain animal derived ingredients and alcohol. Pepsi-Cola is made with use of carbon dioxide through carbonation process and there is no pepsin in Pepsi-cola.

What To Do If You Are NOT Going For Hajj ?

At the Kaaba

Adapted from: Perfect days for perfect Ibaadah

By Asma bint Shameem

The first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah are the most beloved to Allah.

The Prophet testified to that. He said: There are no days in which righteous deeds are more beloved to Allah than these ten days.” (Bukhaari)

WHAT ACTIVITIES IN THESE 10 DAYS WILL BRING THE REWARD OF JANNAH?

Obviously, Hajj is one of the best deeds that one can do during these ten days. However for those of us who were not invited to His House this year, there are still many, good deeds that one can do and earn the Pleasure of Allah.

Some of these are:

1) Fast all nine days and especially fast the Day of Arafah

The Prophet (PBUH) said: Anyone who fasts for one day for Allah’s pleasure, Allah will keep his face away from the (Hell) fire for (a distance covered by a journey of) seventy years. (Bukhari, Muslim)

The Prophet (PBUH) used to fast on the ninth day of Dhul-Hijjah and he said: Fasting the Day of Arafah (ninth Dhul-hijjah) is an expiation for (all the sins of) the previous year and an expiation for (all the sins of) the coming year.” (Muslim)

2) Do a LOT of Dhikr and Takbeer

The Prophet (PBUH) said: “There are no days on which good deeds are greater or more beloved to Allah than on these ten days”, so recite much Tahleel (saying Laa ilaaha ill-Allaah), Takbeer (saying Allahu akbar) and Tahmeed (saying al-hamdu Lillaah).” (Ahmad -Saheeh)

Ibn Umar and Abu Hurayrah used to go out in the marketplace during the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah, reciting Takbeer, and the people would recite Takbeer when they heard them. (Bukhaari)

Takbeer at this time is a Sunnah. So recite it in the masjid, in your home, on the street and every place where it is permitted to remember Allah.

Revive the Sunnah that have been virtually forgotten and earn great rewards for doing so.

The Prophet said: Whoever revives an aspect of my Sunnah that is forgotten after my death, he will have a reward equivalent to that of the people who follow him, without it detracting in the least from their reward.” (Tirmidhi- a hasan hadeeth)

Men should recite these phrases out loud, and women should recite them quietly.

3) Stand in Night Prayers: (Tahajud, Qiyam al Layl)

Remember the virtues of spending the night in prayer, and its sweetness in Ramadan?

Why not revive this beautiful act of worship during these nights as well?

Remember, how in the last third of every night, Allah Almighty calls out to us, His servants:Is there anyone to invoke Me, so that I may respond to his invocation? Is there anyone to ask Me, so that I may grant him his request? Is there anyone seeking My forgiveness, so that I may forgive him? (Bukhaari, Muslim)

Why do we miss this golden opportunity? So, seize the chance NOW and expose yourself to His Divine Generosity and Mercy, ask Him to forgive you and guide you and set things aright. He will surely listen.

4) Make Sincere Repentance.

One of the most important action during these ten days is to repent sincerely to Allah and to give up all kinds of disobedience and sin right away because we do not know when we will die and thus become unable to repent, and also because one evil deed leads to another.

But what does repentance mean?

It means that you come back to Allah and give up all the deeds, open and secret, that He dislikes…. that you regret whatever you did in the past, giving it up immediately and be determined never ever, to return to it, and resolve to adhere firmly to the Truth by doing whatever Allah loves.

But as for him who repented, believed and did righteous deeds, then he will be among those who are successful.” [Al-Qasas 28:67]

5) Come back to the Quraan

It is time now to dust off your copy of the Quraan and return to its refuge. Make it a daily habit, using these 10 days the beginning of a strong and beautiful relationship with it. Read it with meaning, reflect on it, understand it, and then implement it in your daily life.Remember that reading one letter of the Quraan earns you ten rewards.

In this way, reading Surat Al-Fatihah, which doesn’t take more than two minutes, will give you more than one thousand rewards!

This is on ordinary days, so what about these magnificent days! Certainly the reward will be far greater, Insha Allah.

6) Increase ALL the types of good deeds.

If we are unable to go to Hajj this year, we should occupy ourselves in the worship of Allah; pray extra prayers (Nafilah) recite the Quraan. Make Dhikr of Allah, send Salaams on the Prophet, make dua, give charity, honor our parents, uphold ties of kinship, enjoin what is good and forbid what is evil, and add other good deeds and acts of worship during these days.

So whosoever does good equal to the weight of an atom, shall see it; And whosoever does evil equal to the weight of an atom, shall see it.”

[Al-Zalzalah 99:7-8]

7) Get the reward of Hajj wherever you are:

You may be unable to do Hajj this year, and you may feel sad. However, you can get the reward of it right where you are.The Prophet said: Whoever prays Fajr Prayer in congregation, and then sits and remembers Allah until the sun rises, then (after a while) prays two rakas, he will gain a reward equal to that of making perfect Hajj and Umrah.” [He repeated the word "perfect" thrice.] (At-Tirmidhi)

8. Slaughter an animal and distribute the meat.

Ibn Umar said: The Prophet lived in Madeenah for 10 years and every year he slaughtered an animal.” (Ahmad-Saheeh by al-Albaani)

9) Attend Eid prayers

But remember that Eid prayer is a form of worship and we should avoid unislamic behavior (especially) in dress and in etiquette during these times.

10) Thank Allah.

One of the best forms of worshipping Allah Subhaanahu wa Taala is to thank Him, deeply, sincerely and continuously.

Alhamdulillah, there is much to be gained in these coming days. Hasten to do good deeds and striving hard in worship .

And worship your Lord until there comes unto you the certainty (death).”

[Al-Hijr 15:99]

There was this beautiful woman, who wanted to get married, but she wanted a very pious husband, so she said that shell marry the man who recites the
whole Quran every single day, fasts for the whole year and stays awake and worships Allah all throughout the night.

She was a very beautiful woman, and a lot of suitors wanted to marry her, but they knew they couldnt fulfill the conditions she set. Until this one man stepped forward and said he could fulfill them. So the Imam got both of them married.

After the first night of the marriage, the wife sees that the husband doesnt recite the whole of the Quran, nor does he fast, nor does he stay awake in the worship of Allah, She decided to let it roll on for a few weeks to see if there were any changes, there werent, so she filed a complaint and asked for a divorce.......

They are both taken in front of the judge, and the judge asked, What were the conditions of the marriage? the Man replied They were for me to recite the whole Quran daily, keep fast for the whole year and to worship Allah all throughout the night.

The Judge asked, did you fulfill them? The man calmly answered, yes.

The judge answers, you lie, your wife has said that you dont, thats why shes asking for a divorce.

But the man insisted that he had fulfilled the conditions, so the judge asked, did you recite the full Quran every day? The man answered yes. The Judge, baffled asked, how? How can you do that? The man coolly answered, I recite Surah Ikhlas three times a day and according to Prophet Muhammad , reciting Surah Ikhlas three times is equivalent to reciting the whole Quran.

The Judge was intrigued, so he asked, how did you fast the whole year? The man answered, I fasted for the whole month of Ramadan, then kept another Six fasts in the month of Shawwal, according to Prophet Muhammad , keeping all of the fast of Ramadan then keeping six fasts in the month of Shawwal, is as if you have fasted for the whole year.

The Judge remained silent, he couldnt give a reply saying the man was wrong, so finally he asked, how did you stay awake all night and worship Allah, when your wife saw you sleeping? The Judge thought the man wouldnt be able to answer this one, but the man, cool as a cucumber answered, I prayed Salatul Isha with jamaat, then the next day prayed Salatul Fajr with jamaat, according to Prophet Muhammad, the one who prays Salatul Isha and Salatul Fajr with jamaat, it is as if he had stayed up all night worshipping Allah.

