Subject: The great Fuijieda Miyabi crossover
atheniag
Send Email Send Email

Hi all -

When I received the latest issue of Yuri Hime, I noted that, since
"Kotonoha no Miko to Kotodama no Majyo to" was over, there was a small
omake comic of other Miyabi characters that will be starting up in the
next issue.

I recognized the ladies of the Ameriro Koucha Pavilion from Eternal
Sisters 2, but...

As I went back and re-read "MikoMajyo" (as Miyabi refers to it in her
afterword) I realized that, duh, Letty and Tsumugi had already been at
the cafe in question. (Something confirmed in the Drama CD.) I had
completely forgotten that.

Then I went back and re-read the ES story and I realized in one fell
swoop that Fujieda Miyabi is a crossover hound. LOL

In the first ES story about the owner of the Ameiro Koucha Kandan, no
less than three other sets of characters from Fujieda Miyabi stories
wander in. In MikoMajyo (the spelling is also Miyabi's) Letty and
Tsumugi wander into at least two other stories - and how they manage
to avoid running into Iono-sama and her handmaidens, I have no idea.

In the Drama CD, when Tsumugi and Letty want a drink, they naturally
head over to the Ameiro Koucha Pavilion.

So, when the new series starts in the next Yuri Hime, expect crossovers.

Reviews of MikoMajyo and the Drama CD will go up on Okazu shortly.
It's all good, as to be expected from Fujieda Miyabi. :-)

Cheers,

Erica

Hello all!

We have officially passed the 1500 person mark this week, so I
thought it might be nice to say hello to all the folks who have
joined recently.

If you're new here, please take a moment to read the FAQs for this
list at http://www.yuricon.org/faq.html Really. I mean it. Go *read*
the page.

When you have read our rules, feel free to jump in with a short
intro, who your favorite yuri couple is, how you got into yuri, that
sort of thing. :-) I'll start:

My name is Erica Friedman, founder and preseident of Yuricon. I got
into yuri through Sailor Moon and still think Haruka and Michiru are
the Queens of Yuri. Currently watching Simoun and Strawberry Panic,
and reading Kotonoha no Miko to Kotodama no Majyo to (reviewed today
on Okazu:http://okazu.blogspot.com).

Before I go, I want to welcome back a long-lost friend to the list.
In 2003, Menagi-chan was the vice chair of Yuricon 2003 and we're
very, very pleased to have her back! Yay!

So welcome to our friends, new and old - welcome to the Yuricon ML!

Cheers,

Erica

Hallo, Token here.  I'm an almost 20-yr-old studying art history, religious studies, and Japanese at Indiana University: Bloomington, IN.  I don't know much about yuri thanks to the term's adoption by many porn sites out there, so I'm hoping to expand my experience of the genre.  Thus far I have to agree with Erica on the awesomeness of Haruka and Michiru.  ;)  Erm, think that's it!  Nice to meet y'all.

Hloo ladies and gents! I'm Sab, which is short for H. Sabets; also known as Saber, Sabie, and Hira to people who've known me way too long. I'm 20 years oldish, and I'm an artist and a writer. These two abilities together form of the aspiration to one day make graphic novels; I have, currently, two heavily shoujo-ai focused stories in the works, which I may bug the community for feedback on once they get to a more finalized state. I don't remember exactly when it dawned on me, but at some point around 15 or 16 tender years, I realized that there was nothing so appealing as shoujo-ai; gooshy, fluffy, light, dramatic, angsty, torrid, sexy... it's all so very lovely.

For me, I didn't discover yuri manga/anime till after this realization, but I'll try to recount some moments of first-yuri-love... I think the first f/f couple in anime I actually likely shipped was Ranko/Akane in Ranma 1/2; back when I was 13 someone made a fanfiction about what if jusenkyo curses were permanent, and it dealt with Ranko & Akane having to get to know eachother with Akane knowing Ranma as a girl, and ever since it's kinda stuck... even in the manga the Ranko/Akane scenes seem sweeter than the ones with M-Ranma. I have huge, embarrassing crushes on Lum from Urusei Yatsura, Shampoo and Ukyo from Ranma 1/2, Hikaru Shidou from Magic Knight Rayearth, and both Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy from Batman(the animated series), which aren't anime, but I can't help it. They're just sooo cute. XD;

