Yeah ... but AOL/AIM users have free IMAP for quite a while now, so it's
possible the receiving end is actually using a mail app + virus-scanner/
spam-filtering proxy/... etc. It would be nice to be able to eliminate the
possibility.

I've also sent a test email from Yahoo beta to my AIM account, and the .jpg
attachment arrived okay (both web client AND TB via IMAP), so I'm guessing
something else is going on and may not be related to either AOL or Yahoo! beta.

Were both of you using web clients? Or maybe one of you was using a desktop
client, and possibly on a Mac? When I read the post, I was getting flashbacks on
how it used to be when an email (w/attachments) was sent from a PC to a Mac and
vice versa.

Subject: [Y-Mail] Attaching Audio/Pictures/ Photos

Hey Everyone,

Firstly, I hope you all had a good Christmas and I hope you all have a

Happy New Year [:)]

I have a question to ask...

I send my mate audio using Yahoo! Mail (They're about 1mb, 50 - 1min

promos for the radio), however when he recieves them they turn into BIN

files, so in the end I sent them him via Yahoo! Messenger and they

worked alright.

A few minutes ago, I tried to send him some advertising banners

advertising different shows and things, all of which are JPEGs, however

when he recieved them, he got them as text files... so I sent them to

him via Yahoo! Messenger and they worked alright...

He uses AOL, but I was wondering if it could be something to do with

Yahoo! Mail Beta?

Any help/advice would be much appreciated.

Ian:

can you give me the full filename of the files you're attaching? I'm wondering
if the file suffix (i.e. ".jpg") is missing. That might cause us to mis-label
the attachment in the outgoing message. If you want, feel free to send me an
image or sound file so I can see what the raw message looks like. That might
give me some hints on how to reproduce this problem so I can log a bug if there
really is a problem on our end.

Also, what browser and operating system are you using?

Hi Guys,
Just want to clarify something about DomainKeys. DomainKeys does not
ensure that the message you receive is ham or the sender of the
message is not a spammer. It simply ensures that the message
originated from the domain that the sender of the message claims to be
from.

On a little more technical level, the sender of the message can be
identified in most cases by the domain found in the email address of
the "From:" header. But the "From:" header is not the primary header
that identifies the domain of the sender. Instead it is the "Sender:"
header. If the "Sender:" header is present in the message it overrides
anything defined in the "From:" header and thus becomes the source of
truth.

Thanks

Is it possible he must just manually input the proper file-type
extension when saving the file? Like for example saving a poster as
"poster.jpg".

messages, & I will ban every ID you send this message with. I ask the
other mods to do the same. You have posted the exact same message
several times but with different IDs & farm numbers. Don't think that no
one has noticed, because I certainly have. The "error code 1" issue has
apparently been resolved, since there haven't been any legitimate
complaints about it with the latest build of the 4.0 branch, so now
you're saying "error xxx"? Give me a break. If you think you're a smart
spammer, I have a bridge to sell you.....

It doesn't make any sense, cause that email I got is neither a phishing email
nor a scam, it's one of those phamacy spams. The only difference is that, this
is the first time I got it from a Yahoo.com address(domain key verified) and it
ended up in my Inbox.

Well, it is still technically abuse. As it's spam it goes against the Yahoo
ToS.

It doesn't make any sense, cause that email I got is neither a phishing email
nor a scam, it's one of those phamacy spams. The only difference is that, this
is the first time I got it from a Yahoo.com address(domain key verified) and it
ended up in my Inbox.

I always send them to abuse@yahoo- inc.com and always get a automatic reply
and later a personal reply.

Mr. Ryan, Sir, My handle is photoman_flash & I'm on f502( I think) & that has
been very slow since 12-26. Did the Critters running that server eat too much
over the holiday & go on strike or what ? If they are in need of food to run
that server, please feed them so the speed will come back up to normal.

   Thank You.

