Do they have a bandwidth budget for ADs that they MUST consume to maintain
revenue? This "rapid-firing" is making the interface so irritating that I can
actually see myself stop using it in the future. Nevertheless, like Nancy said,
it seems when there's a compose tab open and in focus, the AD switching slows
down.

If you often keep the mail window around for long periods like I do, you may
want to try that trick.

FYI: The [mark all read] item on the folder right-click menu was on

I'm glad Yahoo's finally giving all paying at&t users the beta, no
sign-up necessary.

Yah i heard that it doesn't work with the parental controls; i guess
for the time being you'll need to either open the door to full access
on those accounts or let them go beta-free

I don't think so. There may be more than one person with the same ID
under different domains, although I'm not certain it works that way.

Guess I'm lucky. I don't get the rapid fire ads. In fact, I don't think I've
seen it switch while on the page.

I do get, however, a 'Page cannot be found' momentarily in the ad window when I
clear out a folder. Lasts there for about 3 seconds, and then an ad loads.

Some mail clients, you could do this. Outlook, for example, when logged into
your mail service. AOL allows just usernames as well. But most everywhere else
(I haven't tried this with gmail) you need to have username at mailprovider in
the address.

Of course, once you do find the address, you can make a contact in Yahoo and
just put the name you assign to them in the To line.

No; to send an email you need to know the full address including the domain and
suffex.

My beta disappeared again too, but hasn't reappeared. The email I
got from customer service disappeared too. Hopefully the Beta will
show up again soon....

I think the yahoo id is unique to all domains in yahoo.
I have several yahoo ID's and no email associated with it

The Yahoo! Mail Beta Contacts list has improved considerably but
it's still lacking a few of the fields/features of Yahoo! Address
Book.

In regards to editing, many of the Address Book entry fields are
missing from the Contacts Properties fields. Things like Personal
Website, Company Website, Birthday, Anniversary, etc. Granted it's
not a lot, but if you have information there in Address Book and
Yahoo! goes to Contacts only at some point, you don't want to lose
the info.

Also, it would be nice if you could click on a contact and see all
of the email distribution lists to which you've added them. You can
see a list of their Lists in Address Book but not in Contacts.

Categories is also missing from Contacts. In Address Book you can
add a contact to multiple lists for different email distributions
but they can only exist in a single Category. Perhaps Contacts
could implement this by making the Contacts button in the left pane
a collapsible list of categories. You could then move a contact
from one category to another by drap/drop just as you move emails
from one folder to another.

I can't think of anything else that needs to be done. It's almost
there.

A user's Yahoo! ID is unique across all of the Yahoo! domains. For
instance, since you have the ID dmg2kx via yahoo.co.uk, no one else can
request that same ID at yahoo.com or elsewhere because it's already
allocated to you.

So if you know someone's Yahoo! ID but not their specific domain, you could
send an email to them by prefixing their ID to each of Yahoo!'s domains and
sending it out to all without worrying that you're bothering the wrong
people. One of the addresses will work and will reach the right person and
the others will just be undeliverable.

On the other hand, it's possible to obtain a Yahoo! account without the
associated email account. In that case all of the emails will be
undeliverable.

You might try Yahoo! messenger instead to contact them. I haven't used it
in years but I think you only need to know their Yahoo! userid which you
have. Or maybe create a Yahoo! group and send an invite with the text of
your message to their Yahoo! userid. You don't need to know their full
email address. That's going a bit far but it would work.

An email disappeared too? That's very odd. You should be able to access
the same emails in your account via both Beta and Classic. Unless it got
deleted somehow.

I do not think this is a good idea.

It adds a lot of links to the interface that one will seldom use, which is
clutter.

There is too much risk of accidentally clicking on one and causing problems.
Generally it is not a big deal if you accidentally empty the Trash folder, but
I would not want to accidentally empty a mail storage folder.

The feature is not necessary. If you need to empty a folder, you can go into
it, select all of the messages and delete them. I think this is a better idea
anyway. The process slows you down and gives you more oportunity to be
absolutely sure that you want to delete the messages.

If you must have this feature, I would prefer to see it as an option for each
folder, as Paul suggested. Even then, I can't think of any case where I would
need it and it is not already implemented (Trash, Bulk).

I dont think there are Yahoo users with the same id across different domains,
because this would mean that we need to sign in to any yahoo service/site (My
Yahoo, Messenger, YMail etc.)using the entire email address instead of only the
yahoo id/password as we currently do.

I don't think so. There may be more than one person with the same ID
under different domains, although I'm not certain it works that way.

Hmm, maybe it's something on Yahoo's end? Check your account settings in
Yahoo mail, & see if there's a similar option. When you say "new yahoo
mail service", are you referring to the beta mail? If so, it's already
available to many members.

No, they don't lead to this group. For one thing, the guy posted
email addresses not web addresses. But if you do go to his group39
group, it doesn't appear to have any relation to Yahoo! Mail.

It's unclear to me why the message was approved for this group to
begin with.

Congratulations Yahoo on creating a good, if not excellent spam filter. Today
when I logged into my email i was greeted with a total of 45 spams. Yahoo
thankfully filtered all but four, with no false positives. 91%, that's cooking
when it comes to webmail.

Note: I have SpamGuard Plus thru my at&t account, so the filtering may not be as
good for free accounts

I spent some time trying to recreate the "rapid-firing" I had before but
couldn't, and the distinct periodic CPU usage spikes of yesterday are gone today
also. I hope both of those were just glitches.

There are also other changes - dragging the scroll-bar to read message seems to
fire less ADs than yesterday (still annoying), but using the
keyboard/mouse-wheel continues to result in one AD per event, meaning you get a
new AD each time you press the up/down arrows, or each time you scroll with the
mouse-wheel.

The marketing bunch in Yahoo! REALLY don't get it, do they? On traditional media
(like TV), ADs need to be interesting and flashy and colorful to attract
attention, otherwise the viewers will wander to the kitchen, the bathroom, or
simply switch to another channel. On computers, however, the users ARE already
doing something else, may it be searching, emailing, or reading to name a few.
Fast switching flashy ADs can only serve the purpose of annoyance.

Text ADs on text pages are way more effective than graphics. The key is to blend
in, not to stand out. Being forced to change the frame of mind from reading text
to interpreting graphics often generates more negative sentiments than positive,
not to mention if those graphics blink ALL THE TIME.

I mean, does Yahoo's marketing really think those over in Google are just a
group of stupid idiots?

Guess I'm lucky. I don't get the rapid fire ads. In fact, I don't think
I've seen it switch while on the page.

I do get, however, a 'Page cannot be found' momentarily in the ad window when I
clear out a folder. Lasts there for about 3 seconds, and then an ad loads.

Wow ... the ADs are switching so fast that I couldn't click on them even if I
wanted.