I found Yuricon when I once attended ACen and got a flyer for Yaoicon. Not really into yaoi, I was more curious to check online to see if there was, perhaps, a parallel YuriCon... and so was lead here. ;3 I'll stop yammering, and end this with some of my art, for perhaps desired perusal:
The  three main characters of my torrid lesbian love triangle story that I keep trying to jumpstart. Left to right Mayounaka, Ryuko and Narita.
Mai-po and Ri-chu from the above. Mai loves messing with Ri, Ri finds Mai strange and disfavorable.
Na-chi, from the first.  Na is in general torn between a lot of things, and ri and mai's attentions do not ease this.
Mai continuing with her favorite hobby (possibly a bit risque for work; doesn't help that I forgot to draw ri's clothes)
a "minicomic" I conjured, illustrating their strange "relationship" .

Yeah that's it for now, time to ease off on the link happiness.

Hello all -

I wanted to share this with you, because I think it says a lot about
how far we've come in the 6 years since I came up with this silly
idea. (In fact - happy birthday to ALC/Yuricon. I created it next
week, 6 years ago!)

When I first created the community that was then "AniLesboCon", I
spent a lot of time explaining what yuri was, and being grilled for
liking it. Yaoi wasn't even that popular yet, and yuri was mostly
unheard of.

As yaoi became more popular, I spend more time fending off "ewww,
yuri" comments from the socially maladjusted and sexually immature.
But over the past year, there have been less and less "eww, yuri"
moments. This year's Otakon had only two such, neither memorable.

But it also had multiple moments where a person walked up to our table
and said, "I've just dropped a load of money on yaoi - time to balance
it with some yuri." The first time this happened, I was happy - the
fourth time, I was boggling.

It appears that the day has come, my friends, where people can,
actually enjoy yaoi, yuri, and all other forms of manga equally. Ta-da.

So, for Yuricon's 6th birthday, let's all enjoy this brand new world
we've created, shall we? ;-)

Cheers,

Erica

Hmmm... Let's see- Okay, I go by the name of Baka Gaijin30 (which
basically translates to "Stupid Foreigner 30"), and I chose the name
because it fits my sense of humor. I'm 32 years old, and I first was
exposed to anime as a young child through Battle of the
Planets/Gatchaman, and as an adult through the original OVA of
Bubblegum Crisis. I think it was through reading BGC fanfiction that
I first became exposed to yuri, and have been infatuated with it
ever since. My favorite parings are probably Haruka and Michiru, as
well as Ami and Makoto from Sailor Moon. I also write fanfiction (a
lot of it parodying my favorite series).

I think one of the things I find most appealing about yuri is that
there's a tenderness and beauty in the best stories that's missing
in a lot of hetero stories.

Anyways, that's it for now. I'm currently writing a Strawberry Panic
spoof, so I'll be sure to let you all know when the next chapter is
done. Bye ^^

Don't you love it when you find something you saw as a kid all those
years ago, and never saw again?

WAY back in high school, I remember going into the (not) local comic
book store, and as usual feeling grossly uncomfortable by all the
stares. Not at me so much, but more a "which comics is she reading"
leering. Before leaving quick as I could (as I would do), I happenned
to spy this little gem.

Rude Girls & Dangerous Women, by Jennifer Camper.

Having a quick flick through the pages, that was pretty much my first
experience with lesbians in comic books. And wouldn'cha know, they
were all big n' strong n' extremely happy being who they were. One
great big society of women having a blast with each other, having fun.

Naturally, I couldn't buy it. One, because at that age I had to save
every cent I had just to buy one issue of a comic book, let alone a
book... and two, I'da been WAY to freaked out to hand it over to the
sales clerk guy. And so, I never saw it again.

For more than a decade, I could never figure out what that book was I
saw in ye olde comic book store in my childhood. No title, no author,
no front cover image, no nothing. Just a vague recollection of one or
two B&W panels of the comic strips found therein.

So there I am going through Amazon.com book lists, window shopping,
picking up the occasional title, and I see an old book by Jennifer
Camper, of 'Juicy Mother' fame (volume 2 taking *way* too long to be
released). It may be old and no doubt outdated, but what the hey? I
add it to the list and eventually it arrives.

