Hi!

Have you seen the Meet the Robinsons yet? We went this

movie can have some inspiration for adults. I loved the
main character's theme of "Keep Moving Forward."

****An urgent message just for you from Julie Hood ****

(If you work in information marketing, public relations,
are marketing a book OR want to get published in O
Magazine, please read this now! I don’t want you to miss
out on the special pricing offer.)

===> Your Complete Publicity Planner for 2007

If you could own dozens of popular publicity and marketing
courses and products at just a *fraction* of the cost,
you would, wouldn't you?

This month 20+ marketing & publicity experts have partnered
to help you reach your aspirations in your life, business
and career.

All of them are practically giving away these top notch
products and programs in the hope that you will love them
so
much you'll want to learn more about their other products
and services. Here are the details:

- Susan Harrow shows you how to get in 0, The Oprah
Magazine.

- Drew Gerber tell you how to plan your entire publicity
campaign like professional publicists do for their clients.

- Robert Middleton will help you become an info guru to
draw
clients, customers and business to you with ease.
(I have this manual and it is excellent.)

- Marcia Yudkin transforms so-so press releases to
sizzling--see how it's done.

- Marcia Wieder shows you how to be an inspiring speaker
and
also takes you inside her "My Dream Circle" private
coaching
club, where you have access to teleclasses, tools, and
books
and experience working with Dream Coaches worldwide.

- Joan Stewart teaches you ways to get thousands of dollars
in fr.e.e publicity.

- Raleigh Pinskey gives you an advanced course in ways to
market your message to the media and others.

- Lisa Earle Mcleod tells you how you can book yourself on
national TV.

- Lisa Daily shares with you how to book yourself year
round
on the radio.

- Jerrold Jenkins explains how to sell books outside the
bookstore in "The Insider's Guide to Large Quantity Book
Sales".

...and that's just a bit of what you'll have access to.

The Publicity & Marketing Megasale runs only until January
12th (and the price goes up on the 11th!). Don't miss this
chance to gain access to some of the best courses, programs
and tools in the publicity world at just a fra.ction of
their regular prices.

http://www.organizedwriter.com/prsale

This is an amazing collection of material. I can't wait to
read about getting into the O Magazine and how to do large
quantity book sales outside the bookstore.

Plus you'll have your 2007 Publicity Plan ready by the end
of this training.

I'm sharing this sale tonight with my friends at the local
publisher's association.

Check it out before the price goes up on Thursday (and make
sure you go all the way to the bottom to see all the
products described):
http://www.organizedwriter.com/prsale

Best,
Julie

P.S. Please pass this on to at least 5 friends, colleagues
and associates or anyone you know who would like to promote
themselves, their business or product, become a speaker or
make their book a bestseller. Thank you!

P.P.S. In case you missed it, be sure to check out this
package today:

"Be better writers today than we were yesterday."

Hi!

You know how when you rush, you always end up with
mistakes? I rushed trying to get the Organized Writer
calendar out before Thanksgiving--and didn't proofread it
nearly enough. Thankfully, I have some wonderful readers
to help me out! A special thank you goes to Laura N. and
Diana S. who took the time to contact me about the
holidays!!! I'm sorry about the errors!

Calendar Corrections

February 21 Ash Wednesday
April 6 Good Friday
April 8 Easter Sunday
May 13  Mother's Day
Sept 11 Patriot Day
Oct 8   Columbus Day

If you want to print (or reprint!) the calendar, it's
available at
http://www.organizedwriter.com/calendar.htm

-----------------------------------

Trying to get organized for the holidays? Here are three
resources that may help you --

First, OrganizedHolidays.com is one of my sites, and it has
a 10-step process to help you prevent the "Nightmare Before
Christmas!"
http://www.OrganizedHolidays.com

Second, I really like the Christmas Holiday Planner at
http://www.getorganizednow.com/aff-holidayp.html?hop=finorg

Third, Amazon has added a new gift organizer. I haven't
had a chance to use it yet, but it looks very interesting
for keeping track of all those gifts you want to send:
http://www.organizedwriter.com/giftorganizer

-----------------------------------

How is your goal setting coming along for 2007? Do you
know what you want? Do you know how you'll get it? Stay
tuned for a brand-new program coming in December (I can't
wait to tell you about it when we get all the details
finished!).

Don't forget to send out a query or two over the next
couple weeks. Most writers are too busy during the
holidays to send out much. If you are working four to six
months ahead, you should be querying April/May/June so
think Easter, Summer, Graduations, Vacation Planning, etc.