The Judge sat there looking at the man; the final verdict was about to be released

He said to the man and his wife, go, just go, there is nothing wrong with this marriage

Moral of the Story-

Islam is not hard, its great < And We have indeed made the Quran easy to understand and remember; then is there any one who will remember (or receive admonition)?----Surah: Al-Qamar (54): Ayah # 17 >

Fatwas on Halaal humor/Writing Bismillah on wedding cards/Wearing a mask/Haj with a loan

Halaal humor

Q- As long as we are not mocking the religion, are we permitted in Islam to make jokes?

A – As long as you are truthful in your humor, and as long as you do not go to excesses, humor, witticisms, and jokes are permitted in Islam. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) showed humor, but he would only speak the truth. But if you lie when you make a joke, remember this Hadith: “Woe to him who tells lies so that others may laugh...woe to him, and again woe to him.” (Abu Dawood, no. 4990; Al-Tirmidhi, no. 2315)

– Sheikh Abdul Aziz Bin Baz; Fatawa Islamiyah, vol. 8, pg. 291

Writing Bismillah on wedding cards

Q- What is the ruling on writing Bismillah on wedding invitation cards, bearing in mind that they will be thrown in the streets or in waste paper baskets?

A – Writing Bismillah on cards and other messages is allowed, based upon the narration from the Prophet in which he said: “Any important matter which does not start with Bismillah is a matter which is cut of (from every good thing).” (Irwa-ul-Ghalil, 1/29)

The Prophet (peace be upon him) used to begin his letters with the Bismillah. It is not permissible for one who receives a card or letter in which Allah’s Name, or a Qur’anic verse is mentioned to throw it in the rubbish or refuse, or to put it in an undesirable place. Likewise, it is not permissible to abuse newspapers and other such things, or throw them in the rubbish, nor to use them as eating mats for food, nor as wrappers for things due to the fact that they contain the mention of Allah’s Name, the Almighty, the All-Powerful and because doing that involves sin. As for the writer, there is no sin upon him.

Sheikh Abdul Aziz Bin Baz; Fatawa Islamiyah, vol. 5, pg. 308

Wearing a mask

Q- Is it permissible for the pilgrim in ihram to wear a mask?

A – In cases of necessity, there is nothing wrong with the pilgrim in ihram wearing a mask, such as if he has an allergy in his nose and he needs to wear a mask, or if he is passing through thick smoke and needs to wear a mask, or he is passing by a smell and needs to wear a mask. There is nothing wrong with that.

– Sheikh Bin Uthaymeen, Majmoo Fatawa, 22/130, pg. 131

Haj with a loan

Q- I want to perform Haj to the Sacred House of Allah, but I do not have what will suffice me for that. The place where I work agreed to give me a loan to cover the expenses of the Haj, which is to be repaid by deductions from my salary afterwards. Is this acceptable?

A – It is acceptable that you do this. If you perform Haj with money that you borrowed, indeed it is accepted. However, it is better and more appropriate that you do not do this, because Allah has only made Haj obligatory on whoever is able to find a way thereto, and right now you are not able to do that.

You should not take out a loan. For you do not know – maybe you will take out a loan, and the debt will remain under your responsibility, and then you will not be able to repay it afterwards. You may become ill or you may not be able to get a job in the field that you work in or you may die. Therefore, you should not take a loan. Whenever Allah gives you wealth you and you are able to get some wealth with which you can perform Haj, then do so. If not, then do not take the loan.

– Sheikh Abdul Aziz Bin Baz; Fatawa Islamiyah, vol. 4, pg. 63

Woman and the display of body

Posted by: "Shahzad Warsi" warsishah1@...   warsishah1

Sun Nov 8, 2009 9:31 am (PST)

Woman and the display of body

Describing women who are morally decayed. The prophet Mohammed (PBUH) said that they are "women dressed but naked, corrupt and corrupters, their hairs are like the inclined hump of female camel, they do not enter the Heaven nor smell its fragrance" [Refer to Abu Daud]  the prophet also said "the prayer of a mistreating woman is not acceptable until she purifies her self" [Refer to Imam Ahmed, Abu Daud & Ibn Maja].

The modern scientific researches confirmed that the nakedness of women, their body displaying & their moving in an obscene shape id a disaster on them. The current statistics showed that there is a clear spread of the malignant cancer which affects the naked and displayed part of the women bodies particularly those women who dress short clothes.

It was published in the British Medical Magazine that "the melanoma malignant cancer which was one of the most rare cancers is now spreading among women. The cases of this type of cancer is increasing among young women. It affects their legs. The medical publication went on saying that the main cause behind the spread of short dress & fashions which expose the body of women to the rays & light of the sun. Moreover, the transparent dress and legs gloves do not help in avoiding this type of cancer.

The Medical Magazine appealed to the environment doctors to participate in collecting information about this type of cancer, because it is becoming an epidemic phenomenon. This reminds us with the Quranic sign which says in the tongue of the obstinate unbeliever

"O God, if this is indeed The Truth from Thee, Rain down on us a shower of stones from the sky, or send us a grievous penalty" [8:32]

Now to torture has come down in the form of a malignant cancer. It is caused by the exposition of women's body to the sunrays and ultraviolet rays for a long time it affects the whole body but with different proportion. Initially, it appears as a dark; small spot on either the foot or the leg, and some times in the eye. Then it spreads all over the body. It attacks the lymph knots at the upper part of the thigh. It also attacks blood and invades the liver & destroys it. It may settle in all the organs of the body such as bones, the belly & perhaps the kidneys. If it attacks the kidneys then the patient will experience black urine as a result of inner destruction of the kidneys. It may get transferred to the child in the womb of his mother.

However, this disease does not allows its patient to survive for a long time & it does not respond to surgical treatment like other types of cancers nor it responds to treatment by rays sessions like some other types of cancers.

Therefore have we realized the wisdom behind Islamic legislation which aimed to protect women not only from passers by but also from a skin disease called cancer. The subject Islamic legislation called upon women to corner their bodies properly & with loose and not narrow and not transparent clothes.

Therefore, Islamic uniform for women protect them from physical diseases, from teasing in the streets & from the torture of life on the judgement day.

In the name of Allah, the Most-Merciful, the All-Compassionate

"May the Peace and Blessings of Allah be Upon You"

Praise be to Allaah, we seek His help and His forgiveness. We seek refuge with Allaah from the evil of our own souls and from our bad deeds. Whomsoever Allaah guides will never be led astray, and whomsoever Allaah leaves astray, no one can guide. I bear witness that there is no god but Allaah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.

Bismillah Walhamdulillah Was Salaatu Was Salaam 'ala Rasulillah
As-Salaam Alaikum Wa-Rahmatullahi Wa-Barakatuhu

Are you jealous of what others have?
By Shawana A. Aziz

Hasad (jealousy and envy) is among the most destructive emotions which a man may develop toward his fellow human being.

With Hasad, a person will wish evil for others and will be happy when misfortune befalls them.

The Prophet (peace be upon him) warned against envy by comparing it to fire that completely burns the wood.

He (peace be upon him) said: “Beware of jealousy, for verily it destroys good deeds the way fire destroys wood.” (Abu Dawood)

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “There has come to you the disease of the nations before you, jealousy and hatred. This is the "shaver" (destroyer); I do not say that it shaves hair, but that it shaves (destroys) faith…” (Al-Tirmidhi, No. 2434)

Hasad can take a person into disbelief because he may conclude that Allah has not been fair with him, while Allah is the Most Just.

