Started as an informal student list E-Majlis in distant 1995, with a couple dozen members, it became the first-ever Azerbaijani listserver E-Majlis-L in 1996. Later, the list further matured into a Yeni Dostlar (New Friends) Network, a community of Azerbaijanis from all over the world, sharing news and thoughts, conducting discussions and providing analysis of the events, as well as mobilizing people for lobbying and other necessary activities. The list is successful in letter-writing campaigns to the mass media and the US Congress whenever Azerbaijani issues are brought up, as well as new web site creations (e.g., Khojaly Massacre Commemoration Website) and a help network to the researchers, scholars and students writing about the region. The Network also serves as a discussion medium for Azerbaijani Diaspora organizations, and helps organize various get-together events and activities, from holiday celebrations, such as New Year and Novruz (Azeri national holiday), to protests and meetings, to convey the truth about the situation in the region. http://www.usazeris.org