Happy writing (and organizing)!
Best,
Julie

Offer
Volume 5, Issue 9
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I'm looking for three very special writers.... who know
that with just a little bit of encouragement and focus,
they could make 2007 a fantastic year.
I've got three spots available in my personal coaching and
mastermind program -- and our next call is Tuesday the 21st
so you need to sign up before then.
You can find out more about the entire program here --
http://www.infomktacademy.com/owregister.htm
I hope you can join us!
Best,
Julie
P.S.  Are you one of the 3 people who will be joining us on
Tuesday?  We're going to be putting together our 2007 goals
and plans -- and then getting a jump start into the new
year.
"Be better writers today than we were yesterday."
Hi!
I keep looking for it .... and can't seem to find it!  It's
the "Set It and Forget It!" organizing system where you set
up your system and then you're done.  It runs itself.
Unfortunately, we still have to sort through the mail,
clean out the refrigerator, get rid of last year's
"Oh-No-It's-Too-Small" clothes, send in our taxes....
Read the rest of this month's issue at:
And be sure to check out the limited-time coaching offer
that's available at no cost when you purchase the ebook
"Be better writers today than we were yesterday."
Hi!
First, have you hit the back-to-school sales yet to stock
up on office supplies while they are so inexpensive?
Here's my list of the must-have supplies:
-- Notebooks (my best deal this year was 10 cents for
single subjects and I got 20 of them. I wonder how long
they will last?)
-- Bookshelves
-- 3-ring binders
-- clicker pens (no lids to lose, and you only need one
hand)
-- printer paper, ink cartridges and toner
-- post-its
I love OfficeMax.com and OfficeDepot.com because they
deliver directly to my door.
-------
Here's a quick Organized Writer rule for you.... Work
Forward.
We spend so much of our time organizing for what has
already past.  We're filing last month's bills, the queries
we sent last week, and the statements from before.  A much
better approach, though, is to set up your filing system
for what's ahead of you.  Set it up so you can file right
away instead of creating that "To File" pile.
For example, we file bills by month and once a year we set
up files for each month of the year ahead.
-------
Are you trying to figure out how to work writing into your
regular life (which probably includes tasks like cooking,
cleaning, vacuuming and laundry)?
Check out Lynne Klippel's thoughts on getting it all
done...
http://lynneklippel.blogspot.com/
Lynne is one of my favorite coaches, and if you've ever
wanted to write a non-fiction book, you've got to check out
her upcoming training.  I'm picky about what I recommend to
you, and I took this class to see if it was as good as it
sounds -- and it is!
Lynne has put together a step-by-step process to take you
from start to finish on your new book.   You'll learn to
create
* a vision and marketing plan that keeps your focus on your
readers and helps you write a book with heart
* How to create a Book Blue Print to end confusion and
overwhelm
* A writing trick that let's you write in 5 minute blocks
of time- perfect for busy people
* What to do with your book once it is written
* The most cost effective ways to get your book published
* All sorts of other tips on the writing and publishing
process
Find out more at
http://www.BookSchoolClass.com
------
One of my writer friends just had her kids go back to
school, and she is using this time to reorganize her office
and see just what she wants to accomplish in the remaining
three months of the year.  What a good idea!
Happy writing (and organizing)!
Best,
Julie Hood
Hi!
So how are you doing on your plans for 2006?  (I won't say
that "resolution" word since most of us have broken them
already!)
I'm trying something new this week... rather than create
the newsletter twice (once online and again in this email),
it's just online.  Let me know how this works for you!
Thought for the Week - Your Focusing Thought
What do you focus on?  Have you ever listened to the thoughts that run through
your mind during the day?
  Do you spend your day thinking about how much writing you are going to do, or
do you spend it thinking about how much you have to do, and how you will never
have enough time to write?
  I've noticed when I can have a positive focusing thought, my day runs much more
smoothly. I have to play with the wording a bit... regular affirmations don't
work for me since I end up just responding with "Yeah, right." I often use a
version of "I intend to...have a good day, or write lots today."
Try a focusing thought for a positive week.
--------
Would you like some help working through the 30-day plan in The Organized
Writer?  We've put together 30 days of email messages to help guide you through
the 30 days.  Each day you'll get a short introduction, an assignment to work
through, and a checklist for the day's lesson.
You can get the lessons for only $8.95 or combine it with The Organized Writer
ebook and save $4.
For freelance writers... Idea Brainstorm
        How many new ideas can you generate in fifteen minutes or
        even an hour? Notice I didn't say "best-selling ideas." I
        just want you to get in the right-brain creative mode (and
        try to turn off your left-brain critic).
        If you have a few minutes today, try this brainstorming
        exercise.
        1. Pick a topic about which you love to write.
        2. Make a short list of related words in your word
        processor.
        3. Type each word into your search engine and glance
        through the results (look out-don't get sidetracked with
        all the neat stuff you find). Copy the really interesting
        web addresses into your document.
        4. Use the results to trigger new combinations or ideas.
        5. Don't critique your ideas until the very end. Print
        the best, and put it in the Idea Grabber section of your
        planner.
        Personally, I really dislike blind brainstorming. I need triggers.
        I need something to jumpstart my brain into finding new
        connections and relationships.
        Did you get at least one "best-selling" idea from this
        exercise?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

