I understand why they might want to do the missing bits of season 1, (you
know, see how it goes, then go back and fill in the holes) but it'll seems
awfully weird watching New Year's episodes in July.
:-)

That'll make all the Sei fans happy. :-) And we might get to see a little
more of Eriko and Youko and learn a little bit more about them.

I haven't been following the Marimite news that carefully, so thanks for the
scoop. :-)

Y'see, that's where you're really, /really/ wrong... Seriously.

The TV series is (obviously) much slower-moving, but when it does begin
to hit you, you suddenly begin to realise just how significant every
tiny detail of it can be... (except, of course, for all the ones that
are meaningless misdirections ;)

Actually, I think Eriko fans may the group that gets the most out of
the side story exploration. She's got a couple of side stories in
Volume 7 (Graduation arc) about her first love that's fairly likely to
be shown in MariMite Season 2. About time I say, since Eriko got
seriously stiffed for screen time in season 1.

Unfortunately, from what I know of the novel Youko-sama is unlikely to
get many stories in season 2. On the upside, at least Sei won't be
going far after graduation... :-) I really want to see at least *one*
scene where Sei/Shimako/Noriko are on screen at the same time. (I
wonder how Noriko's going to react to Sei. ^^)

Hi all -

Thanks to Rica Takashima, I am the proud owner of two issues of MIST
magazine, a mid-to-late 90's all-yuri manga magazine. I'm scanning in
stories as I have a chance and the lovely folks at lililicious are
doing the translation. The first story, Endless, which is really
whacked, is up on the lililicious site: http://lililicious.cjb.net or
on #lililicious @ irc.rizon.net

This manga is for adults only. Really. Please don't be a jerk and
download it if you are a minor, live at home and/or are under the
scrutiny of a diaspproving parent or guardian. It doesn't make you
cool - it just makes you inconsiderate (to those who host it, because
they can get in trouble) and stupid (because you could get in trouble.
) And we all know that people who are considerate and intelligent are
*much* sexier than stupid, inconsiderate ones. :-)

Cheers,

Erica

For once I actually agree with Chris. Although I enjoyed the movie,
and he did not, I still think that the TV series was the best of all
of the versions.

I think this might be my first time to post here (de-lurks).
Anyway...

We are currently translating the fifth novel in the Maria-sama ga
miteru series which covers the first part of the Valentine's story
arc (anime episodes 7 and 8). Even if you have already seen the
anime, you will probably appreciate the more detailed descriptions
in the novel. I suppose it is a bit odd to start in the middle of
the series but I particularly liked this part of the novels and
anime.

We have finally uploaded a website of our work so far and will
continue to post new releases on the site:
http://www.saicoink.com/marimite

I would appreciate any feedback of any kind from the translation
quality to the website presentation (like if the font size is okay
or not). This is the first time any of us have started a project
like this so if there are any mistakes, please understand.

Thank you for your support!
saicoink

p.s. I'm posting this to a number of groups so if you get this
several times I apologize ahead of time!

I actually took a look at this a little while back. I think you're doing a
fine joband should keep it up. I know I'll keep my fingers crossed that you
do the Forest of Thorns arc, myself. :-)

Thanks for the heads up and keep up the good work! :-)

Thanks Adam for the suggestion, but perhaps you agree that that this is a
*highly* subjective matter. At any rate, since you are so fond of the series, I
might give it a try, to see for myself whether I like it or not, but the film
was so amazing and beautiful... hard to beat this.

Consider if you will, the following data points.

Adam is a straight atheistic computer nut from England.

Erica is a lesbian Druid librarian from New Jersey.

I am a celibate Christian writer from Canada.

We have virtually *nothing* in common -- except that we all agree
that the TV series was better than the movie. (And we all write
fanfic, but never mind that now.) When something appeals to that
broad of an audience, you might want to consider that it might
actually be as good as everyone is saying.

I have to say that, much as I love the series, there's so much I
think is brilliant about the movie too. I couldn't pick one or the
other.

I'm going to just repeat what everyone else has said: you ABSOLUTELY
should watch the series, but be aware that it gets better (and more
complex) as it goes along, so please stick with it. It's awfully
cutesy at the beginning.

Saiyuu no Ryokou: The Continuing Adventures of Yuriko

The Story So Far: Several weeks of preparation for the tour have
passed. Yuriko is being given time off for good behavior.

Volume 2, Issue 1

"On the Road"

"I'm leaving!" Yuriko called out with a wave. The technicians that
heard nodded, a few waved. Mayumi didn't look up, nor did Renzo, or
the others involved in the process of marking the stage, moving the
scenery, checking the sound and lighting, or either of the Assistant
Directors. Yuriko sighed with relief and left the stage quickly,
before anyone could protest.

The past few weeks had been exhausting. Yuri changed her clothes
quickly, avoiding Haru as much as possible. She had one long weekend
before she had to be back and she was going to hoard every second of
that free time. She was feeling stripped – emotionally and physically.
Rehearsals were going smoothly enough, but Mayumi's continued
high-level dislike had begun to wear away on Yuri's nerves.