Oh the joy of opening the book and discovering... this is it! This is
the one! I *remember* these comic strips!. Oh the childhood glee of
having as an adult that long lost jewel of your youth. For a moment,
I was *complete*. What was lost, hads now been found. It was mine.

Gawd, I'm such a nerd. ^__^

Hello.

I've been something of a lurker most of the time, but here goes :).
My name is Kat, I've been a member for a couple of years now. My favourite
yuri couple, I suppose are Utena and Anthy, but of the movie, not so much
the series.
I like Simoun and Marimite and Moonlight Feathers and a lot of other yuri
things as well, and I'm thankful that there is something like this mailing
list to communicate with people with similar interests.

Nice to meet you all and delurke, hope you will accept me kindly, as I'm
somewhat shy over the net.

Kat

Hi! I am known as neo_hrtgdv and well, the name is the code for a
Super NES game called "Maui Mallard in Cold Shadow", its about a duck
that fight evil spirits.. i know its weird but the name "hrtgdv" is
the code for the final scene ^_^

Anywy, I got into yuri from Haruka and Michiru, my sister and I both
liked anime so we sometimes watched Sailor Moon together, and it was
when I first met yuri, I was very young at that time. a few years
later I wrote a story about two girls that fell in love, I didn't know
the word "yuri" or even the full meaning of the word "lesbian" beyond:
"a girl who has girlfriend"; but I liked the story a lot and of course
the girls, it was only until I saw the movie of Utena that I really
got into yuri, by searching in the interneta bout it I got to wiki,
and wiki led me to yuri and shoujo ai, and then I got to the page "el
rincon del lirio" which is made by Laurasama (which in my opinion, is
one of the greatest yuri personalities in spanish speaking zones) and
got to know much more about the yuri and was in that page where I
found a link to the yuricon, and later found Erica's blog wich I like
a lot.

So yes, hi and nice to meet you all ^_^

hello everyone!

i'm lill, long time reader of okazu and new member of yuricon.
favourite yuri couple HANDS DOWN would be sei and shimako from
marimite - their deep, unspoken understanding of each other warms my
heart so!

i got into yuri, i suppose, in the hopes of finding something that
reflects my own gay experience. it's been pretty good so far, though
none of my girlfriends have turned into cars i can drive (utena
movie)... yet. heh :D

currently watching "butterfly" (HK movie) on repeat (tian yuan is
DIVINE!), frothing at the mouth in anticipation of marimite 3 and
working on a graphic novel with lesbian themes. reading ebine yamaji-
san's work prompted me to create something similar (and many thanks
to okazu/erica for the heads up!)

that's it from me, happy yuri-ing folks!

I recently was given a copy of a book I loved as a child - the Boy's King
Arthur. It's the only short Arthurian thing I've ever seen with the stories
of Agravain and Gaheris. (Source material for the fanfic "The Senshi's
Challenge" on worldshaking.net)

The First Lady found it and gave it to me. It was exactly as I remembered -
only it was completely incoherent. I mean, laughbly so.

I thought of you last time I read through the book and saw that. :)

I particularly love the Camper comic with the black woman in the
voting booth. I've gone and re-read that one several times during
every election season for the past 8 or so years.

The funny things is, of course, that I am NOT an artist. Not even
remotely. And yet I still make no money on comics. I thought that we
corporate types were supposed to be raking it in while all the artists
were getting ripped off! :-)

Ta-da.

So, for Yuricon's 6th birthday, let's all enjoy this brand new world
we've created, shall we? ;-)

Cheers,

Erica

Hello all you yuri fans! Just wanted to send a little intro message here, finally. My name's Mariko-sama, or Aru-chan. All my friends call me Aru-chan, though, so I guess it'll be that. I just chose Mariko-sama because I have a total crush on Toda no Buntaro Mariko (probably got that name wrong) from Shogun. Those long family names are tricky, ne?

Mariko-sama isn't from anime, or even yuri, but she's just so cute and kirei I can't help but like her. And of course Clavelle had to kill her off. Bah! If you haven't read Shogun, I command you to! It's the best book! Full of samurai and kirei geisha and all that awesome stuff!