For authors and publishers.... Improve your website

One of the best ways to improve your web site is to visit other sites to find
what you like.

Check out http://www.AuthorsontheWeb.com (they even did Beverly Cleary's site).

As you survey the sites, consider -
                   1. How does the color scheme describe the book?
                   2. What pages make up the site?
                   3. How do the fonts give you "a feel" for the book?
                   4.  Where are reviews used?
                   5. Does the author have a newsletter?
                   6. Does the site have an online press room and/or press
releases on the site?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
One last thought... New book from one of my coaches
Is 2006 the year you reach your wealth goals?
This is your chance to learn what the wealthy know, in an
easy to read and follow format. You get the exact formula
that has made hundreds of people millionaires. It only takes
Thought for the Week - I cleaned my basement...
This week I cleaned my basement, and if you are thinking about a big organizing
job that you need to tackle, here are some suggestions:
1)  Get a friend, buddy, your mom, your spouse, your kids or even hire an
organizer.... just someone to join you in the fun <grin>!  It makes it so much
easier.  The kids were a big help yesterday running up and down the stairs,
dumping stuff into bags, etc.
2)  Set up a supply cabinet.  Most companies have a supply cabinet if not an
entire supply room, and you'll be amazed at how much time it saves when you
don't need to go looking for the paper or your favorite pens.  We actually have
two now.  One is in the office, and the other is a shelf in the basement with
all my notebooks and binders.
3) Get your 2006 calendar up and running (don't forget to update it with all the
school/kid/spring activities) and then write 2006 on your next 20 checks.
4) How about 30 days of email training from me to help you get organized?  It's
only $8.95 here
http://www.1shoppingcart.com/app/netcart.asp?MerchantID=59617&ProductID=2234140
  5)  I even found some fun stuff for you in my basement. I found two printed
copies of The Organized Writer and a bunch of copies of the ebook on CD.  For
those of you who don't like to deal with downloads, here's your chance.  Here
are the links:
  The Organized Writer printed copy
  http://www.1shoppingcart.com/app/netcart.asp?MerchantID=59617&ProductID=2656746
  Now I only have two printed copies so once they're gone, this special is over.
What's a Blogging Blitz?
http://www.bloggingblitz.com
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

For freelance writers... Your Writing Goals for the Year

Let's play mathematician for a few minutes (I know, I know, you are a writer,
and you never liked math, but this won't be too hard. I promise.) How much
money do you want to make this year in gross sales from your writing? Divide
that by the average amount that you make per article.

This number is how many articles you need to sell this year.

Then think about how many queries you send to get one acceptance. Is it 5, or
10 or maybe 20? Multiply that times the number of articles, and you know how
many queries you need to send out into the world this year.

Divide it by 50 and you have your writing goal for each week this year.

Let's do an example. Suppose a writer wanted to make $30,000 this year. They
usually make $1,000 per article so that's 30 articles they need to sell this
year. It usually takes 5 queries to make a sale so 30 times 5 is 150 queries.
150 divided by 50 is three per week which isn't too bad.

