Aalaap is a Bengali word for 'discussion' or 'chat'.
Aalaap is an information and discussion forum.
We welcome anyone who enjoys various topics and may engage in a moderated dialogue. We place an emphasis on South Asian topics, but various topics of global interest are also equally welcome. This forum has NO commercial, political or religious affiliations.
Academic, social, and cultural posts on South Asian as well as global issues are accepted. Member submissions should be fairly well written and focused. General opinions not supportable with facts, evidence, or real-life anecdotes are discouraged. Magazine articles should include the source reference/link. Plagiarism is strictly prohibited.
The forum welcomes constructive essays on politics and religion, but discourages BOTH irrelevant religious praise and propagandist religion bashing. Professional courtesy on rebuttals is expected; personal attacks (ad hominem fallacy) among members are unacceptable.
Articles on women's rights, their historical, cultural, social, and religious perspectives, interpretive obstacles, and ideas for solutions are most welcome.
We may accept employment ads.
Send regular messages as either PLAIN or HTML text. Attachments may be allowed--if not TOO large and deemed by the moderators as pertinent to the message. Posts may be either EDITED or REJECTED at the moderators' discretion.
This forum has NOT been operational since August 14, 2002; it is no longer accepting new members.
