As we can see in this post [1], Yahoo thinks that Neo is ready to fly.
In my opinion, this is a little premature since Neo still misses some important (and much requested) functionalities like:
* Notepad and calendar/timeline integration
* Bring back the ability to "sort" messages
* Easy filters with right click

Any opinions about that?

Agree there are features missing. One more I miss is the ability to click on the sender in an email and it automatically searches all emails from that sender.

However, I think Yahoo may have looked at people's usage of all these extra features and realised that they are probably only used by a minority of users, so that the majority of people who switch will not notice their absence (the calendar has never actually been properly integrated after all!), and only appreciate the nice interface and increased speed.

I suspect they're keen to switch people over so that they can focus on developing only 1 rather than 3 platforms. In the end, the support for problems with the older versions will be "please switch to Neo".

I also agree that there are features missing. The one which pains me the most is
the malfunctioning of the version ID. If the NEO cookie is  present, both IE 8
and Firefox 3.16 display the version information incorrectly - the image which
includes a cat pushes the OK button off of the visible part of the screen for
Firefox 3.16. This is not true with IE 8, that browser shows the OK but the top
(everything above the hostname is just not displayed - so you do NOT even know
what version you are running!

I cant even believe this is even brought up officially on the Y Mail blog.   I am and have been a plus user for years and there are many features STILL missing on

Being using Y- Mail and FireFox for a long time.
Yesterday suddently while reading my E-Mail, I
noticed that the messages were wider than my
screen and that there were some parts left out.

I didn't pay much of my attention to it, since I
thought was not to important, nor permanent.
But the next time I turned to Y- Mail, using FF
I received a warning stating that my screen resolution
should be changed.  (This is the first time ever, that I received
such a message).  It said that I should select a
screen resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels or better.
To my surprise when I went to change the actual
resolution, it was set to 1024 x 768 which I consider
better than the other one.

Every other program, like Yahoo, are doing fine
with the set resolution but the only problem is with
Y-Mail when using FF.  I think that the problem is
from you (Yahoo - Mail or FireFox) and it could be
a programing error not taking in consideration a
better screen resolution than the one proposed.

Rafael E. Silva P.E.

Agree entirely that it's quite embarrassing that we're waiting over 2 years for something that was promised at the time as coming soon. However, technically, given that neither of these features were present before the current beta, I guess one can't call them "missing"!

Your general point about being kept up to date is valid. I like it when yahoo staff do write on here, but sometimes would be good to have heads up for some new features or the thinking behind them (perhaps in more detail than on mail blog). They perhaps could use the group as an expert focus group, but perhaps they don't feel the need to do so as they get adequate feedback from other sources.

hey,

There are actually people from the Mail team who subscribe and/or read this
group and sometimes reply to requests. Granted this is not done on a regular
basis but in the end this is not a Yahoo-owned community, just a user group.

As for Neo.. well. i did expect more. I mean we've reached the point where going
all social simply is not the way to go...; and well to be honest, the twitter/
Facebook integration has returned several connection failures... What I believe
Yahoo might fail to understand in some way is that A LOT of people actually do
care about real features. This is why Gmail keeps growing. There is tons of
inspiration to create a truly good product

I myself would have love to see some voice/video features for Yahoo Mail
messenger or some sort of Google Voice competitor
At least more interesting third party apps
I guess I was too ambitious

Sorry, wasn't having a moan about lack of yahoo input into group, it's just good when it comes.

Disappointed .. ummm ... perhaps a bit but equally happy - if what we wanted was a snappier email program that works well also has well integrated social features, then yahoo has nearly got there. However, if we were hoping for a game changer that would make people turn heads and come to yahoo from another email program (in the way GMail did when it first arrived), then I'm not sure we have it.

i think that if there are options for all those special features, that's wonderful !

BUT, please leave one option for those of us who just want straight up e-mail, no frills.
i just need a streamlined, reliable way to conduct my group bizness <G>.

My main frustration with Neo is that I can not stop myself from comparing it to the All-New Yahoo Mail. I can do nothing but admit that the All-New is still amazing. I can click in a sender's name and see all the messages from this sender, I can choose to see only my contacts messages, sort this messages in all possible ways, I have that useful timeline that keeps me aware of my next appointments, I have highlighting in my messages links, names and dates; all I have to do is click to have a search, a new calendar entry or a new message. My click with the left button is powerful and the interface is intuitive, simple and clever.
Neo have a long way before reaching its predecessor, in my humble opinion. I am not willing to use a product that loses functionality when compared to the previous product.

First, try upgrading Firefox to 4.0. Is the file on your desktop, perhaps? Other than that, I'm really not sure what's happening on your end.

it's actually gotten worse since I first wrote to ask -

now even if I copy and paste the group address from the group I own
into a message sent from my yahoo email -
it is being returned to me.

(I'd post from the group page except you cannot attach
from the group web site - )

I wonder if these really disabling glitches are
due to the changeover to the new mail?

Firefox has a specified directory where it puts downloaded files.
When Firefox is the open window, go to Tools, then Options, and on the window that opens, you want the first "tab" that says 'General'.  In the middle of that window there is a section on "downloads", and it indicates where the downloads are saved to.  That's where your downloaded files go to.  NOTE:  by default, the location is usually
for XP - C:\Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\Downloads
for Win 7 - C:\Users\username\My Documents\Downloads

When I download any file using Yahoo and FireFox 3.6.16 or .15 the file says that it is
wherever I selected it to get, but when I try to get to the file it has disapeared and I
search it on C and the computer says it is not there.

Any help please.

Seems to still be an issue if you have too many emails in your inbox/folder; It
did not work for me when I had 500 emails.

Maybe it's Yahoo's way of telling me to be more organised!

Anyone from Yahoo care to shed any light on this?

I was on the chat with someone from yahoo for about 4 hours as they tried to
help me access my contacts. They had me empty my cash, change my browser
settings, download a different browser, try my email from a different server
etc. etc. and it still doesn't work. Does anyone out there know how to fix this
issue??

thanks

The problem is that the system says that it is downloading the
file to i.e.  C:\Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\Downloads
but when I go there it is not there nor anywhere on disk C, nor G.  It disappears.

What does the download manager tell you? In Firefox 4 that's in the Firefox
drop-down menu, on the right side, "Downloads".

That should bring up a window that lists your recent downloads, with error
indications for any files that had errors in downloading. Use the right mouse
button to click on one of the listed files and in the context menu you should be
able to select "Open containing folder".

If there's no error indication, but the "Open containing folder" menu item is
gray (inoperative) that usually means that the file has been deleted or moved
since it was downloaded. In this case one possibility may be that you have an
over-eager antivirus program, immediately putting your downloaded files in
quarantine.

I'm unable to load it. Xoopit's website seems to be off line too.

WAIT!

There is a problem with Yahoo's servers.
Hopefully it will be fixed soon.