What's your writing goal for this year?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
For authors and publishers....  BloggingBlitz.com
Do you have a blog?  What exactly is a blog?  Blog is short for weblog and it's
simply a website similar to an online journal where the entries are arranged in
reverse chronological order and they are often archived by month.  Often they
are more personal and friendly than a typical website.  You can be more
personable while still reaching your potential readers.  I've partnered with a
blogging guru (Angie Pedersen, author of the Book of Me) to teach you all her
secrets in a two-session course starting January 16th.  To get a feel for what
the class is like, here are some of Angie's strategies for using blogs as a
promotional platform for virtually any business.
   1.      If you're hosting an upcoming sale or special promotion, gather the
details, and post them to your blog.  This lets customers know when to take
advantage of the discounts.
   2.      If you want to move a specific product, post a tip on how to use it,
or include a picture of a completed project.  Then let customers know they can
get that product from you.
   3.      If you're interested in enticing more teens into your store, give a
teen "guest blogging" privileges, and have her post her top five favorite
products each month.
   4.      Keep your content fresh with timely announcements, such as when the
new service is available, or when a new employee has been added to your staff.
   5.      Offer reminders: when class registrations start, and end; holiday
countdowns; and saving items for an upcoming charity drive.
   6.      Advise customers when products sell out, or are backordered.
   7.      Tempt customers with listings of new product arrivals.
   8.      Report on the latest scoop from trade shows (these can even be blogged
while on the road!)
   9.      Educate your customers with links to helpful informational websites
and project instructions.
   10.  Open a discussion: ask customers to post their favorite organizational
tips in the Comments section, for instance.  Or offer a question of the week,
and encourage customers to respond online.
two-session course at
Thought for the Week - 2006 Calendar is Ready and Merry Christmas!
Finally, finally.... the 2006 Writer's Calendar is ready.  You can download and
print yours at
http://www.organizedwriter.com/calendar
There's more stuff for you at the bottom of this page, too!
------
Wow!  What a month.  This newsletter originally had a date of December 6th!  We
spent a week in training in San Francisco (remind me to never leave during
December again). It's a wonderful city, and we even took an all-afternoon Segway
ride.  (You can see a picture here:
http://www.sfelectrictour.com/segway/san_francisco_city_tours_info.html ).
Basically you control it by leaning forward or leaning backward.  It was a
little scary at first because there's no brake, but once you get the hang of it,
it's a blast.  By the end of the afternoon we felt like pros.
Then my mom ended up in the hospital this week with heart problems again.  She
has a small blocked artery, and the doctors are going to treat it with
medicine.... and I am STILL wrapping presents..... you gotta love holiday bags
with tissue paper!
So we have lots to be thankful for this Christmas (it's Merry Christmas in our
house, but Happy Holidays to all of you who celebrate another holiday)!
------
I know a lot of you are trying to get organized for the new year... and next
week I'll send you some more ideas.  For now, don't forget to print your
calendar and if you haven't gotten your copy of The Organized Writer ebook, get
one today (instant download, no shipping) at
For freelance writers... How She Writes and Stay At Home with Her Kids
Are you trying to figure out how you can stay at home (with your kids if you
have them) and be a writer?
One of my favorite writers is Lorrie Morgan-Ferraro.  She is an amazing teacher
and writer.... and as a newly divorced single mother, Lorrie started her web
based business so she could work from home and pull her kids out of daycare.
Want to learn how she did it?
You can listen to her story at Web Sorority Talk Radio, a brand-new web site to
help you connect with successful women at
http://www.lynneklippel.com/radioshow/
(The guys can listen, too!)  I'm not sure how long her interview will be
available so you might want to jump on this.
When I started OrganizedWriter.com, one of the most difficult parts for me was
trying to figure out how to describe my ebook so it was persuasive and made you
want to buy.
I have been drooling over Lorrie's award-winning workbook and home study course,
Red Hot Copy to Woo Your Target Market, for ages -- and I finally bought it a
few weeks ago!
It's exactly what I wanted to know, a simple, step-by-step system to teach you
how to write persuasively.  I'll do a long review for you soon, but in case you
are as impressed with Lorrie as I am, check out Red Hot Copy to Woo Your Target
Market at
Thought for the Week - Thanks for Reading
We just wrapped up Thanksgiving weekend here in the U.S.,
and it's one of my very favorite holidays of the year.  One
of the things on my thank you list this year is you.  I
have the best subscribers on the planet -- you keep me
motivated with your kind comments, you spread the word to
your writing friends about this newsletter, and I
appreciate you sharing your email box with me!  Thank you!
We're cruising into the last month of the year.  How did
that happen??  I can't believe it's December already.  The
holiday spirit is revving up at our house.  Letters went
out to Santa last week.  What was at the top of their
lists?
For freelance writers... Getting Paid
As we roll into the end of the year, check your list of
unpaid articles to see what checks you can get in this last
month.  Did you send an invoice?  If not, get one in the
mail today.  If so, send a second one marked in red "Past
Due" with the original due date highlighted.
You can also ask your editor if you can contact their
Accounting Department directly.  They can tell you if the
invoice is in the system yet and when the check may be cut.
Some companies only write checks once per month so you may
be in the next check run.  They can also tell you if there
is something missing that is preventing your check from
being issued.
For authors and publishers....  Working through the Maze
Let's face it, writing and publishing, not to mention
actually selling a book, can be quite intimidating.
Knowing the steps you need to take, in what order, where to
find the resources you'll need, and understanding the whole
process of publishing, marketing and distribution is very
complex.
Jim Donovan, the author of several international best
selling books including "Handbook to a Happier Life" and
"This is Your Life, Not a Dress Rehearsal" and a well known
publishing consultant, has created a new program to help
you get started.
It's titled, "How to Write, Publish & Sell Your Book"  and
gives you a complete overview of the entire publishing
industry, including the insider information about
publishing and selling books and everything you'll need to
know to get going in the right direction.
To learn more about this groundbreaking new program (and to
Thought for the Week - Command Position for Your Desk
We had a great call on Feng Shui for your home office, and
I wanted to share a tip about the positioning of your desk:
  Make sure your desk is in the command position of the
room.
You know how a CEO always has their desk situated in a
powerful position in the room?
You can do the same by making sure you can see the door of
your office from your desk.
(Linda had tons more tips for us -- about why the clutter
gets to you, what to do if you have too many piles, how to
use red ribbons in your office, what to do if your desk has
to face the wall.
I was frantically trying to write them all down!  We
recorded the call so you can still learn all her secrets --
I haven't updated the page yet, but you can still register
and you'll get an email with the link to the recording so
you can start listening right now.  Be sure to check it out
at:
http://www.bestfengshuitips.com/home-office.htm )
How is your holiday planning?  I promised you some more
steps and you can get them all (including the new Saving
Dinner for the Holidays book) at
For freelance writers... The best time for each activity
One of the best ways to manage your time is to recognize
what you can handle today -- and what you can't.
For example, today I am just not able to create.
I had planned to tackle one of my new websites and really
make some progress, and I just couldn't get going (luckily
I don't have an editor breathing down my neck to get it
done).  So I switched over to do fairly left-brained
accounting work, and I'm getting so much more done without
forcing myself to plod along without inspiration.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