The person may forget all of Allah’s mercy and blessings bestowed upon him.
The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said:
“They are enemies of Allahs bounties.”
When asked, “Who are they?”,
he replied: “Those who envy people for what Allah has given them of Bounty.”
(At-Tabarani)

Allah through His Absolute Wisdom gave some people more wealth, intelligence, beauty, strength, and children than others. Discontentment comes from the slaves ignorance of his Lord. If he recognizes his Lord with the attributes of Perfection, he would not be discontent and as a result would not develop Hasad. A believing Muslim should be content with what Allah has destined for him.

Imam Ibn Qayyim said: “It (contentment) opens the door of peace and security for the slave.”
Allah favored some of you over others with wealth and properties… Do they deny the favors of Allah?” (Quran, 16:71)

Do they envy men for what Allah has given them of His Bounty?” (Quran, 4:54)

It is We Who portion out between them their livelihood in this world, and We raised some of them above others in ranks, so that some may employ others in their work. But the mercy of your Lord is better.” (Quran, 43:32)

This means that the mercy of Allah is better than the convenience of the world.

Material things of this life do not make one superior over another.
True superiority lies in Taqwa (righteousness and fear of Allah).
Allah said: “Surely, the most noble of you to Allah is the most God-fearing.”
(Quran, 49:13)

And the Hereafter with Your Lord is (only) for those who have Taqwa.”
(Quran, 43:35)

What belongs to the transient world is of no significance at all before Allah. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “If this world were worth a mosquitos wing before Allah, He would not give a disbeliever a drink of water.” (Al-Tirmidhi)

In order to discourage envy, the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “Do not look to those above you. Look to those below you, as it will more likely remind you of Allahs favors bestowed on you.”
(Al-Bukhari and Muslim)

On another occasion, he said: “If one of you looks at someone wealthier and better built than him, he should also look at someone of lower standard than himself.” (Sahih Muslim)

Good Envy

What Islam permits in contrast to Hasad (destructive jealousy) is Ghibtah (envy that is free from malice). It means that a person neither wishes for misfortune to fall on others nor does he hate the blessings with them. He desires for similar blessings without having any ill-feeling toward others.

The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: “Envy is allowed in two cases: a man whom Allah has given the Quran and who recites it throughout night and day; and a man on whom Allah has bestowed wealth who gives it away night and day.” (Al-Bukhari and Muslim)

The Prophet (peace be upon him) also explained what is allowed to be said: “I wish I were given what he was given and did with it what he did.”

The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: “The similitude of the people of this Ummah is like that of four individuals. One whom Allah has given wealth and knowledge, so he handles his wealth with knowledge.
One whom Allah has given knowledge but not wealth, and he says, "Lord, should I have wealth like so-and-so, I would have handled it like him."
So they both have the same reward. Such a person loves to have wealth like others so he can do good like others without wishing that others lose their wealth.

“Another man whom Allah gave wealth but no knowledge spends it in disobedience to Allah. And last, a man whom Allah has not given knowledge or wealth but who says, ‘Should I have wealth like so-and-so, I would spend it in the way he does.’ So, both will have the same sin against them.” (Al-Tirmidhi and Ibn Majah) – As-Sunnah

BAREFOOT

The end of one life: Ishrat Jehan

HARSH MANDER

The story of a fake encounter and how it shattered one family’s hope of leading a dignified life…

The police cover-up was clumsy and ham-handed, the forensic evidence crystal clear, but no court had until then chosen to look this ugly and explosive truth in the face.

PHOTO: VIVEK BENDRE

Vindicated: Ishrat Jehan’s mother Shameera, brother Anwar and sister Mussarat.

Ishrat Jehan was barely 17 when her father died from a brain tumour, leaving behind a large bereaved family in a small rented apartment in Mumra, a Mumbai suburb. Ishrat was not the eldest of the six children, but she was the brightest and most respo nsible. Still in high school, she started tuitions for children of the neighbourhood. The fees the children gave her became the main source of survival for the closely knit family.

Ishrat entered college for a bachelor’s degree in science. She would cook breakfast for the family, rush to college, and return to teach two batches of children. Their mother Shameema spent most of her day at the sewing machine, stitching zari borders to saris. They owned no television, and were not allowed to watch films or even to visit friends. They were busy just in the business of everyday living: content in their routine of studying, working, dreaming; hardly aware of the world outside their home.

Hard days

The summer months after school examinations were the hardest for the family, because school children were on holiday, and none came to Ishrat for tuitions. In March 2004, some relatives introduced the family to a middle-aged man Javed, who was looking for help with marketing and accounts for his perfume business. He would pay 3,500 rupees a month. It would also involve some out-station visits, for which he would pay extra. With seven mouths to feed, her mother had little option but to allow Ishrat to accept the employment, for the lean summer months. Ishrat made two short visits to Pune and Lucknow. On June 11, she left on her last out-station assignment. Her brother left her at the bus stand. Javed was to meet her at Nasik, from where they were to travel by car to other cities.

On the evening of June 16, a group of young strangers visited their home. They asked them: Have you not heard the news? Don’t you watch television? The visitors initially said they were from Ishrat’s college, and they needed her passport photograph for her college forms. Around 8 at night they finally broke the terrible news. They were journalists. Ishrat had been killed in a police encounter. She was charged with a conspiracy to kill Modi. Television channels were broadcasting the sensational news all day. They needed her photograph to flash on television.

The cold dread and shock of Ishrat’s family was matched only by their utter bewilderment. The younger children had not even heard of Modi. None of them knew what an ‘encounter’ was. And they could not believe that their beloved Ishrat was suddenly dead, and branded a terrorist. She was just 19.

But they had no time even to grieve.

By 9 p.m., police came to their home, evacuated and sealed the house, and drove the entire terrified family to the police station. Throngs of journalists and television cameras had by then crowded outside their home. The police dropped them back at 2.30 a.m. Their house was sealed. Shameera and the children sat sleepless the whole night at a nearby shop.

By morning, the journalists had grown virtually into a mob. A team of women policemen arrived, opened the seal of the house, and searched it, roughly throwing out the contents of cupboards, stripping the beds, over-turning all their furniture.

Ishrat’s mother then was driven to Ahmedabad by some sympathetic neighbours, to collect her daughter’s body. She was grilled and abused by the senior police officials there. Finally they gave her the body — stiff, bloodied, defaced with bullet wounds. The assembled media went wild with their cameras and questions. Back in the Mumbai suburb Mumra, they were stunned when literally tens of thousands of people attended the funeral; all their faces were grim and strained, as though for each it was a personal loss.

Continuing harassment

In a few weeks, the media forgot about them, but the police did not. The neighbours were initially helpful, but if anyone tried to assist the family, they were soon summoned for questioning and harassed by the police for sympathy to terrorists. The family was soon left almost alone. “There were times when we wondered why we were still alive”, her sister Mussarat recalls. ‘Why were we being punished?’

They moved into a new rented house, but the mundane business of feeding now six mouths, without their father and Ishrat, loomed over their lives. Mussarat dropped out of studies, and helped her mother in sewing. Young Anwar also sewed, and started holding computer classes. Not everyone abandoned them, and there were a few in the local community who collected money for them once in a while, to help them survive.

They also assisted Shameera to file a petition in the Gujarat High Court seeking a CBI enquiry into the deaths. But the case remained dormant. Then in 2006 unexpected glimmerings of hope were lit. Their friends came with the news that the same Gujarat police officers led by Vanazara, involved in Ishrat’s death, had been jailed for the killing of Sohrabuddin and his wife in another ‘fake encounter’.

Shameera wrote a letter to the Chief Justice of the Gujarat High Court, that she wanted to know who the killers of her daughter were. They did not hear from the Court. Shameera persisted, aided by human rights lawyers Vrinda Grover and Mukul Sinha. Javed’s father filed a petition in 2007. Two years later he was advised to go to the Supreme Court.

