The other THOM Yorke.

Although I first thought that maybe the commercial for the zombie island
game was going to be a mega-buck advertising campaign for TOM's upcoming
booklet series on his island empire layout...

As most of the readers are aware, I still have a backlog of kits to send out to
customers. I have tried to do so in large groups and that didn't work because of
the lack of capital sufficient to send out all orders. Here is my proposal; I
will list a certain kit and get all of those out that are due a few a week. This
is doable for me. There are two kits that I would like to handle first. Two this
time as one of them is only a small amount. The first kit on the list will be
the ACS #4. The other will be the Hacienda. I will go through my lists, however,
I would prefer those that have ordered these items to please get in touch with
me at my email address. Not this group, please. tomyorke@.... Please
use the heading "past kit releases" as this will alert me as to the contents so
I can place it accordingly.

ACS#4
Frijole Flats Hacienda

When writing please include the kit ordered and your current address. My lists
will show many old addresses and I need for these to be updated. This
information must be included in order for me to start getting these kits out. I
do not want to have to contact individuals who did not include their address as
this will take time away from getting kits out to others who did.

I will work my way through the kits one at a time. This is the only way in which
I can tackle this. Please work with me and I will get through this. It will take
some time, but if I do this every week, it will get done and with not too much
hardship.

I am aware there are several other kits that need to be on the list as well as
special orders. They will be put there when I finish the current list. The list
has to start somewhere. The first two on the list are the easiest to get done
now. The next will probably be the Cemetery. Please wait for it to be listed
before writing about it. It will take several months to complete the two listed
so far. Please work with me and I will work with you.

Mike,
I will take new orders, however, not until all past ones are filled. For the
ACS#4, that will be at least a month if not more to clear the books. I will
offer these when that has occurred.

As for the Hacienda, that is current and orders for that one are fine at this
time as I am running them right now. It is pictured on the web site at
www.tomyorke.com.
Thanks,
Tom

I thank those that have sent emails as requested. I am now starting to cast the
ACS #4 kits. I will send out a small batch per week until completed, then move
on to the next. If I do it almost piece by piece, I can handle it. It will take
time, however.

I could write much more in response to those negative messages and wishes of
another list, but I am going to make kits to fill back orders instead of
bothering with those that don't have a clue.

I got back yesterday from the National Narrow Gauge Convention in Hickory, N.C.
As usual, I had a great time. One of the best features of this convention was it
going to be only two hours away. Driving home, I had the time to reflect on what
I saw and did. I have been to about half of the NNGCs since they started in
1981. As this was the latest one, it is, naturally the greatest one I’ve ever
been to...

One of the things I got to thinking about was the trade show, or vendor room, or
place where we leave all our money, etc. Sure, the clinics are instructional,
the home layout tours informative and the gathering of malts and hops in the bar
enlightening... However, the real heartbeat and soul of these conventions is
what you see and hear at the trade show (at one point or another, you talk to
everybody on the trade show floor). By that, I mean the sheer volume of products
available and what type of company displays at the show.

One of the things I’ve seen over the years that always bothered me is the
subsequent show coverage. It would be pretty much limited to what the major
players were doing. There’s nothing wrong with that per se, but I always felt
smaller companies got left out. You would see magazine folks at shows and they
would talk to people, but they sure didn’t cover everybody. That’s too bad,
because most of the smaller one-man companies spent just as much money to get
there, display and sell stuff.

Let me tell you about the manufacturers and publishers I did see. They were:
Accucraft Trains; Anvil Mountain Models, Atlantic Scale Models, Bachmann,
Backwood Miniatures (all the way from England no less), Bald One Loco Works
(David Hoffman); Banta Modelworks, BCH International, Benchmark Publications,
Blackstone Models (also Soundtraxx), Bohica Enterprises, Bollinger Edgerly Scale
Trains, Built-Rite Models, C.C. Crow (also Builders in Scale), Car Works,
Carstens Publications, Cibolo Crossing, Coronado Scale Models, Crow River
Products, Crystal River Products, Deben LLC (Dr. Ben’s), Deerfield River Laser,
Frenchman River, Freshwater Models, Fun & Games (also Missouri Loco), Grandt
Line, Green Frog Productions, Grizzly Mountain Engineering, Hamm River, Hartford
Products, Heimburger House, Hunterline, JL Innovative Design Scale Models (also
Durango Press), Kohs & Co., Laser Modeling 3, M2FQ Publications (also Litco
Turnouts), McKenzie Iron & Steel, Micro Engineering, Microlumina, Model
Railroads by Scott Mason, Monster Model & Laserwork, Motrak Models, Mount Blue
Model Co., Mt. Albert Scale Lumber, New England Brownstone, Nick & Nora Designs,
P-B-L, Phil’s Narrow Gauge, Prairie Loco Works, R/Robb, Ragg’s...To Riches,
Railhead Publications, Railmaster Hobbies, Railroad Kits, Railway Models, RY
Models, San Juan Car, Scenic Express, Sea Port Model Works, SeaRails Intermodel,
Sidetrack Laser, SierraWest Scale Models, Sterline Models, Stoney Creek Designs,
Tom Yorke Design Studio, Train Troll, Trout Creek Engineering (with Tru-Scale),
Turner Model Works (with Finestkind Models, MilePost Models, Muir Models,
Sequoia Scale Models), Unionville Depot, Wild West Scale Model Builders, Wiseman
Model Service (with Back Shop, Durango Press On3, National Motor Co., On-Trak,
Star, Triangle Scale Models,V&T Shops) and Wolf Designs.