For authors and publishers.... Book Design and Production

How many times have you seen a self-published book and just
cringed at the cover -- or opened it and the book was
painful to read because the design was not well-done.

I've seen this so many times.

The worst part is that often the underlying book is good.
It's just that the packaging leaves a lot to be desired.

Author Pete Masterson has decided to tackle this problem
with his new book, Book Design and Production. It is so
needed! He gets into the details of how to properly create
and format your book and cover (and get it printed) so that
your end-product looks good.

He even explains why Microsoft Word isn't the best place to
create your manuscript (but how to do it anyway if that's
all you've got to work with). He explains how to pick
fonts (you really have to get this right for your book to
look good), how to hire a designer, and how to read the
clauses in your print contracts.

This is one of those books that should be required reading
for anyone publishing their own book!

Thought for the Week - The Holidays Are Coming! The
Holidays   Are Coming!

Don't forget to sign up for the Feng Shui for Your Home
Office telephone class. There are only a few days left!
http://www.bestfengshuitips.com/home-office.htm

----

Wow! I can't believe the holidays are almost here. We
actually start gearing up in October when I start buying
Christmas presents, then it's Halloween and school parties,
and we always host Thanksgiving dinner. Then Christmas is
a whirlwind because we have three birthdays to celebrate in
addition to regular Christmas events.... so you can
imagine how crazy it gets around our house.

This year I put together a special presentation for the
Working Women's Survival Show on 10 Steps to a Happy,
Healthy and Peaceful Holiday, and I thought I'd share them
with you over the next few weeks.

Step 1 is to Determine What You Love and What You Hate
About the Holidays. Think back over the last few years.
What were you most memorable moments? What drove you
crazy? What can you change this year because of that?

Step 2 is related to Time. How much do you NEED? How much
do you HAVE? and How much can you MAKE?

Whip out your calendar, and start blocking out all the
stuff you know about already. Then spend a few minutes
thinking about what else you need to do and what blocks
they will fit into.

In order to make time, you need to cut out some things
(maybe you use paper plates or use your lunch hour to get
an errand done), do other things faster (eat soup and
sandwiches once a week instead of an elaborate meal) and
what can you simplify (instead of 10 kinds of homemade
cookies maybe you only make three this year. I promise it
will still be a great holiday)!

Step 3 is to create a planner to use as your Holiday
Organizer. Here is a link to the one I'm using. It has
forms for tracking your gift purchases, getting your
schedule under control, planning holiday meals and parties,
even tracking your favorite holiday shows (and more)!