As these superior courts prevaricated, an unknown junior metropolitan magistrate S.P. Tamang, responsible for conducting what is almost always an utterly routine statutory enquiry into the encounter killings, stood tall, bravely affirming justice and truth. He examined the forensic reports and statements, and in a lucid and tightly argued report on September 7, 2009, stunned everyone by concluding that the police version of how the killings occurred was an ‘absolutely false and concocted story’.

The police had charged that Ishrat was a Lashkar-e-Toiba activist, who drove into Ahmedabad with three other terrorists, in a plot to kill Chief Minister Modi. The police was tipped off, and chased their vehicle, and fired into the car tyre, forcing it to halt. The terrorists are then said to have alighted from the car, and fired relentlessly at the police vehicle. In self-defence, the police finally felled all four in a fierce gun battle.

Official cover-up

Magistrate Tamang analysed the post-mortem and forensic evidence, to conclude irrefutably that Ishrat and the three men were actually killed several hours before the alleged shoot-out, from close range. The police had then taken their bodies to the roadside, fired themselves on their police jeep, and planted an AK 47 weapon in the hands of one of the dead men, and explosives in their car.

It was cold blooded murder by the police, including of an innocent 19-year-old college girl. The police cover-up was clumsy and ham-handed, the forensic evidence crystal clear, but no court had until then chosen to look this ugly and explosive truth in the face. This is what Tamang did.

Ishrat’s family received the news with complete disbelief, and then a poignant sense of elation, as they distributed sweets. The grim report confirmed the brutal circumstances in which their beloved Ishrat was killed. But it also cleared her name, and identified her killers to be men in uniform. The family could emerge at last from the dense darkness of isolation and stigma of the last five years, which they thought would never end. After these long years, they could once again step out of their homes with their heads high. They could begin to live, and hope again. This hope was fragile, frail, tentative…

But still it was hope.

Prophet's Reminder: "The major sins are to believe that Allah has partners, to disobey one's parents, to commit murder, and to bear false witness" (Bukhari and Muslim).

Quran Today:
"...if any one slew a person - unless it be for murder or for spreading mischief in the land - it would be as if he slew the whole humanity: and if any one saved a life, it would be a as if he saved the life of the entire humanity" (5:32).

Assalamu Alaikum

I was stunned and saddened to hear the news that an American Muslim mental health professional serving in the army had allegedly killed over a dozen people and injured more than 30 at Fort Hood base in Texas yesterday.

My immediate thoughts went to the families of those killed. Their pain, suffering and anguish.

There are thousands of American Muslim physicians, nurses and other health professionals in this country who have devoted themselves to saving lives everyday, something that will never be reported in the New York Times or on Fox News. I also thought of the thousands of American Muslim soldiers who continue to risk their lives to defend their country, like Karim Rashad Sultan Khan, a young soldier who died in the line of duty. He was mentioned by General Colin Powell during an interview with Meet The Press during the presidential campaign last year.

Also, although it may seem counterintuitive, this is the time to be speak out. Take some time this weekend to send letters to the editor condemning the killings, noting that a number of Muslim organizations as of Thursday evening have already done so (please see links below) and reiterating that American Muslims continue to serve their country daily with pride and honor. Specifically mention the role that physicians and other health professionals, as well as soldiers play.

Also, if you are part of a Muslim organization or involved in your local mosque or Islamic center, send a press release condemning the killings to local media. We have drafted a sample press release that can be used.

Please be extra careful to protect yourselves, your families, your mosques and your communities.

May Allah guide us to His Path of justice, peace and reconciliation.

Here are some other statements of condemnations issued by Muslim organizations across America:

As-Salamu Alaykum (peace be upon you),

BACKBITING

Backbiting, something that is a problem everywhere and that can have detrimental effects on our Ummah and ourselves. So how this is detrimental to us?

On the Day of Judgment our good deeds will be measured against our bad deeds and whichever has the greater balance will effect our outcome on that day.

What does this have to do with sins committed against others?

Allah's Messenger (peace be upon him) as saying:

"Do you know who is poor? They (the Companions) said: A poor man amongst us is one who has neither dirham with him nor wealth. He (peace be upon him) said: The poor of my Ummah would be he who would come on the Day of Resurrection with prayers and fasts and Zakah but (he would find himself bankrupt on that day as he would have exhausted his funds of virtues) since he hurled abuses upon others, brought calumny against others and unlawfully consumed the wealth of others and shed the blood of others and beat others, and his virtues would be credited to the account of one (who suffered at his hand). And if his good deeds fall short to clear the account, then his sins would be entered in (his account) and he would be thrown in the Hell-Fire." [Muslim]

What is being described here is the bankrupt person is the one who runs out of good deeds on the Day of Judgment. How can this be so?

There is a part of the last day where the Muslims will meet on the Sirat (bridge), those that make it across this bridge go to Jannah, those that fall from the bridge will spend at least some time in the Hellfire. On this bridge each will take from the other whatever is outstanding from the previous life. So if a person has done something to harm another, they will take from that person their good deeds to reconcile with that person, so at the end everyone is cleared of outstanding matters, cleansed of their bad doings. Except for those who don't have enough good deeds to give to those who they harmed. As it describes in the Hadith. These will dwell for some time in the Hellfire to cleanse what is left of their sins.

What things are we talking about? You borrowed a pen from someone and you didn't return it, minor but still that person will come to claim what is rightfully theirs. You speak badly about someone or spread lies about them, they will come to collect.. You borrow something and return it in bad condition without apology or replacing what you ruined. You steal from someone. You physically hurt someone. You short change them in a deal. There are some many ways in which we may cause harm or injustice to another person, and unless we sort it out now, in this life it will be sorted out on the Sirat in the form of handing over those good deeds.

How does this all related to the topic of backbiting?

Umar ibn al-Khattab came upon Abu Bakr as-Siddiq pulling his tongue. Umar said to him, "Stop, may Allah forgive you!" Abu Bakr replied, "This has brought me to dangerous places." [Muwatta']

We should be weary of our tongues and what we say. Think about this as an example ... how many times have you or someone else referred to one of your fellow sisters with a remark, "Look at the Hijab, isn't that ghastly" or some such similar comment. It isn't a huge comment, but just like the pen, it will be taken from you in good deeds on the Day of Judgment. We tend to focus on the big bad things we say, or others say without realizing that even the smallest thing will come back to us. And again think for a moment, one such small comment often begins a conversation which grows into worse forms of backbiting and slander.

Allah forbids these acts, as He says in the Quran:

"O you who believe! Avoid much suspicion, in deeds some suspicions are sins. And spy not neither backbite one another. Would one of you like to eat the flesh of his dead brother? You would hate it (so hate backbiting). And fear Allah, verily, Allah is The One Who accepts repentance, Most Merciful" [Noble Quran 49:12]

Can you imagine that backbiting is like eating the flesh of your fellow human being?

Do you understand what backbiting is?

Prophet Mohammad (peace be upon him) said:

"Do you know what backbiting is?" They said, "Allah and His Messenger know best." He then said, "It is to say something about your brother that he would dislike." Someone asked him, "But what if what I say is true?" The Messenger of Allah said, "If what you say about him is true, you are backbiting him, but if it is not true then you have slandered him." [Muslim]

Backbiting is something that you say about a person that they will dislike you to say that is true about them. Even worse is slander because you are adding the addition sin of lying about that person on top of it!!

Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:

"Who protects his tongue from unlawful utterances and his private parts from illegal sexual intercourse, I shall guarantee him entrance into Paradise." [Bukhari and Muslim]

Prophet Mohammad (peace be upon him) also said:

"I asked the Messenger of Allah: Who is the best Muslim? The Messenger of Allah replied, "He is the one from whom Muslims are safe from the evil of his tongue and hands."

Are the Muslims safe from your tongue? Are you checking just what words are coming out of your mouth? Will you be handing out all your good deeds on the Day of Judgment because of what you said?