Notice how many structure kits companies attended? What does that say about
“building things” in model railroading? Or, is it all just kit collecting?

In one corner of the room, I watched the Wiseman Model booth where you buy brass
and metal detail parts by weight (you picked through all the goodies and got
what you wanted), Maureen Hunter at Hunterline building one of their own bridge
kits using some of their neat stains), at the Mount Blue Model booth, there were
some early pilot models of scale birds and animals and the great scale shingles
selling at the Wild West Scale Models booth. Gosh only knows what was going on
elsewhere!

Finally, here are some future convention lineups:

September 12-15, 2012
National Narrow Gauge convention
Bellevue, Wash.

October 12, 13, 2012
Narrow Trak 12
Brevard, N.C.

August 28-31, 2013
National Narrow Gauge convention
Pasadena, Calif.

September 3-6, 2014
National Narrow Gauge Convention
Kansas City, Missouri

September 2-5, 2015
National Narrow Gauge Convention
Houston, Texas

September 7-10, 2016
National Narrow Gauge Convention

Tom, and onlookers

I was a happy customer of yours a long time ago when you did some HO works and
have been a consistent admirer since then.

I've had a number of things that I needed and wanted to do over the last few
years while on-going events have stopped me. Leading to a serious burglary just
a few days ago and more roadblocks of life hitting me.

Like you Tom, I'm also working out of a nasty stretch of some years of adverse
events with solid action to correct all in that has gone wrong in my life and
fly secure in the near future. So to speak.

I see Toms plans and actions to get past his problems as the best pro- active
solution he could have gone with. I would have done the same for the same
situation.

I have confidence that he will successfully turn his kit production around in a
matter of a few months and be on the winning side of the situation.

Tom,

Good luck and best wishes. The old saying, " a journey of a thousand
miles begins with a single step," is so true. Keep plugging away and it
will be soon finished. As far as the other list, why waste your time:)

Looking forward to getting the ACS #4!

I have cast the first batch of ACS #4's, written the instructions and made the
drawings. They will go out Friday. I have to cast as I can in small batches, so
it will take some time I am afraid. Originally I tried to do too much at one
time and that didn't work as we all know. This way I can handle things.

I am in the process of getting out the ACS#4 kits and I appreciate the response
that people have made to help me organize this with current addresses. I will
work my way through these back orders, but I ask one favor: please don't flood
me with other BO requests. I can only do one at a time and all of the other info
will probably get lost in the shuffle over time. Let me announce the project
being work on and we can go from there. When that one is done, I will announce
another. The choice of same will be made on my ability to get this new one out
along with the current work load, whatever that is at the time. I cannot do it
all at once. I'm sure you all understand this. This is going to take time - but
it has started.

No others Curt. The last offering was incorrectly labeled an Art Deco building
by someone in S and that killed the market. It was definitely NOT an Art Deco
design being built about 1900. In fact, the term Art Deco wasn't coined until
about 1950 for the style popular in the 30's. The fact that it had an arched
window lead this person and then many people into thinking it Art Deco. Wrong!
But that was enough to dampen my attitude towards S and so no more structures
were ever produced.

Good afternoon,

I hope you had a great 4th of July. It was beautiful here in Nebraska.

That is right. The Frijole Flats Depot is here. I have several ready for
delivery. A few are committed for but that still leaves some that I can
ship out immediately.
The kit is O scale and sells for $150.

I will be putting it on the website where you can take a look or send me
an email and I will send you additional views. You can buy it on the
website or call me and I can send a paypal invoice or put it directly on
your credit card.

Thanks again for your interest,

I have FOR SALE what I believe to be a complete set of L&IRQ, published by Tom
Yorke from 1982-86, plus the 1986 L&IRQ Calendar (with 12 large glossy photos).
The first two issues are photocopies, but that's how they were published, I
think. That's 17 issues total, at 4 issues per volume, Vol.1 #1 through Vol.5
#1, plus the calendar.

Lots of articles, photos and plans, plus Tom's "philosophy" and layout ideas.
This is a classic piece of Yorke history. All in good condition.

Price: $100 (plus postage) or best offer. Please contact me off list at...
spirito@...

Thanks, Carlo Spirito

I have received some more responses for the ACS-4's. I will return to those in a
week as I am finishing up the Santa Barbara SP Depot for delivery at the end of
this week. The rest of the cars will be finished the following week and then on
to new (old) things
.