Page down to get to the Holiday Planner.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
For freelance writers... Analyzing Your Writing
One of the most difficult parts of writing (in addition to
getting rid of all the typos!) is being able to analyze
your own writing like an editor.
It can be so difficult to be objective when you've spent
hours searching for the perfect phrasing or tying in the
perfect quote.
I came across this list for educators on how to assess
analytical writing.  It is based on six areas:
     * Ideas and Content
     * Organization
     * Voice
     * Word Choice
     * Sentence Fluency
     * Conventions  (grammar, punctuation, etc.)
Take a look at it to see if it can help you be more
objective and write better articles:
http://www.nwrel.org/assessment/toolkit98/traits/index.html
-----
I also got an email from Pam White at Food-Writing.com.
She's got five slots open for her next class, in case
you're interested (I know I'd love to write a cookbook --
it's on my someday list!).
http://www.food-writing.com
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

For authors and publishers.... The Holidays are Coming
Faster Than You Think

One of the secrets to selling your book is to create a gift
package out of it.

If your book were in a high end bookstore as a package,
what kind of person would you buy it for? Who would buy
it? What extra goodies would make it one of those presents
you actually remember next year?

I really like this idea because you are creating a product
at a higher price point (so fewer sales results in higher
revenue) and you can capitalize on your buyer's feelings of
   "What am I going to give them this year?" dilemma.

For example, C. Hope Clark of FundsforWriters.com has put
together such a package for her book, The Shy Writer. You
can read all about it here:

http://www.organizedwriter.com/05/issue23.htm#shywriter

How's your office? Is it helping or hurting your writing
business?

When you enter, are you jazzed about getting to work? Or
depressed about all the paper stacked around distracting
you? Instead of the Leaning Tower of Pisa, do you have
Leaning Towers of Paper or maybe Leaning Towers of Books?

(Yes, I know. My office had gotten out of control, too!)

I've told you before about my Feng Shui guru, Linda Binns,
and how she helped me conquer the problems I had with
sleeping. Now she's going to help us conquer the office.

I twisted her arm <grin> and managed to get you a deal so
you can learn all about how to fix the problems in your
office.

If you're ready to take your business to a new level, learn
exactly how to get your office into shape with her new
audio class, "Feng Shui for Your Home Office."

(It's a telephone class where you call in to listen and ask
questions. We're also planning to record it so if you
can't attend, we'll send you a link to the recording.)

Get the scoop and sign up today at:
http://www.bestfengshuitips.com/home-office.htm

I can't wait to chat with you!

Best,
Julie

P.S. Linda normally charges $126 for an hour of her time
-- and wait until you see the deal she gave us for her
personal consultation:

Thought for the Week - Runnning on All Cylinders

I'm running on all cylinders this week.... I don't know
about you but everything seems to kick start into a higher
gear this time of the year. Every activity has its own
long list of stuff to do (soccer, religion classes, dance,
school, scouts. I hope that's all of them!) and the
holidays are revving up.

So my organizing tip for this week, is to set aside a few
minutes (or maybe an hour if you have as many as I do) and
get your calendar up-to-date. Grab all those schedules and
write down everything for the whole year so you know
exactly what time you have available and when.

Make sure you include travel time when you are blocking off
time for events. Do you have to get to the soccer game a
half hour early? Include that time, too.

I actually have my calendar on my computer so I can set up
Wednesday night soccer practice once and have it repeat
every week. I think you can do this with the Outlook
calendar, or I use an old version of Agendus to sync with
my handheld Palm computer.

-----

So, Julie, where have you been??

Playing and working!

Sorry you haven't heard from me for awhile. September is
my busiest month of the year for both business and family!
This year we celebrated six birthdays and our wedding
anniversary with a trip to Disney World! It was the first
airplane trip for the kids, and Grandma and Grandpa came
along, too. My in-laws treated us to staying at one of the
Disney World resorts, and we had a wonderful time (even
though Disney lost our luggage). We had a special
birthday/anniversary brunch at Chef Mickey's -- and we did
so much walking I lost 5 pounds! How cool is that? Go on
vacation and lose weight!

Now I'm recharged for getting back to work.... watch for a
special message from me about the Feng Shui for Your Office
  teleclass coming this week (we rescheduled it for
November). If your office doesn't feed your writing, you
definitely need this class.

And I've got a brand-new training course in the works for
you to tie in with my new ebook.... I've been pounding
away on the computer..... stay tuned for all the scoop.

Happy writing (and organizing) this week!