It is worth taking a stock take of what you say. Reflect upon that fact that the most likely person you say bad things about is most likely the person you would least like to share your good deeds with. Contemplate the effort you put into accumulating good deeds only to open your mouth and blow them all away!!

One last tip on this topic, it is easier to avoid backbiting, gossiping and slandering if you do not listen to such talk. It is also a sin to participate in backbiting by listening to others back bite.

Walk away or change the subject, but don't just sit there and absorb the evil utterances of others.

You Must Be Aware That There Are Matters Which Nullify Your Islam.

PLEASE BE MINDFUL OF THEM.

The First
Associating partners with Allah (Shirk). Allah, the Most High, says, Truly, if anyone associates partners with Allah, Allah will forbid him the Garden and his abode will be the Fire; the wrongdoers will have no helpers.
Calling upon the dead, asking their help, or offering them gifts or sacrifices are all forms of Shirk.

The Second
Setting up intermediaries (amulets, charms, horoscopes, tarot cards) between oneself and Allah, making supplication to them, asking their intercession with Allah, and placing one’s trust in them is unbelief (kufr).

The Third
Anyone who does not consider polytheists (mushrikeen) to be unbelievers, or who has doubts concerning their unbelief, or considers their way to be correct, is himself an unbeliever (kafir).

The Fourth
Anyone who believes any guidance other than the Prophet’s guidance to be more perfect, or a decision other than the Prophet’s decision to be better, is an unbeliever. This applies to those who prefer the rule of Evil (Taghout) to the Prophet’s rule. Some examples of this are:

(a)

To believe that systems and laws made by human beings are better than the Shari’ah of Islam; for example, that the Islamic system is not suitable for the twentieth century, that Islam is the cause of the backwardness of Muslims, or that Islam is a relationship between Allah and the Muslim and should not interfere in other aspects of life.

(b)

To say that enforcing the punishments prescribed by Allah, such as cutting off the hand of a thief or stoning an adulterer is not suitable in this day and age.

(c)

To believe that it is permissible to give a rule from that which Allah did not reveal in Islamic transactions or matters of law, punishments or other affairs. Although one may not believe such rulings to be superior to the Shari’ah he in effect affirms such a stand by declaring a thing which Allah has totally prohibited, such as adultery, drinking alcohol or usury, to be permissible. According to the consensus of Muslims, one who declares such things to be permissible is an unbeliever (kafir).

The Fifth
Anyone who hates any part of what the Messenger of Allah (peace be on him) has declared to be lawful has nullified his Islam, even though he may act in accordance with it. Allah the Most High, says: Because they disliked what Allah has revealed. their deeds are brought to nothing.

The Sixth
Anyone who ridicules any aspect of the religion of the Messenger of Allah (peace be on him), or any of its rewards or punishments, becomes an unbeliever. Allah. the Most High, says: Say: Do you ridicule Allah, His revelations and His Messenger? Make no excuse; you have disbelieved after your (profession of) faith.

The Seventh
The practice of magic included in this is causing a rift between a husband and wife by turning his love for her into hatred, or tempting a person to do things he dislikes by using black arts. One who engages in such a thing or is pleased with it is outside the pale of Islam. Allah the Most High, says, The two (angels, Harut and Marut) did not teach anyone (magic) without warning them, ‘indeed, we are a trial; then do not disbelieve.

The Eighth
Supporting and aiding polytheists against the Muslims. Allah the Most High, says: The one from among you who supports them belongs to them. Truly, Allah does not guide the people who do wrong.

The Ninth
Anyone who believes that some people are permitted to deviate from the Shari’ah of Muhammad (peace be on him) is an unbeliever by the word of Allah, the Most High: If anyone seeks a religion other than al-Islam it will not be accepted from him, and in the Hereafter he will be among the losers.

The Tenth
To turn completely away from the religion of Allah, neither learning its precepts nor acting upon it. Allah the Most High, says: Who does greater wrong than the one who is reminded of the revelations of his Lord and turns away from them. Truly, We shall recompense the guilty, and He also says: But those who disbelieve turn away from that about which they are warned.

N.B: It makes no difference whether such violations are committed as a joke, in seriousness or out of fear, except when they are done under compulsion. We seek refuge in Allah from such deeds as entail His wrath and severe punishment.

Abu Mas'ud 'Uqba ibn 'Amr al-Ansari al-Badri reported that the Messenger of Allah, (PBUH), said, "Anyone who shows the way to something good has the same reward as the person who does it." [Muslim]

E.g. if you encourage someone to go for Salah, or pay Zakat and the person actually goes ahead and prays or pays Zakat, Allah will reward him for the good deeds and at the same time give you (the one that encouraged them to do good) an equal reward as he has given them- without decreasing what he gave them.

So Encourage Other To Do Good And Refrain From Bad Deeds

Trying to spread the message of Islam, as directed by our Holy Prophet Mohammad and his Holy Progeny. May the peace abd blessings of Allah be upon them.
May this reach you in the best of health and strongest of Imaan.
Once there was a very handsome, pious, well educated young man, whose parents emphasized for him to get married. They had seen so many marriage proposals, and he had turned them all down. The parents thought it was becoming a little ridiculous or suspected that he may have someone else in mind.
However every time the parents left the girls house, the young man would always say "she's not the one!" The young man only wanted a girl who was religious and practicing. (Which was hard to find). However one evening his mother arranged for him, to meet a girl, who was religious and practicing.
On that evening, the young man and girl were left to talk and ask each other question (as one would expect). The young man, being a gentleman that, he was allowed, young lady to ask first.
Young girl asked the young man so many questions. She asked about his life, his education, his friends, his family, his habits, his hobbies, his lifestyle, his enjoyment, his time pass, his experiences, his shoe size and his likes and dislikes. Basically everything!
And the young man replied to all of her questions, without tiring and politely with a smile. Young girl took up nearly all of the time, over an hour and felt bad and asked the young man do you have any questions?

Young man said, yes, only have 3 questions...

Young girl thought, wow, only 3 questions okay, go ahead and shoot.
Young man's first question was, (1) Who do you love the most in the world, someone who's love nothing would ever overcome? She said, this is an easy question! Answer to your question is my mother.
Young man smiled and asked second question, (2) You said that you read a lot of Qur'an, could you tell me which Surahs you know the meaning of? Hearing this she went red and embarrassed and said I do not know the meaning of any yet, but I am hoping to soon Inshallah I have just been a bit busy.
The third question the young man asked, was (3) I have been approached for my hand in marriage, by girls that are lot more prettier than you, why should I marry you? Hearing this, the young girl was outraged, she stormed off to her parents with fury and said I do not want to marry this man he is insulting my beauty and intelligence.

And the young man and his parents were once again, left without an agreement of marriage. This time, the young man's parents were really angry and said what did you do to anger that young girl, the family was so nice and pleasant, and they were religious like you wanted. What did you ask the girl? Tell us!
Young man said, firstly I asked her, who do you love the most? She said, her mother. The parents said so, what is wrong with that?
Young man said, "no one, is Muslim, until he
loves Allah (SWT) and his Messenger more than anyone else in the world." If a woman loves Allah (SWT) and Holy Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) more than anyone, she will love me and respect me and stay faithful to me, because of that love and fear for Allah (SWT). And we can share this love, because this love is greater than lust for beauty.

Young man said, then I asked, you read a lot of
Holy Qur'an, can you tell me the meaning of any Surah? And she said no. because I haven't had time yet. So I remembered the saying of Imam Shafi'i, "All humans are dead except those who have knowledge ... And all those who have knowledge are asleep, except those who do good deeds .. And those who do good are deceived, except those who are sincere ... And those who are sincere are always in a state of worry (for others)."
She has lived 20 years on this earth and not found any time, to seek knowledge, why would I marry a woman, who does not know her rights and responsibilities and what will she teach my children, except how to be negligent, because the woman is the Madrasah (school) and the best of teachers. And a woman, who has no time for Allah (SWT), will not have time for her husband.
The third question I asked her was, that a lot of girls, more prettier than her, had approached me for marriage, why should I choose her? That is why she stormed off, getting angry.
Young man's parents said that is a horrible thing to say, why would you do such a thing; we are going back there to apologize. Young man said I said this on purpose, to test whether she could control her anger.