I really don't think this is a spammer, and certainly not one poster. As someone
mentioned here a while back, this text was posted on Yahoo! Answers and it was
suggested joining this group and posting it here to get results.

complaints about it with the latest build of the 4.0 branch, so now

you're saying "error xxx"? Give me a break. If you think you're a smart

IMO, the simple fact that the same message has been posted over & over
is indicative of someone just trying to annoy other members. Look at the
messages very carefully. There's at least one sentence that appears in
every one of those posts. Now that "error code 1" has been fixed, they
post another message with "error xxx", & you honestly believe it's not
the same person as all the others? And just how many IDs would a person
need? Surely not that many!

Quite true. Since the beginning these e-mails have all been constructed in
the same way. You always get the exact same message with the author asking
for the error to be fixed or for his account to be migrated to another
server. It's quite rare to see so many "different" people knowing what a
server is :-) When Ryan talked about tha particular subject, dozens of
people asked what a farm was or what server they were on... to have this
many people reading the archives to find out that your account can be
migrated before posting their "requests" would be unprecedented in the
history of mailing lists :-)

I went to the member directory for this group and searched for 6-8 user IDs
that were used for these messages. I could not find a single one that is
still a member of this group. Looks like they join, send the error 1
message and quit the group without even waiting for a reply. That kinda
makes it spam.

What's the possiblity that the ability for sharing contacts between
Yahoo! mail users is planned for the future?

Hello and good day everyone..

I am responding to this because I am one of yahoo's users that needed help
with the Error code 1 problem. I had this problem for some time before I asked
for help, because the page tells you that Yahoo is already aware of it. But
after a long while, I finally had to ask for help when it did not resolve
itself. When I did a search to figure out what to do, there is one page I came
across that tells users to send a message to your group list and even has a
"sample" letter to send. Which explains why you have so many ppl sending
messages with the exact same text or at least one or two exact sentences. I am
sure, just like I did, most ppl are simply copying and pasting that letter
simply because it's to the point and explains the problem.
It tells you to ask to have the problem resolved or have your account
migrated. It also shows you what to look for, and tells you to be sure to
include it in your email. This would also explain why so many "different" ppl
just happen to seem so knowledgeable of what a server or a farm is. So not that
its rare, so to speak....ppl are just doing what the Yahoo help pages are
telling them to do.
Yahoo did help me and I can now access my email, although all of my folders
and important email from family and my kids are gone for some reason.
But had it not been for that help page that I saw, I would still be unable to
access my email account.
While I do happen to know what a server and farm is, I do hope My email did
not come across as spam....as that was not my intention...I just wanted to
access my email.

Have a wonderful holiday season everyone!

   Jeff

Hi Ryan,
Anything yet on if having the spam filter work on the additional
external accounts that get added in Mail Plus accounts?

Is it even on the list of "to-do" items?
Sincerely,

even if you look at the subject field what they wrote and how they wrote it,
come on you cannot take that sentence serious, can you? That would be a perfect
clue for spam...

Jeff, it would be great if you had a link for the "page" you are talking
about, because I would be surprised if it were Yahoo's policy to ask users
to send these e-mails on an unofficial mailing list instead of their normal
customer service.

I don't speak for Jeff, but the place I heard this was posted was on

Hi All,

Is there anyway to sort messages by date and subject in Y-mail beta? I've
recently switched to reading this group and others in my yahoo mail and I would
like to sort the messages by subject and the date and time they came in to read
them in some sort of order. I've tried to sort by date first then sort by
subject but then it just messes up. Is there a way to do what I'm wanting to do
that I don't know about?

Thanks.

I have had an account for years, but just recently I cannot get access
to my account. It says logging into yahoo mail, but the little
annimation does not show up and it never loads. I click on having
trouble logging in and nothing happens. I have tried going to tolls
and and deleting history. Still can't get in. It has something to do
with my account on my home computer. I can still get in with no
problems on my laptop. Is there anything I can do to fix my login
script from my accont on my home computer or should I just attempt to
delete the account and see if that works? Thanks

Date is supposed to be the secondary sort field, when you click on something
other than date. But it doesn't always happen that way. (Yes, Ryan, I've got
screenies to back it up.) But I have to admit, usually it does end up being
that way.