Best,
Julie Hood

For freelance writers... Jounaling about pain and tragedy

If you are still reeling from all the pain caused by the
hurricanes (or any other kind of pain or grief), try
journaling about it. Scrapbooking guru and Book of Me
author, Angie Pedersen, has great some suggestions and
links at

http://angiepedersen.typepad.com/blogofme/2005/09/hurricane_katri.html

Journaling is how I deal with the too-hard-to-think-about
issues that hide under the surface. Sometimes just writing
a letter to the person (or imaginary person) will help.

Thought for the Week - It's Messy Already Anyway

This week my husband and I were talking about how nice it
is to have everything spotless -- and what led us into such
a messy office to begin with -- and we determined that it
is the "It's-Messy-Already-Anyway" factor (or IMAA).

You know how when you go into a room with something that
needs to be put away and it's a little bit messy. Then
instead of putting it away, you just set it down with the
thought, "I'll put this away later with the rest of the
stuff.  It's Messy Already Anyway."

Uh, oh.

It doesn't take too many IMAA episodes, and then you've
created a monster that needs hours to clean up.

So that's why we're not letting anything build up in the
areas that are clean. No more "I'll get to it later."
It's right away or at a minimum before we go to sleep.

Try it, and see if it helps you (yes, you do have to first
get it clean. Remember that organizing vacation I
mentioned last week? This weekend is Labor Day. It's the
perfect time to tackle a big project.) I'd love to hear
how it goes.

--------

Thank you for sharing your thoughts on the teleclasses for
the survey last week (if you didn't get to take it, here's
the link again:
http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.asp?u=46091293678 ).

It has been really helpful, and we will have several calls
with replays this fall. I was able to get Linda (my feng
shui guru) to teach us Feng Shui for Writers! Mark your
calendars for October 17th. More details to come later.

--------

Please know my thoughts and prayers are with all of you who
have been affected by the hurricane this week. I've had
such a hard time continuing with my regular life this week
knowing there are people suffering so much. In case you
would like to donate, be sure to check with your employer
for matching. My husband's employer is matching donations
2:1, or here's a link to the Red Cross.

Thought for the Week - Active Chaos

Whew! My house and office are spotless (well, except for
the basement but let's not talk about that)!

For those of you who are living with a little (or a lot of)
clutter, I can't recommend enough that you schedule an
organizing vacation (Labor Day weekend could be a great
time to tackle this) and get yourself organized.

An organizing vacation is a term I coined to use some time
off to get organized instead of going "on vacation" and
coming home to piles of laundry, mail and email messages.

You will be amazed at how much more energized you feel when
you get your living space under control.

After last week's message about the mess we created getting
organized, (read it at
http://www.organizedwriter.com/05/issue18.htm ),
my Feng Shui guru, Linda Binns, sent me this note, "Julie,
this is called 'active chaos.' It's actually good because
it's productive. If you stop and leave it then it becomes
passive chaos and the energy stagnates. So things getting
worse before they get better is a good thing because you
are creating action and movement."

And now that's it's all clean, the rooms just *feel* so
much better. I am even more productive now that the mess
isn't dragging me down.

I'll try to twist Linda's arm to see if we can get a
writer's feng shui teleclass in October.

Speaking of teleclasses, I'm putting together the schedule
of telephone classes for the fall and would love to know
what topics are most interesting to you. Could you take
this short survey for me (it's anonymous and
multiple-choice)?  Thanks!
http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.asp?u=46091293678

Happy writing (and organizing)!

Best,
Julie Hood

Book School is so popular that Lynne is having another

Eastern. This is the last class of 2005, and includes
one-on-one laser coaching sessions. Find out more at

For book buyers.... Compare multiple book orders

Have you ever noticed how if you are ordering a book,
sometimes the pricing comes out better if you buy more
books and get reduced shipping?

A new web site lets you compare the pricing on multiple
books at the same time. It's a little tricky to use
because you actually have to find the books on this site,
add them to the "cart" and then click "compare all my
cart."

The search compares your cart in total, lists the prices
for the different books, and even told me when I would get
free shipping from Amazon.

--> Speaking for Millions
--> Marketing and Promoting Your Own Seminars and Workshops

The newsletter is filled with good info, too.

Thought for the Week - It Gets Worse Before It Gets
Organized

Have you ever noticed how when you are trying to organize
something (whether it's your office or your closet), it
always gets worse before it gets better?

We've attacked the house the last couple weeks to purge a
bunch of stuff, clean out the kid's rooms and redo our
offices, and I can't believe what an incredible mess we've
created.

The process of pulling out and purging creates piles that
didn't exist before (that need to be carted off to
goodwill) and then the stuff has to go back to their new
homes.