Holy Prophet Muhammad  said "Do not get angry, do not get angry, do not get angry" repeatedly when asked how to become pious, because anger is from Satan.
If a woman cannot control her anger with a stranger she just met, do you think she will be able to control it with her husband?

So, the moral of this story is, a marriage is based on: Knowledge not looks, Practice not preaching, Forgiveness not anger, Spiritual love not lust and compromise!

One should look for a person who (1) Has love for Allah (SWT) and his Messenger (2) Has knowledge of the deen (religion), and can act upon it (3) can control her anger and another important and crucial factor that she be (4) willing to compromise.

And it goes both ways, so women seeking a man, should look for the same things.
May Allah (SWT) make every marriage a success and let us create Love for Allah and his Messenger  so that Allah (SWT) can bless us, and create love in our lives.

There is no better structure founded in Islam other than marriage. Holy Prophet Muhammad

Some lame excuses people use for not going to Hajj

Hajj which is the Fifth Pillar of Islam , we find ways how to postpone it or simply ignore it.

Excuse # 1:

I am too busy with Work

Some people delay Hajj because they say they cant find time to take off from work. But dont they see the very fact that they didnt take time out for Hajj is the reason why Allah kept them so busy with work?

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Allah says: 'Son of Adam: Fill your time with My worship and I will fill your heart with richness, and end off your poverty. But if you don't, I would make your hands fully busy (i.e. in worldly affairs) and I would not end off your poverty.'" [Sunan Ibn Maajah; Musnad Ahmed; Sunan at Tirmidhi, who said that it is a Hasan (good) hadeeth; as quoted in The Creation is in Need of Allah by Dr. Saleh as-Saleh]

And he (peace be upon him) said: Verily Allah tests His servant with what He has given him. So whoever is content with whatever he has been assigned, then Allah will bless him in it, and give him more! But whoever is not content (with what he has been given), then he will not be blessed in it . [Musnad Ahmad (5/24); with an authentic chain, as mentioned in al-Sahihah, Number 1658; as quoted in The True Richness by Shaykh Ab Ammr Yasir al-Qadh]

If you make your intention sincerely for the sake of Allah and do your best to take time from work, Allah will provide it for you. And whosoever fears Allh and keeps his duty to Him, He will make a way for him to get out (from every difficulty). And He will provide him from (sources) he never could imagine. And whosoever puts his trust in Allh, then He will suffice him. Verily, Allh will accomplish his purpose. Indeed Allh has set a measure for all things. [The Noble Quran, Soorah At-Talaq 65:3]

If we dont make time for Allah, how can we expect Him to make time for us?

Excuse # 2:

I am not spiritually ready

Some people say I am not spiritually strong, I am not much of a believer and thus not ready to go or they say I think I should only do Hajj when I have figured out Salah and Zakah and I am practicing Islam fully...

Dont you see? That is the whispering of the Shaytan in your heart. He does not want you to go and earn all the reward and Jannah. Allah, the Most High, says in the Quran, (Ibls) said: "Because You have sent me astray, surely I will sit in wait against them (human beings) on Your Straight Path. Then I will come to them from before them and behind them, from their right and from their left, and You will not find most of them as thankful ones (i.e. they will not be dutiful to You)." [The Noble Quran, Soorah Al-A'raf 7:16 - 17]

Narrated Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him); Allah's Messenger (peace be upon him) said: Iblees places his throne upon water; he then sends detachments (for creating dissension) ; the nearer to him in tank are those who are most notorious in creating dissension. One of them comes and says: I did so and so. And he says: You have done nothing. Then one amongst them comes and says: I did not spare so and so until I sowed the seed of discord between a husband and a wife. The Satan goes near him and says: 'You have done well. A'mash said: He then embraces him. [Saheeh Muslim, Book 039, Number 6755]

All you got to do is to try hard to improve yourself, putting your trust in Him and surely He will guide you. As for those who strive hard in Us (Our Cause), We will surely guide them to Our Paths (i.e. Allh's Religion - Islmic Monotheism). And verily, Allh is with the Muhsinn (good doers). [The Noble Quran, Soorah Al-'Ankabut 29:69]

We all know people who werent fully practicing Muslims prior to making the Hajj, yet once they came back from Hajj they went under this amazing transformation and Alhamdulillah they are now practicing fully. So don't think like that, just go.

And also remember that no one is perfect, we all make errors, but the key is to strive to do our best. Allah, the Most High, says, So keep your duty to Allh and fear Him as much as you can; [The Noble Quran, Soorah At-Taghabun 64:16] Narrated Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him): The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "if I order you to do something, then do of it as much as you can." [Saheeh Bukhaari, Volume 9, Book 92, Number 391; Saheeh Muslim, Book 007, Number 3095]

Excuse # 3:

Yeah, InshaAllah next year..next year..then next year

SubhanAllah, some people have no excuse not to go for Hajj. Yet when you ask them when they are going for hajj, they say yeah, InshaAllah next year. But somehow that next year never comes.

Dont be like those people. Make your intention to go for Hajj NOW. Dont even wait till tomorrow. Do it now and prepare for this journey, while you have the ability. For you never know when death will overtake you or some other trial may befall you that will unable you to go. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, Make the most of five things before five (other things happen): your life before you die, your good health before you become sick; your free time before you become busy; your youth before you grow old; and your wealth before you become poor. [al-Haakim; Classed as Saheeh (authentic) by Sheikh al Albaani in Saheeh wa Daeef al-Jaami al-Sagheer. Also refer to Saheeh al-Jaami, no. 1077]

Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) once stood at the head of a grave and said to his companion, If he had a chance to return to this life, what do you think he would do? His companion replied, He would do nothing but good deeds. Ali then said, If it is not going to be him, then let it be you. [As quoted in Portrait of a Traveller by Muhammad al Shareef]

And some scholars say that if you make sincere intention, but die before you can perform Hajj (or any other good deed), InshaAllah you will still get the reward. There are many evidences for this, for example, Narrated Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him); The Messenger of Allah (peace he upon him) said: Whoever seeks martyrdom with sincerity shall get its reward, though he may not achieve it. And in a similar narration, from Sahl b. Aba Umama b. Sahl b. Hunaif, it says, Who sought martyrdom with sincerity will be ranked by Allah among the martyrs even if he died on his bed. [Saheeh Muslim, Book 020, Number 4694 & 4695]

Excuse # 4:

When Allah wants me to come, Allah will call me

Sure, guidance is in Allahs Hands. Yet you have to work hard to qualify for that guidance. Remember that Allah will not throw the guidance in your lap from up above. It is YOU who has to make the effort. Just like if you are hungry Allah will not throw the food down from the sky. You have to get up and cook that food.

Allah, the Most High, orders us to make that effort. Allah says: O you who believe! Do your duty to Allh and fear Him. Seek the means of approach to Him, and strive hard in His Cause as much as you can. So that you may be successful. [The Noble Quran, Soorah Al-Ma'idah 5:35]

When you walk towards Allah, he rushes towards you; Narrate Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him); Allah's Messenger (peace be upon him) said, Allah, the Exalted and Glorious, said: I live in the thought of My servant and I am with him as he remembers Me. (The Holy Prophet) further said: By Allah, Allah is more pleased wth the repentance of His servant than what one of you would do on finding the lost camel in the waterless desert. When he draws near Me by the span of his hand. I draw near him by the length of a cubit and when he draws near Me by the length of a cubit. I draw near him by the length of a fathom and when he draws near Me walking I draw close to him hurriedly. [Saheeh Muslim, Book 037, Number 6610]  - But you need to take the first step.