Well, let's see. My favourite yuri couples...Haruka and michiru, definitely. Haruka-sama wa cho utsukushii! I also have a fondness for Akane/Shampoo, though I kinda like Shampoo with everyone because I think she's so kawaii! Xian Po-sama! I also love Ami and Minako as a couple, though I lean towards Ami and Mako-chan, since there isn't nearly enough Ami/Minako. Wahh! Ever since I read Ken Wolfe's Kiss of the Enemy, I've been looking for good Ami and Minako fics, but sadly have found very few. Ami and Makoto are a good second, though, and though I haven't found many excellent fics, the series itself has some kawaii moments between them.

Oh! How could I forget? Utena and Anthy! I think those two, next to Haruka and Michiru, are my favourite. I just love them to pieces! It's all Kawakani Tomoko's fault! That scene in Utena I don't remember which episode number, but when Anthy has to go to Touga. The pain in Utena-sama's voice was just....I dunno. Ever since I watched that episode, I've been a fan of them ever since. I love good Anthy/Utena fics! Speaking of, if any of you are looking for a good read, try Archimage. I don't remember the authour, but it's awesome! She even gives Miki-kun a British boyfriend! For some reason, I think that's just so cute! And the Utena/Anthy! Lovely! There's this really funny scene where Utena-sama's in the hospital and just waking up, and Anthy is coming to visit her. The baka gaijin doctor keeps mispronouncing Anthy's last name, and finally Utena-sama gets fed up and gets up screaming "HIMEMIYA!" I just think it's so funny because I can picture it happening. It's just so Utena.

Okay; babbled quite enough. I had Strawberries and Cream Pepsi for breakfast, so I'm a wee bit hyper. I like yuri for the same reasons someone else mentioned, yes, it was baka gaijin 30. It's just so tender and sweet, and also there aren't any stupid expectations of who's the wife 'cause they're both wives! Works out good, ne? I'm playing around with an original yuri story; I started writing it last year, but then my damned computer crashed, so I'll have to rewrite it. My laptop ain't gonna crash any time soon, or it better not! Well, I'll shut up now. I hope to make some good friends on this list as this is the first time I've really enterd the online mailing list thing. Take care all, and expect me to bug you guys for feedback once I start writing my yuri epic again. Ja ne!

This site tracks the horrendous way in which female superheroes are
treated in mainstream comics. It's worse than we think...

There's also a great blog that aggregates posts from around the web
about women in comic, women who do comics, comics for women and just
plain women's opinions about comics. "When Fangirls Attack":
http://womenincomics.blogspot.com/
They cover all sorts of issues, including yaoi and yuri comics.

I have had a chance to review the first MikoMajyo Drama CD - that went

Apologizies for posting this late, but.....

I really enjoyed the yuri panel at this year's Otakon.
Thankfully, the time was perfect for me (9PM as
opposed to 11PM in the past) so I won't have to worry
about walking back late to the hotel and running into
any homeless or shifty characters (thankfully this
year it didn't happen).

My favorite part of the panel was when Erica put the
"guy in the yellow T-shirt" in his place for talking
during the panel.

I really liked the yuri screen saver that was shown on
the big screens during the panel that featured many
yuri pictures. Was that a homemade screen saver or one
downloaded from another site? I like that screen saver
greatly.

Carmen ^_^

P.S. - not to mentioned I dropped by to the Yuricon
table during my shopping spree in the Dealers Room.
That is one thing that I had to do to make sure I
wasn't accused or real-life lurking.

Well, I managed to do some evangelizing this last weekend. I was at Diversicon, in the audience for a panel on the current state of GLBT characters in SF literature. And when the moderator didn't show by the beginning of the panel, I allowed as I could say a fair bit about current affairs in anime. (Rachel did show, about ten minutes into the panel.)

So I gave the audience a fill in on Simoun, Princess Princess, Ouran High School Host Club, Kashimashi, and "oh by the way, there will be a third season, OVAs, of Maria-Sama ga Miteru". Then after that, people fell to talking SF and television, and I also was able to speak to GLBT presence in mysteries.

Lyda Morehouse was on the panel, and very interested in the anime; I gave her my e-mail and told her to get in touch, I could burn some DVDs of fansubs for her.

Minor, but something positive, I'd say.

Baltimore made it illegal to panhandle around the BCC too - which didn't
really help, but it was a nice gesture.

Feel free to write Otakon and thank them for putting us at 9PM. It was
awfully nice of them.

Next year I might ask for a 90 minute panel - we had way too much to talk
about and so little time.

It was also a fairly common Victorian habit to keep a lock of hair from