But before that happens, it looks like a tornado has gone
through the place.

I'm supposed to get a feng shui consultation on Friday --
to get all the secrets of creating health and happiness by
having my stuff in all the right places -- and I may have
to postpone until this mess goes away!

Happy writing (and organizing)!

Best,
Julie Hood

P.P.S. Your Mom-Chauffeur audio resource for this week is
Writing Down the Bones: Freeing the Writer Within

Author Natalie Goldberg not only reads her classic book for
readers; this audio version includes her comments on each
chapter. It describes her meditation and free-writing
habits.

Online Backup to the Rescue

I'm so excited about this new resource for you.

We all are guilty of not backing up enough. What if you
had a way to simply backup your most important files at the
end of the day to an online file folder?

On one of my new websites you can do just that.

This new Online File Folder service lets you backup, store,
retrieve, and share your files anytime, from any computer
that has an Internet connection (so no more headaches when
you are limited by email attachment size) and no more
excuses for not having your important files backed up.

You won't believe the price.

For authors... How to Finish Your Self-Published Book Fast

by Judy Cullins ©2005 All Rights Reserved.

Started a book and then got bogged down? Like many of my
book coaching clients do you say, "I have so many other
demands, I just can't get to the book."

This isn't procrastination or fear. Most writers get stuck
when they don't know how to move forward, finish, publish
and sell their unique, useful book to audiences just
waiting for it to come out. Let me share two ways to speed
up your process.

Thought for the Week - Automobile University

We had a blast last week during the Get It Write teleclass
with Lynne Klippel. Even though the recording didn't work,
Lynne re-recorded it for us. You can still sign up to
listen at
http://www.organizedwriter.com/getitwrite

------

My mom-chauffeur role has started up again in our house,
and one of my favorite ways to use all this travel and
waiting time productively is with audio CDs -- it's my own
Automobile University.

So I've been on the hunt for some of the best CDs (and will
be sharing them with you over the next few issues).

This week's selection is even available to you at no charge
(you only pay shipping).

One of the gurus of self-improvement, Brian Tracy, has a
new line of CDs and he's offering a sample CD at no charge.
  I listened to 21 Secrets of Self-Made Mil'lionaires, but
you might like one of his others like Managing Your Time
and Doubling Your Productivity or Building a High Profit
Business.

Be sure to check out the other titles, too. In your
shopping cart, look for "To browse other 21 Great Ways
programs from Brian Tracy, click here!"

(By the way, I also listen while I'm on the treadmill. It
makes the time go by so much faster!)

Get your CD here:

Happy writing (and organizing)!

Best,

Back-to-School equals Time to Get Organized

After Christmas, Back-to-School is my second favorite time
of the year. You can get so much organizing and home stuff
at the best prices. Last week, I got 10 cent notebooks and
the new 360 degree binders at a special price.
How could you jazz up your office this year?
What office supplies do you need to replenish?

Start making a list today, and then check out the ads in
the newspaper (or use these online ad shopper sites):
http://www.Cairo.com
http://www.SalesHound.com

I also like to start saving up for some of the big
purchases for my office so I don't have to charge them.

For authors and publishers.... What the Heck is an ISBN
number and Why Should I Care?
by Lynne Klippel, Book School coach

The ISBN is an international tracking system that is used
primarily in English speaking countries. Each book is
assigned an ISBN number during the publishing process,
similar to a Social Security Number. The ISBN is listed on
the back cover of each book, in the bar code area, and on
the legal page.

Using an ISBN number enables bookstores, libraries,
distributors, and on-line book sellers to easily find and
order books. All published books need an ISBN number,
unless you are publishing a little book to give away, like
a cookbook of family recipies or a book of family stories
that will never be sold. If you plan to sell your book, you
need an ISBN number [Editor's note: Ebooks may not need an
ISBN depending on where you sell them].

Visit www.isbn.org. This very informative website will give
you all the information you need to know about ISBN numbers
and how to get one for your book.

A company named Bowkers administers the ISBN program. This
company is the only one that sells ISBN numbers so you
don't have to shop around for the best price!

When your book is written and you are starting the process
of self-publishing, getting your ISBN number is your first
step. Once the ISBN number is assigned, your new baby is
officially a book. That's cause for a big celebration!

----

Don't forget! Book School starts next Monday, August 1st.
If you have a non-fiction book you are itching to write and
publish (I took this class last spring and Lynne is such a
good coach, I'm offering a special bonus to anyone who
signs up-- my brand-new 12-step report, How to Brand and
Sell Your Book on the Internet).