Excuse # 5:

Its too much hard work

Do you realize how much hard work we do for the Dunya (world)? Most of our lives we spend working hard for our studies, our livelihood, our families, our businesses, and we cant bear to work hard for the Aakhirah (hereafter)? Sure, Hajj is hard work but then, isnt Jannah (paradise) worth it?

Narrated Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him): Allah's Apostle (peace be upon him) said, "(The performance of) 'Umra is an expiation for the sins committed (between it and the previous one). And the reward of Hajj Mabrur (the one accepted by Allah) is nothing except Paradise ." [(Agreed Upon); Saheeh Bukhaari, Volume 3, Book 27, Number 1; Saheeh Muslim, Book 007, Number 3127]

Allah, the Most High, says, And whoever desires the Hereafter and strives for it, with the necessary effort due for it (i.e. do righteous deeds of Allh's Obedience) while he is a believer (in the Oneness of Allh Islmic Monotheism), then such are the ones whose striving shall be appreciated, thanked and rewarded (by Allh). [The Noble Quran, Soorah Al-Isra 17:19]

'Umar ibn al-Khattaab (may Allah be pleased with him) is quoted as saying, "I seek Allah's protection from the time when the 'fasiq' or disobedient will have much energy and enthusiasm and the righteous will be lazy." [As quoted in Lazy Boy - It's All in Your Mind! by Muhammad al Shareef]

Excuse # 6:

It takes too long

Some people use the length of Hajj as an excuse each year for delaying or not going. How long does it take?! Just 2-3 weeks! As if they havent taken that much time for vacations?!

To them I want to say, planning is everything. If you plan from now for Hajj next year, you can save up your vacation time and use it for the most important journey of your life. Or you cam just choose an express Hajj package (about 10-14 days). And remember that the stay in Medinah is not a part of Hajj.

Excuse # 7:

Its too hot

A Canadian may say it's too cold. An African will say it's too hot. Both are making excuses for not doing good actions. Remember, it was summer in the desert during the time of the Battle of Tabuk, and the Prophet (peace be upon him) was rallying his troops for an exhaustive trip that, back then, would have taken them months. Thats when the hypocrites told the people 'do not go out in the heat'. Allah, the Most High, says, Those who stayed away (from Tabuk expedition) rejoiced in their staying behind the Messenger of Allh; they hated to strive and fight with their properties and their lives in the Cause of Allh, and they said: "March not forth in the heat." Say: "The Fire of Hell is more intense in heat", if only they could understand! [The Noble Quran, Soorah At-Tawbah 9:81]

Excuse # 8:

Ill wait until my kids are older/get married

Similarly, Muslims might delay Hajj and give themselves time by saying, "let me wait till my kids are older or till my daughter gets married (and their daughter may only be 5 years old!)... let me wait till I do this, let me wait till I do that.

This is also just a way of procrastination and nothing else. Remember that hajj is an obligation in Islam. It is fardh (obligatory) upon you. If you have the means and you have not yet done your obligatory hajj, the scholars say that it is better for you to do Hajj, rather than delaying it if your kids are young.

Narrated Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him); The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, Hasten to do good deeds before Fitaan (trials and tribulations) come like patches of dark night, where a man will be a believer in the morning and will be a kaafir (disbeliever) by evening, or he will be a believer in the evening and a kaafir by the morning, and one of you will sell hi religion for some trifling worldly gain. [Saheeh Muslim, Book 001, Number 0213; Musnad Ahmad; Sunan at Tirmidhi; Refer to Saheeh al Jaami as Sagheer, 3/4]

Obviously, for the one whose kids are of marriageable age and has just enough money for either Hajj or marriage, the scholars say: If there is a conflict between the fathers Hajj and the sons getting married, because the father only has enough money for one of them, then he should look to see whether his sons marriage is essential right now, or can it be delayed? If the son needs to get married and fears that he may do something Haraam, then getting him married takes precedence over the fathers doing Hajj.

Beware of Lame Excuses

In a hadeeth, a person came to the Prophet (peace be upon him) and asked him, "O Messenger of Allah! Narrate to me a hadith, and make it short!" So he (peace be upon him) replied, Pray your prayer as if it is your last, as if you are seeing Him (Allah), for even if you do not see Him then He sees you. And give up hope (of obtaining) what other's possess, then you will live a rich life. And beware of anything that you might (later) have to make an excuse for. [Imam Bukhari in his al-Tarikh (3/216), and al-Tabarani in his al- Awsat (# 4588) and others. Al-Haythami, in his Majma al-Zawaid (10/ 229) said: "There are, in its chain, people that I do not know." However, this narration has supporting evidences, including the hadith of Sa d ibn Abi Waqqas, and 'Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (in al-Tabarani's al-Awsat, # 5907), due to which Sheikh al-Albaani considered it acceptable in his al-Sahihah (# 1914); As quoted in The True Richness by Shaykh Ab Ammr Yasir al-Qadh]

And it is Only Allah Who grants success. May Allah Exalt the mention of His slave and Messenger Muhammad, and render him, his household and companion safe from Evil!

Her period came before she did her Umrah

Menses does not prevent a woman from entering ihraam for Hajj and Umrah, but it is haraam for her to circumambulate the Kabah until after her menses ends. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said to Aaishah (may Allaah be pleased with her) when she got her menses before entering Makkah: “Do everything that the pilgrim does but do not circumambulate the House until you become pure (i.e., your menses ends). Agreed upon.

It is proven in Saheeh al-Bukhaari that when she became pure, she circumambulated the Kabah and did saai between al-Safa and al-Marwah. This indicates that if a woman gets her menses before doing tawaaf, she should not do tawaaf and saa’i until she becomes pure.

Based on this, what you wife must do is wait until she becomes pure, and then circumambulate the Kabah and do saai between al-Safa and al-Marwah, then cut her hair. Then she will have completed her umrah. And she does NOT have to offer a ransom for having gotten her menses when she was in ihraam.

Women Kissing the Black Stone

Is it correct for a woman when kissing the Black Stone to uncover her face when there are men near her ?

Kissing the Black Stone during tawaaf is Sunnah muakkadah (a confirmed Sunnah), it is one of the Sunnahs of tawaaf if it is possible to do that without crowding or disturbing anyone by your actions, following the example of the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) in that.

If it can only be done by crowding and disturbing others, then it should not be done; in that case it is sufficient to point to it with ones hand, especially for women, because the woman is awrah and because crowding is not prescribed for men, so that applies even more so to women. If it is easy for a woman to kiss the Black Stone without crowding, it is not permissible for her to uncover her face when doing so, because there are men who are not her mahrams in that place.

(islam-qa)

She wore the Burqa (face veil) when in Ihraam and she did not know that it is Haraam

Is it permissible for a woman to wear the burqa’ (a kind of face veil) when in ihraam? My family wore it and when they came back from Hajj they were told that their Hajj was not acceptable, because they wore the burqa ?

Wearing the burqa is NOT permissible for a woman in ihraam, because the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Women should not wear niqaab or gloves.” Narrated by al-Bukhaari.

But there is no sin on a woman who wears the burqa in ihraam if she is unaware of the prohibition, and her Hajj is valid.

If she was aware and still she wore the burqa it means she has done a sin.

And Allaah is the Source of strength. May Allaah send blessings and peace upon our Prophet Muhammad and his family and companions. End quote.

Standing Committee for Academic Research and Issuing Fatwas

Fataawa al-Lajnah al-Daa’imah li’l-Buhooth al-‘Ilmiyyah wa’l-Ifta (11/190-192).

She did Umrah and forgot to Cut her Hair,
then she did Umrah again

I did umrah and forgot to cut my hair, then I went and entered ihraam for another umrah [straight after the first one], and I did tawaaf and saai then cut my hair.
What is the ruling on my first and second umrahs, and what should I do ?