If anyone deserves a vacation, it would definitely be me, Yuriko
thought to herself.

***

Midori met her at the studio gate. The writer was wearing shorts and a
thin cotton t-shirt. As she approached, Yuriko allowed her self a
long, lingering look at her lover. Midori was thin, but not too thin,
Yuri thought. Not too thin, but not too heavy. Just right.

"You're perfect." Yuriko commented as she moved into Midori's range of
hearing.

Midori smiled beatifically. "Of course, but what brought that on?"

"I saw you and it just came to mind." Yuriko leaned down to buss the
other woman lightly on the cheek in greeting.

"Very appropriate," Midori joked. She pulled Yuriko a little closer
and whispered, "You're pretty darn perfect yourself."

Yuri's cheeks reddened. "Thank you," she said, hesitating a little.

"Well, are you ready?" Midori asked.

Yuriko took the other woman's arm and threaded it through hers. "I
wanted to talk to you about that," she began. "Are you really sure you
want to do this?"

The writer looked sharply at Yuriko. "I thought we'd already discussed
this. Yes, this is what I want."

Yuriko waved a hand dramatically. "But a week? In a car? I mean, we
can take a train, or fly…"

Midori's hand, which had been gripping Yuriko's arm rather tightly,
relaxed. "Oh, you meant the car. I thought…well, never mind."

Yuriko looked carefully at the other woman. "I'll admit that I'm
nervous about going to visit your family too, but no, I didn't mean
that. It's just such a long ride and cars…"

Midori pulled her hand from Yuriko's arm and stopped walking. "But you
take cars all the time!"

Yuriko looked chagrined. "Sure in the city – but the country's a whole
different thing - what if we breakdown? And people on highways always
drive poorly and there's trucks and strange people..."

Midori pursed her lips for a few moments. "It's not the car, is it?
You're afraid of the wide-open spaces." She laughed lightly. "Come on,
Yuri, it'll be fine. I love to drive, so you can just sit and watch
the landscape pass by. Just like you do here." She began to walk
again, leaving the blonde behind in a few steps.

Yuriko watched her walk away, looking nervous and unsure. "I just have
a weird feeling about this. What if, after a few days, you can't take
it anymore?"

"Then we'll leave," Midori said without turning.

"I meant," Yuriko said quietly, "what if you can't take me anymore?"

Midori stopped. "Then we won't be able to live together." She turned
to face the blonde. "Think of it as an audition for the part." Her
smile was so warm and confident that Yuriko found herself returning
it. In a second, the doubt cleared and she stepped smartly up to her
lover and they walked on together.

***

The rental agent slipped the keys across the counter and smiled at
Midori. "It is our great pleasure to do business with you," she
intoned. Midori nodded and scooped the keys up with a smile. There was
an air of hesitation about the woman though, and Midori paused.

"Is there something else?"

The rental agent looked chagrined. She licked her lips nervously and
finally, in a hushed voice so no one else would hear, she asked, "I
was…I was hoping that maybe …that I could get Yuriko-san's autograph."

Midori looked at the woman in surprise for a second, then turned to
the idol. Yuri, whose attention was completely wrapped up in the
television that was displayed prominently in the office, jumped when
Midori tapped her on the arm.

"This woman would like an autograph from the famous idol," Midori said
meaningfully.

Yuriko's eyebrow lifted, but she pulled a pen from a pocket and leaned
forward without hesitation. The woman slid a piece of paper forward
much as she had the keys to their car. Yuriko asked her name, signed
the autograph and graciously accepted the agent's effusive thanks.

The two women left the office thoughtfully.

"Penny for your thoughts," Yuriko said at last.

"I was thinking that you are dangerously unselfish," Midori admitted.
"You just give your fans whatever they want."

"Not really. If that were the case, I'd keep a pocket full of
headshots, with sexy messages all ready to go."

"What were you thinking?" Midori asked, laughing.

"Me?" Yuriko looked startled, then a bit embarrassed. Laughing at
herself, Yuriko said, "Actually, I was wondering why on earth we were
renting a car."

"I thought we'd *been* through that…" Midori began petulantly.

"No, no, no," Yuriko waved away the writer's concerns quickly, "I
mean, here we are, both of us successful, not extravagant buyers, we
pretty much have all the money we need – we could just as easily buy a
car as rent one!"

Now it was Midori's turn to be surprised. "And what would we do with
it, once we returned to the city?"

"Oh, I don't know," Yuri joked, "give it away, leave it on the
street…something."

"Gives a whole new meaning to "disposable income," doesn't it?" Midori
said with a grin.

The two women found their car and within moments, were nearing
Yuriko's apartment.

"I have a phone call to make," Midori said, "you bring the luggage
down and I'll wait here with the car."

"Oh, nice," Yuriko grumped. "Make me do the heavy work."

"You big baby," Midori was already dialing, "you'll get the doorman to
do it anyway."

She was correct. One look at the mass of luggage that filled her
hallway and Yuriko was on the intercom, asking for help. A short
struggle later and the luggage was lodged firmly, if not elegantly, in
the car's trunk.