I asked our Shaykh Abd al-Rahmaan al-Barraak about this and he replied:

Doing one umrah after another is not valid according to the fuqaha of the Muslims, so the second umrah does not count and the cutting of the hair is counted for the first umrah.

Can a woman enter Ihraam
when she is wearing Gold ?

It is permissible for a woman to enter ihraam with bangles or rings of gold on her hands, and so on, but it is prescribed for her to conceal that from non-mahram men, lest they be tempted by her.

Shaykh Ibn Uthaymeen (may Allaah have mercy on him) said in Majmoo Fataawa Ibn Uthaymeen (22/201): There is nothing wrong with a woman wearing whatever she wants of gold when entering ihraam, so long as that does not reach the level of extravagance, even rings and bangles on the hands, but in that case she should conceal it from non-mahram men lest any temptation occur.

(source- islam-qa)

She wants to go for Umrah but
She Does Not have a Mahram

A woman who does not have a mahram to travel with does not have to go for Hajj or Umrah, and she is excused if she does not go. It is haraam for her to travel for Hajj or for any other reason without a mahram, and she has to be patient until Allaah makes it easy for one of her mahrams to travel with her.

The ways of goodness are many. If a Muslim cannot do one act of worship, he may strive hard in those acts of worship that he can do, until Allaah makes it easy for him to do the acts of worship that he could not do.

By the bounty of Allaah towards His believing slaves, if a person resolves to do an act of worship but he is unable to do it because of some excuse, he will be granted the reward of one who does it. Al-Bukhaari (4423) narrated from Anas ibn Maalik (may Allaah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) came back from the campaign of Tabook and when he drew close to Madeenah he said: “In Madeenah there are some people who, whenever you marched or crossed a valley, were with you.” They said: “O Messenger of Allaah, but they were in Madeenah.” He said, “They were in Madeenah because some excuse kept them back.”

The scholars of the Standing Committee said:

A woman who does not have a mahram does not have to do Hajj, because in her case a mahram is part of being able to do Hajj, and being able to do it is one of the conditions of Hajj being obligatory. Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“And Hajj (pilgrimage to Makkah) to the House (Kabah) is a duty that mankind owes to Allaah, those who can afford the expenses (for one’s conveyance, provision and residence)”

[Aal ‘Imraan 3:97]

It is not permissible for her to travel for Hajj or for any other purpose unless she is accompanied by her husband or a mahram, because of the report narrated by al-Bukhaari and Muslim from Ibn ‘Abbaas (may Allaah be pleased with him), that he heard the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) say: “No man should be alone with a woman unless her mahram is present, and no woman should travel unless she has a mahram with her.”

A man stood up and said: “O Messenger of Allaah, my wife has gone out for Hajj, and I have enlisted for such and such a campaign.” He said: “Go and do Hajj with your wife.” This was also the view of al-Hasan, al-Nakha’i, Ahmad, Ishaaq, Ibn al-Mundhir and ashaab al-ra’i, and it is the correct view, because of the verse quoted, as well as the general meaning of the ahaadeeth which forbid a woman to travel without her husband or a mahram. Maalik, al-Shaafa’i and al-Awzaa’i held a different opinion and each of them stipulated a condition (allowing her to do that), but with no evidence. Ibn al-Mundhir said: they did not follow the apparent meaning of the hadeeth, and each of them stipulated a condition (allowing her to do that), but with no evidence.

Fataawa al-Lajnah al-Daa’imah li’l-Buhooth al-‘Ilmiyyah wa’l-Ifta’, 11/90, 91

And they said:

If the situation is as described – that it is not easy for your husband or a mahram of yours to travel with you to perform the obligation of Hajj – then you are not obliged to do it so long as this is the case, because the accompaniment of your husband or mahram on the journey for Hajj is one of the conditions of Hajj being obligatory for you. It is haraam for you to travel for Hajj or for any other purpose without that, even if you go with your brother’s wife and a group of women, according to the correct scholarly view, because the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said, “No woman should travel except with a mahram.” (Saheeh – agreed upon). That is unless your brother also travels with his wife, in which case it is permissible to travel with him, because he is a mahram for you. Strive to do righteous deeds that do not need you to travel, and be patient in the hope that Allaah will make things easier for you and enable you to go for Hajj with your husband or mahram.

Fataawa al-Lajnah al-Daa’imah li’l-Buhooth al-‘Ilmiyyah wa’l-Ifta’, 11/96.

15. The Prophet Sallallaho Alehe Wasallem Last Sermon
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful This sermon was delivered on the ninth day of Dhul Hijah, 10 A.H. (632 A.D.) in the valley of Mount Arafat . The contents of the message were collected from different narrations, and there are other parts to it that are not mentioned here. This sermon still needs the authenticity of all of its parts to be checked.

"O People, lend me an attentive ear, for I know not whether, after this year, I shall ever be amongst you again. Therefore, listen to what I am saying to you very carefully and take these words to those who could not be present today.

O People, just as you regard this month, this day, this city as sacred, so regard the life and property of every Muslim as a sacred trust. Return the goods entrusted to you to their rightful owners. Hurt no one so that no one may hurt you. Remember that you will indeed meet your Lord, and that He will indeed reckon your deeds. Allah has forbidden you to take interest, therefore, all interest obligations shall henceforth be waived. Your capital, however, is yours to keep. You will neither inflict nor suffer inequity. Allah has judged that there shall be no interest and that all interest due to Abbas bin Abdul-Muttalib (the prophet's uncle) shall henceforth be waived.

Every right arising out of homicide in pre-Islamic days is henceforth waived and the first such right I waive is that arising from the murder of Rabiyah bin Al-Harith (relative of the prophet).

O Men, the unbelievers indulge in tampering with the calendar in order to make permissible that which Allah forbade, and to forbid that which Allah had made permissible. With Allah the months are twelve; four of them are holy; three of these are successive and one occurs singly between the months of Jumadah and Shaaban. Beware of Satan, for the safety of your religion. He has lost all hope that he will ever be able to lead you astray in big things, so beware of following him in small things.

O People, it is true that you have certain right with regard to your women, but they also have rights over you. If they abide by your right then to them belongs the right to be fed and clothed in kindness.. Do treat your women well and be kind to them for they are your partners and committed helpers. And it is your right that they do not make friends with any one of whom you do not approve, as well as never commit adultery.

O People, listen to me in earnest, worship Allah, say your five daily prayers, fast during the month of Ramadhan, and give your wealth in zakat. Perform Hajj if you can afford to. All mankind is from Adam and Eve, an Arab has no superiority over a non-Arab, nor a non-Arab has any superiority over an Arab; also a white has no superiority over a black, nor a black has any superiority over white except by piety and good action. Learn that every Muslim is the brother of another Muslim, and that Muslims constitute one brotherhood. Nothing shall be legitimate to a Muslim which belongs to a fellow Muslim unless it was given freely and willingly. Do not, therefore, do injustice to your selves.

Remember, one day you will appear before Allah and answer for your deeds. So beware, do not stray from the path of righteousness after I am gone.

O People, no prophet or apostle will come after me and no new faith will be born. Reason well, therefore, O People, and understand my words which I convey to you. I leave behind me two things, the Quran and my example, the Sunnah, and if you follow these you will never go astray..

All those who listen to me shall pass on my words to others, and those to others again; and may the last ones understand my words better that those who listen to me directly. Be my witness O Allah, that I have conveyed Your message to Your people."

Alahumma infa`ni bima `allamtani wa `allamni ma yanfa`uni!

OH ALLAH! Make useful for me what You taught me
and teach me knowledge that will be useful to me! (Aameen)

Guiding one soul to knowledge and faith is a momentous achievement.
It is what will earn us great blessings...