"Are we ready?" Midori asked, as she put her cell phone away. "My
editor says 'have fun' by the way."

Yuriko waved her thanks at the absent editor. "Thanks, Rie-san!" She
looked around them and nodded. "I guess we're ready."

Midori slid into the driver's seat and Yuriko lowered herself into the
passenger side. Turning to the blonde, Midori laid a hand on Yuriko's
leg. "And how about you?" she asked pleasantly. "Are you ready?"

Yuriko nodded again. "As I'll ever be!"

Good thing they chucked the Comics Code for this--maybe that was the cause of

I liked the series better than the movie though I was
most impressed with the art, imagery, and our
favorite.. yummy yuri scenes(of the movie)! I started
the series first though and I was a little depressed
that the movie wasn't a continuation of the
relationship of utena and anthy. The series seemed to
draw out the relationship since it has time to,
whereas you are given instant gratification with the
movie. I would like to see the movie as a seperate
entity instead because it tries to retell the whole
story and totally rearranges main character's
personalities or even changes them altogether. I liked
utena being dominant and strong-willed versus the
stranger she became in the movie(though her short hair
and jaunty cap in the movie was awsome). I just
thought the series more fully explored the characters
and fleshed them out, as well as show how complex
human relationships can be, nevermind all the freaky
dualing stuff going on(which added even more
complexity to the emotions that anthy might be
feeling).Anyways I'm pretty split up about it. For
'Utena'(ie the story and relationship as a whole) I
look to the series. For a lovely artistic
yuri-stunning visuals I look to the movie.

Johann, the Comics Code has been entirely optional for more than a
decade.

Yes, but the DC animated series spin-off comics generally still got the seal.
Most DCU titles still do, even the current crime noir Catwoman series (which
made me wonder how it got Code-approved in a few issues). It took a while
for me to notice that Gotham Central didn't.

And now, my little brother's reaction to
UTENA: Adolescence Mokushikirakabombawombahey!

DAN: "See? I told you! All lesbians are either
victims of sexual abuse or victims of trauma."

JEN: "????!!!!!!!!"

DAN: "Oh c'mon! Anthy got done by her incestuous big

girl's uniform if she hadn't watched her boyfriend
die. No wonder they both dyked out. All lesbians are
totally trauma victims."

the Utena Car had two big things on either side, which

Utena wants to go all the way to become a man, just

it is at this point where I grabbed his nuts and
squeazed until he squealed higher than Wakaba after
getting her Saionji doll with real nipple-exposing
action. It is, after all, a sister's duty to place
her little brother in blinding pain when he utters
something stupid.

Still, that's a family reaction to the Utena movie.
Hopefully my catpack's reaction will hold more
sanity. ^_^

(NOTE: Now that I've seen the movie, I could finally
watch all the movie AMV's! Many were alright, "Deluge"
& "Roseate Nocturne" were damn good, but "The Two
Shall Meet" was MAGNIFICENT!)

Oh yeah... by the way.

With the DVD of the movie, is it possible to turn off
the lyrics to the songs while still having the subtitles
for the voices?

I never was a fan of the lyrics being subtitled in the
TV series. I would've wanted to know what they were
saying, but I'd prefer to go to the Internet for
something like that. I don't like two pairs of subs
glutting the screen in my anime.

Keep in mind that's just ME. I'm not saying YOU are a
dirty Shadow Girl lemon-writing Chu-Chewer because YOU
like the lyrics onscreen. I'm just sayin' *I* don't,
is all. I like background music in the background.
Not upfront.

About a week ago, I wrote a preliminary review of a new serial in
"Cookie" monthly, called Houkago, or After School. I wasn't sure
whether it was really a serial, or a one-shot or what, but it appears
to have been a two-shot, and this week I found the second half.

So, to recap - Itoi has been increasingly subject to teasing at
school, but has found refuge in the company of cool loner Ariyoshi,
walking hand in hand through Shibuya.

In chapter 2, they have decide that they can't baear to go back home,
or to school, so they wander all night long, catching naps in cafes or
karaoke booths, avoiding the cops and trying not to get picked up by
dangerous guys.

Eventually Ariyoshi looks so bad that Itoi coughs up her last cash for
a hotel room, where, in a quiet moment, they kiss. Things might have
gotten heavier at that point, but one of them hits a button by the bed
which sets off a noisy thing and they are scared witless until they
find the command to turn it off. After they recover, they embrace and
spend the night together, after confessing their love.

Rumors abound at school, but now, buoyed by their newfound love, they
basically don't care and the end of the chapter has them looking
forward to more time together in Shibuya. Ta-da.

Once again, I'm not really sure if this is the end of the story -
although I think that this time it is. It's a cute little shoujoai,
worth taking a look at, but not groundbreaking.

Cheers,

Erica

Your brother seens to have an interesting form of ratioinalllization. Your
brother should go into being a lawyer, comedian or writer. he may do better
than most of the current Hollywood movies and tv shows.
